Oh wow. ColdCaptivated got it all correct.
1. Laya has creatu named Asurada and HayatoKazami. Where did these names come from? (Laya is looking for two words, although the full name is better of course.)
-A classic anime titled Future GPX Cyber Formula, which still reruns in the Philippines on weekends as Cyber Formula, dubbed in Filipino. Asurada is the sassy cyberbrain that runs the racecar driven by young Hayato Kazami. It's not exactly the car itself, since Asurada can be transferred to another car, which in turn itself becomes the Asurada. Hayato wasn't supposed to be the driver, since he was too young, but the Asurada was his dad's invention, and due to some accident it answers only to him.
2. Laya also has creatu named Hertasi and K'Sheyna. Where did these names come from? (Laya ish looking for the name of a place in a book series.)
-Mercedes Lackey wrote a lot of books set in Velgarth, also informally referred to as the Valdemar Saga. It chronicles life in the kingdom of Valdemar, in which peace and order is kept by white-clad Heralds and their Companions, which are like horses, but not quite. Its neighboring countries are Karse, Iftel, Rethwellan and Hardorn. Hertasi are lizard-like beings which originally lived in villages in the middle of swamps, and bartered service to the Hawkbrothers, or Tayledras, for sustenance and protection. K'Sheyna is a Hawkbrother clan which figures prominently in the Mage Winds books.
3. Laya has a dragon on her profile (the same one on her forum siggy). Who is the author of the books from which the dragon's name is taken?
-Mnementh is the bronze dragon ridden by Benden Weyrleader F'lar in the Pern books written by Anne McCaffrey. He is the mate of the golden queen dragon Ramoth, "the largest dragon in all of Pern." Benden's leaders are recognized as the leaders of all the weyrs of Pern, and the other weyrleaders generally look to F'lar and his Weyrwoman Lessa for advice.
4. Laya has a sepia veram named after a book. Who is the author of this book?
-The ti
tle of the book Noli Me Tangere, meaning Do Not Touch Me, is taken from the Bible. It was written by Jose Rizal in Spanish in the 1800s, and depicts the situation in the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule, for which reason it was banned in the country. It has a sequel, El Filibusterismo, or The Reign of Greed. Rizal was executed for treason against Spain, but became an emblem in the fight for Philippine Independence, later becoming the country's official National Hero. From all accounts, he was a genius.
5. Laya has a favorite heroine, but the series from which the book she is in is taken has TWO heroines. Who is the other (and first) heroine of the series?
-Laya's favorite heroine is Esmay Suiza of Altiplano in the Serrano Legacy Series, but the first heroine of the series is Heris Serrano. Esmay eventually marries Heris' cousin Barin.
6. GenjyoSanzo and ShaGojo are characters in what anime?
-Genjyo Sanzo, Sha Gojo, Cho Hakkai, and Son Goku are the lead characters in the anime Gensomaden Saiyuki and its sequels. Saiyuki is based on the Chinese epic Journey to the West, also known as the story of the Monkey King.
7. How many couples are there in Laya's zenirix collection? The one who can name all the couples and the animes they come from gets an additional 15k.
-Three couples. HimeSakura and SyaoranLi, named after Sakura and Syaoran in the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, an alternate world spinoff of the beloved CardCaptor Sakura anime. SaotomeRanma and TendoAkane, named after Ranma and Akane in the hilarious Ranma 1/2 anime. ReccaHanabishi and YanageSakoshita, named after Recca and Yanage in the Flame of Recca anime.
8. What is the connection between Prideth and Gary Tobai? Laya is looking for one word only.
-Kylara. Kylara is the snooty weyrwoman in Anne McCaffrey's Pern series, the rider of golden Prideth, Ramoth's first daughter. She's the character everyone loves to hate, especially as her attitude caused the death of Prideth and Brekke's queen Wirenth. Anne McCaffrey collaborated with Elizabeth Moon on the Planet Pirates series, and later Elizabeth wrote the Vatta Series, the heroine of which is Kylara Vatta, captain of the spaceship Gary Tobai. Laya keeps speculating as to why Elizabeth Moon gave her heroine the same name as that of one of the most reviled characters in the Pern books. She likes to believe it's so that Kylara may redeem herself. LOL.
Laya's little trivia contest ends here...
at least until she can think up some more questions to ask!
