Khalil glanced around the market place. Aside from himself, Zarah, and the blond pair, there were two others that had not fallen down after the music started. One was a girl leaning absentmindedly against the side of one of the stands. She didn't seem to really care much for what had just happened. The fact that almost everyone close by was unconscious didn't affect her in the slightest, one could think this was a perfectly normal occurrence from the look on her face.

The other though was a boy that was very upset by this. He ran from the edge of the city center to the pile of bodies that use to be an angry mob. Outside the circle he stopped again, glancing worriedly to the old man that the blond boy was trying lift up. Neither the blond nor the other boy seemed to know what to do with each other, so they just starred. When the blonde girl returned to the circle, her hands also full, the starring and silence merely continued.

While Khalil took in what was around them, Zarah hadn't taken her eyes of the girl with the flute. Music magic had always interested her. She would never trade her own skills for a chance to try it, but it was still fascinating. When the girl rejoined her partner, the gypsy finally turned back to her recent follower.

"We should speak with them," she informed Khalil.

"What?" he replied quickly, taken aback. "What ever for?"

"They have magic too, that's why they weren't affected by the music. They may know something about the illness that your master has."

The boy made a face as he mulled the thought over. He obviously wasn't use to getting help or asking for it from others. With a great sigh, and some mumbling under his breath, he picked up the bucket of water and made his way towards the three other magicians. Zarah happily skipped after him holding up the bottom of her purple dress so that she would not trip.

"What happened, my children?" she asked the strange pair as she skidded to a halt at the edge of the bodies. Khalil dropped his bucket with a large thunk, water splashing over the sides, before crossing his arms and trying to avoid looking at the others in the eye. The only help he needed was from a healer, not from some musician and her biggest fan.

Shabti glanced over his shoulder and watched as a girl and boy moved over near him. He hadn't noticed the two when he had ran back here. He recognized the girl as someone he had passed many times in the street. He had a feeling that she had magic, but he wasn't too sure. She seemed excited about something. The boy, on the other hand, looked like he wanted nothing to do with the current situation. Not that Shabti blamed the boy, it looked like the boy had pretty much been dragged over here by the girl.

The two seemed friendly, so Shabti turned his attention to the girl who had her arms full with books, a basket, and a case of some sort. She seemed familiar in some way. He figured that she was the one who had made the magic in the air twirl. Shabti glanced at the teen holding Roe. He wondered if he should go and help hold the old man, or if the teen had it all under control. He felt that helping wouldn't exactly work out too well since Roe was out cold and it would be awkward for two people to hold one semi-dead body.

It suddenly occurred to Shabti that the boy carrying Roe and the girl whose arms were full might be the two that the shadow had told him about. If that was the case, then maybe he should introduce himself to them. But what if they were bad people? No, the two wouldn't have saved Roe if they only had bad intentions, and they didn't look like they had their minds set on mass murder or pillaging. That didn't mean that Shabti was going to trust them, or the other girl and boy. He would wait for them to make the first move.

~~

The market place was crowded fast. Now there was one, two, five people near Kah who had been unaffected by the music magic. So that meant six magicians were at the same place at the same time, which wouldn't be such an unusual thing if it wasn't for the fact that they all noticed each other. Normally people with abilities ignored each other when in public unless they were related or it was some type of special occasion. Common people became nervous if they thought that magicians were gathering, which was never a good thing.

Kah took another bite of her apple. She wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and happened to look down at the fruit. There was something black and wiggling in a small hole that Kah hadn't noticed before. With a squeak, she dropped the apple and stomped on it a few times, the fruit becoming crushed under her shoe, before deciding that the worm was dead. Ugh. Some luck that was. Kah would never be able to eat another apple again without thinking about worms crawling through it. She shivered and wiped her hands on her pants, attempting to clear the image out of her mind.

Throwing a scowl at the no-longer apple, Kah sauntered away from it and towards her fellow magicians. From her point of view, they were all just standing around, waiting for something to happen, which was, in her opinion, quite useless and boring to watch. She decided to join in on the party and see what was going on. Who knows, maybe they would go on some insane adventure or at least do something interesting. Something obviously brought them all here, and she wasn't about to ignore fate.

