It's been a week since the incident between Kimi and my brother. My stomach churned at the thought as I tightened my tie. What shame Richard has brought to this family. I was having a party today, all of my family and friends were coming. Hopefully he wouldn't come.
And I prayed so hard the day before that Kimi would come.
Part of me kept feeling selfish that I wanted her to come. She just got divorced, what made me think I all of a sudden had a chance with her?
The doorbell rang and my heart leaped; again, praying it was Kimi. I almost fell down the stairs at how excited I was to see her. Me and coordination don't mix. Sadly, it wasn't Kimi. My mother smiled back at me with wrinkles around her eyes.
"Hi mo-"
Before I could even finish, my mother wrapped her arms around me and exclaimed,
"Happy birthday, honey!"
I gulped, hoping she wouldn't act this way once everyone got here.
For some reason, I live in a house with four bedrooms. Yet, I live by myself. The job I have gets me alot of money. [[I was thinking, since we believe in the same thing, I can have Lance be a Christian. That alright? :)) ]] At my church, I was known to let people stay in one of my guest rooms. But, I still wished I wasn't alone.
"Thanks mom."
I said, squeezing her tight before letting go and shutting the door.

[[Yeah sure, Christians all the way! <3]]
Kimi was fixing her hair in the bathroom mirror of her best friend's apartment, thoughts flooding back to her of Richard. She shuddered and began to wash her face, letting the cold water run over her skin. She reached for a towel and wiped her face before going to her small room. It wasn't that small but it was still smaller than what she was used to when she lived with Richard. Sighing again, she tried to put those type of thoughts away, not liking the mood it was putting her in. Then, Lance's birthday popped into her head. Kimi was planning to go but was frightened at the thought of Richard being there as well. Shrugging she went over to her closet and picked out a silky blue dress to wear, it was pretty fancy but she didn't care, she wanted to look nice in front of her family. Well... they were still family right? I mean, she was so close to them all, just not to her husband. Kimi let those thoughts die and got dressed, putting on a tiny bit of makeup and heading out the door with her car keys in hand.
The traffic was terrible so what should've taken her ten minutes took at least thirty. What's worse is that Kimi hated being late to any type of event. She looked over at the back seat where the present she had gotten for Lance lay, it was neatly wrapped with a bow on top, kind of old fashioned in her opinion. She had decided to get him one of those new laptops that had just came out yesterday, hoping that he didn't already have one. Soon, she pulled up in front of Lance's house and parked in an available space. Getting out of the car with his present in hand, she walked up the driveway and stood in front of the door. Kimi took a deep breath before knocking.

Soon after my parents had come, my house was already filled with more guests. The Thompsons, who just got married two months ago. They were high school friends, and ironically, I'm still very close with them. Mr. Smith, my neighbor who is about five years older then I am. Mrs. Ford, who I know has the hots for Mr. Smith.
And many more guests were around.
The only one that could capture my attention was the one women who wasn't here.
The doorbell rang once again, and my heart - as it had done every time someone knocked on my door - leaped. I walked briskly to my front door, passing the Wilkersons and giving them a quick nod as a greeting before taking a deep breath, straightening my tie which felt as though it was choking me - though it wasn't very tight. And, finally, with a shaking hand, I grabbed the doorknob and twisted.
I swallowed before opening the door.
A smile spread across my face as I stared back at the eyes that I've longed to see all day.
"Kimi."
I said, feeling like an idiot. She was kind enough to come to my party, and all I can say is her name with a dorky smile on my face? I gulped, tearing my eyes away as I opened the door wider.
"Come on in." I added, feeling my forehead sweat a little.
If only Kimi knew what she was capable of doing to me.

Kimi smiled kindly at Lance, who seemed to be a little nervous for some reason. She walked into the house as he invited her in and she turned to give him a huge hug, not caring what he would think. "Happy birthday, Lance!" she exclaimed before asking where she should put her gift for him. Kimi found herself feeling a lot better and the strange thing was that she felt comfortable.... and this was Lance's HOUSE! She let the thought die and focused back on Lance. "How have you been? Haven't spoken to ya in awhile" she added with a smile. Her thoughts went to her appearance. Is my dress okay? Is my hair poofy? Things along that line. She didn't know why she was worrying about these things but she always had liked to look good in front of people.

Oh God, Oh God, Oh God...
Kimi hugged me! I smiled inside as I let my arms wrap around her waist and enhale her scent unnoticably. As usual, she had a flowery scent accompanying her. "You look great."
I said, hoping she didn't notice how I couldn't stop looking at her. Finally, I blinked before letting go. "I've been.. Very well. I hope you've been okay with the whole issue with..."
The last thing Kimi needed was me reminding her of Richard. With a wave of my hand, I shook my head and said, "Sorry. Don't answer that."

