[[ I know right? <3 ]

I noted the shaking fingers of the princess as she slipped the much larger ring then her own through my fingers. To me, that was a good sign. That meant she was just as nervous about this as I was.

I let my hands fall to my sides and for a moment I wondered if we were done. That was until the priest with a discreet lifting of the corners of his mouth - as if he knew what he was going to say will be an awkward thing to do for us - said, "You may kiss your bride, Prince Travis."

My eyes took a moment before looking back at hers. Was I willing to do this? No. Was I going to do this, even if this meant I'd never see Nikki again? Yes. For my father. Yes. I stepped forward once, my head close enough to hers that my breath fell against her cheek. I was so nervous I didn't know where to put my hands. ( xD ) On her waist? No, that felt inappropriate. On her shoulders? To... Appropriate. I had to show that I at least wanted to do this or I wouldn't be following my fathers orders completely.

Slightly agitated that I waited so long, I finally - smooth and fast without any more hesitation - pressed both palms against her cheeks, both thumbs under her chin to tilt her head up to look up at my tall frame. My lips found hers in a soft, lingering kiss. I wasn't lusty or scandalous. Just one kiss before my lips lingers across hers probably longer then necessary. I slowly let my hands go to my sides, leaning up.

My cheeks were burning hot. My eyes would look anywhere but back at her. Swallowing, I looked at the priest, at the audience, at my feet. Finally, it was done.

If Laina could have died, she would have done so when the priest finished the service with those five little words: You may kiss your bride. Not even 'the' bride. No, the holy man had to put 'your' bride. Was the man intentionally trying to humiliate the girl in front of the most important people of her kingdom? Damn that priest.

Laina waiting for Travis to make the first move. After all, the man had said for him to kiss her. So, you could say she was slightly surprised when he placed his hands on her cheeks, raising her eyes to meet his. The action wasn't scandalous, nor safe, but it was intimate. The girl felt her cheeks burn red by that simple action.

Laina, still blushing madly, put both her hands on Travis' chest. She was delighted to feel the strong muscles underneath his shirt. Big boy. She liked. Her hand placement also gave her leverage to meet his kiss in the middle, so she wasn't awkwardly leaning up, and he wasn't awkwardly leaning down.

The kiss was... nice. Not what she wanted her first kiss to be like. You know, the ones in the romance fables where the Prince rescued the Princess and they kissed in the soft rain. No, it wasn't a kiss that blew her socks off, or tights, in her case. But, it was nice. Gentle, cautious, closemouthed, perfect for a church event.

Laina pulled away from the Prince, pulling her hands from his chest as well. She crossed her hands behind her back to keep her from touching her lips. The same ones that the Prince had lingered on. What was that about?

A glare from the Queen, aka, her mother, brought Laina back from La-La land. She broke her hands apart and put them gracefully at her sides. A lady never held her hands behind her back; it insinuated she was hiding something. A little tidbit her mother had given her.

From the back of the church, someone yelled, "Wedding's over. Time for the wine and mead!"

Laina couldn't help but giggle at the comment. Of course, they were headed to the reception now... Which meant drunk men asking for her hand to dance, and her mother eyeing her bad posture as she did so. God, the girl could never win.

[[ That is so true.  Even stalkers enjoy our tales. |D ]]

I stepped back when the kiss was done, happy that I had made it look like I enjoyed it some what. She even played along, letting her hands rest on my chest. I was never able to kiss Nikki. Every time we were alone, my mother immediately found a servant and gave her an excuse to interrupt our meetings. She was against Nikki from the start. The queen thought she was giving me impossible fantasies.

I blinked, glancing back one more time at the door where the girl who got away. Nikki will have a better life, even if she didn't have jewels and servants, she'd find a man that loved her as much as I did. I looked back at the princess. And I'll have to learn to love her, instead.

"Weddings over. Time for wine and meat!"

I heard someone yell in the back, but I didn't allow a laughing smile to come to my lips like the audience. I was against this whole wedding. My father didn't tell me I had to smile while I did as I was told. I sighed, the music coming back on, signaling for the bride and groom to leave the sanctuary first to get ready for the reception.

"Shall we?"

I said, my deep voice coming just loud enough for the princess to hear, as I lifted my elbow to her.

[[ Mead. lol It's like old-time beer. xD ]]

Laina looked down at Travis' arm like it had a random disfigurement. No, she wasn't ready. For any of it. Especially the reception, and especially what came after it. The honeymoon? She really, really hoped for her life that he didn't expect anything out of her. She didn't want to bare children for quite a few years...

Ladies don't stare at arms like they are disfigured. That should be on the list of things ladies shouldn't do that her mother gave her. Laina let a wide grin cross her face as she looked up at the Prince, though it didn't reach her eyes. It probably never would around this man... This... Ugh!

