"I err, sort of cleaned up. Um, Miss. Craylin, the guidance counselor, gave me a note. She was hoping maybe you could show me around. It's okay if you don't want to," she had said, keeping her eyes on the table instead of him.
Sethera cocked his head and took the note she had in her outstretch hand. His finger brushed faintly against her skin, shooting something like lightning down his arm. It felt... strange. And he got a strange kind of pleasure from it. Oh god, he was so weird. Though, he did pull back as to not seem odd and glanced at the note. True enough, Miss Craylin's signature confirmed her words.
He would also be excused from his next to classes. Pupils constricted and eyes narrowed slightly. But he was so looking forward to his Art Class. With a sigh, he closed the yellow orbs and folded the note.
"Alrighty then. Lunch last's another five minutes still. And I don't know your name. In fact, I haven't introduced myself at all!" Sethera said, eyes open and wide. Oh such a simple task and he failed to do that. Stupid, stupid him. All too focused on other people's hidden emotions to worry about small things like that.
"I'm Sethera Fero," he said with a faint smile.

It had taken a lot for Knox to keep still when the boy accidentally touched her fingers. His skin was warm, really warm and underneath that human skin, she'd felt an aura. Knox tried not to touch people. Being half of what her mother is, she had the uncanny talent for being able to sense the auras of others. Those auras as she called them were nothing more than a person's connection to nature. It showed little things about them but Knox had always been too scared to delve a little further than what a flitting touch could bring. There are all sorts of people hiding behind gentle faces, not all of them good.
But Sethera; his aura burned lavender and green, stronger than a lot of others she'd ever seen (though that had been far and few). Only her mother and father had such strong auras. Huh. Knox then realized she was still standing there staring at the table and that he'd just said his name.
"Sethera," she repeated. "I'm...Knox." He'd said a last name. Knox didn't know which last name her parents had given her so she could come to school. It was probably under her father's..."Antius. Knox Antius. Strange I know, but blame my family," she said with a lighthearted shrug. Finally, you got something normal to come out of your mouth.
Knox's eyes flickered up to the tree. She squinted and leaned forward a little bit so her view wasn't constricted by a branch...there! Her eyes widened as she slid into the bench yet again and she looked back at Sethera. "You don't get many bats up here, do you?" she asked anxiously.

He furrowed his brows and thought about that one. Bats? Well that's a strange subject changer. But... Sethera shook his head. "Not really. But don't they come out at night? Its the middle of the day," he said, scratching his black and white streaked hair in slight confusion.
Though, her emotions were as anxious as her voice. Which made him pause. If only slightly. "Are you scared of bats or something?" he asked. He hated doing that since he kinda forced her into a corner with that question.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his head before it moved around, ruffling his hair. A rumble of laughter followed when Sethera attempted escape the hand. "Jeez, Seth," the voice said and Sethera turned out in his seat to shove at his cousin.
"Don't touch my hair, Zakeru," Sethera said, giving his cousin a rather nasty glare. But the older male shrugged it off with a smile and a laugh. His orange eyes bright with amusement. "Done with your smoke?" Zakeru nodded. "Then sit and be quiet."
The other male dutifully sat and leaned against the table, but kept his mouth shut. Though his eyes sparkled with mischief.

"They're supposed to at least," Knox grumbled under her breath. She snuck another glance at the tree to find that the creature was hanging upside down off one of the branches. Red beady eyes stared right at their table and Knox tried and failed to suppress a shudder. It has to be one of Dad's familiars. Beau hates being a bat and he doesn't have red eyes like that when he shifts. As a second thought, she added, I wish Beau would just eat it.
Knox's thoughts were interrupted when Sethera's cousin showed up again. Zakeru. The pair held some strange names though when Knox looked at them, she found they fit almost perfectly. The similarities between the two were surprising considering they were just cousins.
Knox raised one brow at the banter between the two. When she went to look at Zakeru, she glanced into his eyes. Nothing happened. Relief swept through her, soothing and calm. At least some things were back to normal. A small voice in the back of her head told her that she shouldn't feel relieved yet; after all, it had been Sethera's eyes that had made her blood pound.
Something furry rubbed up against Knox's leg. She leaned back and peered under the table. A silver-furred cat jumped into her lap and Knox patted its head. When it looked up at her with hazel eyes that held a ring of amber around the iris, Knox tensed up. "Beau?" She tilted her head to the side and looked back upward at the two males. "I think my cat followed me from home."
Beau smirked beneath her.

"Neko?" Zakeru asked, tilting his head to look at the silver furred feline. His orange eyes blinked as he reached one hand across the table for the cat to smell it. Cats were always his favourite creatures. Couldn't tell it what to do. Just like Sethera's and his older cousin. Erishi will never be herded one way or another. It has to be her idea.
Sethera watched the cat. He glanced over at his cousin. "Yes, its a cat. What else would it be? A dog?" he said pushing his cousin over a bit.
Zakeru managed to snort. "Īe seikōmasenga, hontōdesuka? Watashi wa sore ga inuda to omotta," he responded in Japanese. Much to Sethera's disdain since the yellow-eyed boy didn't know any Japanese.
So he just rolled his eyes.
"I know that pets aren't allowed on school property, but it wouldn't hurt to have a kitty-friend for a few more minutes," Sethera said as an after thought.

