Maeve groaned aloud as she watched the humans pass in the night. She was so hungry that she was salivating, but unlike most vampires, she could control herself. As a vampire as old as her, nearly 700 years of age already, Mae knew she had to wait for the right moment, or else they would come. Mae's whole, tall, athletic body shivered at the thought of the vampire hunters. She shook her head, getting her dark maroon curls to sweep on her pale cheeks and button nose.
Mae hated the hunters. It's not as if she made her victims die a horrible death. In fact, from certain bacteria in her saliva, her bites were actually quite pleasurable for the human, and herself as well. Of course, she had to kill the humans after she had bit them, otherwise they would try and follow her... Something she couldn't handle. They couldn't know she was a vampire. The last human she left alive sent a hunter after her. Damn humans.
Maeve grinned a wicked smile as a drunk man stumbled out of the tavern. They were the easiest to lure in the woods and drain. Mae slipped the well-used black cloak over her mass of red hair and followed the man. She glanced around, looking for others watching. There were none. She grabbed the man's arm and quickly bit his hand, barely hard enough to draw blood. Mae licked the wound and dropped his arm, watching his eyes glaze over. With a satisfied smile, the vampire walked to the woods, the man following her like a lost puppy. She silently wished that hunters were this easily to overcome, but, unfortunately, her saliva didn't work on the hunters. It was as if they made a deal with God to reverse the effects of her poison from the devil. But, as long as Mae had lived, God and Lucifer were not on her priority list. She didn't believe in either, and never had.

A smirk stretched my lips as the vampire lay on the ground, helpless. I had tracked him down for days now, and finally had my chance to rid the world of another monster. Searching my pockets, I found my matches, and lit one.
"Good night, Vampire."
I said lowly, before throwing the match on the vampire. The fire easily kicked up speed and spread throughout the screaming vampire's body. Lighting a couple more matches, and putting them in the fire, the fire grew and grew and grew. I smirked, leaving the monster in his grave as I walked out of the wood.

Maeve was so into her feeding, she nearly missed the tortured screams from far away, though not far enough. She knew that scream well, and it made her shiver in her tracks. Dropping the human with a heavy 'thud', the vampire listened more intently, trying to pin point the direction of the noise. West, and too close for comfort.
Mae looked down at the body below her, gurgling and choking on his own blood. Disgusted, the girl pushed his bloody body off of her. She despised her food, and she wished that surviving off of animal blood was a possibility. Unfortunately, it wasn't.
The decision to help the burning vampire came as Maeve as she exited the woods, pulling her hood up. She headed West, avoiding the humans as they came. When she was close, the vampire paused. One of them still lingered, probably making sure its victim died. She crinkled her nose in disgust. Damn hunters couldn't just leave her kind to peace, could they?

Does this mean when Travis exits the wood, he'll see Mae? o-o

I think Mae was just smelled his scent near the woods. He could see her or not, as she's hidden underneath her cloak and everything, but she is riding close to the trees, so it's possible that he catches her on the way out.

The screams had started to slow, and soon diminished to nothing as I exited the wood. Just as I got through a bush that separated two trees, I saw someone farther ahead with a cloak. I lifted an eyebrow, they were only a few feet from me, so they probably heard me by now.
"What are you doing out so late?"
I said, keeping my tone friendly so that I wouldn't make the person think I was trying to creep on them. All traces of being a hunter vanished, all weapons were hidden under my shirt, in my boot... Anywhere, but on the outward side of my clothes. I just looked like any normal villager around this kingdom.

Maeve paused as the hunter not only exited the woods near her, but stopped to talk to her as well. Clearly, he couldn't tell what she was at this moment. Her life depended on whether she was wrong or not. If he was pretending, and she stayed, the vampire could kiss her life goodbye. If he honestly didn't know what she was, she could possibly escape with her life in tact.
"Sir, forgive me," Mae said, her voice soft. Her tone had a calming quality to it, like she'll always been genuine in what she says. For the most part, she tries to be. "My master heard noises in the forest... He sent me to investigate." The girl kept her head down, not wanting to look the hunter in the eyes. |

So, should he try to chase her down, maybe we could make the forest like the dark forest and they get lost in there together so he can't just kill her and be stuck in there himself. So they have this big adventure in the dark forest~
