As Anthony spits up the last little bits of bile and pizza from his vomiting away from his face and clothes, he hears the Dragon Lady ask him if he was good. As an answer, Anthony gives a slow nod, and then breathes in deeply, while listening to her other question.

Why you’re following me?” she asks of him, which causes Anthony to look up at her carefully, and stand up slowly keeping his hands where she can see them.

“A hello would be the first thing to say” he replies, looking calmly at her, and regarding her stance. He knew he could rush her and get his family knife back easily, but for now he would let her think she was in charge.

“The second…” he adds, tasting his bile once more, “Think I can I get some water?”

There is, I think, humor here which does not translate well from English into sanity.

Totally oblivous to everyting but the food in his hand Reito whistled cheerfully as he followed Ennie though Rizzio seemed to grow weary once they approached the building. That weariness however didn't stop the dragon from snapping at the assassin when he shoved a few chicken nuggets in his mouth.
"Will you not eat that garbage!"
"I am eating it now!" The assassin cheerfully announced out loud, serving to only further irritate the dragon.
"Would you be quiet? Someone might here you?"
"Whats wrong with being heard?"
"Idiot, don't talk to me in a public place!"
"Why not?"
"It might attract hunters?"
"I'm attractive to hunters?"
"Eh..."
The dragon wasn't quite sure how to answer that one, in short yes but not like that. Instead he decided to stay silent until they where until they where in Vincents room. At the moment Rizzio still wasn't sure why they where here in the first place. Why exactly did they just arbitrarily follow these people? The dragon had been against it from the beginning but he hadn't stopped Reito. He hoped that wasn't a big mistake, they had been doing okay in the past year alone as far as he was concerned.
Meanwhile Reito completely fixated on Misty, taking a good look at her for the first time. "Its the smiling Maine half-raccoon!" He suddenly shouted cheerfully and shot forward  and gleefully started rubbing the cats fur. "I wanna floof its fur!"
"No, no floofing!"
"But its sooo fluffy!"
"Your going to make her mad! I don't think cats like that!"
"But how can they not like being floofed?"
"They are cats! They deserve respect too!"
"I am respectfully floofing!"
"Thats not how it works, your might get stratched or bitten."
Actually, Reito deserved to be scratched as far as Rizzio was concerned but there was only one problem. His vessel might deserve it but he sure didn't! "Hey, other dragon guy are you as old as the awesome granny dragon lady?"
At this point Rizzio was straight up shocked  into silence, the dragon simply could not process this level of disrespect and couldn't formulate a proper response.

“There, all done.” The doctor's voice stirred Vincent from his conversation with his other half. There was a gauze patch taped over each of the wounds that had been on his shoulder, no doubt covering the stitches to prevent infection. The area was still blissfully numb, but he had a feeling the pain would be back.

“Now,” the doctor stepped back into view, picking up his clipboard, “the anesthetic will wear off eventually, but I’m going to prescribe some painkillers so it doesn't get unbearable.”

Can you read minds? Vincent thought as he nodded. A more coherent version of himself would think that perhaps the doctor had simply planned to say that all along.

“I need to ask first, are you on any other medications?”

“Yes,” Vincent responded, “I am taking prozac twice a day.” The sentence was practiced, information he was familiar with giving.

“All right, thank you. I will prescribe something that doesn't interact with it.”

As the doctor turned to leave, a somewhat frazzled nurse hurried into the room, wheeling an IV hook behind her. “Oh! You've taken care of him already! Great!” she squeezed past the considerably taller man, who watched her with interest as he stepped to the side.

“I was actually supposed to put this in before the doctor arrived, but I was held up. So sorry!” Vincent felt a bit of sympathy for the poor girl; she must be fairly new, or perhaps just having a particularly difficult day.

She grabbed his arm unexpectedly and Vincent flinched, trying to pull away. She let him go, seeming a bit confused. “What’s the matter?”

The doctor stepped towards the bed and put a hand on the nurse's shoulder. “He’s a little anxious,” he explained, and Vincent silently thanked him.

“Oooh, okay. I'm sorry, dear. I didn't realize.” she said, smiling at the blonde-haired man.

“It's… alright,” Vincent smiled weakly back at her. Misty chose this opportunity to rub her head affectionately against her human's side.

“Is it alright if I take your arm?” the nurse asked first this time, and the sun dragon nodded.

“I need to go and get this preion set up,” the doctor announced, making his way to the door. “I'll be back.”

Ugh, more needles, Vincent thought tiredly as the nurse set the IV into his arm. The faint ache that stayed constant while the IV was stuck there was probably his least favourite part of visiting the hospital.

“Okay, you're good to go!” she exclaimed, patting him on his good shoulder. “I'll bring you a gown and a blanket in a minute.” And with that, Vincent was left alone once more. Well, as alone as he could be, given the cat beside him and the dragon in his head.

---

The blonde man was lying down when the hurried scuffle of footsteps and quiet voices approached his room. The doctor had given him a preion for some… stronger version of ibuprofen or something about twenty minutes ago, and he was just starting to doze off again when the familiar scent of a very specific fast food establishment drew him back to consciousness.

Vincent sat up a bit as they came in, mindful of the IV, and the cat in his lap. The sun dragon was surprised at just how many paper bags the two had carried between them. He flashed a grin as Ennie exclaimed her relief.

“It'll take more than a couple of bullets to do me in,” he quipped as the door was shut, reaching for a happy meal and a box of nuggets to share with Misty.

Splitting a nugget in two, he offered one half to his feline companion whilst popping the other into his mouth. Food was definitely a great idea after tonight's incident. He hadn't had McDonald's in a long time, but he couldn't deny that McNuggets tasted very good, especially when he was hungry. As he reached for another nugget, he paused to consider Ennie's question.

