Hello, peeps! :D

So...today I weighed myself for the first time in forever, and discovered I was 210 pounds...which is MASSIVE for someone who's 5' even.

And Req (Requiem) suggested that we'd do a weightloss challenge, only with cash prizes in RL (I'll be doing a competition with Req/my family separate)

But then I thought...why not bring the Res community into it?

So here's how this will work!:

-edit- I'm going to make a few small changes. This will still be a competition, but I will also be including those who need to gain healthy weight/want to gain muscle. As for the weight loss, I will be judging based on percentage rather than just overall pounds. So say two people lose 5 pounds each but one person weighs 180 while the other weighs 200, the person who weighed 180 pounds would win because they lost more weight based on their body mass. -hope that made sense....-  Also, I will be extending the raffle dates from once a week to once a month. That way people can lose weight at a healthy rate. I will also be giving those who reach their goals a massive prize (i.e. CS item, 20mil+ pets, etc.)

While this is a competition, I also want people to understand that this is just more than that. It is to help people who cannot be motivated to work out by themselves and to be motivated by those who are working towards the same goal: to be healthy. I also wish to warn those who do enter: PLEASE do not overdo it! Losing too much weight in a short amount of time can be hazardous. Aim for a realistic goal (even losing one pound a week) and keep at it. There will be times where it will plateau, but push through it! Have fun, stay safe and lets get healthy together!

Starting May 1st, each entrant will post a picture of their weight on a scale along with the date (or a video, either works). The following week (May 8th), each entrant would post their weight again (hopefully with some results!) and whoever loses the most weight wins that week!

This can be an ongoing thing for anyone who wishes to lose a ton of weight, and no better way to motivate someone than with some competition, no? And better yet, prizes! :D

There will be two separate prize pools for those who wish to donate and who don't.

Those who don't will have a chance to win 5mil for that month!

And those who do donate, all donations will be pooled together with a minimum of 5mil into the pool! (or whatever I have available -w-)

I hope you guys will partake in this, as everyone will have something to benefit...both physically and financially!

Also, for any health nuts out there who would like to give tips/exercises to those partaking, it would be much appreciated!

I think I might join in on this. Mainly because I could go to lose some weight, after losing my brother and wrecking my car into a deer this month and some other stuffs happening the previous months, my weights gotten out of control, to put it nicely.
This seems like a fun way for me to get motivated possibly.

I think it's really unhealthy to focus on weight when trying to be healthy.  Focusing on portioning meals, healthy food choices, eliminating processed foods and exercising should be the main focus of any change in diet and lifestyle.  Besides, weight isn't a sign of health.  My sister weighs almost as much as I do and she's much thinner, but hers is muscle.  If you're keen on improving your health you should look for long term solutions and not be trying to lose weight in a week.  That's REALLY unhealthy, besides the fact it's usual to lose 5 pounds in 3-4 weeks for the weight loss to be healthy, possibly a bit more if you have a poor diet to begin with.  Trying to have a competition like this is REALLY unhealthy and pushes people to try and get weight off quickly, the only way to really do so is in ways that will put the weight right back on as well as promoting poor nutrition. I am all for encouraging one another to be healthy and to love themselves but I REALLY feel this isn't the way to do it.  I really think having a group thread that supports healthy life choices and keeping on track would be much more beneficial.  This just feels like shaming people if they can't lose weight.  Heck someone might lose inches and gain weight in muscle.

I'm sorry for this post, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, I just really worry about society's obsession with weight loss that's gotten so far that it's rare that people know what is and isn't good for their body.  I just really want everyone to take care of themselves and not be in danger.

Love you all, you're beautiful just as you are.

Sagi

PS, the weight loss of 5 pounds in three weeks is with a proper exercise regime and cutting out a lot of processed foods.

Also I would like to add that this competition would be massively unfair to those trying to gain weight as it's usual for gaining to be more difficult with a high metabolism.  Also, it is far easier for someone who is obese to lose more weight than someone who is only moderately overweight.  Besides that every person has a different plateau weight in which it is very difficult to lose weight at even with drastic changes in lifestyle.

i was only aiming for 1 lb a week if that one of the officers that is a crossfit trainer said that was a good goal..but i do think that this is an eXcellent way for me to be motivated because i just cant seem to kick my lazy rump in gear maybe this will help. i know i am at a really unhealthy weight and bmi and it would be in my best interest for me and for my kid if i was a healthier person. id like to have the energy to run around and play with him more and not get winded because i am just so out of shape its really sad imo.

i was really looking fwd to this :/

Sagi I know your concern..thats why Im going to change the format of this just a bit when May 1st comes around, plus I'll give a warning out to everyone. This is going to be a long term thing until most if not everyone meets there goals. And I know a contest may not be the absolute best thing for everyone, but for some people who cant get motivated by themselves, I think a little friendly competition would be enough for people to get motivated. If you guys have any more feedback I would very much like to hear it ^^

You know, its also how you life is..
i mean.. my life is depressing, and i have
deep depression probs. And i heard it also,
not only adds weight, but even if you diet,
you will probly not loose anything if your
body is still under deep stress or depression.
so,
its hard for me.

I tried slim fast diets,
I tried eating lean meat, and yogerts,
and 0 trans fat stuff.

Still,i only loose maybe 2 pounds.

I was thinking more about this last night and was thinking maybe you could have a sort of raffle at the end of the week for everyone that met all their goals for the week?  Everyone could post their goals at the beginning of the week, then at the end everyone could check in and say how the week went, feel proud for reaching their personal goals and get support from all the lovely RESidents here.  I feel like it would also help people not to feel discouraged for not being able to lose weight as quickly, or put weight on as quickly as others.

For example, for myself I try and do a hard 20 minute workout two or three times a week and an easy one three times a week.  That and I tend to snack on too many grain products instead of fruit and veg so my usual goal is to try and have something healthy on hand when I get hungry during the day.  By keeping to these goals I've lost inches, but not weight as I've been gaining muscle, but I still feel super proud because I can now zip up a dress I bought that was too small.  A another inch or two of loss and I'll fit into it!  This sort of workout isn't for everyone though!  I'm trying to lose inches relatively quickly, in a healthy manner, so I can fit into my dress for a convention I'm dressing up for.  Others might not be as keen to work out as much as I am, or might have more difficulty adjusting their diets, or might be unable to afford a huge diet change because of finances.

With this positive reinforcement of fitting into my dress I feel super proud.  I think if I had to focus on just weight loss I would feel super discouraged as I have been fluctuating in weight a lot.  With everyone making their own goals they can work at their own pace and still feel proud of what they accomplished, as they should.

With it being a raffle, it would encourage people to finish their goals and have a chance at winning a prize, rather then feeling shamed for not being 'as good' as anyone else.

MissHalloween, that isn't a good diet change to have. 8C I am currently also suffering from sever depression so I can empathize with how you feel.  My body image is really warped and I constantly feel absolutely awful.  Slimfast diets and cutting out certain foods aren't good ways to make your body feel better or lose weight.  Fad diets like that rarely work, and often you will put the weight right back on once you stop the diet, or sometimes gain more.  If you want you can rmail me and we can maybe come up with a better idea of healthy diet choices that might help you.  <3
