Nena met Allen's eyes, but looked away quickly as he smiled. Why was he smiling? There wasn't any reason for him to smile, definitely not at her. It was obvious they wouldn't ever get along, and --wait, did he just compliment her? What was it he said? Her father's booming laugh echoed through the room, making her lose her train of thought. "Spirit! She's definitely strong-headed, that's for sure," he said, clapping Allen on the shoulder. Her mother came back into the room, followed by the social worker.
"That should be that, then. You'll be back tomorrow with the rest of his things, right?" Nena's mother asked the social worker. She turned to Nena. "Nena, darling, would you mind showing Allen to his room? He's in the Blue Room. Right across from yours!" she flashed Nena a smile. Nena's stomach dropped. Across from her own? In the Blue Room? That was where she had her sleepovers. Where would her friends stay?
But she didn't argue. "Yes, Mother," she said softly. "This way, Allen," she added, heading down the hall.

''Yes, yes, I'll fetch all of his things down in the morning.'' The social worker replied, giving a slight nod and a thank you, before heading out the front door and leaving. ''I'm coming.'' Allen replied, following Nena. The Blue room? What kind of a name was that? He guessed it was painted blue, or something. But across from this barbie dolls room? Seriously? Why couldn't they just stick him in the cellar? He didn't complain, though, and instead followed his new 'sister' along the hallway. He wondered what shade of blue it would be. Anything but baby blue. Baby blue... sucked. Indigo and ice blue, now those were real colours. He loved both of those colours. Red, too, but it was called the blue room, so he doubted it was crimson. He wondered what he'd do for the evening now. Normally, he played guitar for a little while, but his guitar was back at the orphanage, so that crossed that out from his list of things to do.

Nena didn't really understand the Blue Room; it wasn't blue at all. It was all panelled wood, dark and shiny. The bed had a dark blue spread on it, and there was a pretty blue and white vase on the table in the corner, but other than that, the room was bare. She opened the door, and felt along the wall for the light. "Here it is," she said quietly. She just wanted to go to bed, to get away from this boy who was already turning her life upside down. "Dad will probably take you to get....whatever you want for it, tomorrow. And probably clothes, too." She turned away, intending to retreat into the saftey of her room.

''Why is this called the blue room?'' He asked, not bothering to walk into it. He wasn't tired in the slightest, and the dark wood of the room didn't really seem like a very inviting place to sleep. Plus, he was curious; he always was. ''I mean, there's barely any blue in here.''

Nena stopped with her hand on the doorknob to her room. She sighed. "I don't actually know. My parents have been calling it that since before I was born. They won't tell me why. Mostly, we don't use it for anything, which is why its practically empty. Usually my friends or my parents guests stay there." She turned towards Allen and smiled, but it was small and somewhat forced. "I don't envy you having to sleep in there. Its always sort of....creeped me out, to be honest. There's something that just --it seems a little sad, doesn't it? Depressing. Still, its much better than the Yellow Room, which actually is yellow. Horrendous shade, too. It reminds me of vomit." She was smiling in earnest, now, but it left her face as she met Allen's eyes. She looked down at the floor, instead. "But like I said. You'll be able to change the room however you like. Make yourself feel.... at home."

''Uh... thanks...'' Allen was about to turn away, when he remembered the look she'd had when her father had just shrugged her off before. Clicking his stud against his teeth again thoughtfully, he looked up again, the fact he was thinking visible in his ex pression. ''Hey, just so you know, I'm not trying to take your parents or anything... I didn't ask for this.'' That said, he turned on his heel and headed towards the blue room, closing the door gently behind him, before sitting on the bed and staring into space.

Nena stared at the closed door as if she could see through it, as if she could stare at the boy who lay just beyond it. "No," she murmured to herself. "You aren't trying to take them. But that's exactly what you're going to do." Then she turned around and slipped into her room, closing the door behind her. She fell face down onto her mattress, clutching one of her pillows tightly, and fought not to cry as she listend to the storm raging outside her window.