He really should have told her much sooner. “some people want to kill you” should be the first lesson in Dragon 101, but he just… couldn't spark that anxiety in his friend. He had been a fool to not realize that it would have been better to tell her sooner.

“I… appreciate that you aren't assuming I've done something,” Vincent chuckled, a little awkwardly, “but no, those men in the forest were not muggers, as I said. They… were part of a group of people that dedicate their lives to hunting down and… killing dragons. I know I should have told you about them sooner, but the both of us were in relative safety, and the last thing I wanted was to make you afraid to leave your own home.” He stuffed another nugget into his mouth and grabbed for a drink of unknown variety that sat on the table beside the bed. Swallowing the nugget, he took a sip and determined that it was iced tea.

“I’m… sorry, Ennie. I never wanted you to learn about the Hunters this way.”

The turbulent thoughts of the rainforest dragon compelled Helios to reach out, to help in some way. The distress of her other half came off of the girl in waves, instilling a pang of empathy in the sun dragon. He had been there.

Vincent had been seventeen when he'd come across the stone, resting amongst a pile of duller rocks and pebbles crumbling down the side of a mountain. He had transformed instantly just as the sun broke off of the horizon, taking flight and forcing his vessel into unconsciousness in his confusion. Thankfully, an older man whom his vessel had befriended had been a gale dragon, and was able to help ease his transition into being a supernatural entity, but the road had been rocky for centuries. Vincent outlived everyone he cared for; even the other dragon. He lived an isolated existence, despite often living amongst humans, refraining from making connections with people he would inevitably outlive.

The man was strong-- stronger than Helios would sometimes realize, and had struggled heavily as a child, suffering abuse at the hands of his guardian after his father's death. Helios was privy to those memories, even the ones Vincent's mind had deemed so traumatic that they must be locked away. The sun dragon did what he could to help, making himself a strong and comforting presence in Vincent’s mind, but there had been a time in which he believed he had made everything worse. Centuries of coexistence had remedied that feeling, for the most part, but even he had moments of doubt-- Vincent would not have been hurt so badly, been so terrified, tonight, if not for himself.

Helios wished for Astley to hear those thoughts; to know that even a dragon he perceived as confident and wise doubted himself. “тнιѕ ℓιƒє... ιт ιѕ ησт єαѕу, ƒσя υѕ, σя ƒσя συя νєѕѕєℓѕ,” he spoke, willing his voice to reach the younger dragon. “вυт ιт ιѕ ησт уσυя ƒαυℓт, ησя ιѕ ιт нєяѕ. тнєяє ιѕ ησ ωαу тσ ¢нσσѕє тнє нυмαη ωнσ ƒяєєѕ уσυ ƒяσм уσυя ѕтσηє. ιт ιѕ υρ тσ ƒαтє.” He knew his words may not be as comforting as he wanted them to; in truth, Helios had not spoken to another dragon since… since before the stone. The sun dragon was trying, truly.

---

Misty made a startled noise as the funny-smelling human suddenly shot towards her and fluffed her fur. Most other cats might bite or scratch in this scenario, but she simply endured it with a rather amusing look of shock on her face, making a faint noise of discomfort. Her human, just as startled by the sudden movement, nearly dropping the plastic toy he had idly pulled from the box beside him, spoke warily to the unpredictable man.

“Ah,” he said, focusing his gaze on the happy meal toy he had apparently grabbed, rather than on Ennie, whom he had literally just told there were people trying to kill her, or the eccentric moon dragon, “I was born in 1739, which makes me two-hundred and eighty years old. I’ve been with Helios for two-hundred and sixty-three.”

Ennie had to admit the news was..shocking. Not shocking enough for her to stop eating, no, she had yet to encounter something as mind-blowing as that, but shocking nonetheless. The more she chewed it over, however, the more it began to make sense. She remembered her family's reaction upon seeing her 'other side', that coupled with the fact that humans had an affinity for destroying things they didn't understand and the puzzle pieces fell oh so cleanly into place. "Makes sense," she nodded nonchalantly and chewed at the toe of a foot-shaped nugget. The strange, death-like scent that accompanied the hunters came to mind, and she thought back to other instances where she detected something similar. A memory ,from a different city and a different life, of a pair of men approaching her in a subway as she waited for a train, drawing knives on her and yelling threatening things as she glared up from the phone she was scrolling on. She remembered how she cursed back at them, flipping the two of them off as her train pulled into the station and she jumped aboard, throwing them yet another obscene gesture through the window as she sped away. Had she honestly come that close to possible demise? How many other instances of 'Humans Being Jerks' were actually unsuccessful attempts on her life by Hunters? Probably too many, she thought, chalking her survival up to sheer, dumb luck. "That, uh, actually explains a lot." Ennie mumbled thoughtfully, quirking a smile at Vincent. "I've, uh, ran into a lot of jerky humans and uh... This kinda sheds some light on that. Here I thought it was just my charming personality bringing out the worst in folks. But I guess it is a fair exchange, right?" she glanced in Reito's direction. "Almost immortal, your other ride's a dragon, get to spit needles... Or is that...is that just a 'me' thing? Anyway, if the downside of that is 'Folks kinda want you dead', it's a fair trade to me!"

'You don't really mean that,' Astley whined from the back of her mind. 'You can tell the truth, you know? At least to me.'

"I am telling the truth, Dingus.'

'Because I'd understand,' he continued, and Ennie had to physically resist the urge to roll her eyes. 'I'd hate me too for all the things I took from you.'

'Lee, listen, buddy, dude. I'm not angry. I'll never be angry. If I have to spell it out for you, I will. Okay? I, right now, am eating a gross amount of food.'

'Yes, I see that. Especially the gross food.'