"Did ya here that, Beau? You've got to go," Knox said. She tried to push the shapeshifter off of her, but he ducked under her arm and stood up on his hind paws to bat her in the face with his paws. His claws were sheathed though so Knox only narrowed her eyes at the shifter. He hesitated there for a moment; Knox really couldn't be mad at him. Heck, he was probably worrying his tail off just watching her mess up all the time. Still, this wasn't normal. He was going to have to trust her.
Speaking of trust, her father had some explaining to do. "Look kitty kitty, go chase that bat over there," Knox said and pointed to the tree. Beau's tail curled as he whipped his shaggy head around, ears perking. When his eyes locked with the bat's, the flying mammal let go of the branch it was on and took off into the trees.
Beau nimbly leapt up onto the tabletop and carefully stepped in front of Sethera. He cocked his head to the side, yawned, and then took off running after the bat.
"Cat will chase anything that moves," Knox said and scratched the back of her head. The bell for class sounded just then and she jumped in surprise. Kids that hadn't finished eating rushed to fork the food into their mouths, while others picked up their bags and lazily walked to their next class period. Knox longed to join all of them but she'd already decided that after today, she wouldn't be coming back to school. She would tell her parents she couldn't do it after all. They would be overjoyed.
Frowning, Knox looked back at Sethera. "Uh, I guess we should go then?"
It was only a matter of time before Sethera noticed something was up and started asking questions.
Ooc; Lol at the two of them. xD

Sethera could feel the mind of the cat as he stopped before him. Worry clouded it before the cat bounded off after the bat. He cocked his head to one side, not really noticing the bell as it rang. But he did feel Zakeru slap him on the back.
"Well, cousin. Time for class," the male said, standing up.
Sethera shook his head. "Got the next to periods off. Thanks to Miss Craylin," he said as he stood as well. At Zakeru's envious look, the boy only shrugged. "She wants me to show Knox the campus. I'm missing my Art class... So don't feel bumped about coming in late this morning and missing your Shop class," Sethera retorted.
Zakeru shook his head and smiled. "Don't get crazy," he said before nodding a goodbye to Knox as he headed off towards his next class.
Sethera just shook his head before turning towards Knox. He could ask her later. "Sure. What do you want to see first?"

"Sure. What do you want to see first?" Knox rounded her gray eyes on his, forgetting that she wasn't supposed to look into Sethera's yellow eyes. For a minute she thought she was safe, that it had just been some freak thing before, but her eyes widened as pain thrummed down her throat. Her pulse slowed and beat harshly in her ears, gray eyes speckling with red again. Knox found herself leaning forward, the ripe smell of something delectable nearby, before she realized somewhat of what was happening and wrenched herself away.
Knox stumbled backward and tripped over one of the benches. She ultimately lost her footing and landed hard on her as s. She forced her red eyes to close as she swallowed past the dry lump in her throat. Her tongue felt thick and fuzzy and Knox felt her face go pale and turn clammy.
Many obscenities ran through her mind. She brought her arm up against her mouth and gave a dry, hacking cough. Placing one hand on the bench seat she'd tripped over, Knox managed to push herself to her feet. She swayed on the spot for a few moments, then gained her ground and opened her gray eyes.
"I think I might be coming down with something. You know, I could just head home or something. Really. Right now," she said. Her eyes turned glassy and she turned her head away to sniffle. Going to feel sorry for yourself and cry? Really? she asked herself. "Guess you get to go to art class after all," she said with a smile.

Sethera watched with uncertainty as Knox leaned forward, towards him. Her gray eyes flecking with crimson. His yellow eyes widened with curiosity. What the... what!? Okay. Normal eyes did not do that. Ever! But when she backed up and stumbled over a table bench, he couldn't help the amusement that flickered in his cat-yellow eyes or the small Pffft of laughter that followed.
But he managed to get himself together long enough to say, "No your not. Come on. Stuff like that happens to people all the time." Not the red flecks, but...
"And if Miss Craylin says to. Miss Craylin means it. She usually gets her way when it comes to showing new students around," he said, cocking his head to one side as he headed towards the stables. "I'll show you the horses first."
He wasn't going to back down now. And he was going to save his questions.

"No you're not. Come on. Stuff like that happens to people all the time." Knox actually laughed when Sethera said that. She lifted her gaze up, settling her sight on the bridge of his nose. I guess it's okay...since he insists. As long as I don't look into his eyes; I'll have to ask dad about that later. No doubt it's from him...Knox tilted her head to the side, excitement making her push herself to her feet. "You have horses here?"
Knox's mother used to own a ranch. This was when Knox was around four, a year before the first time her family had had to relocate. Her mother had taught her how to ride the horses bareback, how to open her mind to them and let them know that Knox was to be trusted. She'd caught on very quickly, of course, being half part of nature itself. Most animals like Knox and the horses were no exception. She would spend hours out in the pastures petting the horses, allowing them to carry her around along the border of the fence.
That was one of the houses she missed the most.
"I'd really like to see them is what I mean. My mom used to own a few horses," she said.

