Black Wolf
The life of a wolf is so black
Disgraced by others
seeking what they lack
Others think them less than kin
Less a blessing than a sin
A gun shot sounds
The game plan lost
A dead son or daughter
The untimely cost
Hunting is a deadly part
A howl, a nip, a bitter bark
And the price to pay is a broken rip
And a slowly dying heart
On birthing day
Fourtane is hurled
Destinies are altered ... swirled
The whimper of helpless, newborn life
The air cold and cutting as a knife
So with all the brutal pains and deaths
For each last is a first breath
So if pups and hunts and love -
Such miracles among the pack -
continue on throughout their days,
perhaps wolves' lives don't have to be so...
black.
Everyone has wonderful poems! It will be hard deciding who wins. ^.^
This may not seem to be a happy poem, but note the ending paragraph - the main message is hope through hard times. :3
Christmas Present
The flashing lights
The cold winter bites
I feel warmth spread throughout my limbs
Even in this box ... so dim
Wrapped up in a Christmas bow
Hiding the digust, the filth - how low.
Buying such a helpless pet
For someone who could not care less
Typical story - out in the gutter
Wrapped in bows, coldness; I shudder
Cars splash by, filled with Christmas banter
Why can't I be rescued by Blitzen and Prancer?
Visions run through my unscarred brain
My crunched up bones - I rather be slain.
I curl up in the cold, cold frost
feeling life ebb away - my death is no loss.

1 Year Later
_____________
I tear up bows and wrapping paper
I am no longer a Christmas caper
A muddled mutt with a purebred heart
The childrens' hugs are the best part
Of this Christmas morning, blanketed with snow
No longer am I wrapped in a soggy bow.
In my new home, I worship the good
The mighty Christ and my new owners who could
Have left me on that curb that day
But now in this new bed I lay
With cheer in my mind and smells in the air
My doggedness senses the real pleasure - care.
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!
