Cay cocked an eyebrow, and was just about to check for another door when Jeb kicked open the door. He sighed, walking after him and fingering the knife on his belt. Oh, he'd catch him pretty soon. No sense in wasting his own energy.

Adair looked over his shoulder and gasped, and he grabbed a knife out of the sink, hurrying out of the kitchen and dodging random obstacles. Oh, if only he had gone into track like his father had wanted him to. He was fast already, but maybe with some training, he could've been faster.

     Jeb closed in on Adair, his finger almost touching him. He wasn't the fastest guy and he was maybe a little bit overweight so he started to breath harder. D,amn it. I should be running more. This is pathetic. He grunted and swiped at the boys with his hands.

     Suddenly, a startling shriek sounded in the house and Mollie ran full speed out of a dark room and headed straight for Cay's back. Before he could even turn around, she threw herself onto his back and wrapped her thin arm around his throat. Mollie had him in a choke hold.

Adair squeaked, ducking down whenever Jeb's hands came near him. He ran upstairs, hoping that the male wouldn't be fast enough to reach upstairs fast enough to catch the door. Adair slammed the door closed behind him, locking the door quickly, and slid out the window, hopping off the roof. Again, he squeaked, and he glanced around. Where was Mollie? Oh, yeah, she was supposed to be at a neighbor's house.

Cay only grit his teeth when Mollie got him in a choke hold. She wasn't that strong, so it wasn't that hard for him to breathe. The only problem was, he couldn't exactly peel her off.

     Jeb was so close to grabbing the boy. His fingers clenched in the air inches from getting a grip on him. The he heard Mollie and turned to see her on his partner's back. "What the-?"

     Mollie held on, trying to squeeze Cay's neck harder. "Run, Adair!" Her eyes watered, tears spilling down her face, and she twisted her legs around the man's stomach.

Was that Mollie's voice he'd just heard? He'd also heard his name, so... Of course, it was Mollie! "Sh.it!" Adair hissed, and he ran inside the house again, completely ignoring Jeb. He stopped in front of Cay, who was still trying to get Mollie off his back, and then he shoved his kitchen knife into his arm. The man cried out, and Adair pulled Mollie off of his back, running up to her room again and locking the door.

     Mollie gasped as Adair stabbed the man and then pulled her into her room, locking it behind them. It was dark inside and Mollie's breath came out ragged from running. "Oh, my gosh, Adair! I'm so glad you're okay!" She wrapped her arms around him and squeezed.

     "Oh sh,it." Jeb came to stand beside Cay and looked at his arm. Blood was running down his shirt and onto the floor. "What do you want me to do?"

Adair hugged her back, but only for a moment. Then, he pushed her away and frowned at her. "I thought I told you to go get help. Instead, you tackle one of those crooks?" He tried to be mad at her, but it was hard. It was impossible to stay mad at your best friend for long, especially when they'd just jumped on the back of a crook to save you.

Cay glared at him. "Go get those kids," he snarled, yanking out the knife. He took a random strip of cloth and wrapping it tightly around his arm, wincing slightly as he did. "Save the boy for me," he added.

     "I-I...," Mollie looked up at him, fat tears rolling down her face, and sniffled. "I couldn't do it, Adair. I couldn't leave you." She quickly turned away from him, wiping her face, when she caught sight of her computer desk. Looking from the door and then back to the desk she said, "Help me move it in front of the door!"

     Jeb smiled wickedly. "Will do." He ran up the stairs and looked around at all the doors. Which one? There are so many! He moved slowly towards a door on his right and flung the door open. Da,mn it. It was a pink bathroom. He turned to study the rest of the doors.

Adair sighed, then walked over to the computer desk. He pulled it over in front of the door, then turned around to face Mollie. "You should've left me, Mollie. I'm still alive, aren't I?" he asked softly, walking over and pulling her close. He flinched when he heard a door hit a wall, figuring that one of those men was looking for them. "Let's go out the window," he whispered, pulling Mollie over to it.

     Mollie nodded quickly and stepped toward the window only to stumble over her hair straighteners cord. A loud crash sounded in the room as the straightener clattered to the floor. "Oh, no," she whispered.

     Jeb heard a loud noise from the room across from the bathroom and jumped for the door. He pushed the knob but for some reason it only opened a crack. They pushed something in front of the dam,ned door again. Anger surged through the man and he began to ram the door, moving the desk away little by little.

Adair smacked his hand to his forehead, then grabbed Mollie's hand, and he almost threw her out the window. "Just get out, Mollie!" he hissed, taking a glance over his shoulder almost every second. "He'll kill us both if he gets through that door!" With that, he scrambled over to the door, slamming his hip against the computer desk. Then, he added a chair to the pile.

     A snap rang through the room and Jeb screamed. Adair had smashed two of his fingers in the door and they were bent at odd angles. The man pulled his hand free from the door and cradled it against his chest, the pain excruciating.

     Mollie stepped carefully out onto the roof and looked back at Adair. "Okay, come on!" She edged her way along the side of the house to make room for him and took a deep breath. Okay. All we have to do now is jump down and make a run for the neighbors house. That's all. That's it.

Adair flinched at the scream, and he wondered what he'd done to that man to make him scream like that. Whatever he'd done, he was glad it hurt. "I'm coming, Mollie!" Adair said, hurrying over to the window. He perched on the edge of the windowsill, waiting for Mollie to go a little further, so he'd have room to move.

     Mollie took a breath and nodded,trying not to look down. "I'm okay. I just want to get out of here.." She looked out to the front gate of her yard and wondered how they were going to get down. Her front yard was quite big and it would take them about ten minutes just to make it to the gate. "Adair, how will we get down?"

"Jump off," Adair breathed, and with that, he hopped off, landing on the ground with a soft thump. He let out a tiny squeak when he did, as his feet has absorbed the shock of the jump, making him stumble. "I'll catch you, if you'd like," he called, holding his arms out.

     Mollie hesitated. "I-I can't. I'm too scared." Again, the girl began to shake. It was a long way down and she squeezed her eyes shut, tears trailing down her face. She looked down at Adair and began to scoot to the edge of the roof. I need to stop being such a baby and just jump.

     At that moment, Jeb burst through the door to Mollie's bedroom, his face red with rage. He quickly looked around and seen the window was open. With two great strides he was at the window with his head stuck out, looking down at Mollie. He let out a roar of anger and began to climb out.
