Dan nodded and slipped the shirt on, fetching the one he'd taken off back upstairs before going back into the living room.
He thought Paradise had seemed a little strange, and walked up to where she was sat with a slightly worried ex
pression on his face.
''Hey, are you okay? You seem a little... off.''
There was genuine concern in his voice, and he hoped she wasn't scared or anything.

I chuckled, not willing to let myself just blurt out again - like I was stupid enough to do before - how I felt. With a smile and a small shrug, I said, "For the most part, I'm fine."

He looked up at her, the worry still evident in his eyes.

I chuckled at his worry. I tried telling myself that this was just a friend, concerned about me, but how could I not let my heart leap? I definitely was in - over- my - head. "No, I just meant I was fine." I said with a nod. That was a tiny lie. I mean, I was practically in love with the guy, so technically, I never fully was alright.

Dan looked down for a moment, wondering if he should press her or just let it go. He wanted to know what was wrong, after all, but he didn't want to make her say it if she really didn't want to.
''Oh... Okay, then.'' He stood up, tilting his head to look at her a moment before smiling. She was probably just tired.
The reason she was tired reminded him of why she was there to begin with.
''Alright, I'm gonna start finding out about that new bird species, 'kay? You can have a nap or something if you want, it might take a while.''
Without waiting for a response, he walked into the kitchen and brought the laptop back with him to the living room, sitting down on a chair opposite Paradise.

I held my breath as Dan spoke, reminding me of what I had saw last night. Maybe a nap was a good idea. As he walked away, I lay across the sofa, and shutting my eyes. Well, I tried falling asleep, that is. But, I couldn't. Not with the feeling that I needed to know what I saw. I sighed, keeping my eyes closed just in case I was lucky enough to get some sleep.

[[Poor Dankay thinks she's asleeeep. ;C]] Opening up the laptop and starting up a search, he glanced over to Paradise, shaking his head and looking back down at the screen with a slightly pined ex
pression in his eyes.
It was his fault that she was so tired, his own selfish desires that made her scared.
''If only you knew...'' He said softly, speaking so quietly it would have been impossible to wake her with his voice- had she been asleep.
''... If only you could know.''
With that, he sighed, and started tryng to find out all he could again.

"If only you knew... If only you could know." I heard Dan's (*hot*) voice from the other room. What could he mean by that? Oh gosh, the things I was suspicious about before weren't just paranoia. I swallowed, and keeping my eyes closed, trying to think of what he meant.

She ain't asleep, she's gonna hafta listen t'more torturing words from Dan. ;C]] After a while Dan found a page he decided had information they could use. He was about to say something, when he glanced back over to Paradise and saw she was still *pretending to be* asleep.
A soft smile at his lips, he walked quietly up to his room and brought a light blanket back down with him, draping it over her shoulders just in case she got cold. He lingered at the side of the couch for a moment longer, sighing and saying something quietly before walking away.
''I guess you don't know how much you drive me crazy, either.'' He said, a slightly amused smile on his face as he sat back down where he had been before and decided to look for more information.

I was tempted to open my eyes the second everything was quiet. But I could hear his footsteps in his room, so I made sure to stay still. Before I knew it, I felt a blanket being put over me. I held back a smile - gosh, was he sweet or what? - but that wasn't what made me shocked. The words I heard him say forced me to flutter my eyes open for a fleeting second in surprise before immediately closing them. Did he just say... I sighed, trying to slow down my fast, beating heart. I couldn't hold back my smile this time, but I snuggled in the blanket to cover my face so he wouldn't see. Oh, was I dying to 'wake up' and talk to him. What he had said... It changes everything. I bit my lip, feeling giddy, but making sure to hide this reaction under the blanket.

[[Dun worry 'bout it, pet. <3]] Dan smiled when he saw Paradise snuggling into the blanket, thinking she must have been colder than she looked. Oh, and a few thoughts of how cute she looked like that, but he did his best to force them out of his mind.
After that little break was over, he began researching thoroughly again, reading through page after page of stories- mostly from nutters- about the dragon/bird/monster living in the area. Truth be told, very little of it was actually useful. It was enough, though.

Now that what I heard had sunk in, my doubts decided to come to my mind as well. What if I was reading this, all wrong? Maybe he was on the phone with some other girl? Video chatting? Practicing for someone else? All were of course not true, but I was trying to figure out why he would say that, if it wasn't for the reason that I thought it was. Maybe I should just pretend to wake up or something. Maybe try coming out with the truth again and see what he says. But, anytime I tried pulling the blanket off, I couldn't. Knowing what happened last time I put my heart on my sleeve, just put more walls around me.

Dan kept researching for some time, trying to find anything he could to put Paradise's mind at ease. Before he knew it, he felt his eyelids start to droop, and tried his best to stay awake.
Paradise was here, and if she found out... Then again, what difference could a little nap do? He wouldn't even stay asleep long enough for the his eyes to change, let alone the tail to grow in.
Still, his nights without sleep were apparently catching up with him, because he found he slept longer than first anticipated.
In fact, by the time he was deep in sleep with the laptop open on his lap, a long, whip-like tail had sprouted from the base of his spine, trailing out over the arm of the chair, the tapering tip even touching the floor.
Well now. I should... Probably put something intelligent here. At some point. Eventually.