'I own a Hyundai Kona, and can travel basically anywhere on the continent on a whim.'

'That's really cool of you, but I don't get-'

'At home, I own a Nintendo Switch, of which I'm super proud of.'

'Yeah, me too, totally. Still not following you in the-'

'I have a piece of technology, in my hand right now, that has the ability to store hundreds of songs at my fingertips!'

'Yes! I see that! You have bad taste by the way and I still don't see what this has anything to do with me-'

'I wouldn't have any of this without you, Lee. I probably wouldn't have lived to see the end of the 1800's. I would have died poor, probably famished, maybe even starved to death. I wouldn't have owned anything, I wouldn't know what the heck a Nintendo even is, and music was honestly kinda crap back then.'

'Not an MC Hammer in sight.'

'Exactly,' She smiled contently and picked up another nugget. 'You brought me here, Astley. You think you took everything from me, but honestly you've given me everything I have. Now stop being such a girl and enjoy the gosh darned food.'

Just like Astley's own chaotic nature, the tumultuous atmosphere in Ennie's corner of the room changed like the flip of a switch into a far more calming, bright essence. Judging from her outward reaction, Ennie wasn't bothered at all by the sudden change, rather it seemed she was used to talking her dragon side down from mental breakdowns, content smile barely even twitching as she devoured the last of her Happy Meal. "Oh, a Shaymin." she inspected her Pokemon toy with fervent excitement. "It's always grass types with me and I have absolutely no idea why."

Astley seemed similarly content as he reached out cautiously to Helios. 'Heeeeeey, so, I talked to Ennie. Because I should have. Ages ago. And, well, the professional opinion is that I should...stop being such a girl. But, I gotta say, I liked your advice better, bro. Thanks, man. And can I just say that this is wild, you know? Talking-talking to another dragon. Isn't it just wild? I think it is. You know what else I think? Well actually-actually I wanna know what you think. Humus? Thoughts?'

When the kittens had fallen fast asleep Tucker finally started to relax from his nightmare. Then hearing voices he turned around. He saw a women and what appeared to be her daughter walking out of the hospital. The little girl was in a wheelchair and she was completely bald. Tucker looked at the girl with sadness in his eyes. He knew exactly what she was going through. Tucker watched as the mother pushed the girl in her wheelchair up to a van that had its sliding door open and a wheelchair ramp extended. The mother started to push the girl up the ramp when the mother lost her grip. Immediately Tucker ran to catch the wheelchair before it tumbled off of the ramp. The mother's ex
pression turned from fear and shock to relief, "thank you so much sir!" She said with a smile. Tucker blushed with embarrassment as he didn't normally get compliments, "it was no problem at all, I just like to help out" Tucker handed the wheel chair back to the mother. The girl was smiling brightly, her blue eyes filled with hope. Tucker was curious to her ex
pression but paid no mind to it.

After Tucker had helped load the wheel chair into the van and the girl was all strapped in the mother turned to him "is there anything I can do to repay you?" She asked Tucker. He shook his head and gave the women a warm smile, "no need to repay me ma'me, to see you appreciate my help is enough" The women smiled back at Tucker, "I wish there were a lot more people in the world like you" she said "I hope to see you again, Mr?" Tucker slightly bowed "Tucker, Tucker Vasiliev" he said, hoping she didn't recognize his family name. She smiled "I'm Kate Brenner, it was a pleasure to meet you"

Ten minutes later, Tucker had sat back down at the bus stop. He sighed and put his hands behind his head. The kittens were still fast asleep in his coat. His mind started to wander off, wondering if anyone out there was as nice as Kate and would look past his family and just get to know the fun, cat-loving side.

The man was... surprisingly calm to be held at knife point. Like he wasn't taking Merce seriously. Which, for a woman who people rarely ever respected due to her age, size, or gender, made her flush angrily. "You don't deserve a friendly platitude." She all but snarled, giving the stranger the hairy eyeball. "Not considering you were following me."
"Stop talking to him and get on with the threatening!" Amphora screeched in her head, and Merce could almost see the dragon chittering and stomping her feet like an irate honey badger. She chose to ignore the giant lizard and focus fully on the man. His question caught her off guard, however, and she hummed with confusion.
"Water?" She mouthed, brows wrinkling. Was he even in any kind of position to be asking her anything? Huffing, Merce debated her options and in the end it was her gentle heart that won out. "There's a small cafe right around the corner from here." She finally bit out, and could feel Amphora whimper. 'Hush! You know as well as I do that in all likelihood he could get this blade back and kill us both. Better to be around other people to witness my gruesome murder so maybe he'll be sent to prison.'
"Yet we'll still be dead..."
'Not helping.' Rolling her eyes, which she regretted instantly due to the fact the man had no idea she was conversing with a mythical beast in her head, Merce cleared her throat awkwardly and motioned towards the mouth of the alley. "You want water, you first. And I keep the knife."

As the lady agreed to his unusual request, Anthony looked at the knife for a second, before raising an eyebrow. “You know you will need to hide the knife before we go in there, right?”

As he says that, he remembers the noise he heard from the Lady which caused him to vomit. “Uh… If you want something to eat as well, seeing as I interrupted your food run, I can always get you something. Then maybe you and I can talk like civilised creatures.”

