Vin sat down beside Rain and laid back, stretching his arms. His back popped and he let out a content sigh. "You have obviously never gotten between me and my mother before. She flips out when her 'little Vinny' is in danger." He paused. He'd rather not talk about Rain hurting someone he was related to. "I remember once when I was about five, I opened the door to some salesman. I don't remember what he said, but I got upset and started crying. All of a sudden my mother was in front of me wielding a knife at the guy." Vin started to laugh. "She had been in the kitchen and somehow had heard me. I've never seen someone run so fast before. The guy ended up dropping all of the papers he was holding while he ran to his car."
Vin pointed up at the ceiling. "Look. It's an owl. Do you see it?"

Rain laughed. Vin's mother sounded like someone he could get along with. She actually acted like a real mother was supposed to act. Staring at the ceiling for several moments before deciding Vin must have been high, Rain shook his head and sounded slightly puzzled.
''No, I don't see anything. Pity, I quite like owls. Hawks are nicer, though; and falcons. Falcons rock.'' He smiled contentedly to himself, wishing his house was always like this. Quiet, peaceful. Without his parents. And, most importantly, with Vin there.

"You forgot about about magpies and vultures. They're pretty cool, too." Even if Vin spent most of his free time learning about trees and other plants, he stilled liked birds. He was close to birds when he was checking on the newly planted saplings and wandering around in the forest. He thought that they were simply amazing creatures.

''Mm, I suppose so. I don't really like vultures, though; opportunistic filth. Nothing but scavengers. Now falcons, they'rereal predators.'' He grinned quite broadly, certain he had described vultures quite perfectly. He n ever really liked vultures, be they actual vultures or human incarnates. He much preferred people who fought for what they had.

Vin smiled. "I like vultures. I don't know why, but do I really need a reason?" Vin flipped himself around so he was now on his stomach. Reaching out, he fiddled with the carpet. He paused and tilted his head to the side. "Is it still raining? I can't tell."

Rain shrugged. No, now that he thought about it, Vin didn't need a reason. After all, he put up with all his torments, and there was no reason for that. ''Hm? Oh, yeah. It's still raining. Lightly, but still.'' Rain had this knack for being able to hear even the lightest rainfall on his windows; it was usually when he heard it that he went outside.

Vin turned his head to look at Rain. He wondered how the other could always tell if it was raining. It was... cute, he supposed. "So what are we doing today? Are we just going to lay here, or are we going to actually get up sooner or later?"

Rain sighed over-dramatically, pushing himself to his feet. ''Well, much as I'd love to lie down with you all day, I suppose you're right.'' His head was still groggy, as though he'd had too much to drink or something, but he chose to ignore that and walk into the kitchen. Vin would probably be hungry.
Rubbing his arms in an attempt to warm them slightly, Rain realized he was still getting cold chills. So this was what being sick was like. He hadn't been sick in as long as he could remember. ''Hey, you want something to eat?'' No point wondering when the cold feeling would go away. It wouldn't make it any better thinking about it

"It depends." Vin mumbled, then repeated louder. "What exactly are you planning on making?" He went back to playing with the carpet. His stomach grumbled. Vin wondered what it would be saying if it could talk. Probably something along the lines of 'shuddup and get me food'. "You know what?" Vin suddenly asked. "I really don't care what you're making. Do you want help cooking?" He asked, even though he knew what the answer was. Rain was aware of why Vin only made simple dishes for himself.

Rain chuckled to himself. Vin was always so cautious of eating anything he made. Not surprising, given his track record of feeding him one thing and claiming it was something else. ''Nah, I'm good. And it's going to be pizza.'' With that, he chose to hurry up and get started, setting out all the ingredients he would use before mixing it all together in a big bowl.
By the time he had the dough spread out and ready for toppings, then the oven, there was flour everywhere, particularly in his hair. Ah well. Shoving it in the oven, he walked back into the living room and waited for it to finish cooking. Not that he set a timer or anything, he could usually just tell when something was finished.

Vin had closed his eyes to listen to Rain preparing things to magically make the pizza. When Rain came back into the room, Vin sat up and ran his hand through his hair. It was knotted and probably looked like a mess, but Vin didn't feel any dirt in it like he usually did.
Vin looked at Rain and started to smirk. His make-up was running, something which Vin had seen only once or twice, and his clown hair was covered in some kind of white cooking powder. (Vin probably should have known what it was, but whatever.) Vin decided not to commit on his friend's appearance; Rain would notice sooner or later.

