Sealpelt nodded, she and Quailpaw starting on their way up the rocky path to the cliff top. The older she-cat cleared the rocks in record time, and was left to wait at the top for the apprentice. Smirking, she thought silently about how lazy Quailpaw was really getting. --
Fadedstar raised her head, her usually gentle eyes swimming with chaotic emotions. "I'm up," she said quietly, sitting so she could wrap her long, fluent tail around her paws. "I can't sleep; I'm worried about Graypaw. I don't know what to do..." Frowning, she shuddered delicately and forced a smile. "What is it you wanted, Stormwing?" -- Boneshatter nodded, surprised to see Mistdance. He wasn't used to having warriors come and visit him when he was out. "Graypaw is a strong she-cat. Fadedstar shouldn't worry too much; she is much less fragile than she seems. And she is under the care of myself and my apprentice. To worry is to doubt our skills." Eyes sparkling, he turned to her and pushed himself onto his paws nimbly. "I suppose I should go and check on her. It is time I be getting back to camp anyways. Dreampaw must have noticed my absence." --
Xerus crouched, belly pressed against the ground. The gras$ tickled her underside and nose, forcing her to bite back a sneeze. The small brown rabbit in front of her reared, lifting its head. She watched in mute silence as its ears twitched, one brown eye looking in her direction. Within a moment, the rabbit slammed its foot down on the ground in warning to others around, and prepared itself to run away. The grey and white she-cat was too fast though. Paws digging into the loose dirt, she lunged for its neck, teeth meeting its mark with a crunch. Swiveling her ears as she stood up again, Xerus watched Mace pad up to her, a finch clenched in his jaws. "We're near Clan cats," Mace rumbled. "Real near. I can smell their markers everywhere. Perhaps we should head off. We've been here far too long, anyways." The big brown tabby turned his head, emerald eyes unreadable. "Lots of prey here, though..."

Stormwing sighed. "I think Mistdance is too. She's been fretting about the apprentice like she is her own kit." Shaking her head slightly the deputy backed up a little to allow Cedarpaw inside the den. "But, Cedarpaw is here to help with anything. I'm sure he'd be glad to check up on Graypaw." Purring as the apprentice nodded dutifully, but without annoyance, Stormwing touched his shoulder gently with the tip of her tail. "I have to get going now. Just do what Fadedstar requires you to do," she meowed in his ear before padding out of the den.
--
Happy to be serving his leader, Cedarpaw didn't feel to uncomfortable about helping out with Graypaw. After all, the she-cat wasn't rude or violent, just sick. And the tom was feeling particularly helpful today at any rate. Glancing over his shoulder as Stormwing left, He settled on the floor and gazed up at Fadedstar. "So should I go check up on Graypaw?" he meowed quietly, feeling a bit intimidated by the leader.
--
"I think Dreampaw has already woken up," Mistdance purred. "I heard some noises coming from your den." Gazing around thoughtfully the she-cat looked at the horizon, which was a brilliant blue, tinted with gold. "DO you require help carrying some herbs back?" she asked, remembering that the medicine cat had been gathering them before she had come. If she had interrupted his outing, it was only fair that she helped him in return.
--
Feeling annoyed by the sudden turn of events, Scorchwhisker padded along the ridgetop, though still a good length away from Mistdance and Boneshatter. Grumbling under his breath the fiery tom veered to the left and began heading a bit deeper into the undergrowth, the scent of prey filling his head. "They won't notice if I get something to eat," he meowed under his breath, stomach rumbling with hunger. "After all, they sent me here alone."
--
Stormwing hurried up the cliffside path towards Sealpelt and Quailpaw, huffing slightly. 'Good exercise," she wheezed as she reached the two, lagging slightly from her arduous climb. "Sometimes I wish our dens were a bit higher up."

Fadedstar blinked, eyes following Stormwing as she left the den. For a moment she looked confused. "Hmm?" she mumbled, looking at Cedarpaw. "Oh. Oh, yes. I'll go with you. I need to stretch my legs anyhow." She got up, shaking out her brilliant silver fur. --
Boneshatter smiled. "Sure. You can carry the burdock root." Amused, he nodded towards the herbs at his feet. "You know which one that is, right?" He flicked his ears at her, waiting to see which pile she would pick up. Ah, how he loved confusing others. --
Sealpelt grinned. "Ah, but that climb keeps the cats in shape." She stretched out her muscles, which were slightly sore, and let her claws dig into the loose dirt. "Let's head towards that old two-leg building. There's a lot of mice around there." Quailpaw only nodded, pretending to listen. He was watching two shapes in the distance. What're Boneshatter and Mistdance doing out alone? he thought. Shaking it off, he turned his eyes back on the older she-cats. -- Xerus pricked her ears, fur standing on end. She dropped her rabbit, the limp body landing on the ground with a muted thud. "Hear that?" she hissed, unsheathing her claws again. Her tail lashed from side to side. "Clan cat," Mace said, nodding. A slow smile crept across his face. "and he's alone..." The pair hid their prey and then started in the direction that Scorchwhisker was in.