"Would you stop tormenting that poor cat and listen to them! I was just trying to warn you about those people when you crashed us into a tree!"
"Eh, but you where the one distracting me?"
"I didn't distract you! You where paying to much attention to what was going on the ground!"
"But you shouted tree and it threw me off!"
"I was trying to warn you but you didn't react fast enough!"
"Well how am I supposed to do that? Your body is really big and that wing span is at least forty feet! How am I supposed to move fast enough to dodge trees?!"
"Maybe don't fly so close to the trees in the first place?"
"But there was something interesting happening down there!"
"It was not interesting, there where hunters down there!"
"But hunters are interesting though! We should totally find them and make friends!"
"No!"
"We should flee town and find a safe spot to lay low!"
"But I don't wanna flee town and lay low, I just met new dragon friends!"
"They are not our friends! You and I literally just met them!"
"But I don't wanna leave my new friends!"
"Fine! Try and take them with you! I dare you."
"Okay!"
"I just made a grave mistake didn't I....?"
Reith pretty much completely missed everything else that was happening due to his debate with his dragon but that wasn't anything new however his eyes grew wide when Vincent mentioned his age. "Woah! Your old. Wait, why aren't you wrinkly or something? Or are you just like hiding it with magic or something?" The assassin asked seemingly unaware of how rude he might come off as but Rizzio wasn't. "Thats rude!" The dragon wasn't at all expecting what his vessel would do next. Unfortunately Reito's actions where still largely unpredictable to the dragon but it served to both horrify and greatly embarrass the dragon. Without even sparing the time to think his actions through the assassins hand shot forward and pinched Vincents cheek. "Huh, not wrinkly at all?" He stated sounding greatly puzzled.
The very much horrified Rizzio almost instantly seized control of Reito's body, letting go of the dragon and leaping back where he bowed his head. "My sincerest apologies! I am still teaching my vessel manners!"  The dragon spoke through Reito and though his voice was the same his mannerisms where completely different. Respectful and a bit austere the dragon was greatly horrified by his vessels actions. "Huh, why did you do that?" Reito asked a bit confused by the dragons actions but otherwise unaffected. He didn't seem to mind the sudden and brief loss of control at all.
"Eh, oh yeah! Rizzio said we should all flee town together!" Reito said bouncing back, cheerfully returning to his earlier argument with the dragon.  "He seems very worried about those hunter guys but I personally think we should find them and make friends! What do you guys think?" The assassin asked glancing between the two as he stuffed a handful of chicken nuggets in his mouth. "Tasty fine dining right there!"
"One day you'll see what fine dining really is...I'll make sure of it!"

Vincent flinched, an ex
pression mirroring Misty’s on his face, as Reito pulled at his cheeks. The unpredictability of this man was going to send him into cardiac arrest, for goodness sake. “The dragons have magic,” he explained, voice strained, “it drastically slows the aging of their human vessels, so we live longer. That’s also why we heal faster than normal, and why our senses are stronger.”

He was grateful as Rizzio took over, forcing Reito to step back and leave him be. “It’s ah… alright,” he assured the frustrated dragon, “I’m not exactly offended, or anything.” The sun dragon chuckled a little as his sentence ended.

Ennie seemed to be taking the revelation rather well, which was… good? When he had learned about the Hunters, Vincent had been too afraid to leave his own home for at least a week. He was glad, at least, that she wasn’t mad at him for not warning her about them sooner. That didn’t make him feel any less bad about it, though. He really should have said something before one of them got shot.

At least it was me, he thought, examining the plastic toy in his hand. At least she didn’t get hurt and not understand why.

“Ah, yes, that would… probably explain those encounters. I’m glad they didn’t seriously hurt you.” Very, very glad, he added mentally as he took a bite of a caramel-dipped apple slice.

Despite the somber atmosphere, Vincent had to chuckle at Ennie’s statement. “Yes, I suppose it is a fair trade for the abilities we possess.” Needles? Was that what she had done to the Hunter in the forest? “I… think the needles are just you? I do this… thing where I shoot light out of my mouth and it sets things on fire,” he explained, wishing there was a better way to describe it. “All dragons possess some form of self-defense, but it seems to vary based on what type you are.”

The silence gradually became more relaxed, and Vincent finally noticed the lack of mental input from his dragon. Helios? Are you alright?

“ι αм ƒιηє, νιη¢єηт.” the dragon replied, soothing the faint worry that had stirred within his vessel, “ι ѕρσкє тσ αѕтℓєу.”

So you can speak to other dragons, the blonde-haired man hummed in thought. I won’t ask what was spoken about, he added, wishing to respect the privacy of the dragons’ conversation, but I’m glad you did.

“Shaymin?” Vincent asked, looking at the little green hedgehog-like animal in Ennie’s hand. “I apologize, I don’t know much about Pokemon. It is very cute, though.” He looked down to his own, which he had placed on his lap, and was now being investigated by Misty. It was a black and white lion-looking creature, with a mane that resembled a star, streaked with red and yellow. He might have seen it in commercials for one of the recent games. “What is this one called?” He picked it up, so that Ennie could see it.

Helios purred with amusement, happy that Astley had spoken to Ennie. The tension he had felt within them had melted away, leaving a calmer environment behind. He was glad to have helped. “ι... єηנσу нυммυѕ,” he replied. “ѕσмєтιмєѕ, νιη¢єηт ωιℓℓ вυу ѕσмє тσ єαт ωιтн ριтαѕ. тнє ѕαℓту тαѕтє ιѕ ρℓєαѕαηт.”

Reito's statement drew the attention of both Vincent and the dragon who dwelled in his mind. "It... might be a good idea to leave, at least for a while. We have no way of knowing whether the Hunters were actually tracking us, or if they had just run into me."

The sun dragon paused to think, and then continued, "we can't just leave immediately, though. Both Ennie and I have jobs, which we will need to arrange time off from, unless we want the police searching for us. I also have supplies at home I can get together to take with us, as well as a second vehicle." In dad-like fashion, Vincent began to think of everything they would need to leave and journey safely as he trailed off.

'Wow,' Astley whistled as Rizzio took control over his vessel. 'That's some straight up Jennifer's Body stuff there. I didn't even know we could DO that! I could have saved myself so MUCH trouble I could have-' he gasped, a sound of part mortification, part realization. 'I have could have NOT eaten the Fillet O' Fish...'

