She listened to him as she buried her feet in the sand. After nodding a few times as he went on, she shrugged at his question of her work. "Just finishing up college, or I was, so I didn't really have anything going for me. I wanted to be an astronomer, though. The constellations can be interesting if people decide to ever think about what's around them instead of sticking their noses in technology."

She pulled her thorn ridden foot from the sand and crossed her leg over her lap. With another twitch of her nose, she grasped the thorn and pulled the surprisingly large thing from her skin. She flicked the slightly bloodied thing away and waited for the cut to clot up.

"You ever take the time to look at the stars?" she asked sarcastically and leaned forward a bit to see the edges of the tide lapping at one of her sticks. She flickered her gaze back to the sun. "That took about sixteen minutes." She stated, mostly to herself.

Jethro stared at the sand as she spoke. It was no surprise to him that she was still finishing school, but what he hadn't expected was for her to say she was studying astronomy. He peered over at her. Nowadays it seemed like a useless job, unless you worked for NASA or something. But he didn't say anything but continued to listen to her speak. When she stopped and crossed her legs he watched as she pulled out a giant thorn. If she was walking with that in her foot the entire tire he was impressed. Most girls would have wailed the moment the stepped on it and hopped around on one foot.

"You ever take the time to look at the stars?"

She continued on, the thing in her foot already forgotten. He grinned and shook his head. "You don't see many stars stars in the city. To polluted and too many lights." he said leaning back on his hands, he didn't add the part about being to tired to look anyways. He looked away from the girl and looked back over at the ocean. It was kinda calming in a way. Under different circumstances he might have enjoyed sitting on the beach like this. Hell he even might have under these circumstances if there weren't two dead bodies ruining the scenery. He let out a little sigh it seemed as if it was only going to be the two of them. He heard her say something beside him but he wasn't really paying attention.

After a few moments of silence he looked back at her. "You know if the tied doesn't drag the bodies out to see we'll have to get rid of them before they begin to stink." Not the best way to come back from a quiet moment but he just tended to say whatever was on his mind, no matter how random it was.

Ooc; lol xD Sorry I wasn't on. I had to babysit at this party yesterday night. Like 30 something kids from 6 to 11. Made 50 bucks, but I bumped it to 70 when I bet my neighbor I would sit in a water cooler for 2 minutes. Like LAY in it. |D

Bic;

Iris drew her legs up to her chest and rested her chin on her knee. She dug her toes into the sand and looked at the setting sun across the horizon of the water. She could see the faintest light of a few stars as she looked up and she glanced at Jethro when he said there were too many lights in the city to see anything. "That's too bad," she murmured before looking up at the sky again.

When Jethro mentioned the bodies, she sighed and looked down at the few that were scattered along the beach. The tide had risen to another stick; the other one wavered a little as the waves got a bit stronger. The water lapped at a few of the bodies and Iris frowned. "I think the tide will take them. I believe it was at its lowest when we crashed. We just have to wait." In all honesty, Iris really didn't want to go near the people.

"This is really happening," she said dully.

((Dude, thats awesome XD))

Jethro stared bordly out at the sea. If what Iris said was right about the tide taking the bodies away, he was sure they were probably the only survivors, and that would suck. He let out a small sigh and looked along the beach, before looking at the tide, which had reached yet another stick.

He nodded as he heard the girl mutter something to herself about this really happening. He couldn't beleive it either, and he was surprised he wasn't more, surprised. The two of them were remarkably calm under the circumstances. He looked over at Iris, who had her chin resting on her knees, she looked so childish he wondered how old she was.

He looked back over at the beach, before feeling his jacket and looking at the whiskey. He was about to open it when he thought of something. "Hey shouldn't we scavenge the beach before the tide pulls away anything useful?"

