Gabriel nodded slightly and smiled a bit. "This should work I think," he said gently, rubbing his arm a bit. "So long as we can stay within sight of the smoke we'll be able to find out way back at the very least, and hopefully it'll be enough of a deterrent to wild Pokemon." He looked out towards the forest, kneeling down to lift up Bolt and let him nestle into his arms as Cynder took her place on his shoulder. "If we're going to do this we should probably head out soon so we can rejoin here before it gets dark with plenty of time to go searching."
Maybe they could find more berry bushes with a wider variety of berries as well. Those would come in handy, especially since he recalled that some have different effects on Pokemon than others. "Although if it starts raining we hould all start back here, dark or not, so we can take shelter from it. We don't need any of us catching cold."
Even though he'd probably be the one to get sick. |

Jake straightened his grey shirt, turning to Gabriel. "Let's go look together over here," he said, pointing through the trees to a small brook he hadn't noticed before. "There might be different kinds of pokemon, and I'd like to check it out anyways." He picked Ember up and set her gently on his broad shoulders, the tiny fox pokemon settling comfortably down on his left shoulder. She struggled to keep her balance at the first step, but soon became used to the lulling rhythm of his footsteps and fell asleep, curled loosely around his neck. Spark stumbled along behind him, trying to keep up with Jake's long strides. He turned back to Gabriel and Arashi, saying to the other teens, "Are you coming or not? Arashi, you should probably catch at least one pokemon today, seeing as you only have one and Gabriel and I each have two."

Gabriel blinked. "Ah, alright," he responded quietly as he moved to kind of trail after Jake, looking back at Arashi for a moment. He bit his lip a bit before he sighed gently. Hopefully the smoke would mean he wouldn't get lost or anything. "So, um, Jake, any particular reason you wanted me to come along?" he asked gently, seeming truly curious. He wasn't really expecting it, after all. He'd been assuming that they'd be exploring separately, to cover more ground around the camp.

"I'd like to talk to you. I feel like around each other, we act differently than we would alone. So, tell me all your deepest darkest secrets," he said, laughing. "No, don't do that. But tell me more about yourself. Favorite color, pokemon you wish you were paired with, person you like." At this Jake blushed slightly, but hid it with a wide grin. "You seem like an interesting person, and you intrigue me. So, tell me, are you interesting?"

Gabriel blinked once, then looked forward and tilted his head a little bit. "Oh, well, um. My favorite color is red, but not...bright red? A soft shade of red." He frowned a bit, thinking a moment. "As for Pokemon I'd prefer being paired with I'm not certain I have one. I'm quite happy with Cynder and Bolt and all Pokemon have their strengths and weaknesses. I do, however, have a least favorite type. Ice-types, mostly because they're too cold to the touch and I get cold easily as it is." He sighed gently, then gently hugged Bolt a bit closer. "And, um. As for someone I like, I don't really have anyone yet? I don't normally get to socialize too much, so...I haven't really formed any kind of bonds until you and Arashi. With, um, people at least. I've always liked Pokemon."

Arashi, content with the state of the fire, nodded to Jake with his mind buzzing. A Pokemon? Perhaps if he baited a trap... Arashi picked some sweet berries, as many as was practical, and formed a trail of them leading towards him, where a pile of them sat in front of him, and he sat still. He wondered how the others were doing, and whether anything would smell his berries.

(that's fine. We all get writer's block sometimes) Jake nodded, picking his way through the brambles towards the stream. The branches scratched his face, cutting clear red lines across the tanned skin, but Jake just wiped the blood away and continue walking with Gabriel in silence. As they reached the little burbling brook, he turned back to the other teen. "I think we have ourselves a pokemon," he said, nodding over to a small, dark, furry pokemon hiding in the bushes.

Gabriel blinked once, then paused when they came across a pokemon. He reflexively moved to kneel down on the ground, gently setting Bolt down and stroking his head as he tried to ignore the distinct tickling feeling of his sparks against his hand. Bolt looked up at him curiously, tilting his head.
"Try getting down to its level so it won't be scared," Gabriel said softly as he looked up at Jake. |

Jake knelt down beside Gabriel, watching as a small black nose appeared, followed by a grey and black canine head. The little poochyena sniffed the air cautiously, finally exposing itself and curiously walking closer to Gabriel. Jake extended his hand slowly, and the poochyena shrank back into the bushes. Finally, the small black nose appeared once more, this time bringing another small black nose with it.

