Marim stiffened as he caught sight of the Shadow Pride. Behind him, warriors tensed with anger and hatred, some anxious to spill blood others hesitant and unsure. But he was positive each of them felt the burning rage in every fiber of their being as the dark shades of their fur came into view. The Pride Leader tensed, but made no move to attack. "Wait for them to make the first move," he hissed quietly. Marim flicked his tail in response, a signal for his warriors to stand down until their opponents made the first move. It was invisible to the Shadow Pride ranks, but he wondered if they saw the golden forms relaxing ever so slightly. He watched them with a fierce fire, ready to avenge his family and all of those lost to that Pride. He was ready to spill Shadow blood. He was ready to win this war.

Through the brush, Erishi could see relaxed golden pelts and her tail raised slightly, causing the warriors behind her to stop. Her Pride leader glanced at her and she muttered under her breath -- very quietly -- that something was wrong with the enemy line. She also suggested in the same tone that she'd take some of the warriors into the trees and attack from above if the he would take the rest and continue walking as they had planned eariler. The leader mulled over this for a few seconds before nodded. Erishi flicked her tail as she and a few other lions seperated from the colume and climbed up the trees. Keeping the noise they made to a minimum. Once Erishi and her group in the trees were steady on their branches, she motioned with one of her white-tipped paws for the leader to proceed. He did and kept low to the ground as he stalked forward while the warriors behind him did the same as they fanned out alongside their leader. Erishi padded lightly over the branches, keeping low and making sure she made no noise. Her brightly glowing yellow eyes watched the enemy line from above. She would shed Fire blood this day and she would shed as much as necessary to see that her pride was victorious.

Marim stiffened as his ears caught the sounds of lions moving from the grass. "They're coming," he breathed, just as their scent washed over him. Marim shuddered for a moment, and then realized something. The scent was strong. Too strong. "Something's wrong," he added a moment later, seeing the Pride Leader's face darken in worry. "I'll go investigate," he said, slipping away from the ranks of warriors, their faces torn between curiosity at his actions and stiff readiness for the Shadow Pride's attack. He slipped away from his pride mate's golden tones of fur, and into a small copse of trees. He scented the air, sure he was close--or even upon them. But he couldn't sense anything. They were no where to be found. Confused, Marim looked up.

Erishi watched as one golden lion slipped away from the lions in his Pride. She half-snorted as she continued on. What a fool, she thought as she started to narrow her fiercely glowing yellow eyes until they resembled slits. She glanced at her pride leader, who was still stalking slowly through the brush with warriors at his tail as they positioned themselves to attack the Fire's flank. She looked down back at the golden warrior, just as he looked up. She exposed her canines in a snarl before she roared her attack. The warriors that had followed her into the trees, jumped down onto the Fire's backs as her leader attacked from where they were. The black and white lioness sprang from her branch with her paws outstretch and her claws unsheathed. Her target was Marim.

Marim whipped around as he heard the battle cry. Too late, he thought painfully as the Shadow Pride ranks revealed themselves and attacked. The Fire Pride fought courageously, slashing down warriors where they could, but he saw a few golden flanks already falling to the ground. He prayed to the gods that they were only injured. He also noticed, a moment too late, that an attacker was springing upon him. Marim rolled to the side and sprang up again, hissing and spitting like a hell cat. He roared, and then advanced on his attacker--a female with unusual coloration--and couldn't help but notice what a pretty lioness she was. But she was Shadow, and he was Fire. And he attacked with only a moment's hesitation, sprining right for her neck.

Erishi landed on the ground as her intended target rolled away. Her tail lashed as she hissed back, her ears flat against her skull. When he roared and moved to attack, she saw slight hesitation in his pawsteps and lunged forward with claws slashing for his shoulder. The noise of battle made her blood boil and move faster. Her eyes also brightened with a strange blood-lust indugled glee. [[ -fail and braindead- ]]

Marim froze as her claws sank into his shoulder. They were unusually long, and sharpened to a deadly point. The pain was like a splash of cool water, and then being lit on fire. Furious, he extended his claws and did the same to the female, not stopping until his claws--though while long, weren't as long as hers--sank deep into the muscle. He narrowed his eyes into a glare and growled, tail lashing like an upset snake. His next move was fluid, but time froze in his eyes. He caught sight of the female's eyes, a startling golden color among the normal browns of his Pride mates. How sad such beauty must go to waste, he thought, and then lunged to tackle her back, springing into the air.

Erishi didn't have enough time to react as the golden male in front of her sliced her shoulder with his much shorter claws. The wound stung the cuts lay open to the air. She hissed and backpeddled slightly, avoiding his next attack. Closing her jaws, she still bared her canines as a low growl rubbled deep in her throat as she quickly took stock of her situation. She had backed herself into a tree and was trapped unless she could climb up it -- which she couldn't because she was facing the wrong direction and that would leave her back unprotected -- or, she could fake a swing at the golden male and break past. She liked the sound of the latter. Crouching, the muslces on her shoulders coiled as she waited for the perfect moment to execute her plan. But as she waited, she realized that her opponents golden fur seemed to reflect the sun's light in the oddest ways; like it created a golden veil around him. She banished the thoughts with a snarl as she thought of a ruby red lilac given to her by her future mate. She will not about a Fire lion like some sun-adled idiot. She would win this; even if she had to fight a little dirty. With a fierce snarl, she narrowed her glowing yellow orbs and lunged at the golden warrior; temporarily forgetting about her plan as fury enveloped her.