[LOL, Scorchwhisker is totally getting it. xD]
"Coming," Cedarpaw chirped, and bounded after the leader, hot on her heels. The apprentice purred as he exited the den, for the bright sunlight began warming up his pale, and thin, pelt. He trotted a bit faster so he could be by Fadedstar's side and glanced upwards, blinking as the harsh sunlight outlined the figures of Mistdance and Boneshatter. "Fadedstar, I think that Mistdance is asking about Graypaw," he meowed quietly.
--
Mistdance peered down at the herbs with a thoughtful ex pression on her face. Knowing it was hopeless to simply chose one, as she wasn't a trained medicine cat, she began puzzling out the clues. He said root...so I can't be looking for a bundle of leaves, she thought critically, gazing at the herbs with an engrossed look on her muzzle. "Would it be..that?" she meowed, pointing to a cluster of roots. It had been a hard decision, as she wasn't entirely sure what roots actually looked like, so it had been a guess in the end.
--
"True," Stormwing allowed, and flicked her tail to get Quailpaw's attention. "Hurry up," she meowed, not noticing Mistdance or Boneshatter. Her attention wasn't on that now. The deputy only wished to get hunting so she could feed the Clan. "Otherwise, all the mice will be gone by the time we get there. Sealpelt will eat them all."
--
Scorchwhisker felt an ominous feeling behind him, but he ignored it, eyes and nose set on the plump sparrow in front of him. Crouching down he began creeping forwards, tail twitching slightly with anticipation. As he neared the clump of bracken that the sparrow was perched in front of, Scorchwhisker bunched up his muscles, preparing to leap.
[May he jump and land on Xerus? xD]

[ Go ahead... she deserves it! lol ]
Fadedstar only nodded, knowing that was the case. "Probably fetching Boneshatter," she mumbled as they walked. The sunlight warmed her up, almost to the point of making the leader feel feverish. The pebbles and stones under her feet were soothing. She found herself with the urge to run, but didn't, only headed towards where the young apprentice was. --
Boneshatter chuckled. "Of course it is," he purred, shaking out his thick fur. "Well done." He scooped up the rest of the herbs. He felt like someone was watching him, but the medicine cat paid the feeling no attention, and only stood up. Blinking at Mistdance, he started to head back down the paths towards his den. --
Sealpelt laughed. "Very funny," she meowed, waiting for Stormwing to take the lead. She didn't want to look rude and just run off ahead, so she lingered around the group, occasionally just doing circles around her Deputy and the apprentice. Always full of energy. Quailpaw nodded, catching up to them both. he padded alongside Stormwing feeling important and wanted. He liked the deputy much more than his own mentor. Purring, he dug his claws into the sift soil, letting the slight breeze ruffle his fur. --
Xerus drew closer, Mace behind the cat instead of in front. They planned to have Mace chase him towards Xerus, where she would spring out of hiding and attack him. Heart pounding, she waited for the Clan cat to come into view. Her breathing was light and rapid.

Twitching his hindquarters in anticipation Scorchwhisker prepared to pounce. Just as his hind feet left the ground, a slight rustled scared the sparrow and it fluttered away. The tom didn't have a chance to meow in surprise before he crashed into the bush, and another cat. "Wh-" he began, feeling soft fur beneath him and branches prickling into his skin. Scrambling out of the bush he got to his paws and found himself face to face with a she-cat.
--
"Oh, but it is," Stormwing meowed amicably, nodding in Quailpaw's direction. "Do you remember how to hunt mice?" she asked, testing the skills the apprentice had learned so far.
--
Mistdance suppressed a purr of pride and grasped the strong smelling bundle in her jaws, careful not to gag on the acrid taste. Padding behind the medicine cat with careful steps, still unsure of her to walk without some of her ability to see, Mistdance kept on pausing to reevaluate her position on the narrow ledge.
--
Graypaw could hear footsteps outside the den, and she uncurled slowly so she could lift her head to see who it was. Clenching her jaw as a shot of pain stabbed through her belly the frail she-cat just managed to sit up, sighing as the pain faded away. "Getting better," she mewed under her breath, glad that the aches were now farther and fewer in between.