"Solgaleo," Ennie ignored yet another breakdown from her other side and answered helpfully before creasing her face into a semi-concerned frown. "And...you're seriously telling me you aren't into Pokemon?" She pulled her phone out of her jacket and booted up PokemonGo. "PokemonGo? Have you heard of that game?"

'HelLOOO!' Astley yelled at such a high octave it nearly made her flinch. 'You're showing him Pokemon?? Are we-are we just gonna-gonna ignore the fact that Vincent honestly said he shoots LASERS?!'

"See it's on your phone, like an app," Ennie explained patiently as she scooted closer to the bed, once again ignoring the voice in her mind as he lost his collective everything. "And it's kind of a Augmented Reality game where you can 'find' Pokemon in our world. Like see? There's a Meowth right here. ...No I don't mean you, Misty."

'WE shoot Aisle 3 from Michael's at bad folks and THIS GUY over here is downright firing LASERS?'

"And then you can just tap the Pokemon, and it goes to this screen and you can catch it," Ennie passed her phone over to Vincent to let him try to catch the Meowth. "You can collect whatever Pokemon you like, and battle gyms and other trainers and even trade Pokemon!"

'I didn't know that was an OPTION! I didn't know that was a THING! If someone had said 'Hey, Astley! Do you wanna shoot Hardcore Heavy Metal Lasers at people like you're reliving your 80's hair metal dream, or do you want to be the World's Deadliest Cross Stitch Fanatic', guess what I would have chosen. GUESS!'

"Yeah, just like that!" Ennie grinned as Vincent caught the Meowth before quickly raising a hand to her temple to ward off an incoming headache. 'Can you please calm down?' she thought. 'You're giving me a migraine.'

'DON'T tell me to calm down, I'm having a crisis!'

'You're always having a crisis! We watched an albatross on Planet Earth today and you had a crisis then!'

'Did you SEE its WINGS? I was almost OUTWINGED by an oversized chicken! How is that NOT a crisis!'

'Would you just CHILL OUT? WHY would we need lasers?? We're a nature dragon? Why would we even WANT to light stuff on fire?? Besides we're...stealthy. Yeah. Like Dragon Black Ops. And you need to get this wing thing under control. I can't have you yelling profanities every time I drive by an airport.'

'...Yes ma'am.'

'Good.' Vincent had returned his phone and was downloading PokemonGo on his own, looking rather excited by the whole thing. "What about you, Reito? You a Pokemon-er? We could meet up and do some hunting of our own one of these days!"

'OH! I talked to Helios!'

'You what?' Ennie's eye visibly twitched at that tidbit of news. 'How on God's green Earth did you talk to Vincent's dragon?'

'I kinda screamed at him? At first? Yelled? I made myself big and loud. But don't worry! I totally didn't made a fool out of me-us. I was cool and calm and collected and we had a big, deep, brotherly heart to heart. It was great!'

'That's nice! What did you learn?'

There was a sudden silence from her other half, as if Astley were about to answer but quickly realized he had very little to say. 'Uh...He... He likes hummus.'

'...He likes hummus?'

'Yep.'

'...Your powers of investigation sure do astound me.'

Tucker sighed as his mind started wandering off to places of his memory that he wished would be forgotten. His mind had gone to the first time he went hunting with his dad.

"Keep your posture strait, chin up, sholders back" said his father in a booming tone. Eleven-year-old Tucker rolled his eyes and did as his father had told him. It was early spring and the apple blossoms were in bloom. Tucker had always loved how beautiful the flowers were in the spring time. He would make large bundles of them for his mother. Tucker's mother had also taught him how to make flower crowns, at first Tucker thought this was stupid, but his mother always said it would attract all of the cute guys. Tucker would get really flustered and embarrassed when she said that. He now misses those times. Tucker's father noticed his mind wandering off, "HEY! Snap out of it!" His father boomed, his voice seeming to shake the earth "you need to focus or you're going to get yourself killed!" Tucker snapped to attention "s-sorry sir" he stuttered "I'll pay attention now". His father then started to ramble on about the importance of the hunt. Tucker, obviously not paying any attention to his father, started to look around at the beautiful scenery. There were trees as far as the eye could see, and there was a huge mountain rane to the north. The sound of the stream that was five feed away from where he was standing, seemed to drown out the noise of his rambling father. It was so peaceful here, so beautiful, so......free.

Tucker was snapped back to reality when he realized something was missing. His arrow bag, where was it? Tucker looked around frantically, searching for his missing bag. The kittens, disturbed by his frantic movements, quickly woke up and started to meow loudly. Tucker was too preoccupied to notice. His sister had made him that bag, it was the only thing left of her that he could hold on to. After ten minutes of frantic searching, Tucker collapsed on the bus stop, tears welling up in his eyes. This was turning out to be one hell of a night. Why does every good thing that happens to him be followed by disaster?

The air in the alleyway felt as if it has been vacuumed out, leaving Merce to only gape as the stranger. The knife was beginning to feel heavy in her untrained hand, and the weight of 'creature' hung heavily between them. Sure, Amphora seemed to think he was a Hunter and he had the dragon killing blade, but Merce knew coincidence was a thing as well. But the hear 'creature' on top of it all was condemnatory. Flushing as she took the chance to glance down as the knife, Merce also noted that the sheath was still in place as well. 'Just kill me now,' She thought as bit hysterically, outwardly grimacing.
"Please not literally."
'How did we not notice that the stupid knife was covered in the first place! We'd make for the worlds worse criminals...'
"Keep your day job."
Knowing that her face was red enough to probably be visible even in the low light of the alley, Merce fumbled with the blade as she tried figuring out what to do with it. Logically, she knew that the man was probably humoring her by not taking it back as if she was a child with candy. Which also made her curious as to why he was being so.. placid. Amphora seemed to think as a Hunter he'd just kill her as soon as possible and be done with it and her. Instead, he was offering to feed them? Feeling a bit patronized on top of mortified, Merce finally clipped the sheath to a belt loop on her jeans and pulled her jacket down to cover it. Making a 'there' gesture towards the stranger, Merce shuffled towards the entrance of the alley. "I'm not the type to turn down free food if you're offering," She added. And you're one to talk about civilized! Who follows someone into a deserted alley without nefarious intentions?"

