SHORT BACKGROUND: Grew up in an extremely religious family, but he himself never got into it like the rest of his family. When he was eighteen, he was betrothed to a woman named Madeleine (she's a bit of a ditz). When he turned twenty, he shed his overbearing family as fast as he could, with his wife around his arm. Supressed teenage rebellion starts and he abandon's his wife somewhere and quickly joins up with Lee. Soon after, his religious family finds out and Madeleine is promptly married to one of Des's younger brother's. Des does, though, have one family member who he likes --- an estranged aunt who's subsequently a black widow (she's dead rich). 

APPEARANCE: Longish (though not overly so) black hair tied into a loose pony tail near the nape of his neck. Cerulean eyes. A strong build, tallish: 5'10, rogue-ishly handsome.

RELEVANT SKILLS: Can fix anything. He's also a skilled musician. Also knows more about religious passages, trites, ect. than he cares to know. 

PERSONALITY: Flambouyant(o_O), eccentric, loves parties and drinking, a ladies man, devil-may-care, free, loves to impress with doing things deemed impossible. 

OTHER: Des is a bit of a pyromaniac; nothing severe, just likes his fire. He can spend money like it's water (even if he doesn't have any) without a care. Anything religious makes him shudder .... Extra points if his extremeist religious family thinks it's their job to remove him from the world. ;x

Angel, please reread the first post. Your character is female and has unnatural features (why are purple eyes so popular?), both of which are against the rules.

Meh. I prefer actual eye colors, but with supernatural twists.
Like I read this book once where the guy had blue eyes, but they were "that impossibly blue sort of blue, like the color of the sky right as the sun first rises." Or something ike that. xD
That sounds much prettier than purple. 8D To me, at least.

I have one character with red eyes, but that's at least medically possible. xD Albinism is a thing, and he has the eyes for a purpose in the plot, not just because they look purty.

And I do see the draw in unnatural eye colors, since brown, blue, green, and hazel tend to run out quickly. x3 But that's part of the fun for me, and it forces you to go into more detail.

NAME: Talus Cael Wingsworth

POSITION: Navigator/logs keeper

NICKNAME (if any): Tal; Wings.
AGE: 23
GENDER/NATIONALITY: male/english
SHORT BACKGROUND: Normal childhood. Grew up with his mother, father, sister and elder brother. Tal and his brother never got along well, and sibiling rivalry was never just... sibiling rivalry. They had the same crushes growing up, they liked the same style of shirts, they even liked the same flowers, and the Tal always had to compete to get what he wanted, but was at a disadvantage because his brother was older. Tal, though, quickly learned that since he could never best his brother with speed and strength, he could through his parents (meaning he all of a sudden became the baby boy of the family, and Tal pretty much used his parents to get what he wanted). 

Tal always had a dream of joining up with the aeronautical royal navy, but the particually ship he had desperatly wanted to be on only had only spot left -- and his brother got in. In revenge, Tal quickly sought out a pirate ship (any) to loot that particular royal airship and avange his hurt pride (and get one up on his brother as well who took glee in sending him tokens.)  

APPEARANCE: 5'8 in height, light blue eyes and dark brown hair with bangs (hair-flicker :P)  
RELEVANT SKILLS: He's good at reading maps, talking to people, looking at compasses, ect. Though he's easily frusturated, he has a talent of not letting it get in the way of his work, and can easily shove it to the back of his mind if the situation requires it. Tal (even if he doesn't show it) is empathic, and can read people very well. 

PERSONALITY: Demanding, easily frusturated and grinds his teeth when he is. (His brother brings out the worst). He's in the mindset that he's usually right, but draws back when he knows he's not. Obedient only to Lee, and trys make the other crew member do what he wants. Slightly arrogant to a degree, but Tal knows what he's good at and what he's not good at (although he tries to cover up the things he can't do well)

OTHER: Of all attributes, he prizes loyalty the most. Tal is cunning and an extremely good liar. His father was a navigator, and passed down his skills to Tal and Tal's brother.

Uhh... Tal's brother's name is... er... let's call him Abel.

WHY DO YOU WISH TO JOIN THIS CREW?: Revenge in a sense, but he soon forms attachments to the rest of the crew.

NAME: Ravyn Namida
POSITION: Navigator/logkeeper
NICKNAME (if any): Rave, Nami (gets angry if you call her Ray)
AGE: 17
GENDER/NATIONALITY: female/Japanese+Russian
SHORT BACKGROUND: Was captured at the age of 6 by pirates and her wealthy family killed. Eventually took over the pirate ship and became an assassin with the skills taught to her by her father and the old pirate captain.
APPEARANCE: Small, with long black hair always kept in a ponytail tied back with a ruby red ribbon her mother gave her. Very pretty face with dark purple eyes, almost black. Although she is small, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HER. She also has a long scar over her left eye.
RELEVANT SKILLS: Very good with ninja weapons like shuriken and also swords. Excellent mark with a cannon and gun. Can fight with only her hands but has a slight disadvantage because she is smaller. Very clever and good at convincing people that she is telling the truth. She speaks English, Russian, and Japanese.
PERSONALITY: Mostly serious but can also be nice. Does not trust people very well and does not like to follow orders.
OTHER: She has a pet white cat with black paws named Akuma. This is Japanese for demon. Akuma only listens to what Rave says and likes to help her spy on people. Akuma and Rave can communicate with their thoughts.
WHY DO YOU WISH TO JOIN THIS CREW? "For the money and also to AVENGE MY PARENTS!"

