Dredge was standing several meters below on the sewer tunnel floor. "Now now, this is not the time for fear, that comes later." he called up.
If a man dedicates his life to good deeds and the welfare of others, he will die unthanked and unremembered. If he exercises his genius bringing misery and death to billions, his name will echo through the millennia for a hundred lifetimes. Infamy is always more preferable to ignominy-Fabius Bile

"I'm not afraid." Goblinsong grumbled, jumping down the manhole. "I'm intelligent."

"That all depends on whose point of view you are looking from. Let us continue." Dredge headed off again, travelling along the sewer tunnels.

"Watch the tripwire." Dredge said, continuing his normal stride but stepping over the near invisible tripwire across the tunnel floor. (I think that made sense XD)

Dredge turned suddenly and knocked on a wall of the sewer tunnel. He knocked again in a slightly different spot, checking for something. After several knocks he found what he was looking for. He melted a part of the wall away with an acid spray and pulled a lever, opening a door in the tunnel. Lots of bickering could be heard down the tunnel. Dredge walked through the open door.

"The last time my Employer did a deal with the rats he found a perfect lair for them as payment. What he didn't tell them was that that entrance exists." Dredge said. The door shut behind them, leaving them in near total darkness. "Do not speak from now on, I would not wish to be set upon by a horde of Rats."

A light could be seen up ahead. If it wasn't for this light silhouetting Dredge it would have been impossible to notice he was there.

Dredge stopped near the end of the tunnel. The tunnel opened up to a huge intersection of sewer waterfalls. All down the walls of the drop were makeshift platforms harboring thousands upon thousands of Rats. Hundreds more swam in the churning sewer water below. A small raft with several important looking Rats with feathered heads or sticks were trying to get silence from the army of Rats around them.

Dredge folded his arms. One of the Rats on the float threw some form of makeshift flare/firework into the air, which caught the attention of most of the Rats. The Rats in the middle argued for a few second before one with a bird-skull helmet began to talk. "Rats! We are gathered today because of what happened up there earlier! We lost a Mage and hundreds or rats to a few measly techies! You lot disgust me! Now we'll all go hungry tonight cos of your lack of predametory instinct!" (No typo XD) There was much ashamed murmur from the rat crowd.

"Now now, be respectful. This is as close as creatures of this level get to order, we shouldn't disrupt it." He said. Another Rat-this time with a feather on his head-spoke. "Shuddup filth bags! We may have lost a good many kin, and a big dinner, but that shouldn't get us down! We is Rats! We is tough! We can always have another go, and get revenge on those blasted surface dwellers!" There was a roar of agreement from the Rats.
"That is where we come in." Dredge said to the Seenoke. He cracked his knuckles and stepped off the edge. Jets of water shot from the bottoms of his dress shoes and he flew down to the raft the Rat council was on, knocking two off. The council readied to attack, but Dredge grabbed the skull-helmeted one and lifted him by the throat as a hostage.

"Do not fear Rats, that will come later. I am a friend, surely you must remember me from our last business deal." Dredge said. "Gas man! Gas man!" the Rats all started to squeal, some running and hiding. "I am here to help you in your quest to vanquish those that have slain so many of your brethren. All that I ask in return is that you spare the hooded man and the armored super soldier, but you can have all others. Will you work with me-or shall I remind you of what happened last time?" "One minute." The council (except the one Dredge was choking) huddled together and talked. After a while they reached a conclusion. "Deal!"
