Ace was wrenched out of his 'daydreaming' as the girl cried out. He looked over the railing of the bridge to see a book falling towards the rushing water below and land with a sharp splash. The girl quickly ran off to intercept it, but Ace knew it wold be useless. The book had fallen from a good distance off of the bank, there was no way she could get it from there. Though the idea of watching her get soaked from trying to find the book in the water appealed to him, he didn't want her to get a cold or something.
He slipped out of his light jacket as he jogged toward the bank where the girl was worriedly panicking. he dropped both it and his backpack on the ground as he kicked off his shoes and dove into the water. Had it been any earlier in the season, the water would have been too cold to swim in, but as it was, it wasn't too bad. He judged how far the book would have been carried by the current and pounded at the water, letting the current carry him.
he caught sight of it bobbing along the surface and dove after it, reaching out to grasp it... Got it!! Despite the fact that he now had only one arm to swim with, he did rather well as he made it back to the bank a little ways down from where he had first dove in. he pulled himself up onto the bank and shook his hair out, suddenly remembering that he hated wearing jeans when they were wet.