Mace lost sight of the cat, and a skunk that had been startled when Scorchwhisker jumped sprayed him. He couldn't smell Xerus or the Clan cat at all. "Xerus?" he meowed, shaking out his now-damp fur. Xerus hissed and pinned herself to the ground, tail lashing back and forth. Her ears were flat against her gray and white head. She stared at Scorchwhisker, not moving. "Clan cat..." she breathed, blood pounding in her ears. --
Sealpelt only snorted, occupying herself by chasing a blue and white butterfly. She jumped and tried to catch it, leaping higher than thought possible when it started to fly upwards. Quailpaw nodded. "Scorchwhisker taught me a while ago. I think I still remember." He flicked his ears and pawed at the ground, kneading the soft dirt with his small paws.
--
Boneshatter put his herbs down for a moment so he could speak. "Why don't you walk on my other side, so you're not near the edge of the cliff?" he purred. "There's enough room for both of us to walk side by side." Picking the bitter plants back up, he nodded at Mistdance.
--
Fadedstar stared sadly at Graypaw. "Boneshatter will be here soon," she said quietly. "Is there anything you need, Graypaw? Water, a mouse or two?" Her eyes danced. "Please, don't be afraid to speak up." She felt sorry for the young she-cat; this was no way to spend your days.

Scorchwhisker twitched his whiskers in confusion, turning his from side to side so he could look at both the rogues. "Who are you?" he demanded, claws sliding out of his paws and sinking into the soft earth. "This is WaveClan territory." Being his usual thick-headed self, the tom didn't care about the fact that he was outnumbered. All Scorchwhisker could feel was his blood pounding through his veins, arousing his warrior spirit.
--
Stormwing stifled a purr of amusement at Sealpelt's antics. "Now we know why Cedarpaw is so fit," she meowed, referring to the apprentice's lithe and muscular form. "And Quailpaw, would like to try it out? Before we get to the abandoned nest, as I wouldn't want to scare the mice away. I have confidence in your abilities though." The deputy watched the apprentice critically, as it would be typical of Scorchwhisker to ignore the hunting part of mentoring and go straight to battle moves.
--
"Alright," Mistdance meowed, slipping between the cliff-side and Boneshatter. Almost immediately her heart slowed down, her emotions calmed by the fact that there was now something that, while no fool-proof, at least blocked her view of the drop. "I must be a horrible warrior," she joked. "Afraid of heights."
--
"I think I'm fine," Graypaw meowed, gritting her teeth as she stood up. Turning her head slightly to lick her flank she gave Cedarpaw a worried look. The apprentice would be able to tell if she was faking it, but Graypaw desperately wanted to get out of the den. "Could I please help out?" she pleaded Fadedstar, eyes sparkling with desperation.
--
Cedarpaw sighed but kept silent. Graypaw was old enough to know what was good for her, and what wasn't. You're being mouse-brained, he warned silently in his head, eyes gazing at the gray she-cat accusingly. But I won't stop you this time. You need to think for yourself sometimes.

"My name is Xerus," The younger she-cat breathed, eyes wide and aware. "And that idiot blundering through the undergrowth is Mace." She sat up, sheathing her claws to show that she wasn't looking to attack. However, her pulse didn't falter and continued at the rate it was going. "We're from far away. We come from a land of permanent snow." --
Quailpaw twitched his whiskers, dropping into a crouch. He drew his body across the ground slowly, as if stalking something. At the last moment, he bunched his muscles and leaped, landing on Sealpelt's back. She hissed, and batted him off, claws sheathed. "If you were a mouse I would have caught you," he purred. Sealpelt, however, was not amused. "But I'm not a mouse. I'm much bigger than a mouse. And I was chasing a butterfly -which you made me lose, by the way- and I was not paying attention." She snorted, tracking down a gras shopper that she could chase. --
Boneshatter twitched his whiskers, clearly amused. But the herbs in his mouth prevented him from speaking, so he didn't respond to her. Every cat has their weakness, he thought quietly. Being scared isn't a shame... its something that makes you more intelligent. A cat who knows how to fear lives longer than a cat who is scared of nothing. --
Fadedstar exhaled, glad to see the apprentice was feel better for once. "Alright," she said. "But you mustn't overwork yourself." Her tail curled, showing her relief and happiness. "Okay, you two. Some rocks got dislodged from the wall and fell in front of the entrance to the nursery. We have to move them out of the way. Graypaw, cuold you go fetch Owlpaw? If she's not doing anything right now she can help. Meet us there after. Cedarpaw, you come with me."

