Gabriel's cheeks flushed slightly as he gave Arashi a sheepish smile. "Thanks," he responded softly, glad that he was, at the very least, welcomed fully by the other two. Or, well...Jake hadn't said anything negative and Arashi had been complimenting him, so he felt...very much accepted. It was very nice, feeling like he fit into a group this well. "I hope you don't mind my mentioning this, but...I already kind of feel like we fit together really well as a group overall," he said, rubbing his arm in an almost shy manner, being careful of his little Shinx.

Answering Arashi's question, Jake nodded, "Yes, a slow pace is alright with me if it aids you." Jake pondered over the words, finally saying "Yeah, we do seem to work together very well." rather sheepishly, giving a small, slightly embarrassed smile and holding Ember and Spark closer, pleased that his friend had noticed that the team worked well together.

"I don't mind at all." Arashi responded, nodding his thanks to Jake for his positive reply. As he had stated, this grouping was working out better than he'd expected, and with the unlooked-for benefit of actually making some new friends. That had to count for something. The sky had darkened considerably now, and stars were readily seen peeking between clouds that hung lazily in their clumps in the air above. The sounds of night in the forest, chirping of insects and unidentified rustlings, were a counterpoint to the mellow breath of the wind, and the moon's pale visage was serene and gibbous, lending a faint gossamer light to the scene. It was tranquil, and ripe for slumber.

As things around them began to calm down, Gabriel ended up letting out a soft yawn, huddling up into more of a ball to gather warmth from his little pokemon for the time being. He was starting to get cold, but he felt like he could wait a little bit longer before retreating to the fire to get warm mostly because all that movement would most likely wake up Bolt at the very least. The little one had earned a nice nap after all he'd been through that day and Gabriel felt it would be mean to just wake him up because he was feeling cold.

Jake watched the other two settle down, holding ember tightly. His skin prickled uncomfortably in the cold, but he didn't think it was fair to wake the little pokemon and ask him to light a fire. She had been through a lot today, and he didn't want her to overexert herself. Instead, he sat through it, Ember's sleeping body warming him as he looked up at the stars and moon overhead. He could hear pokemon rustling n the bushes, and once or twice saw a pair of luminous yellow eyes, peeking out behind some foliage before residing back into the darkness of the forest. The moon cast a cold silver light over everything, frosting the world into a dream of reality. Just for an instant, the world sunk into blackness as a large bird or beast flew over the moon, but Jake soon recovered his bearings and settled down for a long night of watch.

Arashi drew some leaves over himself and Hada, placing his bag beneath his head as a pillow of sorts, and settled in to sleep. It was chilly, but Pokemon - even those not of the Fire typing - emitted more heat than average for other creatures of their size. He could cope, for the time being. If he got too cold, or Hada did, he would do something about it along the lines of fire, but he was too sleepy to be bothered about it unless he had to. Mumbling a goodnight to whomever might be listening, Arashi slid his eyes shut and gave in to slumber.

Gabriel eventually ended up laying on the ground in a similar fashion to Arashi, curled around Bolt with Cynder nestled into the group as well. The tall, lanky teen did his best to stay warm with what he had, but it was exceedingly difficult to do so and he ended up shivering after a few hours.
Not wanting to be a bother to the other two he simply toughed it out, huddling into a tinier ball than before to brave the cold until he couldn't take it anymore and sat up to go relieve Jake of his watch, frowning at how cold the night was but not wanting to ask that a fire be made.
He could tough through it, surely. He wasn't /that/ hopeless.

When dawnfire began to stain the sky with brightness, and the morning clouds bore gowns of rich colour, the forest seemed to waken. Birds and their counterparts among avian Pokemon began to give voice to Windhaven through song, and Hada quietly among them. Arashi was wakened by the soft chirping of the Natu beside him, and he uncurled, shuffling into the open and blinking owlishly. Released from the human's cuddle, Hada immediately attacked the berries on the nearest bush. Chuckling slightly at the sight, Arashi wandered over to his nearest companion. It was Gabriel, who - Arashi noticed - was shivering. Frowning slightly, Arashi relit the fire they'd had the previous evening, after placing some more wood on it and expanding the width of its allowed circle. Hopefully, that would do the trick. If not, he'd try to pile leaves on the other teen without waking him.

Gabriel blinked when the fire was relit, looking up at Arashi. He hadn't even noticed the other male was awake, so this was a little embarrassing. He smiled sheepishly and murmured his thanks before allowing Bolt to follow after Hada, Cynder not far along. "I didn't want to end up waking you by lighting the fire," he said softly as he rubbed the back of his neck just before he glanced upwards. "We should probably try to further discern what area of the forest we're in. I haven't been in here extensively, nor have I ventured very far in, so I'm not completely sure what is beyond this point," he said, resting his head on his knees.

"If you needed the warmth, then I wouldn't have minded. Your health is as important as anyone else's." Arashi pointed out, passing over a handful of Pecha berries he'd gathered. "Your point about the forest is a valid one, though you and I do have access to winged explorers. We could ask them if they would mind scouting a little way for us, as they would be less likely to be obstructed, and so might see the clearest path ahead. Unless, that is, you know of something in these woods they shouldn't tangle with. Hmm... Ember should know, she's local to the area - we should ask her advice. I'm not sure how lost Bolt is, but he might have some idea as well."

