The girl stuck out her tongue. "Ewwww." He laughed and nodded to the elf, before he continued to laugh. It was the first real laugh he had ever had. "Brother, you're laughing." The girl said giggling. "You never do that." She smiled at him before looking to the elf. "I'll drink it, pretty lady, if it mean I get better and if will make my brother laugh more."

I smiled a little at the demon's laugh. It was a different laugh than the one I was used to, but it was still a beautiful laugh. I passed the cup to him, still unsure if he really wanted to do this. "This isn't going to turn out well." I muttered to myself. I've had to drink that one or two times, and I almost had it come back up. And that was saying something, given my strong stomach.

Azroth took it and held it for his sister who slowly sipped at it, her face scrunched at the taste. Once she finished she leaned against her brother, half asleep. "It's nasty." She said. He grinned.
"I know, but you finished it like a big girl." She smiled and was soon asleep. It was her bodies way to try to keep the mixture down.

"You have a nice sister, there, boy." I said to the demon. I knew he was older than I was, but I didn't care. He was still a boy. To me. To my Queen. I leaned against a tree outside of the lean-to, enjoying the rain to the full extent. It soaked my long braided hair, making it appear almost black. I felt it in between my bare toes as I dug them into the earth.

"Yeah..." He looked down at her and gently laid her down, getting up and grabbing a blanket from his horse. He then laid the blanket over her, before walking back out into the rain. He stood in the middle of the small clearing and looked up at the sky, his eye closed. He always had enjoyed rain. To him it was peaceful. It was as if something had saddened the earth so it was its way to wash that sadness away. A small, almost imperceptible, smile formed on his lips.

"Damn it! Get out of the rain, boy! it is acid!" I shouted furious with him. "If you die from it, your sister will be all alone. Are you going to let that much sorrow be placed on her shoulders for rain?!"

He sighed. "How many times do I have to tell you, not to worry? It doesn't affect me in the way you would think. It is practically like normal rain with a hint of a sting as if i was being hit with hail, nothing more." He gave a small chuckle then as he continued to stare at the sky. "It's so peaceful." He said out loud without realizing it.

I stared in surprise for a moment, then let out a sigh. "Yes, it is. Look, I'm sorry I snapped at you like that. It's just I know what it is like to be left alone in the world; no mother, no father, no brother." I said, remembering little pictures of my brother's face before he died. Then, for some reason, I pictured Garret's face and a feeling of despair came over me. I tried to control it, but a tear fell from my eye and into my shirt. My shirt absorbed it before it could fall onto my bare stomach. Another fell, then another. I felt my throat constrict at the thought of never seeing him again. Why was I doing this? I had never cried in my whole life, not even when my brother died. I felt my breath taken away and my knees buckle, bringing me down onto the wet earth.

He noticed her cry. He walked over and knelt down next to her, before taking her into his arms and held her close.

I had never felt like this in my life. I didn't resist the Demon; I let him come near me, even let him touch me. I know his kind was the ones who killed my parents, which made it even worse to have him here. Why was I doing this? Why didn't I just leave and make him die? His kind murdered the two people that could have made my life better. Why shouldn't he pay for that? He was here, at my will.
"Why are you doing this?" I managed to choke out. I leaned back into his arms, letting him comfort me. I let my head fall back slightly, my eyes looking into his. It was that moment when all my questions were answered. Because he wasn't like them. He cared, no matter who it was; or what it was.

He gave an ever feint smile. "Because you need someone to be there for you...Someone who will listen and help you out. No one should ever be alone, no matter who they are." His one good eye should his pain and his kindness, though his face showed nothing, save for that barely noticeable smile. "I have a feeling you've been there for others, but no one, save for that man earlier, has ever shown that kindness back. I could be wrong, if so let me know, but that is what I feel when I look at you."

I smiled lightly up at him. "Of course your right." I murmured. Once the tears stopped falling down my face I closed my eyes. I felt myself drift into a sleep I had only had about three times before; ever sense I had been born I didn't sleep. No one knew why, and nor did I, but I just didn't.
"Stay with me." I whispered just before I fell asleep.