As the lady goes from mortified to embarrassed, before finally snapping his knife to her belt and hiding it, Anthony mentally facepalms, while blinking rapidly, realising she doesn’t realise his intentions aren’t to attack her at all. After her pointing for him to move, which he followed, her acceptance of the food was a step in a positive direction. Until he hears her final stinging words.

“You're one to talk about civilized! Who follows someone into a deserted alley without nefarious intentions?"

He inhales fully for a second at that, before exhaling and coughing, the taste of bile still in his mouth. He had to keep somewhat calm though. His words, however, had a biting edge to them. “Like I said Ma’am, I only want to talk to you, in a calm manner, if you are what I think you are. And I wasn’t the one who attacked me. And then stole something to protect myself from muggers, which, I might add, I didn’t pull out when I followed you down here.” He finishes his tirade by looking out of the alley, and looking left and right up and down the road with a couple of flicks of the eye, before looking back at her, and nodding his head in a motion that says ‘shall we move’ with an ex
pression that says the same...

"Hmm, odd when I go somewhere I just fly away. I don't bother with all that work mumbo jumbo. Why does that stuff matter anyway?"
"Because not everyone has a job like you! They can't just pick and choose what request to take on and fly their on a whim. They have normal lives and probably homes as well."
"But I have a normal life?"
"No, no you don't. Most people find stable jobs and settle down! These dragons probably did just that."
"Why do most people do that?"
"Some people like having homes!"
"Whats so good about having a home? Stuck in one place all that time, who'd want that?"
"Normal people! Which you are clearly not!"
"I am totally a normal person, well aside from the dragon thing. I guess that would make me a normal dragon?"
"Nothing about you is normal!"
"No way, thats not true. I'm normal right?" The assassin asked glancing at the other two. "Let your people know there is no need for them to answer that, just distract him with cheese or something and he will completely forget about it..." This the dragon directed at the other dragons instead of his vessel. He sounded a bit exasperated and thoroughly exhausted by his vessels eccentric nature.  "We should probably not stick around here if hunters are around. If they know they shot a dragon they may start checking out hospitals." The dragon added after a moment before returning his attention back to his vessel. Carefully seizing control and backing him toward the door. "Tell them we are going now."
"I don't wanna go! I just found dragon friends!"
"For the Last time they are not your friends!"
"Yes they are!"
"We need to find a place to rest for the night and get out of this town first thing in the morning!"
The dragon stated as he turned away and started forcing Reito to walk toward the door. The assassin protested and pouted but didn't fight the dragon.  "Can we at least arrange to meet again? They said they where going some place to have fun! I wanna go too!"
"They are not going to have fun, they are laying low!"
"That sounds like fun!"
"You know exactly what that means! We do that all the time when we work for dangerous people! Remember when they get mad when others hire us to take care of their problems?"
"Yes, I don't see what that has to do with anything?"
"You know how we fly far away and find a quiet place to rest?'
"Yes, thats awfully boring."
"That is laying low."
"But that sounds fun!"
"...."

"Also whats a pokey mon? Is it something you eat? Rizzio, have you ever heard of such a thing?"
"No, I don't pay attention to silly human games."
"So you know what it is then?"
"No!"
"But you said it was a game?"
"I'm just guessing!"
"Really?
"Yes, quit trying to distract me, we're leaving! If the other people want you to come along, I am sure their dragons can tell me!"
"But you don't want to hang out with them so you won't tell me if they tell you!"
"Yes, yes I will okay? Can we go now?"
"Alright..."
"Hey guys, I hear there's a really nice cafe near the hospital I hear it has good cakes. Lets go there since Rizzio doesn't want to stay at this hospital!"
"WHAT??? No!"

Vincent was stirred from his planning by Ennie’s question. “I have heard of it, yes. I remember many of my students playing the game a few years ago.” In truth, he had been tempted to give it a try but had never gotten around to it. He scooched a bit to the side to allow his friend some room to sit beside him, Misty re-situating herself over his legs when he settled.

Misty looked up at Ennie when she mentioned her, letting out a quiet chirp and staring with unblinking rounded pupils. Her ears swiveled, as though she could hear the conversation between human and dragon, but of course, she couldn’t.

The sun dragon's attention was trained on the phone, listening intently as Ennie explained the game. It seemed simple, but fun. He missed the meowth a couple of times before the pokeball made contact, rolling around a few times before giving a message that indicated the pokemon had been caught. Deciding that he very much liked this game, and would like to download it. Handing the phone back to his friend, he picked up his own and got the game himself.

In the background, Reito continued to argue to himself in a fashion that induced at least a little anxiety. How had no one picked up on the fact that he was a dragon? Perhaps he was just… detached from society? The man was somewhat of an enigma, and his unpredictability set Vincent on-edge.

A knock on the door got the attention of the room, and the doctor who had taken care of Vincent stepped in, clipboard in hand. “Hello?” The dark-haired man noticed the company (and copious amounts of McDonald’s) in the room, recognizing the rainforest dragon. “Oh, Ennie. It’s good to see you.” He then eyed Reito curiously, wondering if he had accidentally prevented the man from leaving.

