"Because you didn't hurt me last night. And I don't believe you can." His thumb ran across the skin of her cheeks as she spoke and he shuddered when she finished. There was so much truth in her words, but every time he looked at her, he only saw himself hurting her. Something about Paradise wouldn't let him move on, or let her move on from him. The idea of her forgetting him made him wince.
"It's so hard to think about not seeing you again." The words slipped out of his mouth unintentionally, but he made no inclination to take them back.

My shoulders fell at his words; like a huge weight being lifted. I loved that about Alex. Things seemed to easily come from his mouth and easily tug at my heart. Like right now.
At first I was quite speechless, but soon my lips stretched to a smile; telling myself this was reality, not a dream.
"I don't like the idea either."
I said, as one hand reached up and covered his own.

Alex smiled softly and let out the breath of a laugh at her words. So many things were wrong with this, but he figured he already hated himself enough. Pushing Paradise away would make him lonely again, and this time he knew it'd be worse. His eyes widened slightly when she felt her hand placed on his and he looked up fervently.
There was something he wanted to do. He blinked and pulled away. "Let's go back to my house and talk about last night," he said, though a bit awkwardly.

I let go of his hand as he let go of my cheek. Images of last night came to my mind as he brought it up.
Why would he want to talk about last night?
I wouldn't ask that though. He wanted me around - I didn't want to repel him.
"Okay."
I said with a smile before grabbing my coffee and looking back at him.
"I have all day."

"Good, because we don't have all night," Alex said in the cheeriest tone he could, but regret was thick in his voice. He sighed and absentmindedly rested a hand on Paradise's shoulder to lead her out of the cafe. He blinked when he realized what he'd done instead of just saying "ladies first" and allowed her to walk ahead.

As Alex led me back to his house, I could feel myself starting to get nervous. What was it that Alex wanted to say? Last night was a freak thing; something I doubt would happen again.
Just as I was about to say something to break the tension as we walked, his house came into view.
I walked up his porch, remembering the first time I walked up those two stairs, and waited for him from there, just in case the front door was locked.
Though I bet Alex didn't even need a lock, seeing as he is a 'wolf'.

As they approached the mansion, Alex was relieved to see he hadn't entirely decimated the front door. It swung ajar, rough scratch marks made on the inside part of the wood. He sucked in a tight breath and gave Paradise an apologetic glance. It was still early, though his muscles ached and he swore the bruises under his eyes had grown more prominent.
"Let's go to the family room," he said quietly as he stood in front of the marks. He knew she could still see them either way.

The tension was growing as we both stared at the door before us; memories of last night coming into my mind.
I shuddered when his back was toward me before nodding my head in agreement and walking passed the door.
"Okay."
I said, my voice coming out in a meer whisper before walking through the door way.

When Paradise walked through the doorway, Alex kept his gaze low to the ground and followed her in. He pushed the door closed behind him and grabbed her hand as he led her into the family room. He was exhausted and swayed on the spot before collapsing onto the couch and dragging Paradise with him.
"Sorry," he murmured. "I don't want to be alone." He closed his eyes sleepily and breathed out a soft sigh.

Before I had the chance to say anything, I felt Alex's hand in mine, leading me to the family room. Warnings were being blared in my ear drums as I sat down next to him but they all vanished as I heard Alex speak.
"There's no need to apologize for not wanting to be alone."
I said once I found my breath. I leaned my head back on the sofa, eyes still on him.
[[Great! And, yeah, I won't be on much either so taking a long time to post won't be a problem for me because I'll be doing the same. :) ]]

"I've tried to see if there is a cure, you know," he said softly and opened his eyes slightly to look up at the ceiling. "My parents didn't cure, though," he continued bitterly. "Killing was their cure. I've tried drinking water mixed with wolfsbane, but all that did was burn my throat and stomach for days." His eyes snapped open and he let go of Paradise's hand to cross to the other end of the room.
Snapping on a pair of gloves, he opened up a wooden box and winced at the burn from the smell that traveled up his nose. Gingerly, he grabbed one of the dried flowers and closed the box again, then settled himself back onto the couch with Paradise. He pinched the flower with two fingers and pulled off his other glove to place his hand back on Paradise's. His eyes had turned to amber from the wolfsbane, though the wolf would not awaken, he knew that.
"Wolfsbane to wolves is like garlic to vampires," he said and lightly dragged one of the petals over his cheek. His skin festered beneath the touch and ultimately burned, and he whimpered and pulled the weed away.
"I want you to keep it. It will help keep you safe from me," he said and hoped his voice didn't sound as broken as he thought it did.

When Alex started talking about his parents, Paradise's heart broke. Part of her wanted to say something, to comfort him, but another part wanted to hear what he had to say.
When he let go of her hand, she was tempted to sqeeze so he couldn't let go, but she didn't have time too. Watching silently as his back was toward her, she was dieing to explain - or make excuses for that matter - last night. Anything to keep him from saying what he had said at the coffee shop. That she should stay away. When Alex came back and held her hand, she suppressed a smile. How could he call himself a monster, when he was so gentle?
Though, she did see him as a monster before. He wasn't gentle. But, she did remember his eyes when he was a wolf. They were gentle for a moment.
At his explaination for why he was giving her the wolfsbane, she took it with her free hand reluctantly before meeting his gaze. Absentmindedly, she let go of his hand and ran her finger along his cheek - tracing the burn from the weed he had given her.
"Does that mean I don't have to go just yet?" She whispered as she tried reading him. Which wasn't very easy.

"I'm too selfish," he said with a sigh and placed the side of his head on the couch. breathing out a sigh when he felt Paradise's hand against his cheek. "So no, you don't have to go yet," he mumbled and leaned in closer to her to rest his chin on her shoulder.
"I'm so tired," he mumbled, mind already slipping into oblivion. He was barely awake. "Just going to rest. Wake me up an hour before sunset...so I can...get out. Don't go," he whispered and relaxed against her, the warmth she emitted lulled him into sleep.

No matter how much I trusted him, my breath became caught in my throat as he scooted closer to me and rested his chin on my shoulder.
"Wait... Why an hour? How will I-"
It was no use, for he was already asleep. Finally taking a deep breath, I rested my head against his as I hesitantly wrapped my arms around his waist; hoping he wouldn't wake up just yet. "You're not selfish." I whispered in his ear before closing my eyes as well.