[[Sorry it's shorter than my previous ones :( ]]

Akakios was waiting for Elpis's plan to proceed, and the three of them stood there silent for several seconds before the two who stood further up the street started to come join their small group. It wasn't long until the other girl - the thief - came to join the party. Akakios eyed each and everyone of them and then rested his eyes on his sister. From the looks of things, she had either forgot about her plan or had not cared to further it. Anticipation was building up in Akakios to the point where he could no longer stay silent.

"Shabti, Zarah, Kah, Khalil," He looked at all of them as he spoke their names. He had connected the dots and wasn't going to let another minute pass by just standing in this cloud of confusion. "I am Akakios and this is my sister Elpis." He gestured towards his wide-eyed little sister, "If you come with us we will explain everything, this diseases and all that we can." He inclined his head towards an alley way. Sure, it may be sketchy but if they wanted answers they would have to follow them to their house. This was a long way to their house but it surely beat being seen by civilians while he carried a limp body over his shoulders. Not that Akakios particularly cared, but it would cause them trouble.

Akakios started to walk, the old man weighing heavy on his shoulders. He trusted his sister to keep the group together and to make sure that everyone followed. Sorry for not explaining Elpis. He said in his head. He knew she must be bewildered and excited about all of this, and the fact that he couldn't explain anything at the moment made him somewhat sorrowful. But there was no time for such emotions, he had to focus all his energy to carry this old man left and right into different alley's until they reached their little straw house.

~~~
Excitement coursed through her veins as Elpis noticed newcomers, though they were both quite strange. One of them called everyone "children" even though she was around the same age as Elpis, and the other one looked like he could die of boredom. It was so interesting, the contradictory aurora they gave off that it was some what thrilling. (Though Elpis failed to notice that is exactly how her and her brother were, complete opposites). Sheer glee shone on her face as she looked eagerly to each on of the newcomers. Something moved in the corner of her eyes and she noticed yet another person had joined the group. If Elpis thought she was overwhelmed now, bewilderment would soon over come her.
Her brother spoke up and it wasn't until he had spoken each of the names that she realized that those were the names that Teacher had given them. It was unlike Elpis to ever doubt her brother's conclusions and his ideas, so she didn't, but joy surged the excitement along in her veins. She didn't think that finding the people on the list was going to be so easy, and she was very confident that their adventure was going to start really soon. Since Elpis couldn't jump up and down with joy (seeing as her arms are literally packed) she squealed a tad bit before going back to her serious nature she gets around her brother.
Elpis didn't want to cause more trouble for her brother who was doing so much for her already and had a lot on his mind, so she watched her behavior. When Akakios beckoned for everyone to hither and follow them to their house, Elpis started to fret a tad, for her brothers demands weren't always the pleasantest sounding. Her brother had already started to walk and she knew he wasn't going to wait for everyone. Elpis felt hesitation in the air and added a few more words to what he said, "Yes, I am Elpis, and it would be in all of your best interest to come with us, please, and help." Slowly she started to back away from the group and follow her brother, "It is too long of a story to explain but Teacher - I mean Iros, our master - gave us a list of names and seeing as my brother thinks you are them, then you must be and you must help. We will tell you everything we know about what Teacher had told us just this morning, and maybe we can even get some knowledge from that poor sickly man." She   inclined her head towards her brother and then turned to catch up with him.
[[Sorry for the late post and short reply...]]
Follow some guy she just met into a dark, secluded, alley way? Now that didn't sound dangerous at all. But then again, the possible siblings didn't seem too bad, and it wasn't like Kah had anything else to do. Something appeared to be going on, and there was no way Kah would pass up the opportunity to be involved in something big. It looked like her best option was to follow them and figure out what was going on.
"Kah," said Kah, introducing herself to Elpis and anyone else who was listening. She glanced over at the others before quickly making her way towards Akakios, who was carrying the limp body of an elderly. What exactly the teen was going to do with the old man, Kah did not know. Maybe this was some kind of kidnapping? No, there was no point of stealing old people; they were way too fragile to transport over long distances. Maybe the man got in trouble with the mob, and now they had to protect him? Nah, though they were all of magic blood, she doubted the group would be able to protect a barrel of fish from an eagle.
Catching up with Akakios, Kah decided that the old guy was actually a spy from some foreign land, and he was here to warn people that a horrifying beast had been recently angered and is now on its way to destroy the city, and only she and the other teens could stop it. Kah quite liked that idea; she had always wanted to become im[injection]portant.
~~~

Shabti watched as Kah followed the teen carrying Roe without a single look of suspicion. If she hadn't been so willing to follow, then maybe he would have turned tail and fled, leaving them and attempting never to think of it again. But the girl had fearlessly trudged forward, and Shabti couldn't help but feel that he couldn't just abandon them. Trying to keep pace with the Elpis, he offered her a hand and a weary smile. "I'm Shabti. It's nice to meet you." He said politely.

