Zera was surprised at Zaniell's arrival. How had he seen her disappear with this man? She hadn't spotted him in the streets. Don't get her wrong- she was thankful that he had shown up when he had. She would've been a slave to some random man if Zaniell hadn't shown up. And though she wasn't really sure what that man would've done with her, she knew that she didn't want to find out. She never wanted to find out. Ever.
She had nearly forgotten about the slave trade issue that went on around all of the surrounding kingdoms. She watched as Zaniell moved with a predator's prowess and almost found herself fearful for her life. If he was this angry, then he might take out his anger on her, too, and Zera was fragile. Though she was persistent, stubborn, and sometimes a bit too curious for her own good, and no matter how hard she tried to prove otherwise, Zera was a fragile girl.
Her eyes widened as she heard the crunch of the man's shoulder bone breaking, and his hands come off of her, the dagger falling to the ground with a light thud. She gasped and looked at Zaniell with fearful eyes. As his icy eyes stared into hers, she started shaking. Her captor was stronger than she thought, it seemed- He was able to crush a grown man's shoulder with his bare hand, just by squeezing it.
She let out a small whimper, and scooted further down the alley, away from her captor, her back still against the wall. He had to be some sort of demon, she thought. Perhaps he was possessed, and that's why he was able to accomplish the feat of smashing that man's shoulder. Her shaky hands came up to the cut on her neck, and she ran her fingers over it, wincing as her wound stung. It wasn't very deep, but it was deep enough to make her bleed well enough.
She stepped away from the wall so that she was facing Zaniell straight, and pulled her hand away from her wound, her fingers covered in the crimson liquid. She pointed her index finger at Zaniell and said, "Stay away from me, foul being. I don't know if you're a demon, or if you're possessed, but don't come near me. You smashed that man's shoulder with your bare hands," she said, gesturing to the man, who was scampering off.
She shivered as a gust of wind hit her back, making her hair fly forward, and her gown billow a bit. It also chilled the blood on her hand, though it was still warm.

Zane could almost feel his heart breaking as Zera moved away from him in fear. He had practically been on his best behavior and controlled his anger... But she was still scared. Of course she was. He was a vampire, a soulless creature who had no feelings and evaded death. He was a blood thirsty creature who only lived to kill others and feed. He was what every myth said he was.
Zaniell soon found himself staring at Zera's neck wound. He was caught between two emotions: blood-lust and fear. He was fearful for the girl. He had probably just traumatized her. Not only that, she believed him to be some type of demon. A demon! Well, in a sense, she was entirely right. He was a creature of hell; was a demon not the same?
"Princess," Zane whispered just loud enough for Zera, and Zera only, to hear it. He closed his eyes and rubbed his temples, attempting to get her damn scent out of his head. She was so enticing... It just wasn't fair. If she kept tempting him like this, the Princess might get into a little bit of trouble.
"I saved you, did I not? He would have sold you to become another man's toy in bed. You could have died; you could have been seriously injured, even more so than you already are. Yet, here you are, telling me, your protector, to stay away?" His voice was getting angry as he continued to speak. He kept his head down though, still rubbing his temples.
"You ask me to keep away from you, so someone with intentions vile and despicable can come and take you instead? The knights from your kingdom aren't here to save you Princess. They aren't coming. Your father isn't planning your rescue. No one is coming for you."
Okay perhaps he was being a bit harsh. But it had to be said. He was sure of it. "Whether you like it or not Princess, I am the safest person you could be with out here. I have it in my power to protect you, and I will use the necessary measures to do so."
Zane paused and looked up at the Princess for the first time since he started talking. "So, please, Princess. I beg of you. Get onto the horse, so we can leave, and you can be safe."

