I grumbled irritatedly as I walked closer. Hurriedly, I came to her side and to grasp her attention, I cupped both hands on her cheeks and looked her straight in the eyes.
"What I mean is, do you care about me? Do you like being around me? Do you think I'm funny or annoying or just plain stupid. Do I scare you? Just... What do you think of me?"

I crossed my arms.
"Where it's going is you just playing games with me. So I want you to leave me alone this time so that I don't feel stronger about you. It'll just hurt us both."