Kimi smiled. "Thanks and that's great!" She paused when he almost mentioned Richard and just nodded. "It's alright. Oh, and my roommate wanted to wish you a happy birthday as well" she added before smiling again. "So how's the partaaay? Having fun so far, or do I need to spark it up?" she joked, giggling at her silliness. Kimi was one to arrive at a party and change it's course altogether, most people didn't know how she managed to do it but she did. "Oh and Lance... thanks again for helping me" she told him, still feeling like she owed him her life for helping her with Richard.

[[Sorry I poofed yesterday, Olio. :) ]]
A shy chuckle bubbled up my throat at her question. That was one of my favorite things abut her; how she can be so happy even in the darkest days.
"Let your roommate know that I said thanks, also."
I said, though I didn't really know her roommate.
"Actually, I think your 'spark' could really be used here." I winked, though I felt wierd doing it. Flirting wasn't really something I was talented at. That's why I was known for my brains, not my... Charm.
"No problem." I said in a more quieter tone so no one could hear.

Kimi blinked gratefully at him and smiled. "Ohh? Don't worry, I won't let you down. My spark is going to be working on everyone soon" she laughed again, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "One question.. Where's the food?" she joked before shaking her head. "I wasn't serious about that. Love your house by the way. Ahh, yeah. Is your mother here? I'd like to say hi and stuff." It would be awkward talking with her ex mother in law, especially after the whole incident they had all just gone through, but she felt that it would make her conscience clear after a conversation with her. Shoot, Kimi wanted to speak to all of the family members, it would be great to chat with them again. Still, her belly churned anxiously at the thought.

I smiled with Kimi, happy that she was enjoying herself.
"Oh yes, she's here. She's working in the kitchen. Follow me."
I said before waving my hand as a motion for her to follow before walking passed many guests and coming to the kitchen.
"Hey mom. Kimi's here."
My mother turned around from the tray she was preparing, to see Kimi. A smile brightened the womans face, like she was the ex - wife of her son, as she ran over to give Kimi a hug.
"Oh Kimi, how are you?" Tears formed in her eyes though she blinked them away before letting go of Kimi.

Kimi felt so happy to be speaking with Lance's mother again, she hugged her back and smiled. "I'm fine, thanks, and how are you?!" she asked, her eyes softened as she looked at her. So many memories flooded back to Kimi right there and then, she didn't notice that her eyes were tearing up as well until she felt them fall down her check. Quickly, she wiped them away, hoping that no one noticed it, especially Lance. She didn't want to feel like this, though she knew she would soon. I can't ruin it for Lance.... So she did all she could to keep all of her feelings bottled up and hidden, talking to her ex-mother-in law with such enthusiasm.

I never realized until now how hard it was too love someone, and not be able to reach out to them in their time of need without seeming... Loving. Loving would be the worst thing Kimi could notice about her ex husbands brother. So, even though I was dying to put a hand on her shoulder, wipe the tears away, I acted as though I hadn't noticed. My mother, on the other hand, gave another, more tight hug to show her own sadness.
"I'm so sorry."
She kept repeating through tears. Finally, to keep myself from doing anything I'd regret later to Kimi, I left the room awkwardly. Giving the girls time alone. The second I left the kitchen, I bumped right into Jenna, a pretty girl I knew from church. ((I thought I could make a little love triangle xDD. O_O ]]
"Hey Lance. I was just looking for you. I wanted to wish you a happy birthday..."
And the conversation went on.
((^^Sorry. I don't feel like writing out a pointless conversation. lolll. ]]

[[Oh snap, love triangles XDD Spice it up!]]
Kimi was surprised to hear her ex mother in law say those words. She just hugged her back and tried to stop herself from crying. "It's alright, it's not your fault..." She could tell how hard this was on her, especially since it was her son that was involved. Kimi patted her on the shoulder and gave a little smile. "Forgive and forget... right?" she told her more softly, though she didn't quite believe those words herself. She knew she would never be able to forgive Richard, though forgetting was something she was aiming for. Kimi noticed that Lance had left the room and she felt a little guilty. Oh I hope I didn't upset him... She thought before she carried conversation with his mother.

The rest of the time the party went by slowly. Mostly because I never ran into Kimi again. I guessed she stayed with my mother. How awkward it is. Especially since Richard wasn't here. Sometimes I wish that they never divorced. That Richard never went astray. That Kimi was happy and in love with him. Even if it hurt me. I waved to the last of the guests, hoping that Kimi was still here. I closed the door and walked back to the kitchen. And there was my hardworking mother. Cleaning up the food and dishes. "Mom... Don't worry about that. I'll deal with it once everyone leaves." She smiled kindly but refused to stop. After finally giving in to her excuses on why she should be cleaning, I changed the subject. "Have you seen Kimi anywhere? Haven't seen her since she first came." My mother gave me a fast wink, like she knew exactly why I wanted to know where Kimi was. Which was impossible. I never told anyone my childish feelings for Kimi. My brothers ex wife, none the less. "Actually, no. Check around the house, she's bound to be here somewhere." And with that, my mom busied herself with work as I eagerly left the kitchen and searched. Hopefully she hasn't left.
