Iris's nerves settled a bit when she heard Jethro call to her and she surprised herself by feeling just the tiniest bit warm when he called her hon. She refused to let heat flood her cheeks and instead looked down at the rabbit. She opened her mouth to say something and stopped herself, settling herself with a smile and a nod instead.
"Nothing better than some rabbit meat," she said sarcastically as she held the bloodied rabbit out to him. "You can cook," she said as she walked out onto the sand.

Jethro took the rabbit from her hands. From what he'd heard rabbit was actually one of the leanest meats, though he guessed that didn't matter now because he doubted the girl was watching her weight.
His army friends would brag about roughing it in the wilderness without tents and all the other hardcore survival nonsense. Now he kinda wished he had gone with them, if they were still alive.
He followed after her keeping an eye out for a flat rock. He finally past one and bent to pick it up with his rabbit free hand. They had reached the encampment and it was another awkward little moment, at least for him. He walked over to the fire pit and squatted down, placing the limp rabbit on the rock he picked up.
What he was about to do wasn't exactly for the faint of heart so he wasn't exactly sure if Iris would want to see or not. He looked over at her. "Hey Hon. Wanna do me a solid and go find some big leaves?" he asked. While she was off with that he could skin this thing, plus he wanted to wrap up the pieces they didn't need. "That is unless you want to watch."

"Detective, you're not exactly as observant as I thought," she said incredulously when he told her to fetch some leaves. She shook her head with pursed lips and sat down across from him and the small ditch for the campfire. Her mossy green eyes stared at the lifeless rabbit for a moment and then she turned her gaze back to Jethro. "I've skinned rabbits myself, as i was thinking you already knew since I tend to know how to get around in there," she said as she pointed behind her, though kept her gaze with his. She shrugged down at the rabbit and sighed. Things seemed to be awkward for him and she could see why. Maybe something was wrong with her being so at ease. Feeling like she needed to explain, she opened her mouth again. "My dad took me on hiking trips, real ones where we'd lug telescopes and star charts up mountains to find an outlook post so we could look at the stars. You didn't think I learned all this from tv. did you?" she said with a smirk.

The corners of his mouth tugged up slightly when she said he wasn't observant. Truth was he was trying real hard not to watch her, he had put he natural instincts of untrustworthiness aside. He knew he would have looked creepy if she caught him watching. He had just grown so use to thinking people were always up to bad things this was all new to him.
"You didn't think I learned all this from tv. did you?"
Truth was he did by he wasn't going to admit that. "No ma'am." he grinned as he shook his head. He pulled off his jacket and set it in the sand next to him before rolling up his sleeves. He scratched at his Carpe Diem tattoo as he caught sight of the one that said Selina one his wrist. He tore his eyes away from it and looked back at the rabbit. He took the knife and continued from Iris's cut, removing the rabbits head completely before moving to remove the legs. He didn't really feel like going through the whole squeezing it's entrails out of it's ass thing so he looked over at Iris. "Hey seeing as your hands are already dirty you wanna pull this things guts out manually? I mean I could always squeeze it out it's ass."

"Manually?" she repeated with pursed lips. "I didn't know there was an /automatic/ way to do it," she finished coyly and made sure to keep her eyes away from the name tattoed onto Jethro's wrist. It bothered her. She frowned to herself, but reached for the rabbit all the same. Her already bloodied fingers slipped through the slit in its stomach and pulled out the main organs such as the bladder and lungs. She pulled out the heart and the rest of the organs and grimaced at the crimson coating that had begun to dry over her skin. She resisted the urge to wipe it on her jeans and instead looked at Jethro's blue eyes. "I'm going to go wash the bunny paint from my hands," she said sourly and picked herself up. Man. it seemed like she'd done a lot more getting up and sitting down than actually moving around. Her stomach growled as she neared the shore. She washed her hands vigorously in the water, but no matter how hard she scrubbed. faint blotches of red had stained her skin. She bit her lip in irritation and trudged back out of the water. Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink when she realized her chest had gotten wet when she'd bent over repeatedly.

Jethro nodded when she said she was going to wash up. His eyes trailed after her for a brief moment before removing whatever was left to remove. He looked over at where she had the entrails serving for any spots of disease before he moved back to the rabbit and began slicing it into strips. He wondered if he should throw some alcohol on it to give flavor, but he didn't want to waste it. He wondered if the girl knew any herbs, but then again this island seemed tropical and not deciduous like the forest of America.
He looked up when he heard he approach, her face a bright pink. He raised an eyebrow slightly and grinned before lookig back down at his meat. "Hey Cupcake." he looked back up at her, "You don't happen to know any herbs do you? Otherwise this rabbit will be bland."

Iris ignored his grin and sat down across from him again. The soft feel of the sand was losing its initial magic touch and she rubbed her legs to brush away some of the stickier sand. Dozens of natural herbs ran through her mind, but she looked doubtfully at the forest, or whatever it was. "This is a tropical forest at first glance," she said glumly. "But I looked at a few vines and they're nothing like in the books. That and you don't find rabbits in tropical rain forests. I'm not in a hurry to try out any plantlife." She shrugged; she'd tell him of her plans to track the omnivores later.

She had a point there. It had never actually occurred to him how weird it really was to find a rabbit in a tropical forest like that. He was just excited for the meat.
He nodded and looked over at the fire. "I'm gonna need the lighter." He said motioning to the fire pit next to him. "How badly do you wanna eat. We can spit these over the fire but it'll just end up charred and nasty. I can cook it on this rock which will take longer but it won't be as burnt."