“Police were called at 7:30 pm tonight to this suburban forested area after two gunshots were fired somewhere within.” The statement drew the doctor's attention towards the small TV mounted from the ceiling, which had been quietly playing some show. Apparently, it was late enough for the second news hour.

A tall, dark-skinned reporter gestured to the exact forest Vincent, Ennie and Reito had fled from. “The possible victim has not been found, but the authorities have stated that they have found the shooter. He is alive and has been taken into custody. They will not give more details at this time.”

Vincent wore an ex
pression of mild horror as he kept his attention focused on his phone, hoping the doctor wouldn't put the pieces together and figure out that he had been the aforementioned missing victim. The sun dragon made the mistake of looking up from his phone at the exact same time the doctor eyed him curiously, accidentally revealing his totally-not-suspicious ‘oh no’ face. The doctor, to his credit, simply cleared his throat and went back to business.
Oh, thank god.

“I uh, just wanted to let you know that the preion you need has been faxed to the pharmacy in the lobby,” the doctor said, only slightly awkwardly.

“Oh, thank you,” Vincent gave him a grateful smile, noticing the ache in his shoulder steadily returning.

The doctor smiled and nodded, reassuring Vincent that he would heal quickly, and then took his leave. If anyone accused the sun dragon of hoping he would meet the man outside of the hospital sometime, he would deny it.

“Reito,” the blonde-haired man addressed their still-standing companion once the door had been closed, “of course you’re welcome to come with us. Once we have everything in order, we can leave the city for a while until it is safe to return. It will likely take a few days to prepare.”

Ennie watched the exchange between the doctor and Vincent, eyes moving back and forth between them like a spectator at a Ping Pong tournament as the two talked. 'Ohhhh Vinny,' Astley chuckled. 'Can you be anymore obvious, my man! Also I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I am living for nervous Vince. You'd think this guy was never involved in a shooting before!'

'It's not polite to speculate!' Ennie shot back. 'And our experiences aren't mutual to everyone else and we shouldn't assume they are.'

'Well I can tell you he's probably definitely never been mauled by a Smilodon. Look at that,' he hissed quietly at the cat sitting in Vincent's lap. 'I'll bet he even let's it into his home.'

'Yeah he...probably does.'

'...That's so brave, honestly.'

Their attention returned to Rizzio who began his odd soliloquies almost as soon as the doctor beat a hasty retreat. The conversations, though jarring at first, had become almost commonplace to Ennie in the short time she'd known the dragon, and she found them almost cute in a lost puppy sort of way.

'This guy's lucky he's still kicking, what with his not so internal monologue with Rizzio', Astley mused as he and Ennie observed the enigmatic dragon. 'But it is endearing, you know? In a 'He's OUR dipstick' sort of way.'

Ennie nodded, partly at Astley's comment, partly at the conversation Reito was having aloud with Rizzio. "I'm honestly not sure about picking up sticks and skipping town. Like, are these Hunters really worth such a response? Like I've said, I probably came across them a couple times and didn't even know it. And, I mean, I have a job! That I really like! And...and my plants..." She shrugged nonchalantly as she chewed a french fry. "By all means, keep me updated if you two DO decide to get the heck outta Dodge but know that I'm probably gonna stick around." Vincent seemed...less than impressed with her and Astley was once again uncharacteristically silent. "Sorry, Vinny," she said. "But I lasted this long, and now I know to stay careful."

'Still,' Astley added. 'It wouldn't hurt to you know, be ready. Just in case. You were feeling pretty trepidatious earlier and that was smart. Don't get dumb just because you got lucky. You get confident, you get careless. We know this.'

'Yeah, yeah,' she mentally waved off the comment. 'I can learn from my mistakes just fine on my own thank you very much.'

'Then don't let this become a mistake.'

Her mood went rather sour at the unwanted criticism and Ennie decided it was time for bed. It was getting pretty late, and she did have responsibilities outside of being in Team Dragon after all. "I'm not sure I'm up for a Cafe run, if I start drinking coffee now I'll be up all night. Besides, I think it's past Phil's watering time and I don't need him getting antsy." She mock rolled her eyes as she gathered her purse, the leftovers of her share of McDonalds, and discarded the trash. "You know how philodendrons can be, so twitchy." She cast a glance back at her two cohorts and seemed satisfied that Reito could at least get himself to wherever he was crashing for the night. Vincent, on the other hand, was definitely not flying any time soon. "Need a lift, Vince? Be happy to take you home, especially now that you're not leaking everywhere!"

Tucker had been now asking all of the people around the bus stop if they had seen his bag. He didn't specify what type of bag because he didn't want to sound like a lunatic who carried a bag of arrows wherever he went. Defeated, Tucker slumped down onto the bus stop bench. He looked up and into the starry night sky, his ice blue eyes clouded with tears. His father had always said that he was a weak crybaby, but his mom always argued that Tucker had more feelings then her husband has ever had. Tucker had always loved when his mother stood up to his father. She was the bravest person Tucker has ever met. Tucker took a deep breath and sighed, letting his mind wander off, thinking of how his father would torture him when he got home. Maybe he would make Tucker feed the pet tortoise his father kept in his room. Nah, his father would think of something way worse than that.

Tucker, not knowing what to do anymore, pulled out a small pan flute from his pocket and started to play. His mother had taught him to play the pan flute, she said that her mother had taught her and that her mother's mother had done the same. Tucker only knew a select few of songs but over all he was pretty good at playing it. As Tucker was playing, a man walked by and tossed him a dime. At first, Tucker was confused, but then the idea hit him like a club to the head. Tucker had gone full blown musisian. He had started to play his flute like he had never done before. A small crowd was now gathered around Tucker, listening to his music and giving him tips as he played. It was a wonder how nobody in the crowd found it strange that a full grown man was playing the pan flute in the dead of night with two kittens in his jacket. But it didn't matter what other people thought, as long as they gave him tips he could save up for a bus ticket home, and maybe just maybe his father won't give him the "why was a man like you born into this family?" look.