His smile grew slightly bigger. "As you wish." Was all he said as he gently picked her up and went to sit next to his little sister, with the elf in his lap. His arms were still wrapped around her, though he did wrap one around his sister as well. He stayed awake, both watching and listening for any sign of danger. He did not smile, but his eyes did light up, as the sun rose, filling the forest with its light that drifted through the trees.

I slept for what seamed like years. I had never been so content in my life. It was like I was living in a dream; everything was perfect. Then came the dreams. everything was racing; demons on every side of me, my mother and father behind me. I tried to protect them; shoot the demons. But every time one fell, another took it's place. The demons overwhelmed me. First my father, then my mother. They killed them in the worst ways imaginable right in front of my eyes. I screamed and thrashed in my sleep, unable to control the horrid nightmares. Soon the world was black. I was the only one left. Then I saw his face. It was a murderous face; the face of my parent's killer. I tried to run away, but he just got closer and closer. I sat up right, my eyes wide with something I had never felt before. A horrid emotion that made my body run colder than ice.
The feeling of fear.

He held you tighter. "It's alright." He whispered in her ear. "Listen to the sound of my voice and leave your nightmares behind." He had said the same thing every time his sister had a nightmare, whether she was awake or not. "They cannot hurt you for they are just dreams."

I clamped my mouth shut to keep from screaming further. I made my body move one leg under me, then another. I pushed myself off of the ground with a great effort. I took one uneasy step towards Flash, who apparently had come to see what the problem was. I rested a shaking hand in his neck, grabbed his long black mane, and heaved myself up onto him. I leaned over and grabbed my bow that I had set on a branch in a tree. As if reading my mind, Flash took off into the deep forest, leaving the demon and his sister behind.

He sighed. -She'll be back.- He thought to himself before leaning back against the tree trunk that was in the shelter. He then pulled his sister into his lap and held her close, keeping her warm. He continued to watch and listen for any signs of danger, and was ready to act if need be. His regular sword still strapped to his back. When in battle he would use his other sword which was currently strapped on his horse. That sword was a great sword and as far as he knew there were only three people who could wield it one handed. Two were dead and the other one was himself.

Stop. A voice
inside my head told me. Almost mechanically, I did. Flash stopped dead in his
tracks; an act that would have thrown any other rider from his back. I felt the
creature inside of me trying to gain control again. Usually I would have
slipped back into the darkness of my mind, but not this time.
No! I screamed in
my head. I will not let you do this anymore!
I thought. I felt myself pushing the other soul away with all my might. The
queen was strong, and she could kill me with this. But I didn’t care. I was no
longer going to be a pawn in her games. I was going to die, and I knew it; but
I was going to die free. We battled each other for what seemed like years.
Everything stretched into the last string; the last horse hair that held the
knife above the king’s head. Then that hair broke and the knife came falling
down.
I prepared myself for
death. I waited. And waited. Still nothing. I looked beside me in my mind,
searching for the sign that I was dead. Is
this what death feels like? I asked myself. Then I realized it. I wasn’t
dead. I was very much alive. The queen was no more.
A laugh escaped my lips as I opened my eyes. Everything
looked so clear and obvious. It was like I had been sharing a telescope my whole
life, and I finally gained control. “Ha ha!” I laughed. I looked around and
felt cold earth on my hands. I realized that when I was fighting, I must have
thrown myself to the ground. I stood up and leaped on Flash. “Come on, boy.” I
said, and he bolted off towards the camp, the demons, and my one true home; the
place where I was free.

He looked up from his sister as he heard the elf returning. -About a mile it sounds like.- He nodded to himself. -Definitely a mile before she is here.- He chuckled quietly to himself. -I so need to work on my hearing.-

I laughed wildly as I whisked my long brown hair out of my face. A "Ye-ha" Escaped my lips for a moment. I didn't realize how fast I was going, and as a result, when Flash stopped at the camp, I nearly flew off of him.
"Thank Terik for my training!" I whispered under my breath. "Hey!" I said, seeing the demon. I jumped off of flash and grinned once more.