Zera's eyes widened as Zaniell spoke, still shaking slightly. His voice was setting her on edge. He seemed so calm, no exclamations or yelling. It made her nervous that he wasn't yelling. Surely, if she had been kidnapped for another man, he would have been yelling by now. But something about Zaniell's demeanor just didn't seem like he would be the type to yell.
He was right. He did save her. What he said next was something that scared her. That man would've sold her for that? She would've become someone's toy? Her slate-colored eyes looked down as she put her hand over the cut on her neck again, trying to block off the air, which was making the cut sting badly. She bit on her bottom lip. And she'd never really thought of Zane as anything other than a kidnapper- when she was sober, that was. Or at least she would never admit to ever thinking of him as something else.
He spoke of vile intentions as if he had none for her. If she was kidnapped, her kidnapper had to have some vile plans for her. That was just a requirement for kidnappers, wasn't it? His next few sentences stung against her ears like physical hits. She knew the knights from her kingdom weren't in the area, but she had no clue that they weren't coming.
Her father wasn't planning her rescue, her captor said.
Nobody was coming to rescue her, Zaniell said.
Zera began to feel a bit faint- both from the blood coming out of her neck and the words that Zaniell had said. As much as she wanted to brush those words off like they were nothing- as much as she wished that they weren't true, a part of her knew that nobody was coming for her. That she wasn't getting out of this situation.
That she would end up having to comply with Zaniell's orders.
She felt several tears roll down her cheeks as she walked back to the area where she'd left the horse- it wasn't too far from the alley. She got back onto the creature, her lips quivering, trying not to let any more tears roll down her lightly freckled cheeks. She clenched the horse's mane, and bit her tongue, trying to ignore the stinging cut on her neck, which her tears had tumbled over.

Zane saw the tears and instantly felt terrible. He sighed as she walked away to the horse, not saying a word to him as she did. His eyebrows furrowed in frustration. Not at Zera, no. He was entirely angry at himself, for everything he had said to her. He could have just left it at 'she was safest with him', and left out all the stuff he had said about her father.
Zaniell slowly walked back to the horse, taking his time as he did so. He wanted her to have her time alone... If she hadn't hated him before, she certainly had to now. Just another person to wish he was no longer in existence. Nothing new there, he thought bitterly.
Zane made his way to the horse, keeping his head down when he reached it. The saddlebag was already filled with their supplies. He grabbed the reigns and pulled the horse forward, away from the crowds. He didn't have the heart to look up at Zera's crying face, knowing that he caused her pain by not protecting her. Her scent was almost too much to bare anyways.
"I'm sorry I've hurt you, Princess," Zane whispered, not even sure that Zera would hear him. He said it more to himself than her. But, what he said was true. He was extremely sorry that he let her get hurt by another's hand, and she was hurt by his words. That was worse than any physical wound she could endure. "I'm so very sorry..."

Zera watched as Zaniell didn't look at her. She was glad he didn't. She was afraid of what she might see in his eyes. Murderous intent- maybe the reflection of a demon. She truly had no choice but to go with him. It was either that, or risk having the previous situation occur again- except she wouldn't get saved by her kidnapper. She would end up being some toy for some man, just as Zaniell had said earlier.
Zera hadn't noticed just how scary the world was until that moment. For all she knew, Zaniell could be carting her off to become a slave, too. Or perhaps she already was a slave- to Zaniell himself. She'd heard a drunken knight say that everyone was a slave to something or someone. Husbands to their wives, wives to their husbands. Subjects to their rulers, and animals to their masters.
She sniffled as Zaniell spoke, but she didn't speak again. She didn't want to speak. She reached back into a saddlebag and grabbed her blanket, wrapping it around herself and letting out a shaky breath. She didn't even hear what he said- just that he had whispered something.
She allowed the rhythmic clopping of the horse's hooves lull her into a trance, and she felt the blood dry on her neck, the cut slowly stopping its bleeding, only a trickle of blood oozing out now. She ran her hand through her hair and readjusted herself in the saddle.
She did what she always did when she was sad. She began to sing. Well, humming was more like it. It was soft, and light- barely audible to the human ear. It was a simple tune, though it was beautiful. She remembered her mother singing it to her- before she died, that was. That was almost seven years ago, now, she thought.

I really am a monster. Screw the fact I drink blood... I'm an emotional terrorist. I've never felt so low in my life... Not even when my wif- No, I can't think about that at this time. I've got a job to do... I have to kill the Princess. Of course, it wouldn't be me... But I'm the shepherd leading the sheep to the slaughter house. I won't do it.
Zane then thought of quite a few 'choice words' to himself as they walked on. He couldn't believe himself, letting her get hurt like that. He was a terrible person. It was at that moment, Zane decided that he wasn't going to sacrifice Zera to the 'Gods', if they even existed. He couldn't bring her back to her home, but it was better than her death.
Then the Princess started to sing. Zane jumped as her voice broke the silence. He didn't say a thing, but just listened. It was quiet; if he wasn't a supernatural being, he wouldn't have heard it. He just listened, the sound of hooves on the ground as background noise. It was beautiful. He wished that she would sing it out loud, not just hum. He could tell she had a gorgeous voice.