Merce ::
The stranger's words were bitten out, a clear indication that he was irritated. 'Welcome to the party, figaflor*.' She thought uncharitably, lips pursing. Amphora rumbled an agreement, though Merce knew that the dragon was one giant ball of scaly sulk; even if she could not physically see her. Clearly Amphora was not pleased by the fact Merce was willing to sit down and actually talk to a Hunter. However, now that the adrenaline had passed and embarrassment had softened her a bit, Merce could understand, sorta, where the man was coming from. Even if he wasn't seeing her side of it either. 'Clearly a male.' She inwardly mused to Amphora, who chuffed.
"I assure you, most male traits supervene through species."
"Lovely. Makes me never want to meet a male dragon."
"If only you'd be so lucky."
Merce knew Amphora wasn't being completely serious, but both wanted to break the tension in the air between them. Neither liked being on edge with the other and preferred peace, both between themselves as well as in the world around them. Having said peace so suddenly broken had left them off kilter and it was showing. Mouth twitching in the beginnings of a smile, Merce quickly rearranged her face to try and appear as if she hadn't just had a conversation with herself.  "Yeah yeah, I'm coming." Grumbling as she followed at a safe distance to the front of the alley, Merce watched as he scanned both ways before inching closer. "How about I apologize for hitting you, because I actually do feel a bit bad about that even if you partially deserved it, and we table any other talk until you show me where the food is?" She asked wearily, flicking her gaze from the mans face to his hands to make sure he didn't have anything in them that could hurt her, then back. "Because it sounds like you think you know something about me."
"He knows..."
'Benefit of the doubt. Be nice.'

As the Lady further agrees to food, Anthony gives a quick smile at the apology, but her next words cause him to look straight at her.

“It sounds like you think you know something about me."

After a moment of pure serious thinking, Anthony lets out a single laughing noise, which, as he does it, becomes a coughing fit, as he tastes bile once more.

“I... kaff kaff hu… kaff kaff ...You… dr… kaff kaff…”

After a few minutes, Anthony stops coughing, and spits straight down, while trying not to spit on the Lady. After, he takes in a few slow breaths and then nods to agree with her.

“Before we go in the cafe, to eat… Yes, I know you are a Dragon, unless my hunch is wrong. I am something called a Hunter. Don’t worry, I am only a Chronicler, I haven’t killed any of you, and I don’t intend to start today. And the blade you took off me… Is a Family Heirloom. I say all of this now so we don’t need to say it in front of people who might not understand?”

Reito was both elated and saddened by his two new friends words, he was very exited at the prospect of going on vacation with two other dragon though oddly Rizzio kept insisting it wasn't one. At the same time however he was sad that they where not going to join him at the cafe and he would have to part ways for now. He did want to stick around longer but Rizzio was getting really, really impatient and he supposed he had pestered his dragon enough for one day.
"Aww, well I'll see you guys soon then. I think Rizzio must need a nap or something, he is really grumpy!"
Of course his chosen words only served to infuriate the dragon. "Grumpy?! Nap?! Really? Do I seem like a child to you?!"
"Oh, here is my phone number, call me whenever you feel like it!" Reito added cheerfully ignoring his dragons comment as he pulled a pen and paper from his pocket and jotted down the number and practically shoved it in both dragons hands. "Really? Stop giving information out so easily." Rizzio muttered. "Remember what happened last time?"
"Yeah, but these guys aren't bad guys."
"You can't tell that for sure!"
"Yes I can!"
"No! We have to be careful, we can't trust everyone!"
"But I want to trust someone and they are dragons, so therefore they are most definitely the most trustworthy!"
"Being dragons doesn't mean anything!"
"It totally does, it means everything!"
"No it doesn't, we don't know them. They are not friends! They don't need to know our phone number or be calling us."
"We absolutely know them and they are friends and friends call eachother because thats what friends do!"
"How would you know? You don't have any!"
"I do now!"
"You don't need them."
"Everyone needs friends, even me and you!"
"Ugh, lets just get out off here."
"Sure, off to the cafe."
"Can't we just find a place to sleep?"
"Cafe first."
"Fine..."
"Good bye new friends!" Reito said cheerfully as he finished his latest little argument with Rizzio and headed out the door, cheerfully whistling out of tune to a random song he couldn't remember most of the lyrics too. Thus he just made up most of what he was whistling too, adding random bits here and there.
Rizzio could only take the whistling for so long before snapping at Reito to be quiet but the assassin ignored him much to the dragons displeasure. Finally as they where getting close to the cafe the dragon finally managed to distract him with a question. "We have a bit of money after our last job, can we find a nice place to rest? Maybe something with a sauna?"
"Huh, I don't think the places we go have such things?"
"Thats because you always choose the cheapest, most basic motels!"
"Whats wrong with that?"
"They're gross!"
"Are not."
"Yes they are! I can smell roaches and rats in those places!"
"Whats wrong with them?"
"They're gross!"
"How so?"
"Really? Do you honestly think they are nice company?"
"Sure, why not? They deserve company too."
"No they don't! What would you do if you saw one? Pick it up and give it a hug?"
"Sure, if they want one but I think a hug might squish a roach though."
"You....you really are a special one are you?"
"I am indeed!"
The two barely paid attention to what they where doing, pausing as they came across a random street musician continuing their argument of rats and roaches despite the way the crowd started edging away from them, shooting weary looks at the apparent madman that suddenly appeared.
