The sound of feminine giggling woke me from my sleep. I blinked my eyes wearily, wondering where Silvia was until pain coming back in my shoulder as a reminder of the past events. I wasn't back at the kingdom. I wasn't able to see how she was. I was here. Doing my duty for the princess's safety. That brought me little comfort.
I sat up as slow as I could. Sleeping on the ground brought a kink in my neck. I rubbed the back of my neck as I got up to my feet. I looked around to see the princess by the waters edge. I walked over and kneeled down next to her.
"Good morning, Princess Aven." (I got the name right this time. :u )
I said, my deep voice breaking the morning silence. I took my non wounded arm and leaned down to splash water on my face. After waking myself up some, I looked over at the armor that the princess had taken off. I'd have to try and put that on before we left.
"Grab all of your things, if you brought anything. I'd like to leave as soon as we can."

"Good morning, Princess Aven." (Good job CH, -applauds-)
Aven jumped and looked over. How did he manage to do that? For such a big guy you'd expect he's make some sort of noise. But she nodded at what he said, even though she didn't have anything.
"They took everything." She sighed looked over at the water again. "But you're right, they have day ahead of us." She stood up and wandered over to her horse and patted his neck. They only had one horse, and he was obviously going to make her ride it. But then again, she wouldn't ob
ject. She looked over at the knight. "Are you sure you're fit to ride?" She asked, running a hand through her raven hair, eyeing his wound. She didn't want it to open again. But she wondered how much of that was her general concern and what was her own selfishness of not wanting to be left alone.

I followed the princess as she left the water and walked over to her horse. The image of her patting the horses neck reminded me of Silvia once again. She had wanted a horse of her own, all pure white. She made me promise I'd get her one when we stopped living in the kingdom. I should have stopped making promises I couldn't keep.
"Are you sure you're fit to ride?"
I blinked, coming back to the present. I looked down at my wound, wincing slightly at the image. "It doesn't matter if I'm fit to ride or not, Princess. We have to get you to that kingdom."
Plus, they might have better bandages at the kingdom anyways. Seeing as the princess had no other bright ideas, I took a try at being more commanding.
"We'll need to get there as soon as possible so we'll both ride _____ (*<< Place horses name there.*) I'll need you to sit front to hold the reins. The movement on my shoulder might very well open the wound. Do you think you could do that for me, Princess?"
My voice was it's normal deep when I was first talking, but as I got to the question, my voice turned more soft. She had the right to behead me if I spoke too commanding to a royal, so the question only seemed the way to get me out of that right of death.

Aven nodded, this was actually the first time she was paying attention to him. His voice was deeper than other other mans she'd heard before. Not that she'd been around men much, just the servants and the occasional get together with the kingdoms richest. But there none of the guys paid her attention. They all flocked to her sister who was glad for the attention. "Yeah, sounds like a plan." She sighed patting black horse again. "Think you can carry two Alcyone?" she asked the horse who winnied in response and snorted. She giggled lightly and patted the animal fondly before placing a light kiss on his nose.
She went around to the side and hefted herself over his side. This was awkward in a dress, and her mother would be very upset at the fact that she wasn't sitting like a proper lady. She smiled slightly at the thought as she grabbed onto the reins. "Alright." She said looking down at the knight. Then a thought hit her, she didn't realize how close the knight would be sitting to her. She fought the blush that threatened to creep into her cheeks.

The first thing I noticed when she looked back at me after jumping on Alcyone was her cheeks reddening. She seemed to do that a whole lot lately. Once she was on and I was sure she was secure, I went to Alcyone, being as gentle as possible with words and touch as I got him to followed me to a big rock. I couldn't jump on the horse like the princess had or I would just mess up my shoulder even more. Climbing on the rock, I sat on the horse. I then realized something awkward. I had no idea where to put my hands, the princess's back pressing into my chest, what was I to do, hold onto her waist the way she would to me if our positions were changed? That's all I really could do.
"Forgive me."
I said to her, trying not to say it right in her ear so she wouldn't think I was trying to seduce her. My fingers tips hovered at the side of her waist, ready to grab on only if I felt myself unbalance. Other then that, I wouldn't be touching the princess. There's another thing that could cause me to be punished, just merely touching her for my own safety on the horse.

The horse seemed to sense the awkwardness and snorted a laugh. Aven frowned and kicked the horses side to get him to start. She supposed he was right, the situation would be funny. If she was on the ground watching and not here feeling the knights armour pressed against her back and his hands floating around her waist, ready to hold one for whatever reason. At least he was kind enough to not actually place his hand on you. She thought to herself, as she steered the horse around a rock. If he had, she'd probably be thinking about it the entire way and not focus on the riding at all.
She coughed lightly from the awkwardness and turned her eyes around the forest, trying to think of anything else beside the man pressed against her back. "So..." She started, unsure of what to actually say, "Tell me about yourself."
Hopefully this was a way for to figure what this man's name was. And get to know the man she'd be spending the next couple weeks with.

I winced as the horse started to walk, my fingertips once in a while brushing against her waist from the way we swayed back and forth. But, that alone was enough to make any man's imagination fly. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying as hard as I could to only have respect for the beautiful princess in front of me.
"So..." I heard the princess say, breaking the extremely awkward silence, other then the horses hooves on the ground. "Tell me about yourself."
My nose scrunched up for a moment, something I did sometimes when I thought hard. It reminded me of Sarah, who always thought it adorable when I did that. I found it a habit, one that made me look odd. Whatever.
"My name is Travis."
I said, realizing she needed something to call me, my low voice so different from her feminine one. Was I willing to tell her the rest, about Sarah and Silvia? No. The royals don't care about stuff like that. I wondered why she even cared enough to ask the question.
"That's it."
I murmured quietly, my lips forming a frown.