"I know you said that you'll explain everything later, but does this have something to do with the sickness going around?" Shabti dearly hopped that the answer he got was no.

((Okay I'm back! So sorry again! I just barely finished my project but it's all turned in so life is good again.))

Khalil's interest was peaked at once when the blond boy, Akakios, said that they would explain to them what he and his sister knew about the illness that was spreading. The gypsy girl had been right, they could help them. The young man did his best to try and hide his interest, it wasn't normal for him to lay out all his cards at one time. He pulled his crossed arms closer to his chest while the boy and his sister ushered the group to follow them into the alleyway.

Zarah heard the sibling's tale and started to walk after the young girl at once. Light hair was very rare in this part of the country and Zarah thought it one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen. How can two with such outer beauty be evil on the inside?

She had been trailing after the group for only a few moments before she noticed that Khalil was not following after the others. She made a quick U-turn and tugged on one of his arms.

"What is wrong with you?" she asked slightly annoyed. "Do you not want your master healed, child?"

"Of course I do," Khalil responded, jerking his arm out of Zarah's grasp. "But it is not in my nature to look for help from strangers."

"Am I not a stranger?"

"You are a healer."

Zarah rolled her eyes. "Fine," she told him. "If you do not wish to help, you can stay here." She turned and walked away with a huff.

Khalil waited till the all the forms of the members of the group had disappeared around the corner before he began after them. He did not want them to feel he was too eager to help their cause before he completely understood what was going on.

[[It has been a while. Lets see if I can get into character correctly...]]

The presence of the thief next to him was barely noticeable, though Akakios instantly noticed that she was keeping pace with him. Secretly, he gave her props for keeping pace and also for keeping her curiosity inside her head. Although, he could feel her curious eyes on him. It was a feeling that he felt often, though the curious eyes that usually seem to be on him have always been from his sister, and by now Akakios is used to it. However, now it was a different pair of light eyes on him. The feeling was strange and he couldn't shake it, so instead, to try to rid the feeling, he brought his mind to millions of other problems that were stuck in his head.

What were they to do once they have gotten to the hut? What were they to do when the sickly awoke? What were they supposed to do once they have told their story? Would the other teens leave? These questions, and many more, swarm in his head as he turned each corner, always peaking behind him every now and then to cheek on his sister. She seemed engaged in a conversation were she did all of the talking. Akakios also noticed that the person she was talking to helped carry her baggage. He was grateful to him for helping his sister.