Gabriel nodded slightly, taking a couple of the offered berries and expressing his thanks. "And I'm not sure about all of the Pokemon that live in this forest, so unless we know otherwise we should go with them," he responded as he glanced over at Bolt, who was happily eating some berries with the little group they'd made. "In the immediate area it shouldn't be too bad, though, since we didn't see anything on our way here and these two aren't hurt or anything." He rubbed the back of his neck, frowning slightly.

(sorry I've been gone for so long) Jake nodded in agreement. "You should have told me. I could have woken Ember and asked her to light the fire," he said, picking up a handful of berries. Popping one into Spark's eager mouth, he tossed the rest into his own, the flavors tumbling and swirling in his mouth as he chewed. The sun had barely reached the treeline, and he wanted to get out as early as possible to catch pokemon. He figured they had a better chance of survival with more pokemon.

((No problem))
Arashi responded to Gabriel's assertion about the Pokemon and their lack of injury with a quick smile. "Yes, that would seem to be a positive factor." He agreed, ruffling Bolt's head affectionately. "Even the little lost Shinx wasn't too badly hurt after wandering without parental protection. What I'm more concerned about is how we're going to find our campsite again. How far do you think we should go from it at a time, and do you think we should take turns to remain close to it?"

Bolt let out a rather happy sound at the affection, leaning into it before he wandered over to Gabriel, who provided him and Cynder both with berries to eat as he thought. "If need be we can find a way to mark our trails," he responded as he tilted his head. "And unless it comes down to it we shouldn't venture too deeply into the forest. It would be significantly more dangerous in the deep forest than it is here." He lifted his hand to idly gnaw on the edge of his thumb as he began pondering, taking various skills into account.
"Since we have no need to venture too far right now we should stay close to camp to get a feel for the area." He glanced at Arashi again. "Taking turns seems like a good idea, though."

"Yes," Jake nodded slowly, his mind calculating a plan. "What about this," he said after a few minutes of thinking, "We light a fire and all go out, but stay close to the smoke of the flames. We should be able to capture pokemon but still be able to find our way back to the campsite." Ember rubbed up against Jake's legs and he laughed, finally looking over to the others for a reaction to his plan

"Can we be certain that the fire won't spread or peter out if we leave it unattended?" Arashi wondered aloud, considering what both of them had said. "Marking our trails sounds promising, as does not venturing too far. If we all want to venture forth, we should construct more around the fire to keep it safe, and load it with more fuel before we set off." He hoped that this made sense to the other two, and didn't contradict either of them. After all, an argument out here would be rather counterproductive. Besides, they'd both presented good ideas.

Gabriel worried his lip between his teeth, looking at the fire. "I'm still not sure how safe it would be unless we make it a good-sized pit, maybe dig this one a bit deeper to make sure the fire won't rise too much higher and risk burning our camp down," he said softly, then glanced up to look between Arashi and Jake. "It wouldn't take too much more effort, but our current fire would have to go out in order for us to dig it deeper." He rubbed his arm lightly, looking up and around. The smoke could keep bug pokemon away, but what about others? If they left the camp unguarded there was a chance they could come back to it being demolished...but, he supposed it was up to the other two to help them reach a consensus.

Jake looked up, then nodded amiably. "Alright, in that case we should probably start digging." He stood up and stamped the fire out, Ember could always light one later. Bending down, he grabbed a large stick and began digging, but soon after abandoned the stick to use his hands. Ember came over to join him, scooping the claylike soil out with her small red paws.

((Not going to be as active as usual, due to a deadline on the 29nth, sorry, but I'll try to post when possible.))
Arashi, nodding, soon joined Jake in excavating a hole, acknowledging Gabriel's words as valid. He felt it likely that most Pokemon would want to avoid the site of a fire, with the possible exception of Fire types and Water types, and that a fire would thus be better than nothing at all. What he was currently mulling over was a way to protect the fire from rain, as the forecast weather was even now darkening the sky over to the east. It was not upon them yet, but would be by mid-day, and it was no mere shower but accompanied by wind. It was a problem, and he said as much. The pit would help with defending it, but there would always have to be an opening in order for air to fuel the flames. "I think this is deep enough." He added, shaking the clinging dirt from his hands, thankful that he knew some of the plants whose oils would serve as soap.

Jake sat back on his heels to admire the hole. The work had been done faster than he had expected, but he supposed that that was because he had help from another pair of hands and a pair of paws. The hole was about 3 or so feet deep and slightly less wide, getting wider the deeper it got. He nodded contemplatively at Arashi's words, agreeing that the rain would surely put the fire out, but then had an idea. Grabbing a few sticks, he bored them into the clay soil, making a teepee of sorts above it with room for someone to stick their hands in but nothing else. Scraping moss off of a rock, he layered it on top of the little odd looking hut, then turned to look at Ember. The little vulpix understood his quick glance and stuck her tiny head into the hole, igniting the tinder of sticks and logs that were piled high in the hole. For a few seconds Jake watched the fire blaze in the hole, stiffening once when the wind changed direction and blew into the hole, almost blowing the fire out. The he sighed in relief as the larger logs caught fire, sending puffs of woodsmoke through the meshing of the moss. Turning to look back at Gabriel and Arashi, he caught a bunch of smoke in the face and coughed violently, eyes streaming. Moving out of the path of smoke, he laughed, eyes red and watery, before making his way over to the others.
