"Oh? I have heard of those. They are the ones that can get big, and are very friendly cats, da? I have heard them described as the dogs of the cat world." Ivan responded, recalling a pet show he'd once seen on television. Then, when Alfred pointed out where the condensed milk was supposed to go, he nodded his thanks and attended to the cupboard in question. There were a few things that went in there, but he soon moved on to other items, asking Alfred where each type of item went as he continued - apart from the fridge stuff, as that was obvious. "That does sound very entertaining." He chuckled, "Do you have laser pointer? I have heard that kitties love to chase a red dot around." Most of the supplies were packed away by now, and Ivan was starting to put away the last of it - his vodka.

"Actually I don't have a laser pointer," Alfred responded with a chuckle. "But I do have feather toys and one of those little remote-controlled mine that she'll actually chase," he responded, looking down at Penny again. "You know, I actually got her for my birthday a couple years back. That's why I named her Independence," he said, tilting his head a little bit. "But that was such a mouthful I just nicknamed her Penny."

Those toys sounded like fun to Ivan, and he smiled, imagining the frolics that could be facilitated with such playthings. "Hmm? Well, I did wonder why you chose that name, but I understand it now - it makes sense." He responded, "Did you get her as kitten or grown cat?" He wondered, mildly curious. There was no real reason to ask, it had simply occurred to him, and he was now imagining what Penny would have looked like as a little kitten. It was very sweet to picture, and his ex pression reflected that - it looked almost as though he was a child who had zoned out while snuggling a new teddy bear.

"I got her as a kitten," Alfred responded with a soft smile, a glance up at Ivan causing him to pause a moment. His ex pression probably meant he was imagining his cat as a tiny ball of fluff, which was basically all she was when he got her. However, the effect it had on Alfred was basically causing his cheeks to color slightly as his mind decided to supply in the fact that Ivan was absolutely adorable and that he had already decided he wanted to keep on seeing how adorable Ivan was.

Ivan was distracted from his fuzzball-related reverie when Alfred spoke up, and he glanced across so as to not appear to be inattentive. "Ahh, so cute~ Kittens are very sweet, da? Do you have any pictures of when she was small?" He responded, eager to behold the sight with his own eyes. Why has he gone pink? He wondered to himself, bemused. It is rather sweet~ Ahh, but I cannot say that! What if he thinks I am being weird? Just keep to the kitty stuff, that cannot be awkward. Ivan's mind kept returning to the slight rose flush, though, wondering what was behind it, and whether he would see it more often. He thought he'd like that.

Alfred was also broken out of his train of thought, though his hadn't so much involved kittens as it had his new Russian housemate. He blinked, cleared his throat a bit, then nodded, smiling. "I do, yeah. I can go get the little album I have. I took a lot of pictures of her as she was growing up," he said with a soft laug, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "When she was little she was basically a ball of fluff with legs and eyes." He grinned. "Hard to believe she grew up into such a pretty cat."

Ivan looked as though he was a kid with ice cream, his eyes aglow with unspoken delight, and his mouth curled upwards as he took in Alfred's words and imagined tiny Penny. "That is sounding adorable~" He fairly gushed, being more demonstrative of his emotion than he had for most of the day - though there had been moments. "Kitten-Penny sounds so precious~" If there was one thing that could set him off like this, it was cute baby animals, and this was no exception. In fact, it was particularly effective, as the animal in question was in possession of a significant quantity of fuzziness. He'd been teased about this sort of thing before, Dmitri - for example - had told him that he acted like a little girl, but he somehow knew that Alfred wouldn't even begin to mock him about this. Besides, what pet owner objects to someone calling their pet adorable? "Yes please, I would enjoy looking at those pictures~"

And there it was again. Ivan being absolutely adorable. He bit his tongue a bit to keep from saying such out loud, instead grinning and starting out of the kitchen. "I'll go look for it then. Make yourself at home, man," he told him, heading off towards his bedroom so he could begin to both dig through his things and get his thought processes under control. He needed to calm down, calm his brain down, just...calm everything down. Clear thoughts. Thoughts about cats. Yeah, that worked. Focus on talking about Penny.
Despite all this, he...actually felt like he should make a mention o the fact that Ivan was being adorable as all hell, but...he still decided against it. He had still only just met the guy, no need to possibly risk frightening him off, despite that persistent nagging in the back of his mind that kept telling him he wouldn't do any such thing.