Scorchwhisker snorted with disbelief. Permanent snow? The she-cat must be making up those wild lies just so she wouldn't get punished. She'll learn, the angry tom snarled inside his mind, narrowing his eyes and glaring at the she-cat. "You can't distract me with that," he meowed flatly, backing out further from the bush so he wouldn't be caught by the second rogue that his comrade had given away. "This is Clan territory. We don't need you mange-pelted rogues on our land. Leave or die." His muscles were so tense he was trembling slightly, and the fur along his neck bristled as Scorchwhisker's rage grew.
--
"Good enough," Stormwing meowed in praise, cuffing Quailpaw slightly for his antics, "You'll catch a mouse or two with that technique. But remember, keep your paw-falls light. A mouse will sense the vibrations long before it smells or sees you." Purring she butted him forward with her shoulder and then glanced at Sealpelt with an amused ex pression forming on her muzzle. "Sealpelt, teaching Quailpaw how to be a kit again?" she meowed in jest.
--
"Don't mind me," Mistdance suddenly meowed, and sped up her pace as they neared the small jump that cut a hole in the path in front of them. Growling she padded a few steps in front of Boneshatter then suddenly swerved to the left, launching herself off the edge. Her ears were flattened with fear, but Mistdance only sense a sort of single-minded concentration as she pounced on a hawk beginning to flight, her claws gouging deep into the body and tearing out a few jagged feathers. Due to her familiarity with the area, Mistdance had judged her leap so she had landed directly on a flat ledge below the cliff edge. Purring, she glanced back up at Boneshatter and shook the hawk gently. "Too good to miss," she meowed happily, though her words were slightly muffled by the herbs in her jaws.
--
Graypaw nodded dutifully and clambered out of her nest, glad to finally be doing something of use. Slipping past Cedarpaw with a grateful glance, she headed out into the warmth of the sun and headed for the cliff path, sure that Owlpaw had gone to pa.ss dirt if Fadedstar didn't know of his whereabouts. Having missed Mistdance's astounding act, Graypaw simply meowed a respectful hello to the medicine cat and walked by them unknowing. As the frail she-cat climbed up higher, she felt adrenaline rush through her veins at the fact that she was finally outside and free, well, free for the most part. She still had to get Owlpaw.
Cedarpaw sighed, but held his tongue. "Alright Fadedstar," he meowed excitedly, not really minding the work. It was something to get his mind of Graypaw's tenacity and to get the blood flowing through his veins. He disliked being idle. Glancing up at the leader he waited for a signal to leave, so he could get started on the nursery.

Xerus, however, did not move and only stared at him. "You'd kill a cat whose never raised a claw against you?" she meowed in disbelief, shaking out her thick fur. "You're no better than most rogues are. But, as I said earlier, I'm not a rogue. I'm from a Clan of cats from a place of permanent snow. Well, not a clan, to put it, but a Tribe. My name was Fern that grows on rock." She frowned at him. "I left because I didn't like the Tribe; my coat wasn't thick enough for the arctic weather. Mace and I came looking for other cats to stay with, but..." She trailed off. "If it will create a problem for you, so be it. We will find a home within another of the Clans around here."
--
Sealpelt shook her head as she crushed the gras$hopper under her front paw. "Just trying to burn my extra energy. I get a little hyperactive, you know." She paused, standing up as she scented the air. "Anyone else smell that?"
-- Boneshatter chuckled, only nodding at her as his paws hit sand. He purred, enjoying the feel of it, before starting off in the direction of his den. His tail waved through the air like a white flag of peace. His green eyes were bright and sparkling. --
Fadedstar nodded at Cedarpaw, starting on her way to the nursery. She kept her pace slow enough for Cedarpaw to keep up, but fast enough so she was running a slight jog. As the nursery came to view, so did the rocks and small boulders in front of it. "What a mess..."