Though what Jethro said was true, the idea of taking possessions from dead people made Iris's spine tingle. She wasn't about to let Jethro know she was scared so she pushed herself to her feet and brushed off the sand on her butt. "I'll take Mr. trench coat and the fat lady," she muttered as she looked at the two bodies on the beach.

Without waiting for Jethro's response--she still didnt want him to see how scared she was--she walked confidently over to the man with the trench coat. Leaning down next to him, she held her breath in case the pungent smell of death was waiting to infiltrate her nose.

She rolled him over onto his back and dug her fingers on the inside of the trench coat's pockets. With a bit of surprise, she found a lighter, and after testing it once, she joyously discovered that it was full. She tucked that into her pocket and searched the rest of him, frowning at the faded picture of what could only be his family that she found in his wallet.

She tossed the wallet away and moved on to the fat lady. She had a tight-fitting wind breaker jacket on, if that was even possible. The pearls around her neck glimmered faintly, still slightly wet from the ocean water. Iris didn't find anything with her.

She noticed another body a few paces away and with a shrug, walked over. She sucked in a tight breath when she saw the woman, probably the same age as Iris herself. Her eyes were still open. Iris closed them gently and searched her. Nothing again, but Iris bit her lip when she realized the girl's pants and shirt were the same size. "She doesn't need them; I do," Iris said softly, but er fingers refused to move.

So she sat next to the girl and watched the stars.

Jethro raised an eyebrow as the girl muttered something about a fat lady before hustling off. He smiled slightly to himself before he too stood up. He knocked some sand from off of his legs and his butt. He walked off in the other direst of the girl to a man who his pushed over with his foot.

Now Jethro wasn't going to openly admit it but, the thought of wearing another mans clothes felt odd too him, but then again, desperate time. He squated down and rifled through the mans pockets, he pulled out a soggy wallet. Money wasn't much use to him here. He put that back before his moved around again to find a pen knife. "This will come in handy." Jethro muttered to himself as he shoved the knife into his pocket. He searched some more but found nothing else of much use, but he took the mans jacket anyways, they could always use it to cover the ground so they wouldn't have to sleep on the dirt.

He moved over to woman, who really didn't have anything on her but a hoodie, he took it anyways. Sure it wasn't quite his style but he'd give it to the girl if she wanted, otherwise he'd use it as a makeshift pillow. He continued to another body, keeping a sharp eye on the ground in hops of seeing something else burried in the sand. The next body he was found was another larger, man. He looked disgusting, but Jethro was sure he was probably that nasty before the whole accident happened. Jethro didn't want to spend much time with him, so he just flipped him over with his foot. The mans face looked disgusting, it wasn't cut or ruined or anything, the man was just ugly. He was the works, fish lips, balding, and worst of all his giant bug eyes were wide open, if he had picked this guy off the street he would have assumed the man was a pervert.

Jethro rubbed an eye and continued on, coming across more bodies, taking a few more sweaters. He tried not to pay attention to the nagging voice in the back of his mind telling him this was wrong. He just kept telling himself that they didn't need it anymore so it was all good. He sighed and looked back, he was pretty far from the sticks, if he squinted it could just make them out. "Better get back soon." He muttered to himself as he switched the coats into his other arm. Just as he was turning he found the body he was looking for. "Oh no way." He breathed, a small smile on his face. He walked over and looked at the man, fairly young, and in an expensive suit. He moved his foot and kicked the guy over, once he saw his face he smiled. It was him, Garret, Jonathan, he couldn't remember, but it was the face of his girlfriends husband. He quickly squatted down and went through the mans pocket, happy to find a swiss army knife, a pack of cigarettes, a fancy flask-Jethro took a swig to make sure it was full- and in his wallet a picture of the man with his family. Jethro quickly pulled the sodden picture, which wasn't too wet and ripped the man out of it before sliding it into his pocket. He decided he was done, he would have searched longer, but he could see the tide was coming in. Just as he was about to stand up, he grabbed the fancy Rolex off the mans hand. Stupid prick, he though as he slid the thing into his pocket. They would need to know the time, plus Jethro felt better knowing the watch was back in his posession.