"Certainly~" Ivan responded cheerfully, wondering whether there was something on Alfred's mind. He'd seemed a little distracted... Maybe he was also picturing fluffy baby Penny? That would explain it. Satisfied with his own explanation, Ivan began peeking into cupboards in order to find out where all the utensils, plates, pots and things were kept. Since he was in the room, he figured he might as well find out where everything was. After all, they'd be making dinner in here eventually, so it would be best if he knew where to find stuff. The big Russian was blissfully oblivious to the indecision he'd triggered in Alfred's mind, for all that he'd had a similar moment of say it/don't say it. Humming softly to himself, he wondered vaguely whether Penny was to be the only surprise. Ah, well, whatever happened was unlikely to be bad - he trusted Alfred.

It took a solid ten minutes for Alfred to actually find the album, the young man smiling a little bit as he flipped it open. He didn't look much different in the first photo he had of her, seeing as it was only around three years ago, but you could definitely tell he was younger then. He closed the cover again before he stood up and started out of his room, closing his door behind him and tucking the book under his arm. Since he didn't see Ivan in the living room on the couch, he poked his head into the kitchen, holding up the book so Ivan could see it. "Found it!" he said rather cheerily, grinning.
((Also btw Alfie does still wear glasses but only during classes and stuff where the things he has to read has small print ;v; ))

((He's cute either way~ I imagine that seeing him with the glasses on will provoke some major deja vu for Ivan, though. :3))
Ivan straightened up, having found the pots and pans, and ambled closer when Alfred strode back into the room. "So I see~" He responded, quite pleased. He hadn't minded that it had taken a little while for Alfred to return with the book, as it had given him time to acquaint himself more thoroughly with the kitchen. Besides, who knew where the book had been, or how much stuff it had been nestled amongst? "Shall we look at it in your living room?" He asked hopefully, "I think I have found all that I will need to use in here."

"Let's go for it, yeah," Alfred responded with a grin as he lead Ivan over to the couch, flopping down onto it and opening up the book on his lap, flipping the cover around. "I got her when I turned sixteen," he said with a soft laugh, pointing to the first of him holding the little ball of fluff that was Penny. "It was also the same day I got the car I'm driving, but I'm pretty sure I liked getting Penny more than I did a car."

Ivan sat down next to Alfred, though with less careless abandon than his friend, and gazed down at the picture that was being pointed out. “Uuahh, so cute!” He exclaimed, his tone not quite a girly squeal. “Baby Penny looked like a little pompom of loveableness~” He could quite understand why Alfred had enjoyed his kitten acquisition more than obtaining a car – after all, cars did not make sweet little faces, look up at you with big round eyes, make cute sounds, or lend themselves well to being snuggled. Kittens, on the other hand, were much more proficient at such things, and often engaged in playful and amusing antics – and the fluffiness, of course, went without saying. The Alfred in the picture looked cute as well, all happy and smiling and kitty-holding, but he wasn't going to say that out loud. “It makes me want to
reach into the picture and give baby Penny a tickle under the chin~”

Alfred laughed, grinning. "Oh don't worry, she got plenty of that from me. I'm honestly amazed she puts up with m after I practically smothered her with love," he said, turning the page to show Ivan several more pictures of Penny from around the same time, usually with Alfred in the picture as well, playing with her. "My parents seemed to love taking pictures of me when I was playing with her," he said with a soft chuckle, turning to the next page after giving Ivan enough time to look at the pictures there.
And then he blinked, tilting his head a bit as he looked down at a picture of him asleep at his desk, drooling over homework most likely, with Penny curled up on his back, asleep as well. "I don't remember seeing this picture," he said softly, sounding curious. "I guess it was slipped in before I moved out..."

