Xander heard the commotion and saw Dev yelling to Echo, who looked a lot like she was about to leave with a lot of important information. "Lucky I happened to be going this way." he said to himself as he quickly aimed down the sights on his sniper rifle. He didn't need anyone to tell him it would be bad if she got away with all that intel. Firing the first shot at the front tire of Echo's bike, Xander continued on to the next tire and proceeded to get a good aim on her left leg, in case she tried to run.
Even if she did, Dev was close enough that she could catch her by now. But Xander was pretty far away so his only hope was that she stayed in the open and didn't fall back behind one of the trees. Having pondered this, he had no qualms about shooting her leg now, and yanked the trigger back, firing the third shot.

Parker watched the scenery pass out the driver side window,the Oklahoma scenery was pretty dry these days. She knew that a lot of other areas were having an issue with droughts and it showed. There were dry trees and grass in most places, the cows lazily looked out of dead eyes across pastures. She tapped the steering wheel as she drove along the highways through Oklahoma, making sure to set the cruise control. She didnt want to linger too long but she knew they wouldnt make good time on the back roads. She had been driving through Arkansas when she looked over to Krystal. Noting her pen and paper she asked,"Hey what is that your working on anyways?"

Krystal had been focusing on her writing, only looking out the window every now and then, not surprised by Parker's question she turned the page and began writing something else "Just progress and some ideas, also a report I was supposed to finish a couple days ago" she sunk down a bit in the seat holding the notepad tightly.

Echo groaned curses as a bullet hit her bike, she had hopped off her bike by the time the third shot was fired, it had skimmed her leg, causing horrible pain but not enough damage to prevent her from doing anything. "Are you people freaking kidding me? You know, people like you are half the reason this country's gone down hill! You shoot without knowing what your dealing with, how do you know I was gonna drive off? Maybe I was going to offer you a ride because its clear that your injured!" She glared at Dev stepping forward, ignoring the pain in her leg.

Parker smiled at Krystals short response, and turned her gaze back out the window. She was used to this by now, Krystal could be secretive. They were like night and day at times, Parker always liked to share her work. It made her feel good to have feedback or to show off her accomplishments. She was usually too excited to really hold back anyways. "So Kaz?" she turned her attention to the dog, pushing her sunglasses to the top of her head. She peered at him through the rearview mirror. "Are we enjoying our ride good boy? When we get to Dev's we are going to have a good ol time. I'm going to teach you how to sneak up on Xander." She grinned widely at the silence that followed her little joke.

Dev was a mad at Xander for shooting without even consulting her. She had a feeling she was just messing around that's why she hadn't called Xander. Dev called Xander and while it was ringing she talked to Echo. "Look, Echo I'm sorry for my colleagues behavior and mine." Dev said. 'When Xander answers his phone he won't hear the end of this.' Dev thought and cursed

Krystal was relieved that Parker didn't ask anymore questions even though she usually didn't anymore. Turning the page back she began to write again, wondering about when they would arrive at Dev's base in Florida, "I don't think Xander would be very happy with you if you did. Plus he's a hard one to sneak up on" she rolled her eyes as she looked back at Kaz who seemed happy as always.

Echo's glare lightened but she still held her gaze, 'Your general has a right to not trust me' she thought silently then shook her head and relaxed a little bit more. "So what am I to do about my bike now then? One of the bullets ricocheted off the tire and went into the engine." She said with a hint of anger in her tone, her bike was one of the little things she had left and she didn't want to give it up that easily.

'Parker' Dev though. "I know someone who can fix your bike. For now we'll keep at the base and you can borrow one of your vehicles." Dev said still waiting for Xander to pick up.

"Ahhh." Parker began. Holding up a finger as if making a point. "That is the beauty of it, Kaz and i will have to be super ninja's." Sadly Parker had yet to this day manage to successfully sneak up on Xander. She however,never stopped trying, she was determined to make this a "thing" She made karate motions with her hands for a moment. "Besides, he must be nice to me or I wont fix his stuff." she laughed.

Xander pulled out his phone when he heard it ring. From the reactions he could see, Dev wasn't going to be happy when he picked up, but Xander pressed the button anyway and held the phone to his ear, waiting for her to start wildly spilling out angry comments about understanding the situation before taking action and other things he didn't exactly want to hear right now.

Dev heard the beep and inhaled deeply. "WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING? SHOOT FIRST AND ASK QUESTIONS LATER?! GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE AND BRING A VEHICLE AND A FIRST AID KIT TOO. ALSO WHEN YOU GET DOWN HERE APOLOGIZE TO ECHO.I SWEAR SOMETIMES YOU ACT LIKE A FOOOOLLL!!" Dev exhaled and hung up.