He hurried back, at least as fast as he could on sand, towards Irissa. He wondered if he should have taken the clothes from the man he found who was his size, but he would feel weird in that. When he reached back to the spot, the tide had come in to yet another two sticks. He dropped the stuff and prayed the tide didn't reach the forest line. He looked around, he didn't see the girl. He squinted and saw she was a little ways off sitting down next to a dead body. "Hey Cupcake." He called as he walked closer to her. "Find anything useful?"

Irissa didn't know why her eyes watered up as Jethro appraoched, and she widened her eyes to dry out the tears. Angrily, though more so at herself, Iris shoved one hand into her pocket and flashed the lighter before Jethro, not really wanting to give it to him. Once she was sure her ex
pression was as stony as it  could be, she stood to face him and gave him a smirk.

"Found a lighter. You?" she asked and was vaguely aware of water swirling around in her ankles. She began to move back to the shore line and looked up at the setting sun. It had taken about four hours for the tide to come in as high as it was, and it seemed to have stayed at the third to last stick for the past half hour. She noted the distance from the forest in her mind.

"We should be safe within a few meters of the forest line. The tide won't come up anymore," she said and pushed her hands back into her pockets, exhaustion suddenly taking hold of her. She tripped over a pile of sand that came way under her feet and staggered for a few frightening moments before straightening herself. She shook her head in an attempt to get rid of the color that had flooded her cheeks.

"Any comment and I'll be tempted to burn you in your sleep," she growled as she stomped onto dry sand.

Jethro smiled when the girl waved a lighter before asking what he'd found. Before he could talk she had started talking once again about the tide. He followed her gaze and hoped she was right, it would be terrible if the tide swallowed the entire island but that was impossible.

He turned to follow her, in time to see her stumble. A grin spread across his face as he saw her blush, and he put his hands up defensively. "Dont worry Cupcake, I wasn't going to say anything." He said, trying to keep from laughing. He followed after her, walking carefully so he wouldn't fall like her.

"I took a couple of coats and sweaters, they'll fit but they'll probably be big." He said as he picked up a sweater and tossed it to her. "If not we can use them as beds or pillows." He sat himself down next to his pile and rifled through it. "I also found, a pen knife, a swiss army knife, a pack of cigarettes and a flask." He didn't bother to tell her about the other stuff, the items didn't help the situation anyway.

He looked back up at her. "Did you fina anything else besides a lighter?"

"Sure you weren't," Iris muttered as she seated herself back onto the sand, a few tufts of grass from the jungle behind her brushed her arm. She drew her arms over her chest and stretched her legs out to their full extent, aware at how childish this may seem, but she really didn't care what this man thought of her. She sighed when she wondered how much time she would have to stay here with him, trying to keep the word forever out of her head.

She listened as he relayed what he'd found, not watching him, but the bodies that were now being swallowed up by the waves. She thought they ought to float, but she realized it wasn't entirely logical; the air was already all out of them. She hoped the tide would have enough strength to pull them out to sea where they could rest peacefully on the ocean floor.

"That woman had stuff that would fit, but I couldn't take it." She hugged her chest as pain and anxiety fluttered through her. The sun had set just a few minutes ago and she gasped slightly at the extremely bright stars that shone in the tenebrous sky. She didn't realize the sudden pain go away; she found her favorite constellations instead and was vaguely aware of Jethro beside her.

"Antlia, the Sextans, Ursa Major." She murmured a few of them under her breath as her expert eyes found their different points. It was like looking at a map and once you learned how to find the North star, it was a piece of cake to find the rest. You just had to know the right month and time.

"My dad taught the constellations to me when I was little." She turned her eyes from the sky to Jethro. "I miss him," she admitted as she hugged her knees to her chest again.

"That woman had stuff that would fit, but I couldn't take it."

