Sarah, suddenly getting cold feet, walked over to her bag, pulled out the used pregnancy test and stuffed it in her pocket before Luke could see it. She sat down next to him, and sucked in a deep breath. "You have to promise not to be mad," she said sincerely."

Sarah wriggled out of his hold on her, swallowing against the lump in her throat. "You know how today is the 21st? Well I asked because..." She paused, wondering how to say it right. "my period was three days late." She wrinkled up her nose, ashamed to share that with Luke, but continued. "So I got really worried, and while I was in the bathroom getting ready to meet your mother, I took this."

She pulled out the pregnancy test and st it on the table, sliding it his way so the little pink "+" was visible. She stayed silent after that, and waited for his response. She could feel her face grow hot, her heart beat faster and her breath speed up, so she started to chew her nails nervously.

Sarah felt oddly detached from her body. "Luke?" she said carefully, setting a hand on his shoulder with care. "Are you okay...?" She had expected an outburst; or maybe, on the other hand, she expected him to be happy. 

Either way, she felt a little stung and hurt. 

"I'm not ready to have a baby," Sarah said, feeling her eyes well up with tears. "I'm not ready to get all fat and moody, have my ankles swell up and puke in the morning. I don't think I can do this..." She didn't even want to bring up to him that she didn't even know if he was the dad.

Sarah wiped at her eyes, trying not to let any tears fall. "I'd rather be ugly and single than pretty and pregnant," she said. "Luke, nine months! And then another 18 years!" She shut her eyes, leaning against him. She worked up the courage after a minute to say what she was actually thinking. "Luke..." she mumbled, burying her face in his chest so she wouldn't have to look at him. 

"What if the baby is... Jace's?" A few tears fell from her eyes, soaking his shirt. 

Luke groaned and leaned his head back again. That though hadent even crossed his mind. He didnt respond. Just closed hs eyes and stayed silent.

Sarah stiffened, starting to get slightly annoyed at Luke. I'm only seventeen! Almost eighteen, but still! .... Still finds a way to mess up my life ... we can handle it... 

He was kind of acting as if HE was the one going to give birth in nine months. She didn't say anything, and relaxed her muscles again, but couldn't shake the feeling Luke didn't really understand how she was feeling. She felt more alone then ever.
