Bare with me as I'm not entirely sure how to phrase this or if this would even work.

Would it be possible to make it so that the search bars (such as searching in Merchant Shops or the searching in the Item Database) can search for items without having to have the exact item name?
For example, you can type "magical" to search for magical squishies, but you'll also get every type of other 'magical' item, like the Magical Happy Pencil Case.
But, you cannot type "Magical squishy" if you just want to look at the magical squishies, and now have a lot of scrolling to get through. Same goes for the item database, as I try to search for what creatu have what color in magical squishies (again, just as an example, there's probably other items this could apply to as well), but I cannot just type in "Magical Murren Squishy," since nothing will get returned.

I think adding so the words don't have to be connected in the item name would make sense, as it would allow items to be searched for better, but I completely understand if that's not possible.

This is a good idea, thanks for mentioning it. I've updated the item database to accept full text searches with boolean operators. What does this mean?

Previously "magical squishy" would have 0 results. Now it has results.

You can further refine your results by using boolean operators. So you can do something like, "+magical +squishy". Or "+magical +squishy -albino".

Hope it helps!

This is lovely Pat, but if I just search "magical sepia" with no symbols I get back all the magical squishies rather than that exact string, when all I really wanted was the magical sepia squishies list. Even surrounding it in quotes doesn't stop this and I don't want to put a minus before every other color. Can we have a way to keep doing exact strings as well still?

Edit: If I type "+magical +sepia" I can get only those (which still isn't an exact string search I think) but that seems counterintuitive somehow? If I type in 2 words without symbols I assume that's an exact string I'm searching, not "containing the first one and not really caring about the second one"

Edit 2: Would probably help to have a clear deion of how to use all of this on the Item Database page as well since most people aren't going to see this thread (or this thread will eventually be gone) and the changelog definitely doesn't explain the "+" or "-" operators (boolean could also mean things like AND)

I've made some adjustments which should make the use case you've described return more accurate results.

I think this needs a bit more work, as the boolean search isn't working completely as expected. I'll continue to work on it and will likely add a toggle to enable boolean as well.