As he closed his phone, Xander swung his sniper rifle over his back. "If Echo wasn't trying to get away with information, she wouldn't have done something like this. And if this is some sort of attempt to make Dev lose faith in me as a General, I'm going to have to tread carefully."
Although he knew Dev was not happy with his decision, he wouldn't have done it differently if he had the chance. Something was off about this girl, he didn't want to take any chances with her. If Dev couldn't see it, Xander would have to be her eyes. With an exhausted sigh, he leapt down from the rock he'd been sniping from and headed back to the base to get a vehicle and a first aid kit.

Krystal shook her head unamused "Super ninja's? You are so disappointing on so many levels" she took a deep breath then closed her notepad and put it on the floor board next to her bag. "Xander is only nice to Dev sometimes and you know that" she started before looking at the GPS trying to figure out about where they were, "Plus if you keep trying to bug him everytime we visit he will be in a bad mood everytime." she gave a slightly mischievous glare at Parker.

Echo stood still and watched as Dev yelled at Xander through the phone 'Wow, love hate relationship, interesting' she thought in a silent snicker then grabbed her bag which fell on the ground when she hopped off the bike. "Is it always this tense here?" She asked looked back at Dev knowing that she probably just ticked her off.

"Dont be jealous of my skills." Parker laughed at Krsytal. "What? No Xander loves me." she was super serious. She looked at Krystal through her glasses in a very wide eyed manner. Parker loved everyone was probably a more accurate statement. She did however, truly believe she was universally liked. "We will be in Mississippi soon," she yawned. The sun had started to set and dusk was creeping up over the horizon.

Dev sighed. She was worn out and even though she had barely moved her shoulder but it hurt more and more every second. 'Maybe, I need to calm down a bit.' Dev wondered. Taking a few deep breaths she walked over to Echo. "Why don't you sit down so I can look at your leg?" Dev asked.

Xander packed a first aid into the back of a black jeep from the garage and started the engine, driving faster than he normally would. Dev was already annoyed, he might as well try to do this quickly and efficiently.
He stopped where Dev and Echo were and hopped out of the driver seat. Pulling out the first aid kit, he walked over and opened it, beginning to take out the things he would need to fix up Echo's leg. He didn't say anything, but perhaps he felt obligated to help because he's the one who shot her in the first place.
Stealing a glance at Dev, he hoped she wouldn't stay angry at him for long. Especially since he did most of this stuff for Dev's sake, even when she thought he was doing everything wrong.

"Mhm, yeah I'm just SO jealous" Krystal said teasingly, tilting her head to the side, "You know, its hard to tell if Xander actually loves anybody" she said looking at the sky, it was starting to get dark. Hearing Parker yawn she stretched a bit before unbuckling and looking at her "You sound like your getting a bit tired, are we going to switch or shall I get you a Monster?"

Echo cautiously sat down, leaning against her bike so she wouldn't fall backwards then when Xander came speeding in she clutched her fist, studying him for any sign of harshness.

Dev examined the wound on Echo's leg and caught Xander's glance. Then and there Dev made a decision. "Why don't you tend to it Xander, it's the least you could do?" Dev said giving him a huge smile. Dev wasn't really angry just frustrated. She wasn't clueless as everyone thinks she is.

"Show me the caffeine." Parker laughed ruefully. She rubbed the makeup out from underneath her eyes, and adjusted the mirror. She flipped the headlights on, making sure her high beams were not selected. "We should be there early tomorrow evening at this rate." she rapped on the dashboard and looked over at Krystal, awaiting her drink.

"Already one step ahead of you." Xander said, cleaning out Echo's wound before dabbing it with a cloth. Though he generally had a cold look about him, he was surprisingly gentle, as not to cause any more pain than needed from being hasty. He actually knew quite a bit about first aid despite the common speculation that he was a killer and not a healer.
"I wasn't shooting to kill, you know," he said suddenly to Echo as he worked. He spoke as though it was the closest thing she would get to an apology, because he wasn't sorry about it and he wanted her to know he wouldn't hesitate to shoot her again if she tried anything. But more than that, he wanted her to know that he wasn't trying to kill her back there. He was merely thinking about the safety of all the people at the base, including Dev. If that information got out, things could go very wrong.
But it's not like he could actually say all that with one sentence and he wasn't about to sit and explain himself either. Echo was pretty smart though, she could figure it out. "I'm not that bad of an aim." he finished with a smirk as he put away the contents of the first aid kit. Echo's leg was good as new. ...Well, it would be soon, anyway.

Dev pressed her lips into a flat line but remained silent. She just walked away and got into the jeep. Dev put her head in her hands and ignored the pains he just caused in her shoulder. ' I need to grow up.' she thought. Dev felt bad for the way she acted but it's all a front for now. She knew Xander was just being protective.
'People who go into rebellion usually end up dead.' Dev's mothers words echoed throughout her mind. Dev sat up straight to ease the pain in her shoulder from the position she was. She looked at her shoulder and shook her head remember she nearly killed herself.
"I'll prove her wrong one day." Dev whispered with determination to herself. She sighed and looked at the sky as she waited for Xander and Echo. |