Jethro raised an eyebrow at that and looked over at the body she was sitting next too which was now being pulled away by the water. It made sense now, he glance over at her before looking back to the body. Iris seemed like such a child, but it was still good to see there were good people in the world. He had taken stuff without as much as a second thought.

He was admiring the sea when he heard the girl speak. He looked over at her an eyebrow slightly raised. But before he could speak she started again, talking about how her father taught her about the stairs. She then turned to looked at him before saying she missed him.

Jethro wasn't actually sure how to comfort her, that was never his strong point. "That's nice." He said looking away from her gaze. "My dad taught me jack sh-t." He muttered looking up at the stars. There was an awkward moment before he reached into his jacket and pulled out his whiskey. "I need a drink." He said sloshing the  liquid into his mouth. "Hey you old enough to drink? Wanna sip?" He asked offering the bottle to her.

He tried to keep his own memories from rushing up. He wondered if his family was thinking about him, the word probably hadn't gotten out, but they wouldn't be thinking of him anyway.

She nearly rolled her eyes at his offer for the drink, not sure she really wanted to drink out of something that had touched his lips. She glanced down from his face down to the bottle for a moment, fingers hesitating before she reached out and pulled it from his hands. "Twenty-one exactly, but given the circumstances, I probably wouldn't give a damn anyway," she said before she tilted the bottom of the bottle upward toward the sky.

She didn't so much as bl
ink when the fiery liquid travelled down her throat. She offered the bottle back to Jethro, not wanting to take more because she'd never really had time to build up a tolerance to alcohol. She remembered a blurry vision of her dad from when she was younger; that was the only time she could remember her.

"No one'll really miss me back home," she said as she uncurled from her almost ball-like form and leaned back on her elbows. She glanced sideways at Jethro for a moment before she looked back up at the moon. "What about you, detective? Think we're going to die out here?"

"Twenty-one?" Jethro repeated as he took his bottle back. Great, he thought to himself as he took another sip. I'm stuck on an island with a child. Though he would never say it to her face, that pretty much explained her behaviour. He took another sip before he heard her speak again.

"No one'll really miss me back home, What about you, detective? Think we're going to die out here?"

He paused for a moment as he decided what the answer, she was talking about her family, he could talk about them, but then again there really was no family to talk about. His hand went to the photo in his pocket, yeah he wasn't going to answer that one. "Don't say that." He said glancing over at her before taking a sip of his drink. "I'm sure they'll discover us soon and we can back to our normal lives." Though he found this a nice break from his 'normal life' considering that sucked pretty badly. "I'm sure we can survive here for a couple of weeks."

"Didn't know I lost my freedom of speech when we left the US," Iris said with a roll of her eyes at Jethro's first response to her question. She rested her arms against the sand and leaned back even farther, her raven black hair cascading over her shoulders and brushing against the ground. She kept her eyes on the stars, basically toning Jethro out.

The air was still warm, even though moonlight had long filtered over the beach. Iris sighed and rested her back against the ground, clasping her hands together over her stomach as she did so. "We can save the rescue talk for tomorrow," she said, feeling oddly depressed at the thought of rescue which meant the whole thing was serious. She sighed and rolled onto her side, back toward the man.

"After a couple of weeks, I'll ask the same question again," she said with a yawn.

Jethro nodded as he heard he talking sarcastically. He looked up at the sky, it really was a lovely night. There was a cool breeze, and he could see the stars which really were nice. He felt her shift beside him and her voice popped up again. "After a couple of weeks, I'll ask the same question again,"

He chuckled lightly and raised the bottle back to his head before looking down at her. "You sound tired Cupcake. Maybe it's bedtime." he grinned slightly realizing it probably sounded like her was making fun of her, which he was. "You wanna use some of jackets to make a bed? So you don't have to sleep on the sand?"