Ooc:// I'll start then. :D I'm also excited. -Has no life. And is a crazy romantic person. Even though most of her characters usually prefer to hit someone rather than kiss them.-

Zera's teeth were chattering. She hadn't gotten any clothes, so the bone-biting cold was beginning to settle in. She had piled on the blanket, and wrapped herself up so that no skin other than her head was showing, curled up into a ball and shivering like some sort of nervous, anxiety-ridden chihuahua. Chills were on her arms under the covers, and her nose was red due to the cold.
Garander's pass was much colder than she would've expected, and she'd been trying to go to sleep for the past few minutes to no avail. If she stayed like that the whole night, she would be frostbitten so badly that she would lose her toes and fingers. She wouldn't be able to play the piano after that- something that she quite enjoyed.
She was thinking of warm things. Fire, fresh pastries, the oven back at the palace, the kitchen, the sun, a day with no trees at noon. Zane. The thought of just how tantalizingly warm her captor had been when he had carried her and ridden with her on the horse popped up into her head. His warm arms, ridden with those tribal tattoos that danced around the muscles.
Before she knew what she was doing, she had poked her head out into the open air and said, "Zaniell! G-get in t-this t-tent." She managed to spit the words out without stuttering too much. After finishing her last sentence, she retreated back into the shelter and shivered even more, pressing her lips together and biting on her bottom one- they were cold, also.

Zane was brushing the horse when Zera called to him. He almost dropped the brush from surprise. Did he just hear her right? They hadn't spoken much since that day... And now she wanted him in her tent? She was probably just cold; she hadn't gotten more clothes that day at the market.
Zane set the brush back into the bag and slowly walked towards the tent. He was wearing his usual clothes and his cloak, since he never seemed to get cold. Unlike most vampire myths, their body adapted to their surroundings. If it was cool out, his body naturally adjusted to become warmer so he could survive. Yay for the vampiric anatomy!
Zaniell cautiously entered the tent, leaving his wet shoes at the interest. There wasn't much room in the tent, since Zera and her cocoon of blankets took up plenty of room. But still, it wasn't enough. He knelt in the tent, wondering what she wanted him to do.
"Uhm, Princess... Where should I sit?"
At that moment, the wind roared outside the tent, causing the sides to quiver slightly. He winced as he heard another gust of wind sweep by. It wouldn't have been as bad, that is, if it wasn't snowing so hard outside. At this rate, they'd be there for days.

Just Zane getting into the tent warmed it up, though it wasn't near warm enough for her. She was still freezing. He knelt down in front of her, and Zera moved some of her blankets to the side. "Right here," she said, pointing to an area that had been cleared for him. "It's colder than a wine cellar," she said, wishing that she could actually get closer to him- wrap him up with herself in the blankets, and keep herself warm.
He didn't seem to be cold, which startled her. When the tent quivered, and a bit of wind slipped in through the fabric of the tent, Zera shivered a bit harder and hissed to herself. It was insanity, it being this cold. Stupid tempermental Garander's pass. Throwing snow-storms at her.
She let out another word and pulled the blankets tighter around herself. "Hurry!"

[[ Sorry, didn't give you much to work with there. xD ]]
Zane waded his way over to the spot Zera had cleared out and sat down. He was close enough that he could feel the Princess' coldness radiating from her.
"Princess, you're freezing." It wasn't a question, or an exclamation. That was a statement. He leaned over to her and crinkled his nose in disapproval. She could not, would not freeze to death here. She was his duty... If they just happened to have to stay together for body heat, Zane was sure he could live with it. No funny business, though. Unless she started it...
Zane physically shook the thought from his head and looked back at Zera once more.
"Princess, I'm warm." He paused and bit his lip. "I think it'd be best if we shared the blankets... My body heat would warm you up." He looked at Zera from the corner of his eye, wondering what her reaction would be.