Iris dug into her pocket and tossed the lighter at Jethro when she managed to fish it out. She made a face when he mentioned the charcoiled meat, a taste she really didn't want to experience. Her stomach growled at the thought and she grimaced.
"I'm hungry enough to eat that thing raw, but I'm not eating something burned to the crisp," she finally stated. "Besides, there's not much else we can do."

Jethro caught the lighter easily and moved the stuff before lighting the pit. The fire spread slowly and Jethro nudged it with a dry stick from the pile. Nodding as Irissa talked. Once the fire was going nicely he dropped the rock in, realizing that it would have been smarter to drop the rock in before lighting up, but then again, the fire mightnot have spread.
His finger got licked by a flame and he cursed quickly and brought his finger to his mouth and sucked on it. He stared down at the fire for a few moments before looking back at Iris. "Wanna go get me a pice of that branch over there?" He motioned towards a low lying green branch, although it was really skinny enough to be considered a stick.

"Uh, sure," she said when Jethro pulled his fingers from the fire. She frowned and got up from the campfire, only walking back a few steps to grasp the branch in her hands. It was surprisingly strong and didn't want to let go of the rest of the trunk. She splayed her feet apart and twisted the thing from the tree.
With a slight grunt, she managed to pull it free. She blew the hair from her eyes and sat cross-legged from Jethro again. "You going to use the sap for the burn?" she inquired as she held the stick over the fire.

Jethro grinned slightly as he saw her stuggle with the branch. He shook his head and tried not to laugh when she came back. "You going to use the sap for the burn?" she asked as he took the stick from her hand. He actually was planning on just usingthe sticks to flip the meat bu that worked too.
He nodded. "Smart kid." He said as he took the knife and cut off a small piece of the branch and wiped it on his finger before using his left hand to flip the meat over on the rock with the other stick. He was tempted to put the finger back in his mouthbut he knew it would probably taste bad on account of the sap.
He scratched at his wrist before noticing he still had the lighter. He picked it up and handed it to her before starting to speak. "So..." He started, trying to make some conversation to fill the awkwardness. "Why'd you come on the cruise?"

"That's what they tell me," she said with a roll of her eyes. She watched him work as he flipped the chunks of rabbit over on the stone. They were dry pieces because of the obivious lack of blood. She sighed and propped her elbows onto her legs and rested her head in her hands.
She was slightly shocked at his question and thought for a moment. She sighed and contemplated the possible things to tell him. In the end she settled with: "Everyone needs a vacation once in a while. So what about you, detective? Normal life bore you to the point where you wanted to get some sun?" Her stomach growled again as the smell of the food made its way to her nose.

Jethro's eye's went to the name on his wrist before quickly flying back up to Iris face. "Oh, You know." He said scratching at the tattoo uncomforatbly. "Just wanted some R & R. Get drunk, check out the girls in the bikini's." He added grinning rubbing the back of his neck. This had gotten awkward, he probably shouldn't have brought that up.
He turned his attention back to the meat and flipped it over once more before stabbing it with a stick before peering at it. It looked about done. "Wanna try it first." He asked turning back towards Iris, putting the stick with meat towards her mouth.

Iris' gaze flickered down to his wrist when his gaze did and she averted her eyes quickly. Though he did make her laugh when he said his comment; typical guy. She was naive enough to think that he really wanted to talk, not just to relieve the awkwardness he felt. "Well, a cruise was the right decision, wasnt it?" she chuckled. "Although I hung out on the deck with the pool a lot; i dont remember seeing you." She blinked when she realized she'd talked over his question, cheeks turning just the slightest red. She swept her hair in her face and angled her chin down to hide it. "And if it kills me, you'll be held responsible," she muttered as she snatched a twig that failed to catch fire from the campfire. She speared the meat and popped the slimy piece in her mouth, grimacing at the undeniable lack of flavor. She only tasted the texture. "What I wouldnt do for a nice sirloin right now," she grimaced.

Jethro smiled at her blush. He was probably drunk or rock climbing at the time. Or maybe he just happened to be checking out some other girl, he was sure if he'd saw her he'd remember her.
He watched as she took the rabbit smiling slightly at get comment. He waited for her reaction. "What I wouldnt do for a nice sirloin right now,"
At that Jethro laughed and stared at his own piece of meat. "Maybe a nice side of mashes potatoes, and gravy. Even some steamed vegetables, although I don't like that white broccoli stuff." he said as he put the rabbit in his mouth, grimacing at the taste. "What's that called again?"

'Stop, you're making me hungrier," she said in response as she bit into another chunk of meat. She made a strained 'Mmm' sound and luckily swallowed before Jethro's next statmenet. She licked her lips and held back a laugh. . "I used to call that albino broccoli. It's caulliflower (sp fail xD)," she chuckled. "That stuff /is/ nasty," she agreed. Deciding she was full, Iris set her stick down and put her palms in the sand. She didnt want to break this small bonding moment, or whatever it was, but she had to. "So tomorrow we should look at the different herbs, see if we can find another water source, and look at the animals around here." She sighed and gave a strained smile to Jethro. "I'll teach you about herbs so if something happens, well, youll know what youre doing." She blew out a soft breath and ran her fingers through her hair. . "Wouldnt it be just our luck to run into some albino borccoli?"

"I don't exactly know where the fantastic must-see places are," she said as she raised her fingers in a square to immitate a photographer. She turned in the sand to face Jethro and tapped her fingers against her knees. Honestly, she had no idea what people did when they were trapped on an abandoned island; she wasn't sure if Jethro still wanted to talk.
"We know next to nothing about each other and we'll be stuck here for a while so..." she ended and chewed her lip, not wanting Jethro to laugh at her nor was she sure she wanted to hear about his past. The name on his wrist ran through her mind.