"But of course, Prince Travis," Laina responded just as softly, taking his arm like a lady would. She held the hem of her dress up slightly as they walked down the stairs. Ladies would never allow themselves to trip in public; it showed shame to whomever taught them their manners.

Thankfully, it was a short walk to the reception area. The girl pretended to look surprised and awed at the beautiful area. She was neither... Perhaps it was because she snuck a look earlier when she was supposed to be getting ready. Hey, Princesses were curious too!

[[ Oooh. I just thought you typoed and failed.
I guess it's my turn to say I failed. |D

But. Snuck isn't a word. So we both fail. |D Just kidding, I love you.
Let's have them eat first. |D ]]

I kept my face emotionless as the princess stared at my arm. What was wrong? I understood that I didn't want to do this either, but she was making both of us look bad by standing there like a fool, staring at my arm like something was wrong with it. I slowly tried to calm my bad temper when she finally grabbed a hold. This wasn't starting out well.

As we walked to the reception, I was led to the table where the family stays at. Soft music was playing in the back ground, but it would become louder once the dance floor was open. A servant held out her chair for the princess who was led across the table from me. (Pp?D:) Another servant came to me and held out my chair. I sat down, giving them a small 'Thank you'. Looking around, I noticed both  Princess Laina's and my parents weren't here yet, so I slipped a couple coins into the servants pocket. Servants were never payed kindly, so I thought I'd give them a tip. I always felt bad for them, especially the ones being forced to serve.

Coming back to my reality, my sad, sad reality, I heard my mother come to me and the princess at the table.

"Congradulations son! Your father will be so proud."

My cheeks paled at the thought of my father, but I gave my mother a small tight-lipped smile. She seemed to not notice my reaction to my father before looking at princess Laina, sitting down next to her, and complimenting her from head to toe. My mother was quite kind and outgoing, always looking her best. She hadn't meant to upset me by bringing up my father, but I still wished she hadn't.

[[ I didn't really know what to do for eating - I'm not good with small talk, and neither is Travis - so you can make the dance floor open whenever. |D ]]

[[ 'Snuck' is a word in my dictionary... ;-;

Sneaked just doesn't sound correct! D: ]]

Callie grinned at the servant who pulled the chair for her. He looked at her like she was crazy. Okay, no more beaming at the help, it seemed. She whispered a small 'thank you' before settling down into the seat. Head high, back straight, napkin on her lap, feet positioned carefully underneath her dress. She was sitting like a lady should.

The girl grabbed her glass, which was full of just water. She didn't drink, never have, and didn't want to. She'd seen what alcohol had done to others like her. They became giggly, children, muttering whatever was on their mind and laughing shrilly. It was disgraceful. She wondered if their mothers were proud of how they raised their children.

Laina raised an eyebrow at Travis' reaction to the mentioning of his father. Odd. Most people would feel comforted by the fact their fathers would be proud of them. So, why wasn't he? Well, it was not her place to ask. Wait. It was, actually. They were married. But, out of respect for his privacy, the Princess would say nothing.

Laina blushed furiously as Travis' mother bombarded her with compliments. It was so embarrassing! She struggled to keep her heart beat in check, and her emotions down. With a kind smile, Laina knew she had to reply.

"My Queen, you flatter me! I cannot just sit here and take all of your compliments when you look even more stunning than myself. Perhaps, soon we can get together and swap beauty secrets?" Laina flashed a shy smile at the queen. Flattery? Check.

"But, you must excuse me, your highness. I believe the people are waiting for the Prince's and my first dance to start." She turned to look at Travis. "Shall we?"

[[ So true. Sneaked is a word on my spell check and it just... No. It doesn't sound right. D: ]]

I kept to my eating as the servants handed us food, my mother still talking to my new wife as though she was the most beautiful thing in the room. My eyes snaked around all the ladies and my cheeks burned.

She was the most beautiful thing in this room.

I finished off my drink just as I heard the princess say that it was time for our first dance. I swallowed, tempting to look at her the way she had looked at my arm when I asked the same question. Instead, keeping my bad temper and maturity in check, I stood up from the chair, walked around the table with out taking my eyes off of her, and coming up to her seat, my elbow out.

"We shall."

My deep voice said, my green eyes still boring into hers intensly. I hoped I'd find the love for her that I had for Nikki.

[[ Grr... Stupid English language. >> ]]

Laina couldn't help but blush furiously as he looked into her eyes. No one ever had the audacity to stare at her like that. But, she supposed it was his right now... Being her betrothed, and all. But still, did his look have to be so intense? She felt like a candle melting in the sunlight!

Laina grabbed his arm lightly, not looking at it strangely as she had done so before. That would be rude, and it was. She had to learn how to keep herself in check more often. Maybe a mental notebook where she thought before acted. Right. Impulse was practically all the girl acted on.

