How could he just act normal, like nothing happened? Unless he was serious, and nothing really did happen and the black eye was from something that had nothing to do with his father. But, I didin't believe Sanctus that easily. "How'd you get the black eye?"

I replied eventually, figuring it was the safest option until I figured out which she would be happier with.
She always seemed so worried about me, and I wasn't used to someone actually caring, so it was hard to know how to act around her.

I pulled away, not wanting to look at her. It was harder to lie when there was someone looking at you.

I hated it when she acted so over-protectively, and tried to make myself look busy by rearranging my books for no reason whatsoever.

If nothing else, she'd be too mad at me to talk to me today, and that was a good thing. It meant she wouldn't be likely to get herself into a lot of trouble.

The second I walked into the cafeteria, the girls that used to be willing to be my 'friends', made sure to make the whole table full so I wouldn't come by. I swallowed nervously, searching for Sanctus so I wouldn't have to look like an idiot in the middle of the cafeteria.
Failing at finding the black - eyed stubborn brat, I found a seat of my own. My cheeks turned as red as tomatoes as I saw a couple people staring. It was like their expressions were saying, 'Look, that's the girl that actually talks to Sanctus...' What was with these people?

I walked into the cafateria, and saw Dawn on her own at a table. Guessing it was too late for her to just pretend she didn't know how bad I was when she first met me, I sighed and walked up to her, not wanting her to embarass herself further by having her sit on her own. I'd just have to try and talk her into trying to get back to being friends with them. Walking over to her, he sat down opposite her and pulled his lunchbox out of his bag.
''See what I mean? People don't even want to try being your friend now.''
I sighed, and took my sketchpad and pencils out too, glancing across the table at her as I did so, before opening it up on a new page.
This was a new sketchpad, one I'd gotten a few days before I ended up in the hospital, but it was already half full with drawings of just one thing.

I smiled as I looked down at his sketch pad.
"Wait a second. You draw too?"
I ignored his first comment as I fished through my bag for my own sketch pad. I hadn't touched it since I first met Sanctus, when I was sitting on the opposite end of this table. I shoved away the memory, seeing as it turned out to be a fight with him and the other bully. He may have just little doodles in the sketch pad, but at least we found something we had in common.

I mumbled, starting to draw. I glanced up to her every few moments, wondering what she was doing.
''I take it you do as well?''
I said, nodding towards her own sketchpad, before keeping my head down and drawing what I had been itching to draw almost constantly every time I picked up my pencil.
I wasn't sure what was up with me, but there was definitely something.

Goodness. Finally, a similarity between us. Other then our stubbornness, there wasn't much else besides this. "Well, yeah." I said with a small laugh. He seemed really interested in what he was drawing actually, and I was dying to find out what it was. "Watcha' drawing right now?"
