“Long ago; before man existed, the gorgons roamed the earth.
For the most part, they were peaceful creatures, and they took only what they
needed from plants. They lived in harmony with the animals. (You must remember,
the creatures of the then are not the creatures of now. There were no wolves,
no distinct “birds” or “fish”. The creatures of now evolved from the creatures
of then.) But all of that changed when Lareth of Daken took control. He was a
ruthless animal, destroying anything in his path. He hunted the animals the
previous chief had lived in peace with. The animals got together and tried to
stop him. They all failed. All but one. His name was Karek. He was a strong
warrior, and he feared nothing. He challenged Lareth of Daken to a duel. Ne weapons
allowed. Now, Lareth of Daken was not a very good hand to hand fighter. Once in
the arena with Karek, he soon fell. Lareth of Daken has a son, and he was a
very good warrior, possibly even better than his father with weapons. It is
said that he took revenge on Karek then, out of temper, made killing animals a
sport. And so the huntings began. Thousands, millions were killed in the first
three years. The populations were falling too rapidly. Everything was going
wrong. Before much longer almost half the species were extinct. Once they
realized what they had done, they started thinking of a way to restock their
food supply. After years of research on how to speed up the breeding of the
animals on the planet, they still had no luck. Infact, they killed many more of
the animals in their experiments. Soon they all come to realize that there was
only one solution : to create a new species. They worked long and hard on
creating a new species, using DNA from many other animals on the planet.
Eventually one gorgon came up with a new creature; wolves.
But not the usual now a day wolf. Me. Not that you know this, I’m sure you can
guess who created me, and there for my unconscious need for calling Keneth my
father. But, back to the story. Me, as you see me now. One thing you can’t see;
I cannot age in this form. They lived with me in harmony on one condition; I
would stay with them. I did for many hundreds of years, but due to my nature, I
rebelled. I didn’t get far; only about half way up these mountains.” I said,
gesturing to the mountains behind me. “Then they caught me. They thought about
what to do with me. Many said to kill me (they already had a more evolved
species of my true from), but Keneth protected me. He convinced them to erase
my memory and to give me a new form (the form I met you in), and to age me back
to zero. They did this many times once I became out of control in their cages,
breaking out and killing them. So they devised a new plan. Once I became four
years old, they would release me. And hunt me, just as they still do today.” I
said, then laughed a small laugh. “Well, more about a week ago. Every 50 years,
they would capture me and erase my memory and reset me back to zero. Each time
was the same; train, run, be captured.” I said, letting out a sigh. “They
realized after about three thousand years of this that I was an open lab rat. I
won’t dare speak of the things they tried and the pain it caused me, for fear
that it will cause you the same pain all at once. I will tell you one thing
though. This time they tested the capability for me to bare children, thus
these little ones.” I said, motioning to my stomach where my children lay. “I
know it is a lot to take in, Devillin, but please, try to believe me. For your
sake and mine, trust me this one time?”

"Devillin?" I asked, seeing him faint. I ran over to him, examining him. "You're such an..." I muttered to myself.

"Jazz? What is going on?" Keneth asked me from the doorway. He slowly walked over to me, then put a hand on me.

"I'll explain later. Just get him back outside?" I told him. He picked Devillin up and walked outside, leaving me to look after the now not dead Gorgons. I ran over to one of them, and a smile was on my face. "Ariel!" I said, pushing myself under her arm to help her up.

"Jazz." She managed to get out, then collapsed onto me. I let out a sigh, then got out from under her, watching all of my fallen brothers and sisters slowly rise.

"Get up!" I grumbled as I paced back and fourth on the cold sand.
"Fine." I said, sitting down in front of the still uncontentious wolf. I
 growled a little, then stood back up. "i can't believe someone could be
 uncontentious for five days!" I muttered to myself. My eyes flashed
over to the depleted pile of fish I had caught a few days ago. I smiled
at the thought that ran through my mind. No matter what Keneth said, slapping him with  a fish won't help. He already tried it. I thought. Of course after he did that I chased him away and most likely broke his leg. I'm not sure about his leg because after that, he didn't come back. I heard foot steps behind me and I turned around. "Stay away from the fish." I said, humor filling my voice. Keneth let out a roar of laughter.

"As you wish." He said, which made us both burst out laughing. "How long has he been unconscious?" He asked me, eying Devillin.

"Five days." I told him.

"I could wake him..." Keneth said, smiling and motioning to the fish pile. He grinned and laughed as I did.

"I don't think that will be needed." I said. "He should wake soon." I said, then walked over to the star lit ocean. Keneth followed, then sat down.

"You really love him, don't you?" Keneth asked me. "I've never seen you fight like that before." He said. The images of the battle a few days ago flashed through my mind. I pictured the wolves stunned by me appearance which gave me an advantage. Before they knew what had hit them, one was dead and others were wounded. As soon as they knew what was happening, they fled.

"Don't speak of that to him." I said quietly. "He doesn't need to know the danger I once again put him in." I told Keneth. "Promise me, you won't speak of it?" I asked him, my pure white eyes meeting his for a moment.

"I promise. But he should know that you risked your life to save him." Keneth said, then got up and walked away. I sat there, looking out over the ocean. Watching the stars dance on the beautiful glass surface, never putting enough pressure on it to make it shatter.

And you are mine. I thought openly, knowing he could hear me. "Yes, yes you do. I fear breaking his leg wasn't enough." I told him out loud, laughing. "And don't eat those to fast. I wouldn't want you to get a stomach ache and pass out again." I said. I chuckled a little, watching him. "Do you know what happened?" I asked Devillin out loud. He knew I was talking about the battle, so there was no need for me to specify about anything else.

"I know." I said, then gave him a small kiss. "Now, go get me some fish. I'm hungry." I said teasingly. I grinned and kissed him once more. I laid down and yawned. "Wake me... When ever." I said, the full impact of not sleeping for more than a week hitting me. I was out in a second, my tail coiled around me.

My sleep was filled by darkness, not dreaming of anything. My body could feel the sun rising and lowering, night turning into day, day into night.

My eyes fluttered open, the sun shining down on me. My nose twitched, feeling the soft feathers of my tail brush ageist them. I lifted my head up, a pain stabbing in my chest. I let out a small moan as I felt something move inside me. "Oh right." I muttered, remembering my children. "Devilllin? Keneth?" I asked, my voice cracking in pain.

I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. I let out a involuntary yelp before I could say anything. "Get Keneth! NOW!" I shouted at him as the pain increased.

I saw Keneth running towards me through my blurred vision. I felt the cool breeze off of the ocean, which helped. "Keneth, it's now!" I yelped to him. I saw Devillin behind him. "And keep him away from me!" I said. Keneth knew who I was talking about.

He reached me after a moment, then shouted to Devillin, "Stay away! She needs you away." He told Devillin. Keneth's eyes shifted to mine at that moment. "Do you need to be moved?" He asked me.

"NOW!" I said, getting impatient. Keneth nodded and picked me up carefully. He turned around, heading back to the cave he just came from.
