Mae watched with a bemused as the man backed away. Her eyes landed on an odd colored rock which he was about to collide with. Nope, it moved out of the way in time. Wait. What? The vampire's eyes widened as the large boulder came to life. It was... it couldn't be. No way, she refused to beli- oh crap.
Wordlessly, Mae jumped in front of Travis, successfully taking the Troll's attention away from him. She glared at the large beast. It was at least 20 of her, its strength multiplied by the same amount. She was nothing compared to this beast. Yet, despite its size, the vampire could sense that it didn't plan on hurting them. Unless they didn't comply, that is.
"You have no right being in my forest."
Maeve stared at the beast with a mixture of fear and amazement. This creature was the guardian of the forest. She had heard stories of it before, but never imagined she would meet it. What could it want?
"You."
Mae knew the guardian was talking to her. She looked up at him, or her, she didn't know, and bowed in respect.
"I know of what you are. You have lived a long time. People fear you. My beloved forest fears you." It paused. "I want you out. But first, you must go on a quest. No one leaves my forest before they prove their worth."
Maeve was distraught. They were stuck in there? Until they finished the Guardian's quest. This could be bad. This could be very, very bad. "Guardian, tell us what we must do."
"You must retrieve an ob
ject from the heart of the forest. It lies in the Fairy Realm. You will know the place when you are there. What you seek is a medallion. I cannot tell you more. You must learn of the destination during the journey."
With that, the Guardian Troll thing went back into its peaceful slumber. Mae looked at it with disbelief. What in the hell just happened? Was she going crazy? Hell. She didn't know.
"Uh."

The second the vampire came in front of me, I knew something was wrong. I was guessing it was more poison from the dark forest, that she could easily scare away. But as I saw the creature come to it's full height, my instinct was to grab my first weapon.
I cursed the vampire for taking the weapons I had.
I had stepped a couple strides. The Dark Forest in its whole is feared by the whole village. But no member of the village would want to run into the guardian of the forest. I clenched my jaw as he said that people feared the vampire. I had no space for fear of the girl. Only hatred. I kept my mouth shut.
As the creature went back to it's slumber, my fists clenched. "Great."
I muttered, running a hand through my black hair. If I had known I'd be stuck with a vampire in this forest for some great adventure I wouldn't have gone in, whether or not my father would be disappointed.
"What now? We just go find this medallion just to get out of here?"
Sooner or later this monster would get hungry. I refused to be her source. The thought made me realize I could get hungry too. And everything in this forest was dead, along with me. I scowled at her before looking deeper in the forest. I answered my own question.
"Well. I guess that's the only way out of here."
I muttered before starting on the trail, ignoring the slight limp from hurting my ankle before. Wishing somehow this nightmare would disappear.

Maeve couldn't help but roll her eyes at the human. So impatient, so ignorant, so... damn stupid for being a hunter. Where were his instincts? Apparently missing, since he was headed the wrong way. There was no trail, at all, to the Fairy Realm. So, it was pointless to start on one. Mae rubbed her temples, trying to not become extremely annoyed at the boy.
"Travis. Will you please stop to think for a minute?" The annoyance was evident in her voice. "We can't just 'find' this medallion. It has to find us. This isn't a journey to get some damn artifact. The Guardian doesn't just want the necklace for some weekend night with his betrothed. Okay?"
Maeve let out a shaky sigh, then looked upwards towards the sky. A raven flying South caught her attention. The vampire smiled at the bird. Ravens were a good sign. They were smart, creatures of the gods, her gods, anyways, and they were rumored to be the protectors of one's fate.
"We follow the Raven." |

I rolled my eyes back at the vampire at her annoyance. I must say I was proud I didn't know the information she knew. Probably only things that resembled demons would know the way around here.
But, once again, I chose to keep my mouth shut. I didn't feel like arguing with the one... Thing that knew it's way around here.
"Fine."
I said with a deep scowl, looking up with both hands on my hips before my eyes caught sight of the bird, and turned in it's direction instead. "How'd you know that, anyways?"
I said, green eyes looking back at her as I waited for her to walk too. Wouldn't want to go the wrong way again or I'd get attitude.

Mae grumbled some choice words not audible to the human ear. As eager as she was to get this over with, and him out of the forest and off her case, she knew it wasn't going to be just that easy. Out of all the horrid beasts in the Dark Forest, they encounter the Guardian. What the hell was that?
Mae stared at Travis like he was a child, though compared to her, he was. He wouldn't believe her if she told the truth anyways. For centuries, Mae had been following the ravens. Call it stupid, if you will, but they were her Northern Star. Some would call them vile creatures, but they were just the opposite to the vampire.
"The Ravens are my beacon of light, Travis." Mae said simply, easily catching up to him as she followed the raven's path. She didn't even give him a side glance as she reached him, walking only a few steps ahead of him. She didn't want him to get lost. |