[[Sures. :D]] The next morning, Allen was up at the usual time for a weird kid like himself. Seven a.m, about an hour after the sun had risen. Climbing out of bed, he shrugged on the same shirt he had been wearing yesterday, as well as the same jeans, made his bed, and headed out of the room, boredly wandering around the house. As he suspected, no one was up, so he went back to his room, sat on the floor, and began to meditate. He always found it calming to meditate during a storm, as he had done last night, but when no one was up was just as good as well. Silence descended again, an eerie, creepy silence. Just the kind he liked.

Nena awoke to the sound of feet padding around by her room. She rolled over groggily to check the time --just past 7. For a moment, she tensed up --her parents would be at work by now, and she should be alone-- but then she relaxed. Allen. He must like getting up early, though Nena couldn't fathom why. Still, she was awake now, and she knew she wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. So she got up, slipping into her robe and slippers. It was cold this morning, and her thin pyjamas weren't helping. She opened the door quietly, and contemplated knocking on Allen's door and asking if he wanted breakfast, but decided against it. Smells tended to travel through the vents in the house, and if he was like any other sane person, the smell of bacon, eggs, and pancakes would draw him into the kitchen if he was hungry. She moved down the hall, and set about preparing breakfast.

Allen smelled the food the girl, Nena, was cooking up in the kitchen, but didn't bother going down for a few minutes, waiting until he had descended into complete calm. The sound of his own stomach disturbed that calm, though, and, sighing, he gave up and stood up. Heading to the door, he pushed it open, and started off downstairs, already anticipating the awkward silence that would surely follow almost immediately after he entered the room. Walking into the kitchen, he glanced around himself, clicking the stud in his lower lip against his teeth in thought yet again. His eyes were distant, and his face a little blank, as it always went when he thought.

Nena turned to place a plate of pancakes on the table just as Allen entered the room. She grabbed a plate of her own, as well as one for Allen that she placed at the table without a word, and began servering herself. When her plate was properly full, she sat down, reaching across the table for the syrup. She started putting it on her pancakes, but stopped herself before she drenched them --as well as her eggs and bacon-- in the sugary liquid. She made a small noise, staring at the bottle forlornly. She usually ate breakfast alone, and it had become her secret policy that all breakfast foods must be drowned in maple syrup. But she didn't want to do that now, not in front of another person. She reluctantly put the bottle down, wordlessly shoving it towards Allen's side of the table. She bit into a piece of pancake, and grimaced slightly. Much too dry. Her fingers twitched, wanting to reach out for the syrup again, and she gripped her fork tighter. She cleared her throat. "Did you sleep...well?" she asked, not looking up from her plate.

''Very, thank you.'' Allen replied, serving himself before sitting down also. He sat across from Nena, and didn't bother using the syrup, shaking his head, pushing it back to Nena. He was against using sweeteners on his breakfast; he preferred to just make sandwich-like constructions in which bacon and eggs are placed between two pancakes. That set, he started eating it like he would a normal pancake. Sure, he had a rather... strange way of eating, but it didn't make a difference. Why should she care how he ate his breakfast? He liked it this way, he would it this way, whether someone was watching him eat it like this or not. He knew perfectly well it was a strange way to eat.

Nena watched Allen eat with her jaw hanging open slightly. A sandwich. He'd made a freaking McMuffin out of her breakfast. She scowled at him, but then she perked up. If he was a pig, then she could drench her food in syrup without him commenting on it. With that thought in mind, she hummed and grabbed the syrup again. "My mother and father," she said after swallowing her mouthful of eggs, "are at work. They leave really early most days, but they're usually back by the afternoon. They left a note saying I'm to take you to the mall and let you look at furniture and clothes." She wrinkled her nose at the thought of having to go anywhere in public with the boy in front of her. If the girls every found out she was living with him... She shivered, and pulled her robe tighter around herself to make it seem like she was cold, and not contemplating the destruction of her social life.