Ivan cooed over each photo he was shown, blissfully gazing at the endearing scenes captured therein. "I cannot blame them, they have left very cute record of both you and the little sweetie you brought home." He chuckled, reflecting that he would likely have felt the same urge to document the loveable overload that he was being shown. Alfred didn't seem to think that his reaction was silly, which he appreciated, and he had to admit to himself that he liked the way the American smiled.
Ivan giggled a little when the snooze photo turned up, finding it both sweet and kind of funny - particularly as Penny had also been asleep. "Perhaps it was left in as a surprise? That was nice of them. Is quite sweet~" He commented, reasoning that he could get away with calling the whole image that without letting on that this perception extended to the napping Alfred as well as the kitty.

Alfred smiled. "I'm pretty sure I remember the night that was taken, actually," Alfred said with a soft laugh, glancing up as Penny herself decided to grace them with her presence, hopping onto the couch to force her way onto Alfred's lap, purring quietly as he began to pet her. "I had to stay up to study for a test," he said, pointing to just beside his face where a white cord was shown draping down into his pocket. "I was listening to music to help me focus and I fell asleep halfway through. I barely passed that thing," he said with a soft chuckle. "But hey, I did still pass at the very least!" He scooted the photo album up a little bit so Penny had more room across his lap. "And yeah, she was pretty cute wasn't she?" He grinned a little wader, rubbing underneath Penny's chin to make her purr louder. "I was the only one she'd sleep with, so I guess it fits that she'd end up sleeping on me if I wasn't in bed."

So that was what had been going on. Ivan had wondered what the context was. He hadn't noticed the cord before, though, and he mused on the music player briefly, wondering what type of music Alfred had been listening to. It wasn't as though he knew Alfred's tastes yet, so it was difficult to guess, but he had a strange feeling that he would know it when he heard it. “I have had tests like that, though not with a cat.” He responded, thinking about the time he'd been right up against the deadline for an essay he needed to submit. “I have not tried studying while listening to music, but I do tend to hum when I am writing.” He added, wondering whether his aimless humming actually counted as music. Probably not, given that it was usually fairly tuneless when he wasn't paying attention to it, but oh well. “I suppose that she must have decided that you were her favourite person. It is rather sweet that she would follow you into slumber in such a manner~” He mused, tentatively reaching out towards Penny, extending his hand for her to sniff. He didn't want to startle her, but he really wanted to pet her, so he figured that this would be a good way to introduce himself.

Penny leaned forward to lightly sniff at Ivan's hand, blinking once before she simply set her head down, not seeming agitated or anything by his presence. Alfred chuckled quietly before he turned the page of the photo album again, this set of pictures a mix of Alfred with Penny and just Penny on her own...usually sleeping or staring up at the camera. "Oh hey now we're getting to where I started taking pictures of her," he said, seeming excited. "They weren't too great at first though," he said with a laugh.
"Oh speaking of pictures I said I'd print out that one of you and the butterfly didn't I?" Alfred said, blinking once. "Want me to go ahead and do that or did you want to keep looking through the album?
((Omg have you listened to White Flame yet? IT's sung my Russia and it's 17 minutes long and what I've heard so far is REALLY nice.))

((I was just listening to it yesterday~ It's pretty awesome, and the translated lyrics are quite interesting.))
Ivan grinned like an idiot, happy to have apparently been accepted by the cat, and began to gently stroke her head. She was very soft, just as he had thought she would be. It was soothing, petting Penny, and he wondered if it was soothing for pets when they were stroked. Probably, he reckoned, or else why did they like it so much?
"They look fine to me." Ivan responded, slightly puzzled. Not really being an expert on photography, he wasn't particularly concerned with whether the shots were taken in a certain way or not. They contained adorable fuzziness, and were not majorly blurred, therefore he liked them.
"Hmm? I see no reason that both cannot happen." He added, when Alfred reminded him about the butterfly picture. "Perhaps we should deal with the new photo first, though, in case it gets forgotten. How does that sound?"

((I also listened to Einsemkeit and it's a really nice song too omg))
Alfred smiled a bit. "Well, all I did was take two kinds of pictures of her at first," he set, handing over the photo album and lifting up Penny so he could stand up. "And how about you and Penny get to know each other better while I go print that out, yeah?" He grinned, watching as Penny simply flopped onto the couch, stretched out where he had placed her beside Ivan. "It shouldn't take too long," he added, pulling out his phone so he could fiddle with it to get the tiny little SD card out of it before turning to start towards his room again.
