Pushing through the brush I caught her immediate scent mixed with blood on the breeze. Turning to my left I trotted forward pushing my nose through a few tall standing blades of grass and found the Doe on the other side in a small clearing, a fallen tree to her left, it's twisted braches grabbing at her hindquarters. Stepping out into the open not even trying to hide anymore her ears shot straight up her head twisting to look at me. Advancing cautiously on her front end she quickly shuddered and hopped forward her rear hind leg bending un-naturally. It was then I saw the red seeping down the Doe's leg and the porcelain white of her bone poking through her brown red soaked fur.
Looking back up to her head she attempted bucking her last few steps into a near by thorn bush but her second step was off by a few inches causing her to step down on her broken leg. A scream echoed out as she staggered sideways coming at me with un-controlled speed, ducking sideways and jumping back her body crashed to the earth her right hind leg kicking out before she calmed and looked around frantic. Running at her she quickly turned her head but my front teeth had already pinched a dulap of skin right beneath her jaw. Ready to pull back the Doe reared her front end up awkwardly her front hooves striking the ground her struggle to stand becoming successful as she pulled herself up weakly causing my grip to falter.
Looking to me and then back behind her in the distance her bleats were carried away on the wind, my paws picking up as I slowly began advancing on her once again. Looking to her injured leg I turned my body slightly to left then lunged forward vice gripping the lower part of her broken leg between my jaws and jerking backwards. Crying out she tried to stammer forward and kick her injured leg but I had the upper hand in this battle. Releasing the lower area of her leg then quickly latching on to the upper part near her hawk I planted my paws pushing my claws into the earth and with dangerous strength began jerking the Doe sideways. Her front leg splaying out as she fought to stay upright I twisted my body the opposite way, set back on my haunches, twisted my shoulders and half swung/half drug the doe her front legs stuttering in their movements, her right leg giving out under the off balanced pressure as she bleated crazily before losing her ability to stay up and tumbled to her side.
Her head now lying past my rear by a foot or so her legs the same distance away facing my side I waited. Attempting to fight she quickly gave up and laid her head into the earth, her sides heaving as she labored for air. Rearing up and jumping straight down I viced her throat in my mouth crunching down and shaking viciously as if she were merely a rag doll in my grip. Her bleats now wonky and raspy as I cut her air flow off eventually came to a near stop a sound only being made every so often as I bit down harder. Wolf or not I tried to keep my prey from suffering too much If they didn't deserve it. As a few seconds passed by the Doe stopped fighting only shifting her right leg now and again in discomfort.
Tasting her sweet essence hot on my tongue I finally released her then lifted my head looking to my right to the path where I traveled from sketching out a more proper route to get back to Call. Deciding on a path less cluttered with brambles and branches I turned my head back down to grab the doe for the trip back when I was suddenly struck. Everything happened in the bl
ink of an eye, my bottom jaw slammed into the ground then was struck and thrown sideways. Black dots clouded my vision and for a second I lost my hearing and sight. Shaking my head and quickly stumbling back my legs spread out In front of me on instinct as I wobbled side to side my hearing and sight coming back in pulses. Dragging my eyes open everything was blurred but I saw the Doe striking her front legs out and grunting weakly her tongue lolling from her mouth.
Panting a few times a cough shook my frame before I could shake my head once more. Feeling an ache like pain envelope the left side of my face and head I shook it off. Looking back to the doe, I pulled my legs back underneath my frame and charged at her, driving my nose into her fur my fangs sinking in, breaking skin, promising for a finish this time. Shaking my head side to side once again she struck her front feet out to no avail before they crossed rigidly and her last breath whispered through her nose. Releasing her I took a few breaths then grabbed her front leg and began dragging her, making my way back to call along the forested path. Pulling mercilessly I suddenly felt a drop hit my nose and I stopped and looked to the skies for a storm. When I didn't see a trace of said storm I ignored it and began tugging her along again. Seeing a sudden yet constant dripping stream cascade over my left eye lash I licked the side of my mouth a recognized the familiar taste of my own blood.
Paying mind to the injury as I pawed my face I felt a deep gash over my left eye and half way up my head and the swollen dual pair of gashes on the side of my face. Growling I licked the blood from my paws, stood up and with a snarl grabbed the doe and began dragging her along as a plow horse would in a field, strong and with precision speed. Finally Reaching Call I dropped the Doe and panted in success. " Let's make our way back, most of the pack is awake now, did she finish off relatively easy?" I asked looking to the dead doe lying by her, lifeless.
