"How did you know?" Seth asked, offering an innocent smile. He didn't like how easy it was to talk to him still, even though it'd been so long. However, he felt better not trying to hold a grudge. He may have been a crap lover, but he was a decent person. "Well, it seems you're doing well for yourself. Are you happy?"

"I know you, Seth. I know how you act." Sterling returned the smile with a devilish one. "I haven't been happy in a long time. You?"

The smile faded slightly. Ugh, Sterling could still read him? "I'm not always sure," he told him honestly. "I want to be happy. I love it here, the air, the people, the water. But it's not completely home yet."

Sterling shook his head. "If it's not home, then why are you here?"

"Because I wanted to get away," Seth replied simply, giving his shoulders a shrug. "I don't have a place to call home anymore. I haven't found a place where I'm comfortable enough."

"Home isn't always a place, you know." Sterling said, smiling softly. "Am I the only table you're waiting?"

Seth glanced over his shoulder. There were a few he should be tending. He looked back and offered one last smile. "You better not skip off before you pay the check," he said, half joking, before moving off to give people refills and checks.

"Wouldn't dream of it." Sterling grinned, watching Seth walk off. He knew he shouldn't be doing this, not after what he put Seth through. But temptation was a... Nevermind.

It took Seth nearly fifteen minutes before he returned with Sterling's second course. He rolled his eyes. "You have to tell me how you keep your figure sometime," he said dryly.

Sterling chuckled, pulling the plate to him. "There's this facility. I believe it's called a Gym."

"I don't care how much you work out, you eat like a sumo wrestler," Seth said, scrunching his face. "I bet you're going to want something else after this, aren't you?"

Seth shook his head and couldn't help but smile. "You're a distraction, you know that?" He headed off to give out his last few checks. It wouldn't get busy again for a while. He returned about five minutes later. He felt oddly drawn to talking to him. A part of him was ecstatic to hear he wasn't happy. But the rest of him just wanted to get news about things he'd missed. "Refill?"

"Sure." Sterling replied. "How about you join me?" He asked, turning his grey eyes towards Seth's.

There was hesitation, but he took a seat in the booth, looking across at Sterling. It was uncomfortable how familiar this was. He was at a loss for what to say. And he could not break away from those eyes.

"Thank you." Sterling said, nodding towards the food. "Now, why are you in this small town?"

"I don't know," Seth admitted. "At first it was just me cutting off everything. But now... I sort of like it here. I mean, the job is great. I know my customers. And it's a friendly place. People don't ask questions. Everyone knows everyone. It's one of those towns you see in movies, the kind that are just...perfect, I guess."

Sterling snorted. "This town is anything but perfect. But I know what you mean."

"Well we both know perfect doesn't exist," Seth replied. He bit his lip, realizing that might have sounded a little harsh. He decided they'd better change the subject. "So what about you? Traveling all by yourself? That wasn't your plan.."

"I had planned on bringing someone with me, but eh. Plans change." Sterling shrugged. "Is smoking aloud in here?"