Marim hit her attack head-on, crashing into her lithe body and sprawling both of them to the ground. He hissed at her, trying to sink his claws into that perfect ebony fur. His back paws scrabbled at the gritty earth, trying to put him back on his feet. In the tangled struggle, he caught sight of a flash of ruby in the female's fur. Suddenly intensely worried that he had fatally injured her, Marim withdrew form his attacks, not caring if it cost him. But, no--the red wasn't a wound. It was a flower. His heart constricted. Probably a gift from her mate. Marim lashed out at the feelings suddenly flooding him--disappointment, resentment, jealousy. Of course she had a mate, a pretty young lioness like her. And if he killed her, that very mate would miss her, perhaps even die inside. Marim couldn't help it--his limbs dropped limply. He couldn't kill her--he could barely even bring himself to harm her. And if he didn't get out of there soon, she would. Ooc// Don't know if the tumbling thing is powerplaying. Sorry if it is. >_>

OoC:// -shakes head- I don't count that as powerplaying. BiC:// Erishi hit the golden warrior, then the ground. Her breath whooshed out from her when she fell. In an attempted to regain her breath, she also squirmed to get out. To get up and fight back. All of a sudden, the weight on her was gone. She blinked once, her yellow eyes wide for a moment before she coughed; regaining her breath. She also pushed herself to her feet in a slow movement before wincing slightly. She had landed on the shoulder that the golden warrior cut open with his claws and now tiny bits of dirt was now agrivating the bleeding red flesh beneath her black fur. Her tail lashed out -- a blur of black with a white tip -- as she faced the golden lion again. But something was different about him. He looked limp. Her eyes narrowed as she bared her fangs; emmiting a growling hiss as she did so. She didn't care. He was her enemy; an enemy she had to eliminate. Her claws slid out again as she slashed diagonally at the right side of his face.

Marim hissed in pain as he jerked away from her, but too slowly. Her claws left shallow gashes along the sides of his face. His sides heaving from his intake of breath, he scrambled up and back away from the lioness a few paces. He watched her for a moment, taking in her image, and then darted away from the copse of trees. As soon as she was out of his sight, his thoughts cleared. Stupid, stupid! His thoughts echoed angrily. You can't allow yourself to be distracted. Your Pride mates need you--you can't be a softy for some pretty Shadow Lioness. Shadow!!!

Erishi started to follow the golden warrior as he darted off, but she paused; her sides heaving from exersion of their little battle. Lowering her lips over her canines, she let her ears prick up as she listened for anything from her Pride leader. She couldn't hear anything but the cries of battle and the cries of pain. Letting out a half-disappointing noise, she turned her head to her injured shoulder and rasped her pinkish tongue over the bleeding wound. Bits of dirt stuck to her tongue and she quickly spat those out before she inspected her shoulder again. The bleeding had stopped; but it still stung. She sighed. She'll get Silvan to put something on it when she got back to camp. That is, if she makes it out alive. Shaking her head of the morbid thoughts, Erishi turned and joined the nearest fray of fighting lions.

Ooc// Sorry I wasn't on yesterday. ;-; Mom's B-day--busy making cake and having friends over. xD Posting Silvan's in a moment.
Bic// The camp was a flurry of activity as Marim limped in at the head of the returning warriors. His head was hung low, and his back left leg had a nasty wound cut into it. Behind him, his Pride mates were in no better shape. He knew that he should have been happy, relieved. Only two lions from the Fire Pride had died that day--a very small number, compared to other battles--but he couldn't help but mourn them, knowing that two families would feel striking grief that night. He was glad that the Pride Leader had made it out relatively well off, with only a few scratched on his shoulders and haunches. But others had lost bits of ears, and some would scars from deep wounds. Marim headed the party over to the healer's, and allowed himself to be treated, despite thinking that the supplies were better off elsewhere. He knew that he should have been concerned about the bleeding on his shoulder, from his encounter with the female Shadow lioness, but at that thought, all others stopped dead. His mind was suddenly swamped with images of those captivating, sharp yellow eyes. Her lean grace and unusual coloration sent a spike of adrenaline through him. Marim blinked, and shook himself as if to rid the thoughts of her. He stood up, and called out for Acai. --- Silvan bounded anxiously through the crowd, looking for the familiar glint of yellow eyes. Erishi. Where was she? His heart dropped a foot as he darted through the scared faces, some sad, others jubilant, all while depositing packets of herbs and stopping to staunch the worst of the bleeding. He hoped his slight shirking of duties would be allowed--one's mate (Or future mate, as he reminded himself), came first. Finally, after not catching sight of her, he gave up and called out, "Erishi?" He hoped the gods had been merciful, and she was there.