"Well, I guess it's not my place to pry, Sir Travis." She sighed, frowning slightly; glad her back was to him. Aven was relieved she now knew his name, but she expected...more. She just needed something to fill this horribly awkward silence. And she couldn't just talk about herself, he might think of her as conceited. Plus, most of her life was public knowledge anyways; when she started walking, her love for music, how she was about to marry a prince she didn't know.
She forced the latter thought from her mind. Nope, she'd face that problem when they got there, if they got there in time. She chewed on her bottom lip again. This silence was too much, there didn't even seem to be any chirping birds or bugs to distract her from the knights fingers brushing against her waist, of his cool armour against her back. "So, why'd you become a knight?" She spoke again, she said it wasn't her place to pry, but hell; she was going to pry. "Was it for the honour or valour that comes with the position?"
((Lol, this is probably the most awkward horse ride ever XD))

That's right it wasn't. And if you did pry, you wouldn't like what you wanted to hear. And the last thing I wanted to do is tell the tale only to place a burden on the princess's back. The awkward tension in the air was palpable. I had no idea how to break the ice, mostly because princess's usually didn't want conversation with villagers. Like we had a certain bacteria that would make her less royal or something.
So I can honestly say I was beyond surprised when she asked me the following.
"So, why'd you become a knight?"
I took a deep breath, forcing my solid chest to press against her back even more - though I didn't do that intentionally. As my mind got distracted from my position - I was working very hard not to touch her while being on this horse - my legs brushed against hers on the side of the horse, my fingertips were as well against her waist. I couldn't help it, my legs were aching from squeezing against the side of the horse to keep from touching her.
"My family needed the money."
I started, my jaw clenching. I was supposed to be the man of the house. Supposed to bring enough money home for their food and shelter. I was a failure in every possible way when it came to family.
"We were in such deep poverty, being a knight was the one thing I could think of that would give me a place to stay and food to eat with out pay."
I didn't want her asking about my family, so I came out with it. It was almost like I forgot where I was, who I was speaking to... My mind got lost in the love of my family, not thinking how I spoke of things she didn't even ask of.
"But that didn't turn out very well, because I didn't get enough money for my wife. She had to be a servant while she was pregnant with my daughter, working so hard she... She passed."
I stopped there, not wanting to keep the conversation about my burdens. My eyes were glassy thinking of Sarah and I was more then glad that the princess couldn't see.
"Sorry Princess. The last thing you wanted was my whole life story."
I said with a fake chuckle to hide the sorrow that came back.

Aven listened intently, a slight frown on her face. That didn't sound ight, if she died from hard work, well that would mean that somebody down in the castle had slipped up. Her mother had said that pregnant servants were not to work hard. She knew the pain of carrying children, two no less, and she thought that it was unfair to the servants. Especially because they actually had to work to earn their keep.
"Sorry Princess. The last thing you wanted was my whole life story."
The conversation had upset him, that much was clear. "Oh, it's alright." Aven said softly, wondering if she needed to say she was sorry for his loss. He had probably heard it a million times before, and her words would be hollow and empty. She didn't know his wife, there was no way she could be sorrier than he was. He seemed like a nice enough guy, he tried his best. There were just some things you couldn't change, and no matter how many words she used, it would just never be enough.
"I trust you daughter is alright though? Right?" She said, changing to subject. Before turning her head to look over her shoulder at him for a moment before turning away to avoid a low hanging tree branch. Yep, she had upset him, his glassy eyes were confirmation of that.

She told me it was alright, which confused me. Princess's didn't care about the lousy lives of others, especially when they had too much of a great life to worry about it. I pursed my lips, finding it odd. Maybe, just maybe, she was that rare princess that was different. Though I highly doubt that.
"I trust your daughter is alright though? Right?"
My jaw worked, my heart aching. Why did we have to speak of it? "She has rheumatic fever."
I said curtly, knowing that was enough of information to say pretty much that she wasn't alright. They haven't found a remedy to fight the fever, so it's obvious that Silvia is practically dead. I chewed on my lip, wishing she'd just drop it.
"If we must talk, Princess Laina, could we find something else to talk about?"
I said, my deep voice portraying my irritation.

Just great Aven. You upset him, good going. She mentally berated herself. Now she'd be here the entire ride knowing that she was keeping the man away from his sick daughter. The girl probably wanted her daddy and he was here, with her with a wounded shoulder that could possibly become infected because she probably did a bad job. oh god! What if she did do a bad just and it got infected? Then he'd die, and never see his daughter again. oh you idiot!She though angrily, biting her bottom lip. She shouldn't be thinking like that. Horses can smell anxiety.
The horse snorted as if knowing what she was thinking. She leaned forward and patted his neck reassuringly. It had gotten awkward again, and it was her fault. As always. Oh how her mother would be disappointed that she pried. A princess was to know her place and be seen and not heard, she shouldn't pry in other people's personal business.
She was at a lost for words. She had tried conversing and failed. She might as well suffer the silence.