As Akakios was walking, he shifted the sickly old man on his shoulder so his grip would be better. In doing so, the sickly old man started to groan with consciousness. Akakios sighed and walked a tad bit faster, as much as this dead weight would allow. He new that soon, everything was about to be unraveled and that the fate of the world would be up to them. The stress that weighed on his shoulders was immense. He looked down at the road beneath his feet and shook his sandy blond hair, subtly showing his frustration. He didn't know how dedicated all of these strangers were, but still, Akakios was willing to take on the whole mission himself if that would save his sister. He looked up and over to the old man. The sickly elder was still unconscious. He turned his head slightly to look at the others, they still followed. The girl, Kah, still kept pace. Soon they would all be in his and his sisters home strategizing and just that notion made him uneasy.

~~~
Even in Elpis's attempt to run up to her brother failed, for her arm full of their belongings protested. They were unsecured in her arms and if she were to catch up with her brother, her flute or their books might fall. Reluctantly she gave up and walked, or more like staggered, multiple paces behind them. She wanted to run up to her brother and absorb his knowledge, but she couldn't and she was glad she didn't, for another girl, Kah was her name, ran to catch up with Akakios. This made Elpis smile brighter than ever before. She hoped that her dear brother would make conversation and befriend this girl. From the little she saw, it looked as if they weren't communicating. Elpis always likes to think on the bright side, though. To her, there is still hope.
Elpis got distracted by Shabti, as he introduced himself. This boy offered her a hand and she unloaded the basket full of babylon candles into his care. [Rabbah, I thought that is what you meant by Shabti offering a hand, or you could have meant a handshake, I wasn't sure. I can fix it if you meant otherwise.] She took the two books and held them tight to her chest and held her flute box in the other hand. Her posture was more normal and loose. "Ah, thank you so much! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it to the house with all that stuff!" She said, her head half filled with air. She gave him a big smile and nodded at his introduction. "Oh, and it is wonderful to meet you as well, Shabti." His name felt strange in her mouth. It wasn't a common name and she didn't meet new people often, so she always felt strange, and a little bashful, when speaking a name for the first time.
Shabti's question popped the air that was clouding freely in her head. Elpis looked over at Shabti and studied his face for a few seconds before responding. "It is about the disease." Her voice was soft and her face was serious. She could tell by the look in his face and the tone of his voice that he wished otherwise. It was a look that she has seen often and always worn by her brother. "But don't worry! It is about much, much more! It is so exciting!" The smile returned on Elpis's face. Her seriousness was short-lived but extremely rare. It wasn't in her nature to be serious with anyone but her brother. Any longer with her serious tone and it would seem that something in Elpis's mental state was off.
"So," She said, about to change the topic severely. "What is your magic ability?" Her crystal blue eyes looked at him curiously as they turned the corner and kept walking. However, although her curious eyes stayed on him, she didn't give him enough time to answer. "You might have guessed mine already, seeing as there are multiple civilians asleep on the road back there and you might have heard the music, but my specialty is rhapsody. I play songs that convey meaning or have a tune that sets the mood and that is what my magic works off of. However my magic is strongest at night. It is powered by starlight. Isn't that cool?! I will get to use it on the adventure, hopefully!" Her eyes now shone with both curiosity and excitement as she waited for him to answer her question she stated at the beginning of the conversation.
[[I don't know what I mean. I don't even remember writing anything about any hands xD /fails]]
[[I wonder what Elpis' reaction would be if Shabti said he saw dead people....  (I don't know where that came from...)]]
Shabti smiled and took the basket and shifted it so it was positioned comfortably on his arm. It wasn't that heavy, but it weighed enough that he needed to loop both his arms in the basket handle. He glanced inside it and saw wax-like tubes that looked suspiciously like candle sticks. He was unsure why the siblings, that's what he figured Elpis and Akakios were, would have so many candles. Maybe there was something special about them? "It's no problem." Shabti told the girl, watching the candles as if they were some kind of rare creature.
The teen looked up as Elpis' voice suddenly became serious, then went back to happy and light. Shabti decided then that he didn't like it when the girl was serious. He would have to make sure she stayed joyful from now on. He didn't understand what Elpis meant by the illness was exciting. Maybe the siblings had information about it that was exciting? If that was the case, then it was good that he found the two. Though he had yet to be affected by the sickness so many have already gotten, he still wanted it to end. He was aware that he was lucky that no one he knew had been infected, and that luck would run out one day.
The conversation suddenly changed unexpectedly. Shabti wanted to ask more questions, but he stopped himself. Surely everyone else also had things to ask, and it probably wouldn't be fair for him to know everything before the others. And anyway, Elpis would be telling everyone everything once they get to her house. Shabti listened to the young lady as she babbled on about her magic. When she stopped, he figured that it was his turn.
"I, well..." He thought for a second, trying to think of a way to say what his power was. "I can talk to shadow creatures and ask them to do things for me." Shabti paused and glanced down at the basket for a second before turning his attention to a wall to a building to his left. He wondered if one of his shadows were following him; it would be easier to explain his power if he could show the girl it. "I usually just ask them to eavesdrop on people and bring back information to me."
~~
Kah stared at the back of Akakios' head. She was currently walking a few steps behind him, but she planned to change that soon. She also planned to change the fact that no conversation was passing between them. She increased her speed a bit and moved beside Akakios. As she kept pace, she watched the young man's face and tried to make out his ex