Sethera smiled somewhat. "Really? We have a whole stable here since Equestrian class is a mandatory extra. Its so weird, really," he said with a shrug. But it allowed the students to go out an enjoy the fresh air, like lunch and archery class.
"But to get to the stables from here, we have to cut through the school," he added, rubbing the back of his neck as he lead her to the door and opened it, gesturing for her to go in first. He was always one for manners, no matter how much Zakeru and Erishi teased him about it.

"Oh, alright," Knox said. A blush touched her cheeks when Sethera held the door out for her. It was such a nice gesture and people didn't usually do nice things for Knox. The only people she was really close to were...well was Beau. Her parents were usually too busy tugging for her to choose a side to really bother about being sweet to her. Not that she cared anyway. Knox had always sort of been a loner.
"Hey so, sorry if I'm a little weird or...yeah, weird. It's kind of overwhelming being here. I've always been home schooled," she said. Not really an entire lie, but she knew her voice gave way to the fact that there was more she wasn't saying. Sethera hadn't asked any questions yet though, so she figured he wouldn't start now.

Sethera cocked his head. "Its fine, really. Everybody is a little weird in their own way. Zakeru is one step side of insane. So are his little brothers," the male said with a faint grin as he followed Knox into the school before he led her down two side halls and out another door.
"So... Do you have any siblings?" he asked, tilting his head to rest his yellow-eyed gaze on her.

Okay, so maybe she'd been wrong about the whole questions thing. At least it wasn't something along the lines of "So why do your eyes change color?" or "How come every time you look at me you seem to freak out a little bit?" Yep, this question was definitely a lot better than that. Although, Knox would feel a little safer if she got him talking about himself, instead of the other way around. She was so nervous she might slip again.
"Nope. I'm an only child. I've always had Beau though, so I was never terribly lonely." It was true. Knox had never really known what she was missing. It wasn't like she could really open herself up to a human anyway. People were afraid of supernaturals in this world, even if most of them were kept hidden and unheard of. The myths still lived and those even frightened people. Thinking of a few myths about her father's kind, Knox grinned and shook her head.
"What about you? Siblings? You and Zakeru seem pretty close," she said.

Well that sucked. And was kinda cool at the same time. Sucked because siblings were kind of around and cool since you didn't have to share anything with anybody. Kind of. You still had to be nice to people.
"Beau is you cat, right?" he asked. "And I don't have siblings. Zakeru is just my cousin. But I live with his family since both my parents died of some kind of sickness. Doctors didn't know what it was." Sethera shrugged slightly. He had since gotten over his parent's deaths, but he still misses them from time to time.

"My cat?" Knox echoed. Oh wait. Sethera had seen a silver furred tom earlier. Of course that's what he was referring to. "Yes. He was the cat from before." She felt her cheeks turn a little red and they died down only when Sethera explained his history. Knox looked down at the ground, trying to imagine herself living with her uncles and aunts. Not only did her father's side scare the living daylight out of her, she just couldn't imagine life without her parents.
"I'm so sorry," Knox said to him. She looked up at the ceiling and spoke again. "My parents fight a lot with each other about me but I don't know what I would do without them." She paused, scratched her arm. "You're strong," she commented, even if it might sound weird to him.

Sethera shrugged one shoulder when he heard her apologize about his parents. He knew it wasn't her fault. Just some strange virus the men in whitecoats couldn't quite name. Though, he blushed when she said he was strong.
He wasn't in the least. He used Zakeru as a crutch and his older cousin knew that, but didn't say anything about it.
Then, he stopped walking when they reached the head of the stables. Nickers, whinnies, neighs, whickers, and snorts could be heard from inside as the horses talked with each other in their own horsey language.
"Well, here we are," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. His cheeks were still flushed.

Knox was about to comment on the pinkish tinge to Sethera's cheeks when he announced they had arrived at the stables. She had been so engrossed in their conversation that she hadn't even heard the sounds of the horses. When it was brought to her attention though, she snapped her head up and stopped mid-stride. The wild essence of the beasts she was so connected with washed over her and Knox almost swayed on the spot.
No one would have been able to stop that girl from reaching those horses. She broke into a jog, then followed shortly after to a run. When she hit the entrance to the stables, yellow straw sifted beneath her feet. The snorts and all other sounds stopped as soon as she set foot within the actual stables. Every horse head swung her way and not knowing horses didn't respond like this to everyone, Knox saw nothing wrong.
She reached out one hand to the closest horse, a speckled gray and white stallion. He pressed his long snout through the open window of his stall, nostrils flaring as Knox let her palm rest against his nose. He nuzzled her hand as if looking for treats and upon seeing she had none, he picked his head up and blew on her face. Knox grinned and kissed the male horse on his nose, moving her hands up to gently caress his neck.
As she showered this one with attention, Knox was still unaware that all the others had stopped to stare. How's that for incognito?
