Normal User Posts: 652	Because water doesnt conduct electricity, the minerals in it does. So if it hits the ocean, it takes too long zapping each piece of salt that it doesn't get to the fish 8I

Normal User Posts: 449	Lightning strikes on open seas are rare. Water conducts electricity but this is reduced by the salt levels in the ocean. The sheer size of the ocean dissipates the electrical energy from the lightning bolt as it faults to earth. If anyone or any fish were unlucky enough to be very close to a bolt as it hit the ocean then there is a good chance that they would die. But this is extremely unlikely to happen

So the more space it has the thinner or weaker the strike,the smaller place, the lighting can not excape,so it has to go someplace..to any poor creature that'll take the hit,i guess. Normal User Posts: 239	Because the fish have adapted to this and a few strikes of lightening does not fry them; however when struck with abnormal amounts of electricity they fry and there you go, fish food for you XD hmm...that one thing....what was it that i- Oh hey look a skitty O.O

Normal User Posts: 2,290	Because the ocean, covers a large area, yes, but is not as conductive. so lightning does not strike the ocean very often, and do to the sear mass of the ocean, it is barely affected.
