Maeve rolled her eyes at Travis' comment. He guessed? See if it works? Hah. That was a laugh. If there was anything that the vampire trusted, it was her gut instinct. And her gut instinct was to follow the Ravens. Granted, if she didn't have good instinct, she would have followed the ravens anyways. It was what her father, a long time ago, had taught her.
Mae suddenly stopped, holding her hand up for Travis to do the same. She turned her head to the side slightly, pressing her finger to her lips, motioning for the hunter to be silent. She heard something.... Something much to close for comfort.
Then, they were there. Three of them. Vampires. And, from their scent, fledglings. Mae looked the three over, eyes turning to slits. The one in front was the eldest, though still young. Their clothing was ripped, tattered. The vampire guessed that the forest had gotten them... Meaning they weren't very powerful.
Mae held in a snarl as the leader, presumably, inhaled deeply, catching Travis' scent. The hunter's scent was irresistible, that was true, even for a vampire of her age. These younglings, barely a century, would find him... Well, she'd rather not go there.
"A hunter and a vampire, working together? How original."
Mae growled at the man who had spoken, sizing him up. He was probably only 5'8", though he had a solid build. The other one behind him topped a few inches above six foot, though he was scrawny. Looked as if the wind could sweep him away. And the third? A child. Boy, no older than 8. He looked terrified.
"What do you want from us, children?"
The solidly built one glared at Mae, making his discomfort with the word 'children' obvious.
"We seek a medallion. One for the Guardian of the Forest. And, pray tell, what are you doing here?"
Mae hid her reaction well. So, the guardian had decided to test their intelligence as well, has he not? But, these half wits would never find the medallion, that much was clear. Dim-witted bunch of idiots, they were.
"Well, before we go separate ways, I have a request. Give me the boy, and I won't kill you."
The leader seemed quite taken aback by this. He turned his head to the frightened child at his side. Well, he was such a bother... So young, barely weeks old in his vampire life. He was of no use to him. Without another word, the vampire grabbed the child by the neck and thrust him forward.
Mae grabbed the boy's wrist, with a tender grasp, and pulled the shaking boy to her side, the one further from Travis. Mae turned her body slightly, as if to make her leave. She suddenly turned back, baring her teeth at the other vampires.
"And if you ever even look at this human again," She snarled, referring to Travis, "I'll tear you apart with my bare hands and let him burn your remains to ash."
Well. That got her point across just fine. The other vampire looked at her, not doubting a word she had said. The red hair, petite figure, and motherly gestures towards the boy... There was only one like her kind. And it had to be Maeve. She had certainly made her mark over the years. Her mark had made quite a few enemies as well.
"Travis. Walk."