Rain noticed Vin smirking, looking at him, and tried to figure out why. Glancing in the mirror that was on the wall, he glared at his reflection. He looked like an idiot. How nice. Deciding the food would be fine if he left it another little while, he headed into the bathroom without saying a word, and began washing the mess off his face.
Without any makeup on at all, he actually looked considerably younger than he was, perhaps only fifteen. ''Great...'' He muttered some colourful language to himself, and probably would have continued had he not smelled something burning. Swearing again- quite loudly this time- he moved quickly into the kitchen, ignoring the fire alarms. Opening the window wide, he opened the oven and got a cloud of smoke in his face.
Coughing, he proceeded to remove the - currently on fire- pizza from the oven and hit it with a tea towel, leaving it on the floor and wondering how everything could go wrong at once. The fire alarms eventually went off on their own, only after giving him a headache again, and the pizza onthe floor- which had managed to burn his fingers- now looked more like a rock than anything else.

Vin slowly stepped into the kitchen. He had never seen Rain ever burn something before. He sort of wanted to start laughing, but he was slightly worried about what Rain would do if he did. It wasn't like he was he expected to get hit, but his friend was very unpredictable.
Vin started moving closer to Rain, making no sudden movements. He knelt down beside his friend and poked him in the arm. "You alright?"

Rain sighed heavily. He wanted so much to say that no, no he was not alright. Even if you took away the fact that nothing was going right today, things were still most definitely not alright. Rain was a highly-strung individual for a reason, despite acting as though he hadn't a care in the world. He was, after all, a very good actor. ''Yes. I'm fine.'' His hand hurt. He was cold and tired. His sister had been refusing to take in visitors recently; apparently she was sick, and this time not just in the head. ''I think the food's a little burnt.'' He spoke calmly and without emotion, as was his trademark when trying to shut the world out.

Vin's lips tightened into a thin line. Rain sure didn't look 'fine' to him. His blank face brought the word 'rejection' to Vin's head. He shifted closer to Rain and wrapped his arm's around his shoulders. Vin pulled Rain so the other was leaning against him. Hesitantly, he ran through Rain's hair.
Vin didn't know how to reply to what Rain had said, so he decided to just not say anything all. Sometimes it was best to say nothing. Trees never replied, they always chose to stay quiet and listen.

Rain was surprised by Vin's reaction. Of all the things he had expected, this was most certainly not one of them. He always thought Vin hated hugs. Maybe he did, and was just doing this because Rain himself liked them. Whatever the reason, he was glad that Vin had done. He felt like a little kid, but for some reason it didn't bother him.
''... Thanks.'' He said no more, thinking it obvious as to what he was thanking Vin for. Instead he closed his eyes and listened to the other's heartbeat; Vin really did havea beautiful heartbeat, whether he agreed or not.

Vin smiled, but he doubted that Rain could see it through his eye-lids. That was okay though, it wasn't like he never smiled around Rain. He continued to pet his best friend's head silently. He was happy to feel Rain relaxing against him; Vin hated seeing, or feeling, Rain so tense. He was aware of Rain's problems, and suspected that they stressed him out.
After holding Rain for a few minutes, his legs started to cramp under him, and he had to reluctantly let got of the other to shift about. When he was comfortable, Vin opened his arms for Rain to hug him again.

Rain sat back, watching Vin shift about. It was certainly amusing, to say the very least. But, while he would have loved to continue hugging him, he also knew that his friend was likely hungry. And if he didn't get up and make him something now, it would be some time before he did. Not to mention the fact he was relying on him too much.
Sighing, Rain stood up and reached a hand down to help Vin up. ''C'mon. I highly doubt you've managed to no longer become hungry while sitting there. We'll do some toast or something.''

Vin dropped his arms before taking Rain's hand and standing. "You? Make toast? Unheard of." Vin laughed quietly. "Toast is fine." He was used to eating simple things, so he didn't mind. "Do you want me to help you make it? I know how to make toast." Vin felt proud to be able to tell Rain that he knew how to make some sort of food.
Suddenly realizing that he was still holding Rain's hand, he blushed and let it drop. Vin looked away and attempted to distract his mind of the thoughts that were running through his head. The counter tops sure were clean. They should probably move away the rock- I mean burnt pizza soon. The oven was still open.

Rain smiled. He may as well let Vin help him, after all, look how well things had gone when he hadn't. ''Yes, well... I think I may not be at my best today. Of course you can help, if you want.'' He also noticed Vin still had hold of his hand, but for once he commented on neither that nor the light blush on his friend's cheeks.
Taking bread from the pantry and sticking it into the toaster, he pulled down the handle-type things and waited for it to go 'bing'. His thoughts, however, were elsewhere. Thinking about how Vin's blush looked somehow... Well, adorable, for want of a better word. Thinking why he would be thinking things like that.