 Why this is bad:

• The character is TOO GOOD. She should have at least some faults, weaknesses, etc. She also should not be all around good at everything. Pick one thing and maybe one side thing. Maybe.
• The character has bland looks. Other than her eyes (which are unnaturally colored and therefore against the rules), she has nothing about her that stands out. Being pretty does not count.
• The character has a stereotypical background. Not everyone in the world comes from a horrible tragedy or a wealthy family. I will accept MAYBE one character like this, possibly two. But probably not.
• The character is too young and too accomplished. I realize that 17 sounds much older when you're younger than 17, but it's not realistic for someone with so much experience. Conversely, having NO experience and being TOO old is also bad. Try to find a balance.
• The character is unfriendly. These characters are going to be in a crew, on a ship, in the sky for MONTHS at a time. Just because you add "can also be nice" to your deion doesn't mean that character is going to mix well with the rest. That's also a really bland way to describe your character. People have unique personalities and are never simply serious, calm, or nice.
• The character is not a socially open person. This is, in fact, different than the previous point. Being part of a crew means that these characters will have to take orders, cooperate, and sometimes even... compromise. Gasp! Bottom line, trust is essential, and unbending egotism can stay at the dock, thanks.
• The character is unsuited to her position. Navigators must be very conscientious of their surroundings and calculative of their positions, working together with other crew members to keep the ship on track, but not taking the lead in deciding where to go. Logkeepers must be very studious and committed to keeping records. Of course, characters should not fit these exact molds, but they should be suited to the tasks they will be called upon to perform.
• The character has an unusual name. By no means do I want everyone to be named Howard or James, but keep in mind that this IS supposed to be based on the real 18th century. People all had relatively normal last names back then, and almost no one had begun to experiment with funny spellings. (Yes, I realize Lysandr breaks this rule. His parents were a little... unique.)
• The character has an inexplicable scar. Nothing bothers me more than scars that have no story. If you give your character a scar, PLEASE tell us how it came to be. In addition, this character has a particularly stereotypical scar location. Not all scars are on the face, and even fewer are Kovu scars.
• The character is Japanese. Japan is not a bad place. It's just very stereotypical and it doesn't make a great deal of sense since Japan wasn't even industrialized until the 1900s and never really had pirates in the sense we know them. Pirates didn't have any reason to visit Japan as it was a long trip and with not much gain.
• Don't even get me started on the cat.

NAME: Nathaniel Oliver Newton

POSITION: Doctor

NICKNAME (if any): Nate, Oli. Also called Nonnikins, but usually only by his mother.

AGE: 31

GENDER/NATIONALITY: Male, English

SHORT BACKGROUND:  His father was a distinguished military general, and his mother was an elite socialite. He grew up in a wealthy home, and is an only child. His father wanted him to follow in his footsteps, but when he was 14 he was kicked in the knee by a horse, and any hope of fighting went out the window. Not wanting to dissapoint his father, he began studying to be a doctor. His parents were very encouraging, and found him a tutor to teach him about the uses of different plants. He graduated from a well renowned school of medicine at the age of 22, and climbed his way through the ranks to Senior Medical Officer on one England's top airships. His ship was attacked, however, and a close friend of his was killed in the battle. After that, he decided to retire from his military position, but wanted to keep practicing medicine. He instead turned to Lee's vessel --he had heard good word about the man when he was enlisted on a ship with Lee's older brother, and decided to give it a shot.

APPEARANCE:  Growing up in a high class family and being a military man, Nathaniel is very clean-cut. His hair is medium brown, short and well trimmed. He has a bit of a tan, but is still relatively pale. His eyes are a light steely gray-blue, but they darken considerably if he is upset. He is not overly muscular, but he is still quite strong.

RELEVANT SKILLS:  He is a very knowledgable herbologist, and knows the look, texture, and effect of nearly every plant in existence. He can make a medicine or remedy for most common afflictions. He can perform sugery (well, as extensive surgery as one can do, in the 18th century) and remove bullets and debris from wounds. He can also construct simple but effective casts for broken bones.

PERSONALITY:  Though he is young, he often takes to a fatherly role and scolds his patients for injuring themselves and being careless. He is very kind, and although he can be somewhat of a stick in the mud at first, once he opens up he is a generally fun-loving person, and often teases and jokes with his friends. He rarely gets angry, and he is very loyal and protective of the people he cares about. There are nights when he wakes up very crabby with shadows under his eyes and a scowl on his face, but he can usually be cheered up by a cup of tea. He is easily embarrassed, and turns beet red if around pretty women.

OTHER: Though his permanent limp, left over from his injury as a child, may make him seem defenseless, he can shoot a gun fairly well and carries one with him at all times --a hand gun given to him by his father.

WHY DO YOU WISH TO JOIN THIS CREW? He wants to continue practicing medicine, but didn't want to stay in the military after his friend was killed and wants to start over somewhere new.
