I chose to mirror the princess, staying silent. It was for the best, so that I wouldn't do something I'd regret to a royal and she wouldn't have to hear another sob story. Once in a while, I was fully aware of my fingers pressed a bit more tightly against her waist as we went around hills and bumps, the horse making the slender girl jump and move a bit more then me since I was much larger. Other then that, I kept my finger tips barely touching her, my eyes straight ahead, my mouth not moving for more small talk... And I tried and tried to ignore the smell of her hair that wafted to my nose after every breeze.
Everyone admired the royals, I couldn't help but do the same. Trust me, all royals had these concoctions that made themselves smell grand. The female villagers would have to pay months wages for one of those concoctions, so they usually didn't buy it. So, it was kind of nice to smell a feminine scent that every man wishes to be wrapped around.
I heard rustling behind us in some trees on the edge of the forest we finally passed through. The sixth sense that every good knight has came in to play, and my head snapped in the direction it came from. Footsteps - quiet ones. Who ever it was, was trying to not be heard. Swallowing, I jumped abruptly from the horse with out telling the princess what was going on. She might have heard the baby foot steps but I didn't stop to ask. "Show yourself." I growled, my deep voice echoing in the eerily silent forest.
I heard more footsteps and my heart started beating faster. And, right when the foot steps came to the last bush, I lifted my sword, ready to fight this beast. Or hick. (|D) Or bandit. Whoever the case, I was going to fight it unti the death.
A bunny came from the bushes, and out of the forest where we were, innocently hopping passed us to find a better place to hide from my intimidating sword. My shoulders slumped, the tips of my ears burning. I even face palmed myself from being so stupid. I should have known other bandits weren't going to come after us-
Knowing fighting the guy wasn't a option, I put the sword away, and slipped passed the bandit that was still looking at the wound from my teeth on his arm. I had a horrible taste in my mouth, maybe some of his blood, but that didn't matter now. What mattered now was getting the princess to safety. And then to her prince. So, with out much appropriateness on my part, I jumped on the horse, one arm tightly wrapped around her waist to keep her in place, as the other hand slapped the horses rump as hard as I could. The horse sped out of the clearing. Horses hooves were behind us shortly and I turned my head, partly to shake the black hair from my fiery green eyes, and partly because I wanted to see how many were chasing us. At least 10, maybe more, bandits from before were close to hard on our heels. I slapped the horses rump again, and turned my head to look straight ahead again. "Hold on, Princess!" I screamed over the sound of all of the horses running, swords unsheathing, and the blood that roared in my ears.
Only moments passed of running hard on the horse before another forest came into view, thank goodness for our part. A forest could hide us easily. As the forest's entrance came more into view, that relief soon turned to dread. It was one of seven Dark Forests in the world, and out of all of the forests, we had to run into this one. The entrance had a evil that spread across the vicinity, wrapping around my heart and latching on. Breathing all of a sudden became hard, as my fear, and the evil presence, came to me. I held on to the princess tighter as her smaller body jumped around on the back of the horse. I would have let go if I was sure she was used to running this fast on a horse, but even I took a while before I got used to holding on steadily on a horse going this fast, and I didn't want to risk her going off. I'd apologize for my touching her later on.
I came a couple feet away from the entrance, a dew hoveredover the leaves. Something that seemed like black smoke covered the entrance, probably what was making me breath so much more heavy. Shadows lurked inside the forest, beckoning to take us in. I swallowed. This was the only way for the princess to be safe of the bandits, even if that meant we both die in the process. I slapped the rump of the horse again, forcing her (Or him.) to run full speed into the forest. After mere seconds of running in, twigs came to life, wrapping around the horses ankles and tripping the poor steed. From the jolt, me and the princess went flying from the safety of the horse. I landed on my back in a black mud a couple yards away from the horse with a stench that made me dizzy. The breath was knocked from my lungs, and I heard the voices of the bandits outside at the entrance.