Laina finally broke eye contact, hating the fact her cheeks were bright red. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself, return her looks to normal. She didn't want to look intimidated by her own husband; that might give him a bad image. And if he looked bad, so did she.

Laina led him to the empty dance floor and turned to face him (pp, get over it.). With a gingerly touch, she placed her hand on his shoulder, and grasped his hand with her other. It was only a second before the music started. A slow waltz, fabulous.

[[ Blah blah blah. :D ]]

[[ Awwwhhh. They're dancing. |D
Something bad should happen. To make them absolutely hate each other. |D I can't think of what so I shall wing eeet~ ]]

She finally broke the eye contact, and that was when I was realizing I was staring. I guess I just wanted to find some sort of bond with her and eye contact was the way I did things. I could read ex
pression, body language... Either way, I hadn't meant to make her feel uncomfortable.

I allowed a slight smirk come to my lips as she gingerly layed her hand on my shoulder and grabbed my other hand, starting the dance. Once we started getting the hang of dancing together, I found her eyes again.

"Princess Laina, if we can't find love for each other the way a husband and wife have, I pray we at least find a common bond. A companionship."

[[ Well, Laina is well known in her kingdom for reaching out and visiting the people. Perhaps Travis commands that she can't go into the towns anymore?
She'd totally hate him after that. |D ]]

Laina hid her frown at his comment. What did she get from that? It was: I don't think I can ever love you, but let's be friends instead. Why did that comment make her heart ache? The fact that it seemed the man didn't even want to try? Or the fact she had? But those feelings were hidden behind a grin of the ages.

"Prince, it's as if you have read my mind. I'm so glad that we can agree on this idea," Laina said softly as they danced. She noticed his hand wasn't too high on her waist, or too low. What a gentleman. Perhaps a friendship was what they needed.

"There would be nothing more I would like to do than spend a life time with someone I consider my companion."

Well, except spend a life time with someone she truly loved... But other than that, companionship was good.

[ D: Sorry. ]

The first dance for the bride and groom - sadly, me and Princess Laina - finished quickly, which brought great relief to me. I was now on the 8th woman in the room, dancing uncomfortably with her hungry eyes on me. My cheeks were quite pale by the end of that dance. But, finally, more modest and kind woman - younger and older then I. - danced with me.

My eyes sought out my new bride, wondering how she was doing with the men around here. Though I had no love to give, that didn't mean I wanted those men looking at her the way that one woman looked at me. I had kept her discreetly in my sight so I knew if any trouble came along. I could be a bit possessive.

"Hello dear,"

I heard my mother say as the woman I was dancing with disappeared so I could dance with my mother. I gave her another tight lipped smile.

"Hello mother."

I said, trying to show that I was enjoying this ceremony. Though I think it was quite obvious to every one - even if I tried to hide it -  that it wasn't my favorite day of the year.

[[ Don't be! :D ]]

Laina gave the Prince a small smile as their dance ended, to both of their reliefs.

She had barely stepped away from her last dance when she felt a familiar hand on her waist. It made her lip quiver from a combination of excitement and fear. She knew that hand all too well.

"Princess Laina, may I have this dance?"

The man's low voice whispered in her ear. It gave her shivers. She turned to look in the familiar eyes of the man.

"But of course, Duke Wellington," She replied, giving him a slight grin. The girl held in a gasp as the man pulled her close, much too close to be called appropriate, especially since she was now married. And his hand? It was practically groping her.

"Charles, that is hardly proper etiquette." Laina said softly, pulling his hand up so it rested respectfully on her back. She took a step back, putting more distance between their previously touching chests. As much as she'd like to be there, she knew she couldn't.

Charles leaned down to whisper to her again.

"You know I was never one for etiquette, Princess." His hand traveled South on her bodice once again.

"I am a married woman, Charles." Laina said firmly, dragging his hand back to proper placement. "You cannot keep treating me like your plaything. Please, stop."

The thought of being Charles plaything made the girl blush. Sure, they had met a couple times when it was not allowed, but they hadn't done anything. Well, she hadn't. Charles constantly had his hands all over her. Not that she had minded at the time; Charles was a handsome devil.

"How will you punish me if I choose to continue?"

His husky voice and breath on her neck made the girl shiver. What would she do? Probably nothing but finish the dance. She never did anything to deny him...

"Charles, please. My husband might be watching."

Laina's voice was soft, meek. She was ashamed that she couldn't say anything to him. She was entranced by his whole being, and it was not proper for a woman with her ti
tle.

"Oh? I can be into him watching if you are."

Laina's eyes widened at his comment. Her voice just rose above a mere whisper.

"You're a pig..."

[[ Charles, you pig. Get your hand off of Laina's butt! >U ]]