Scorchwhisker sighed. Now that he had let them speak their story sounded more believable. "I suppose I'll let Fadedstar and Stormwing deal with you," he growled, fur bristling. "Just follow me." Without another word he stood up abruptly and padded into the bush that he had first been crouched in, black fur melding into the shadows seamlessly. "Well?" came a testy voice from the bush, the tip of a black tail twitching with annoyance.
--
"Smell what?" Stormwing asked warily, lifting her head to test the air. Perhaps it was Sealpelt's need for adventure, or Stormwing's nose wasn't working, as she couldn't scent a thing. "Sealpelt...you aren't making this up, I hope. We really don't need a false alarm right now." Giving the she-cat a stern glance she turned her head to look at Quailpaw, hoping he hadn't heard Sealpelt's comment.
--
"Oh, hello Graypaw!" Mistdance meowed loudly, spooking the small she-cat as she clambered up over the ledge. Taking a quick breather by Boneshatter she touched the apprentice's back lightly with her tail before she got too far away. "What's the hurry, Graypaw?" Mistdance asked, her natural curiosity coming out.
Graypaw could have sworn it was Mistdance who had spoken, but for all she knew it could have been a ghost. "Uh..." she began, just as the strange possibly-ghost-cat had meowed a friendly question. "Oh...Mistdance," the apprentice meowed lamely, hoping she hadn't shown her surprise too easily.
--
"It'll be hard work," Cedarpaw agreed, paws already itching to help out with the clean-up. Sniffing the air the tom was glad to know that the area was clean of the scent of blood. No-cat had died in the rockfall. "Do we start with the top rocks?" Cedarpaw meowed nervously, prancing closer to the rubble and giving it a sniff. He wasn't sure how the dynamics of moving large stones worked, and at the moment it seemed to him that starting at either the top or bottom would be equally workable. "Maybe we can move this?" he asked, touching a large stone by his paw lightly, the rest of it buried beneath the rest of the rocks.

Xerus let her breath out slowly, blinking in thanks to him as she followed. "Thank you," she purred softly, glancing backwards for only a moment. She'd fetch Mace later, when she knew it was safe for them within the strange clan. "You don't know how much of a relief this is. What's your name, if you don't mind my asking? I'm known as Xerus."
--
Sealpelt snorted unhappily. She knew what she smelled wasn't false. She'd been smelling it for a couple days now; a male and female rogue. However, she bit her tongue and followed her deputy dutifully. Fighting the urge to run off and take the loners down, she stared blankly at a silver and gold butterfly. Quailpaw was too busy staring at a hawk in the sky to be paying attention. "I wonder what its like to fly," he purred, amber eyes scanning the feathery creature. "Do you think it'd be fun?" -- Boneshatter watched Graypaw intently for a moment, frowning gently. The she-cat was up and moving, but still smelled sick to him. He only shrugged, padding into his den in silence. He quickly put away the catmint and juniper berries, realizing faintly that Mistdance still had the burdock roots. --
Fadedstar chuckled with a good-natured purr. "Move the smaller stones first," she said. "That will make moving the larger ones easier." She started to roll a fair-sized stone with her paws, pushing it towards the spot where the water lapped hungrily at the sand. "The current will carry the smaller stones away... the larger ones will have to be moved somewhere else."

"Scorchwhisker," the tom growled uncomfortably. "And don't thank me yet. It's all up to Fadedstar." He turned his head towards the camp so he wouldn't have to look at the she-cat, feeling discomfited by this sudden turn of event. Fool, he thought sullenly. You're supposed to chase intruders out! Not invite them into the Clan!
Sighing Scorchwhisker forged ahead resolutely, the faint tangy scent of the sea already hitting his nose. The warrior kept a sharp look ahead, waiting for that familiar rock that signaled where the path leading down to the caves was. It was unobtrusive, and partially hidden, and Scorchwhisker was smart enough no to look directly in its direction. The rock was a secret, and there were others littered around the clifftop to confuse enemies into falling over the edge during the night. Of course, he thought. Another reason as the why the kits and apprentices are limited to the lake-shore at all free times.
--
"You think hanging in the air with only a few feathers to hold you up would be fun?" Stormwing meowed incredulously, giving the apprentice a searching look. "I suppose whatever suits your fancy." The deputy gave Sealpelt a sad look. "I don't disbelieve you," she meowed gently. "Just I don't scent anything. However, it might just me getting into my old age." She nuzzled the warrior playfully.
--
Graypaw avoided the medicine cat's eyes embarra.ssedly and ducked down slightly, cowering under his searching gaze. Out of any cat, Boneshatter was the one who would be able to see through her thin facade. But it was her only hope to get outside of the den. She knew that she needed to be able to run about freely.
--
"That's smart," Quailpaw meowed appreciatively, flicking a few pebbles up into the air, which then fell down into the ocean with a small plop. It was rather fun. Turning to a larger rock, though still quite small, Quailpaw rocked it with his paws until it tumbled down the hill, bringing a few sharp fragments of stone down with it.
[Want to do a quick time-skip forwards? I really don't want to role-play Graypaw finding Owlpaw, as they're both my characters. xD]
