''I will...'' The Montecko mumbled in reply, although it was doubtful his master heard it, as he had already headed out the door. After about a moment of trying to force himself to remain awake until Fremmed returned, Vert failed miserably and fell back onto the bed, quickly falling into a deep and heavy sleep.

Fremmed quietly walked down the steps, ignoring his sister as they passed each other. Going into the kitchen, he took somethings from the pantry and grabbed a water bottle from the counter. He wondered if Monteckos could eat the same things as humans, but then guessed it wouldn't matter and went back upstairs.

He expected to find Vert still away, and was surprised to see that he was sleeping. Fremmed felt a surge of irritation go though him, the Montecko was sleeping on his bed. He seethed in the doorway for a minute before realizing that Vert actually looked cute resting. The teen immediately shook the thought from his head. What would his father think if he could hear Freemed's thoughts. The male went over to the Vert's side, placing the things he had gotten on his desk, and sat beside the bed, waiting for the slave to wake up.

Vert woke up a few hours later, turning his head to see Fremmed already asleep... pretty close to him, actually. Uncomfortable with how close the human was to him, and suddenly self-concious of the fact that he had just fallen asleep without waiting for him to return, he shifted into an upright position, his head tilted to one side as he watched the boy sleep.

Fremmed twitched, feeling eyes on him, and woke up. He blinked for a few seconds, his eyes getting used to the light. He glanced over at Vert and saw that he was awake again. "Sleep good?" He asked the Montecko. "I have food and some water if you're hungry or thirsty." Fremmed told Vert before stretching his arms in the air, yawning.

''Y-yes, th-thank you.'' Vert stammered, nervous of being in the house. In Fremmed's room. With Fremmed. ''No, I-I'm fine, thank you.'' He added. Surprisingly, he was feeling neither hungry nor thirsty, although it was the opposite to what he expected.

Fremmed frowned. "Really? You sure? I don't want you passing out again on me." His eyes caught the clock in his room. It took a few seconds to process the information that it was five in the evening. When it connected, he jumped up. He was supposed to check on the other Monteckos! "I got to go. 'Be back in a few." He mumbled, rushing out of the room and closing the door on his way out.

Vert looked slightly confused, glancing at the thing he had looked at before leaving so suddenly. He himself had never been taught how to read a clock- or even what one was- always instead using the sun and its position in the sky to judge time of day. Because of this, he didn't connect time of day with the contraption, and couldn't see why Fremmed had rushed out so suddenly. He remained seated, though, awaiting the human's return patiently.

Fremmed ran out of the house and to the barn, leaving him out of breath in the end. He walked through the doors and saw that all of the Monteckos were there, milling about. "The new one is staying the night at the house." He announced, and ignored the murmurs that only he could hear. He closed and locked the door before walking back to the house, up the stairs, and back to his room. Fremmed thought about apologizing to Vert, but didn't.

Vert smiled softly as Fremmed returned. He hadn't moved a muscle- quite literally- save for breathing and blinking, and he didn't question why the human left. He had learned long ago that you don't question the humans, and it didn't change now that someone could understand him at last.

Fremmed flopped onto the bed, careful not to fall on one of Vert's appendages. He was out of breath from running, and it would take a few minutes for him to calm down. He said nothing, waiting for the Montecko to start a conversation. He had been willing to talk when he didn't know that Fremmed understood him, so he expected Vert to talk even more now.

''What's that?'' Vert said eventually, only after being silent for a minute or so, and he nodded his head in the direction of the clock. He thought he recognised what humans called numbers on it, and he saw that something in the clock appeared to be moving.

"It's a clock. It's used to tell time. The shorter hand points to the hour, and the smaller one to the minutes. The red one that keeps moving tells the seconds." Fremmed stated, not even thinking about the chanced that Vert didn't know what hours or minutes mean. He had never thought about of the Monteckos tell time.

Vert's face looked highly confused, but he didn't question what he said, or say anything more for several minutes. ''Why don't you just use the sun and moon?'' He said finally, giving a small sigh of confusion at the same time. This 'clock' thing was weird as hell.

Fremmed blinked. "Why would I? What would I do during a new moon or when I'm inside. It's hard to look through walls, you know. And what if it's really cloudy or storming? If you only know how to read the sun and moon, then you'd be screwed. A clock, however, is portable and I can wear one on my wrist so I'll always know what time it was." Fremmed explained to the Montecko.

Vert looked down at the ground a moment, trying to make sense of all that he said. From what he gather, his master didn't exactly agree with the Montecko's method of telling the time. Sighing as he gave up any notion that Fremmed and him were in any way alike, he decided to see if he could learn more. ''I don't get it, though. All it is is a bunch of numbers on a circle with two arrows. How does that help you tell the time?''

Fremmed thought for a second, trying to guess on how he could explain it. "So some people have broken the day into twenty-four hours. Each hour has sixty minutes, and each minute has sixty seconds. Got that? Well, there are twelve numbers on a clock, which is half of twenty-four. A clock is broke down into two parts- Am and Pm. Am is in the morning form midnight to noon, and Pm is from noon to midnight." He thought again. It's really hard to explain it.

Vert did his best to pay attention and understand, but he was lost after Fremmed said about how a day was broken into twenty-four parts. He was too busy thinking about how someone broke a day into different parts to focus properly on anything else the human said. ''Uhm. Ok... I get it. More or less...'' It was kind of obvious he didn't get it, though, by his furrowed brow and exceptionally confused ex
pression.

Fremmed nodded, not noticing how confused the Monotecko was. He gave a small sigh for no reason and stretched up his arms. He was getting tired again. The teen wondered where his father was, usually he would be home by now. Fremmed looked back over at Vert. "You hungry still or something? Want a drink?"

''No, I am fine, thank you.'' Vert replied graciously, not feeling in the slightest hungry still, which surprised him enormously, but he chose to ignore that fact and be content with the fact he wasn't hungry for once. It was a feeling he liked, he decided, minus of course the nauseous feeling he had.

Fremmed nodded and looked at his carpet. He really didn't know what to say. Talking to the Montecko felt awkward because he knew that humans weren't able to communicate with him. The teen suddenly had a strange urge to reach out and feel Vert's scales. He had never actually touched a Montecko on purpose before, when it did, it was just a small brush, or he wasn't paying enough attention to remember what it felt like.

Fremmed shivered at the thought. He knew better than to have feelings like that. The human tired to push them away, and when they wouldn't leave, he wished for them to move off on their own.