Allen couldn't help but grin when she began drowning her plate in syrup. These rich kids, they all acted like snobs and as if they were above you, but they were no different, not really. The girl in front of him was evidence of that, clearly. He wondered exactly where his new 'parents' worked. Probably some snooty estate agents or holiday planner or something like that. He very much doubted the man that was to be his dad would work at a building site, or that his new mother would work in a grocery store. ''Is that so? Where exactly do they work, anyway?'' He asked her, before continuing eating. Thoughtful for a moment, he figured out why she'd shuddered. He wasn't cold, and he was in a shirt and jeans. Must've been the thought of going out in public with him. ''Oh yeah, and don't worry. You can pretend you don't know me.'' He said with a slight laugh. He was used to this kind of treatment. Everywhere he went with someone, they pretended they didn't know the punk kid tagging along.

Nena's eyes snapped up to meet Allen's, surprised. Was she that easy to
read? Surely not. She shook her head. "You don't know my friends," she
said, defensive, though she didn't know why she was bothering. "If they
see me with you, they'll eat me alive. They'll think..." she trailed
off, not wanting to think about it. She cleared her throat, nudging her
pancakes with her fork. "I'm not going to leave you alone there," she
decided finally. "It would be irresponsible. My parents wouldn't like
it." She eyed him again, before murmuring, "My mother is a college professor, of some sort. I don't know what subject she teaches; we've never talked about it. Dad's a personal trainer. That's why they're always up so early."

Allen rolled his eyes again. ''Some friends, eh? I, personally, value friendship as being when you accept another person and they accept you. Eating you alive because you're seen with someone out of the norm is really expressing friendship, hm?'' He said, finishing off his 'sandwich' before leaning back, stretching, and looking back to her. ''I won't say all you rich kids are the same. That'd be making me just as bad as some people I've met are to people with dyed hair and piercings. What I will say is this. Your worried your parents will find you irresponsible, your friends'll eat you alive. D'you ever do any real living for yourself?'' Shaking his head, he stood up, pushed his chair in, and carried his plate over to the sink before washing it and putting it in the rack.

"I...." She wanted to say she did. Because she did, didn't she? She
wanted her parents to be proud of her, and she wanted the girls to like
her. She considered their reactions when she did things because she
didn't want to lose them. She lived for herself by living for them. But
she didn't say that, didn't explain. Instead she said, "I'm going to go
take a shower. If you need to use the bathroom, its down two doors on
the right from your room. I'll use the one in my parents' room." She
stood and scooped the rest of her uneaten eggs --her stomach hurt, she
decided, and she couldn't eat anymore-- into the garbage can under the
sink. Then she rinsed her plate, nearly wincing when she bumped into
Allen. "Excuse me," she said quietly. Then more loudly she said, "We'll
leave for the mall around ten. I hope you don't mind walking; we've got
no car and I can't drive, anyways," before moving out of the kitchen
and to the shower.

Allen shook his head. Just as he thought. He was right; she didn't live for herself. Living to please others... isn't really living at all. When you make decisions yourself, and you think of what it will meanfor you if you do them, then you are truly living. Right now, she was just... on the outside, looking in at the people living their lives. Shrugging his shoulders as she said what time he was to be ready, he went and sat down on the couch to wait. What was he supposed to do for two and a half hours? Before he could think on that any longer, he heard a car pulling up outside and someone beep their horn. Going over to the window to see who it was, he saw the car of the social worker, and grinned. He'd have something to do, afterall. He opened the front door, went to the car, and popped the trunk. Neither him nor the prim woman bothered with small talk. They both knew they despised each other. Slinging his guitar case over his shouler, the strap against his chest, he picked up his two suitcases, and headed inside. Putting one down for a moment to shut the door, he grabbed hold of it again and headed up the stairs, humming to himself, as he put the suitcases on his bed.

Nena took her time getting ready; she had two hours, after all. She hummed lightly as she blow dried her hair after her shower, pinning it up once it was dry. She wrapped herself in her bathrobe and made her way to her room. When she was dressed, she reached over to grab her phone from her bedside table. "Crap," she said, after finding her phone gone. Thinking back, she realized she hadn't seen it there when she wok up, either. "Must've dropped it last night," she murmured. She had to find it; if anyone called and she didn't answer, they would think she was avoiding them, and then they'd come over and find Allen, and that just couldn't happen. She knocked lightly on Allen's door, but didn't wait for an answer to open the door. "Sorry, I just need to see if I left my-- is that a guitar?"