Gabriel kept his hands to himself and let Bolt step forward, mewling at the poocyena and its friend. He crouched, looking like he wanted to play while Gabriel tucked himself into as small of a ball as he could manage, being as tall as he was. Being scrawny helped, though, making him look a lot less threatening as he regarded the Pokemon with a gentle smile. "Don't be frightened," he told them gently, keeping his voice soft.

Jake crouched lower to the ground, following Gabriel's example. Ember stepped up shyly, tails flicking slightly at the poochyena. Jake made a move to grab his pokedex from his bag, but seeing as it almost scared the two young pokemon away, he stopped his hand and became utterly still. The two little dogs came closer and closer to the boys, finally stopping a foot or so away from Jake and Gabriel and seeming to settle down. Jake withdrew a pokeball from his pack, opening the sphere and setting it between himself and the poocheyena. He nodded to Gabriel, whispering to do the same. The poocheyena came closer and closer, finally allowing it to become trapped in the pokeball. The other sniffed closer to Gabriel.

Gabriel smiled a little wider and gently reached out his hand slightly, leaving it in place for the Poochyena to sniff while Bolt decided to investigate as well. "It'd be a shame for you two to get separated, and since you seem at least kind of fond of me, little Poochyena, would you like to join me, Bolt the Shinx, and Cynder the Fletchling?" he asked gently, moving to pull out a poke ball and set it nearby. "You can hit the white button with your paw. It's up to you," he said quietly.

The little poochyena batted the ball, encasing itself inside the red and white spheroid. Jake grinned at Gabriel and retrieved his own pokeball, releasing the poochyena next to him and scanning the pokemon with his Pokedex. The poochyena was male, had a naughty nature, and knew Poison Fang, Ice Fang, Tackle, and Sucker Punch. It was level 10. He turned to Gabriel, and asked "What are your poocheyena's stats?"

Gabriel reached out to grab his pokeball and re-release his new Poochyena, rubbing the little puppy pokemon's head as he pulled out his Pokedex to scan it. Female, level 10. Adamant nature. Movelist: Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Tackle, Howl.
Gabriel looked up at Jake and turned his Pokedex to show him since he'd asked, offering him a small smile. "Not too bad," he said softly, looking at his little Poochyena and scratching her behind one of her ears. Then he pulled his hand back to let Bolt and the little puppy play. "I think I'll call her Nyte," he said softly, smiling. "Since Poochyena and Mightyena are both Dark types." |

"Ahh, that's a good name. I think I'll call my little boy Shade," Jake said, watching the little puppy wrestle with Nyte and Bolt. He was much less shy now that he was around other pokemon, and eagerly accepted Ember as she came to play with them. (Changed some of his stats) Finally, he stood triumphantly on top of Bolt, gently pinning the little shinx down with his oversized paws. Yelping as Bolt bit his paws, he jumped back and ran over to Nyte, nuzzling her affectionately and licking her fur flat with his little pink tongue.

Nyte wagged her tail and returned the affections, licking Shade in return as Gabriel stood up and looked around. "Should we go check on Arashi?" he asked after a moment, looking back in that direction. "He did only have one pokemon, not that I don't think Hada wouldn't be able to handle something, but...still."

Jake nodded his agreement, uncrouching and straightening up. Looking at Gabriel, Jake realized how tall he was. Gabriel was one of the only people Jake knew who stood taller than himself, at his height of 6'5''. "You're right, we should go check on him," Jake replied, setting off at a pace most people would call brisk through the trees and away from the brook. He followed the trail of broken branches and bushes that they had made on their way, finally ending up at the campsite.

Gabriel trailed after with Bolt and Nyte at his heels, looking around as he rubbed his arm slightly. He smiled a bit once the campsite came into view, trotting out into view with Jake. "Did you catch anything?" he asked Arashi, his voice quiet in the hopes of not startling anything away should there be something approaching.

"Not yet," Arashi responded softly, remaining still, "But there's something snuffling around the berries I laid out as bait. I didn't want to get inadvertently lost while searching, as I am prone to do, so I decided to go about this the angler's way." Indeed, there was something fluffy nosing around nearby, clearly drawn in by the food. Arashi couldn't yet see what it was, but he felt sure he would soon. "How have you fared?"

"We found two Poochyena," Gabriel responded as he moved to sit down, once again making himself small as well as allowing Bolt to clamber into his lap as Byte set fled beside him, tail wagging. "This is Nyte," he introduced gently, pausing as Cynder decided to nest in his hair. "She came out of the bushes with Shade, Jake's Poochyena," he said as he motioned for Jake to sit down as well.
