It's nearing Hallowe'en. Secretsoftheshadows realised that she was not at all prepared. She was going to be putting on a Hallowe'en party this weekend and had so much to do. She quickly got in her car and drove to the costume store. She parked and entered the shop. There was so much to choose from! Why did I choose this place again? Secretsoftheshadows thought to herself. Oh well. I'm sure I'll be able to get everything done in one shop, then.
She decided to look for decorations first. Having to pass through the costumes to get to the decorations, she felt very alone in this huge store. It felt very quiet. Come to think of it, she didn't see anyone when she came into the store. Why would such a huge store have no people in it? I didn't even see any cashiers when I walked in. Giving a little shudder she continues on and finds the decorations. She was looking at ornaments when she heard what she thought was something moving. *Shluff...shluff...shluff...* Instinctively Secretsoftheshadows looks around to see if she'd see anything. Seeing nothing, she continues her search.
*Shluff...shluff...shluff...*
"Hello?" Secretsoftheshadows called, "is anyone there?" The sound stops after she calls out. What is going on? She thinks. Why do I keep hearing sounds? "Oooh! These ornaments would be perfect for my table! I also think I saw something else I could use over he - whoops! Dropped somet - !" She bends down to pick her item up and her voice gets stuck in her throat. She saw a pair of legs that looked deadened. The colour drains from her face as she looks up. In front of her is a a six foot zombie. Secretsoftheshadows swallows hard. She tries to say something but all that comes out is a whimper. Another zombie joins the first, and begins to moan. Quickly getting over her shock, she turns to run away from these ghastly creatures, when she sees that behind her are more. She was being surrounded by them! She had nowhere to go! She dropped what she was carrying and fell down to the ground in a ball. The zombies were relentless. They surrounded her, pressing up against her. She could smell their foul odour and feel their deadened limbs against her.
"Let me out of here!!! Let! Me! OUT!!!" She tried, against her better judgment, to push the decayed legs out of her way, but she was so scared that she had no strength to do so. She shut her eyes as they fell on top of her. As the last one fell on the pile. she instantly felt lighter. Opening her eyes she saw a familiar sight. She was right back at my shack. Not questioning how she got here, she knew there was only one way home - and that was playing my game. She put a lot of Tu in the slot by my door and waited. The door creaked open and, although nervous as to what might happen, she went inside.
She knew the way well. Making her way to the table she reaches for the die,
"Welcome, my Dear..."
Secretsoftheshadows jumps as she hears the voice
"I hope you're prepared...you may find today most...amuzing...!"
Secretsoftheshadows swallows hard. Picking up the die, she rolls it...
53
An evil-sounding parrot croaks somewhere in the shadows, "Krwaaaak! I get half! I get half! Heeheeheehee...!"
Shuddering, she rolls again,
94
The shack goes pitch black. Surrounding her are evil red eyes gleaming out from the blackness, totally surrounding her. Thunder crashes just outside the shack and the shack shakes. She had managed to, once again, reclaim her money. Feeling around for the die in the pitch blackness she tried again:
58
The red eyes turned to flames and low, angry screams were added to the eyes. Shuddering, she had to continue.
9
Instantly the eyes and screams were gone. Replacing them were a lot of mice on the mantle squeaking excitedly. Owls hooted in the distance and crows cawed in jubilation.
13
Suddenly everything goes silent and the shack goes pitch black. The only thing that's giving light is the die, glowing red, with the number 13 emblazoned on its face. Soon the fireplace flares, countless candles are lit all at once around the shack, dramatic organ music is played, wind chimes are heard, crows caw, owls hoot, spirits swoop in and out of the shack and my voice is heard,
"Well done, Secretsoftheshadows. Well done. Your bravery has earned you riches beyond most people's dreams! Look at the table."
After taking all the noise and music in, Secretsoftheshadows, turns around to look at the familiar die table. It had shrunk. A very large, bright, shiny orb had appeared on it.
"Step into the orb, Secretsoftheshadows. Step into the orb to return home."
Secretsoftheshadows found her voice, "Thank you, but, what about my winnings?"
"You will get that in due time. For now, it is time to return home..."
Why she decided to trust me, I wouldn't know, but she stepped into the orb and in a flash of bright light, she was home. She found herself in bed. Was this all a dream? She wondered to herself. I didn't just win thirteen million Tu, did I? She made her way down into the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea and there on the counter was a bag. A large bag with a tag that read, "13 million Tu." This didn't really happen, now...did it? She picks the bag up. It didn't disappear. This is one event she won't ever forget for the rest of her life; although she has reason to believer that whomever she tells just won't believe how it happened...