"Why thanks for stating the obvious," she said irritably, though the bite of her words was swallowed by another yawn. She sighed to herself and turned to her other side when Jethro asked the question about the jackets. She thought for a moment and chewed the inside of her cheek.

"I won't use them unless I have hypothermia," she decided before turning back to her other side. She ran her fingers through the sand and her lulled thoughts were focused on how soft it felt. Deciding she was anxious and probably looked like a fidgety child to Jethro, she turned onto her back and settled her eyes on the stars.

"Night, detective," she murmured and closed her eyes.

Ooc; Time skip?

"I won't use them unless I have hypothermia,"

Jethro shrugged taking a sip of his whiskey. "Suit yourself." he said as the girl laid down in the sand. She was probably too afraid, or the thought of someone else's clothes disgusted her.

" Good night." He muttered after she turned and closed her eyes. He stared up at the sky for a few moments before lying down, using a sweater as a makeshift pillow. He stared at the sky before the sound of waves put him to sleep.

Nightmares tossed through Iris's dreams, and she was constantly being pulled into near wakefulness for most of the night. When the first rays of dawn stretched over the water, she was already awake and sitting up. Jethro's sleeping form beside her made her snort before she stood and dusted off her jeans, wondering if she'd have to make a habit of doing that every day.

Her throat was dry and scratchy from the salty night air she had slept under. Jethro's whiskey was only tempting for a moment; it wouldn't do much to soothe her thirst, and she didn't want to wake the man up. Figuring she had nothing better to do, Iris brushed aside some ferns and stepped hesitantly on the undergrowth of the forest. Her toes squished in the moss and memories of hiking trips with her father came rushing back to her.

She turned to glance back at Jethro before shrugging and heading into the forest. All sorts of noises suddenly emerged, but maybe that was just her ears naturally tuning in to the sound of the forest. The sounds of millions of birds singing their morning call, and night bugs giving off their last chirps before crawling away into their trees to rest for the day.

One sound sang beautifully to her ears, one that went above all others. She walked nimbly over gnarled roots and thorns, towards the sound of the running water. She pushed aside more fronds and grinned when she spotted the small stream that wound its way through this part of the forest. She leaped over a few rocks and kneeled down by the water's edge.

After drinking her fill, she thought she ought to get back to Jethro. Nah, the man'll be fine without me. She thought to herself and stretched out on the ground beside the stream.

((Psh, working on a post...))

Jethro awoke to the annoying sound of a bird cawing in the tree above him. He opened on eyes slowly, and peered up. He yawned and rubbed his eyes before sitting up and looking next to him. Irissa was gone, but he didn't care. He normally woke up alone. He gazed out a sea, wondering how long he would have to be stuck here with her. Sure they had their moments, but other than that, he didn't really like her. She was childish, and he hated children, except for his own of course. But even they annoyed him sometimes.

He stood up stiffly. He didn't have the best sleep, every once in a while he turn and wake up. There was no reason, no nightmares, he just woke up; and had a hard time falling back asleep. He stretched hearing his joints crack, he felt like an old man. He shook his head and walked onto the beach and looked around. Most of the bodies had been washed away, which was upsetting because he wanted to seach some more. He let out a small sigh and scratched his chin his eyes scanning the area. He wondered where Iris was but he didn't feel like searching. He put his hand into his pocket and pulled out the photo before pulling out the flask. He opened it and gave it a whiff before taking a swig. Bourbon, he was good with that. It tasted as if someone had blackened whiskey with syrup, which he was sure he hugged last night.

He took another sip before looking at the forest behind him. He would have to find Iris eventually, so he might as well look. He walked into the brush and looked around, wondering where they really were. Then he heard the unmistakable sound of running water. "No way." He muttered as he walked towards a sound flask in hand. He was mid sip when he walked into the opening or the stream. "Wow." He said and he walked and looked at it wondering if it was fresh. Then he saw Iris. "Why good morning." He said as hetook a sip from the flask.