pression, which was difficult to tell because the dead weight was in her way.
She really didn't know what to say, so she continued to look at the other teen. The silence between them was like a heavy rock on their shoulders. Or a person, in Akakios' case. Regardless of what the metaphorical silence was, it was annoying and bothered Kah, so she spoke up.
"So," she started, "nice old guy you got there." Maybe using such a strange conversation starter was not such a good thing. Kah didn't care much for good things, though, she had luck on her side.
[[Haha this probably would be her reaction:
Dumbfounded. She stopped in her tracks with a dumbfound ex
pression. Her mouth slacked so it was slightly agape. Her eyes dulled down a bit and her forehead had creases in it. Elpis's ex
pression overall was truly a sight to see. She looked like a child who was told that if you just believed, you can fly. Through her hard ex
pression you could see the gears working in her head. The process of wrapping her head around what Shabti was very similar to telling a child that they could fly, because once she understood what he had just said, her eyes lit up as if lighting a candle in a dark room. You could see the realization and excitement wash over her.
"Is it true, is it true?! You can see dead people? Dead people! Oh what a gift, what a power!" Elpis had dropped all her belonging when the excitement had washed over her and now she was jumping up and down. She walked, or more like bounced, over to Shabti and put her hands on his shoulders and shook him a little, "Shabti, that is so cool! I am so glad I know you, someone who can see the dead! You are truly magnificent!" Her excited eyes faded back to her usual curious crystal blue ones. In a serious tone weighed down by excitement she asked, very quietly, "Is it possible to see my ma and pa?"...
That is probably what she would say, more or less.
Haha, that was fun! Well I will write the actual post tomorrow, I gotta be in bed in 10 minutes. Night~]]
Crystal blue eyes grew wide as wonder and excitement grew on an, already, eagerly excited face. Since Elpis was a child, the only magic or powers, in this case, she has ever gotten a chance to know has always been in the form of books; spells, chants, meaningless symbols and music. Now, however, she was experiencing much more and everything new that dare caress her ears always brought more excitement than she could contain. A joyous laugh escaped her lips, "Shadows?" She asked, the knowledge of speaking to darkness licking at her brain. A few more giggles escaped her lips as she poked and prodded at the idea of speaking to shadows.
Unim[injection]portant ideas about his powers flooded her mind and more giggles escaped. Elpis was acting like a child who found a fish, stranded on the beach, and each time it flopped, laughter escaped. Her laughter was innocent, she didn't mean anything cruel by it, it was simply joy, but it could be misinterpreted, which, this blue-eyed child didn't even consider. However, after she had gotten done accumulating all of her opinions about his power, she thought she would share it with him. "That is such a cool power Shabti! Being able to converse with something else no one else can see or hear!" Elpis's was grinning ear to ear as she looked at him will her wondrous eyes. "You must be very special to be graced with such a power! How unique!" But that was where the compliments end, now her wild ideas were spewing out of her mouth along with absurd questions. "Hey Shabti, you could totally ask them to spy on a girl you like and have them find out if they like you, right? Or, or maybe you could be a crime fighting man who has eyes all around the city and corrects the injustice that his other pair of eyes observe! Wait, what if the shadows lie to you? You can't even tell if they are lying or not, can you, cause they have no features, they are just a dark blob. Oh, or maybe, since you are the only one who can hear them, maybe they appear in human form to you? Wait how does you-"
Her excited voice that rambled on and on, time and time again came to a halt. Silence filled in the rest of her question, for her words weren't as im[injection]portant as her brother's. "Elpis" She could hear him say quietly, then louder for the rest of the group to hear, "We are here." His voice held a reluctance to it, and light strain that she wasn't used to hearing. His voice only sounded strained when he was irritable, and she wondered what was wrong. Her face went soft, her excitement that was openly ablaze was now down to a simmer. She wasn't facing Shabti anymore, and although she would have liked to ask him twenty questions, she just couldn't right now.
Elpis watched her brother stagger on inside, and when he was out of view, she turned to Shabti and smiled softly. "I am sorry we can't finish our conversation, maybe we can after we tell you all why you are here, and after we have are plan." Her smile was still soft but her eyes flickered brighter, "Thanks for keeping me company on the way here, sorry I blabbed the whole time. Oh! And thanks for holding the basket, you can just set it on the table or on one of the trunks inside." She gestured towards the door and spoke a little louder so Kah could hear as well. She looked from Shabti to Kah, "Go ahead inside and make yourself at home, I will just go get the others." She turned from them and ran in the opposite direction to make sure the other two were still behind them.
She could see the girl, for she had already rounded the corner, Elpis jogged up to her, "Zarah right? Well, as I told the others, you can just go on in and make yourself comfortable. My dear brother and I will be explaining everything in a while." Her smile was soft along with her eyes and she turned and pointed to the open wooden door so she knew where to enter. "Now if you would excuse me, I will make sure Khalil wont get left behind." And with that, Elpis left her, not giving her enough room to talk. Then, once again, she turned on her heels and ran away from the house.
Elpis turned the corner in search of Khalil and almost ran into him. She was running at full speed so she wasn't quite sure if he was right behind the corner or down a ways and she just happened to not know where she was going. "Oh!" She exclaimed, looking at his bored features. "I was looking for you. I directed everyone inside the house and didn't want you to fall behind." She giggled a little, "Truth is, I didn't even know if you were following us or not"
~~~