"Well I'm not killing myself going in The Dark Forest." Others, "No way, no how. I ain't going in." And a meek voice saying, "I'd rather burn to death then go in there. They're probably dead already, I don't see them." Soon after, while I stayed where I was on the muddy ground so they wouldn't know we were still alive, I heard horses hooves leaving the vicinity. I stayed where I was for a count of five minutes, the smell of the mud making me more dizzy and tired so I kept my eyes closed. The evil from before was close to suffocating me but I had to find the princess. Maybe we could get out of the forest since we were so close to the entrance. I lifted my head, and, though it was hard, came to my feet, my vision blurry. What was that stuff in the mud? Swallowing, I tried blinking off the dizziness and blurriness, the princess not coming in sight. The black mud covered the whole front of my body, but I ignored it. "Princess?" I whispered, the shadows seeming to listen. "Princess, I'm over here. I can't see you. Are you hurt?"

Yep, she had official ruined the mood. Aven frowned at the thought; the silence had just made her all the more aware of the man behind her. She immediately felt self-conscious; nervously moving a hand to sweep her hair to the side, to try and keep it from flying into the man’s face. She was bouncing a little more than him, and every once in a while she felt his fingers press in more to her waist, not sure if he was doing it to keep her from falling off, or for himself.
Aven trying to control her breathing didn't notice the forest around her. It wasn't until the knight had jumped off her horse that she noticed something. The forest was deathly silent, not even the birds were chirping. She bl[injection]inked and looked down at the knight, her horse shifting nervously. Something was up.
Aven seemed to mirror her horse when Travis called out. Her eyes grew wide and she shifted on the horse, playing with the reins. She jumped when a rabbit came darting out from the brush. She relaxed slightly and placed a hand on her chest, feeling her heart fluttering. Smiling slightly, she turned her head to look at the knight only to see him being choked.
She didn't know what to do; she reached for the bow and heard someone near her. "Now, I wouldn't do that if I were you." Came a voice from behind a tree. This was stupid; they should have known that more of those bandits would be looking for them.
The next thing she knew, the knight had somehow jumped onto the horse and he wrapped a large arm around her waist. She didn't say anything, though in her mind she was she screaming. Everything seemed to be a blur, she didn't even complain when he hit her horse.
Though she then it the forest she realize what was happening. Oh no, she didn't want to go in there, she tried to pull on the rein to slow down the horse, but Travis spurred him faster. No, no, no, no, she did not want to go in there. Of all the places this was the worst. She never been outside of the castle, there was no way she could go in the Dark Forest.
But here she was, crashing through the trees. Travis spurring her hose onward. "Stop, you'll kill him!" she yelled trying to pull on the reins to slow him down. Only too suddenly feel herself go flying.
If it wasn't for the mud, cushioning her fragile body she might have been more hurt. But the air was forced from her lungs, and her head was spinning. She saw black spots and for a moment, wondered how she hit her head. Vaguely, she heard someone calling out princess and she bl[injection]inked. Sitting up, she instantly saw black spots in her vision and the forest was spinning. Placing a hand on her head, she wondered if the slick substance on her fingers was mud, or blood.
"I'm..."She stopped and bl[injection]inked for a moment. “Travis, I, I'm over here." She called out whipping her head around squinting. The only thing was, she didn't know where 'here' was.
The sounds of something moving through the mud reached her ear. She squinted in the darkness, noticing that a fog hung in the air. Squinted she made out a shape coming towards her. She sighed, relieved that the man had come for her. "Sir Travis, are you alright?" She asked softly, blinking. Her head was spinning; she was now sure the slick substance on her fingers was now blood.
"I, I think I hit my head." She said, her voice wavering as if she was on the verge of tears. She looked back to the fog and squinted again. Something wasn't right. Why wasn't he speaking to her? She must have hit her head harder than she thought.
"Sir Travis?" She said again, wiping moister from her eyes with her back of her hand. Looking around again, she didn't see the form anymore. She blinked again, this wasn't right. Her eyes were playing tricks. She cleared her throat and tried to sit up, feeling something wet press against her and help her up. "Travis?" Her voice was slow, and weak. She turned her head slightly and saw she was face to face the ugliest thing she had ever seen. She screamed and the monster roared before sinking down into the mud. "Travis!" She screamed again, her voice urgent as she turned onto her knees and tried to crawl away from the mud.
She felt something latch onto her ankle and she screamed, kicking wildly to get her foot from his grip. Why did her father send her, why not her sister? Better yet, why couldn't the Prince just come to her? She wasn't suited for this!