The appraisal was broken. Any high thoughts about Kah was now shattered, for she had spoken. As lame as the topic was, and as subtly curious as it might have been, the silence was broken, and irritation was starting to rub at the back of Akakios's neck. On any normal occasion, he would just ignore the girl, however, it was obvious that they were going to have to work together and talk to each other at some point. But at this time, when he had dead weight on his shoulders, he wasn't too eager to talk to her. So, he hoped a simple grunt and nod would suffice. He even went so far as to glance in her direction. It wasn't so much a pain to do, it was what that glance would hint to her. And Akakios was not up for a conversation.

His pace increased, they were almost to the house, the old man was stirring and moaning softly and Akakios wanted to get him off of his aching shoulders as quick as possible. Plus, he was trying to avoid taking to Kah. He turned the corner, walked a good fifty feet and turned again. Then, they reach the house. A little opening before forestry started to envelope the rest of the road was where their house was stationed. Akakios turned around slowly and sluggishly and stared at Elpis. She hadn't yet rounded the corner, but he could already hear her voice. When finally, she did round the corner, her steps slowed but she didn't stop her babbling. Irritation was already rising hairs on the back of his neck with each passing moment, so Akakios was upset that she failed to notice that they have arrived. I suppose I should speak up. He thought with a bitter tone. First, "Elpis." Then, to the group, "We are here."

They were all in front of the straw house. It wasn't a large one, but it was densely packed. There were la[injection]yers and la[injection]yers of straw packed onto each other. Some parts of the straw were woven tightly together and other parts were compressed with thick mud. It wasn't the most eye appealing house, but it was home. Akakios pushed the wooden door with greater force than it appeared, and the door swung open. The house was dimly lit, but from the sunlight that shone through the door, he could see their familiar house. There were two beds, small ones, over to the left corner of the house. There were two trunks in the house, one each at the end of the bed. Then, on the right side of the house, but closer to the door, there was a sink, no faucet but a drain, and a silver bucket sat inside with water that touched the rim. There was also a fire pit in the center of the house and another room, the bathroom, that was in the upper right corner of the house. On the left corner of the house, closest to the door, sat a small wooden table with five small stools. This was home sweet home.

Akakios stumbled over to the bed, his bed, and carefully laid down the stirring, sickly old man. The man was now mumbling and moaning, almost to the point of consciousness. He seemed like he was well enough to be woken up, however, Akakios thought it best to let him rest. But don't get the wrong idea, he only thought the old man should rest so he doesn't become freaked out by the sudden awakening and the strange people and strange surroundings, instead he could ease into the transition. Also, Akakios needed time to explain the plan to everyone. If they awoke the old man and started to interrogate him, the names that were on the list Iros had given him might be frightened and leave. His reasons were selfish, but that was just the type of person he was, cold-hearted to everyone but Iros, who was dying, and his sister, Elpis.

Turning from the old man to Elpis's bed, Akakios stole her blankets from her bed and turned back to the old man, laying it on him, gently and carefully, making sure not to wake him. Then, he turned to the table and sat down in a stool gesturing for the others to take a seat also. His gesture wasn't very polite, unintentionally of course, but he thought the sooner they got down to business the better. He waited for everyone to get settled in the house before he started to explain.

[[Sorry I sort of sped that whole process of getting to the house up. I started to describe the house and then got carried away.]]