Zera nearly rolled her eyes at Zane's statement. Of course she was freezing! It was freezing outside, and the blankets weren't helping much, to her disadvantage. She wondered where he was going with this. The wind blew outside, and Zera nearly felt her bones chill with it.
And then he stated another obvious thing- that he was warm. She knew that too, as she could feel the heat radiating from him. She wished that he would just shut up for a moment. It was almost as if he was teasing her, taunting her with his heat. And then came the proposition.
"What? No- I..." She shivered again as the wind blew through a blanket that covered her legs. She chewed on her bottom lip. "Ugh.... Alright. C'mon." She opened up the side of her blanket, sighing in defeat. She had a feeling that even if she didn't want him to join her in the blankets, he would join her anyways.
She shivered again as the wind blew against her arms, which were bare due to the lack of the blankets covering them. Small bumps raised on the pale skin there.

[[ Pfft, he should probably get the wine. That'd warm her up just fine. xD ]]
Zane tried to conceal his smile as the Princess spluttered over her words. He knew she would say yes eventually; she was pretty damn cold! He didn't waste a second. He quickly scooted over and went under the blankets with Zera. He pulled off his cloak and tossed it with his shoes up at the front of the tent, then rolled up his sleeves.
Zane's arm made brief contact with Zera's freezing one. His eyes widened as he finally realized just how cold she was. He shook his head and scooted even closer, dragging the blankets back up as he did so. At this rate, it would take a long time for the girl to warm up. But, being perfectly honest, he didn't mind much.
Zane turned his body so his chest was facing Zera. He laid on his side and propped his head up with his hand, his elbow laying at the bottom of the tent. With his free hand, he brushed his hand up Zera's goose-bumped arm. He marveled at the fact the tingling still happened. He brushed her arm again with his hand softly.
"Does this bother you?" He murmured softly.

Zera enjoyed each time that Zane's arm brushed against hers. He was warm. Just like he'd said before. She found the chills were beginning to fade. She felt her knees against his stomach, and his hand brushing against her arm. She actually knew that he was doing it purposefully now.
It was something that Zera liked, though she would never admit it. Her eyes threatened to close as she realized just how relaxed that made her feel. She let her eyelids droop slightly, and her shivering stopped, immediately feeling the effects of how close Zaniell was to her.
"Does this bother you?"
Zera had an impulse to tell him just how much it bothered her- how the skin there felt all staticky when he touched it. In a good way, yes, she wanted to say. Though the more prevalent side of her settled for just shaking her head in a 'no' motion. She layed down so that she was facing her captor, her breathing slowing. The cut on her neck didn't hurt anymore, she noticed. It was probably because of the fact that Zane was distracting her.
He had a tendency of doing that to her, it seemed.

Zane watched as the Princess settled into a comfortable position. He could literally see the goose bumps fading from her skin and she warmed up. He stopped rubbing her arm as she laid down. He noticed they were a bit closer now. It caused him to swallow loudly. He didn't like Zera this close to him. Well, he liked her this close so much that he disliked it.
Zaniell pulled the blanket up higher on Zera's body, his hand pausing at her shoulder. He trailed his hand down to the mark on her neck and examined it. It was shallow, but in such a bad place. Right next to her jugular. His hand passed by and lingered on the strong pulse of her neck. He sighed, biting his lip to ignore how hungry he was. He was in such a hurry to leave the market, and that abominable man, that he had forgotten to feed.
Zane soon realized what he was doing was entirely inappropriate. He quickly removed his hand from the Princess and put it at his side over the blanket.
"Forgive me, Princess," He said, lowering his head in an apologetic gesture. "It's not my place..." Referring to touching her in any way, shape or form. He started to chew his lip again, eyes flashing to Zera every so often. What he really wanted to do is just wrap his arms around her and have her fall asleep there. Like that was going to happen... again.

Zera was thankful for how Zaniell had pulled the blanket up over her. Perhaps he really did care if she was comfortable. She thought about it for a moment. Who was he to care about her at all? He had kidnapped her- taken her from her home! She almost became mad, but the warmth that was seeping from Zaniell was making her forget to think about things.
The thing that seemed strange to her was when he trailed his hand from where it rested on her shoulder to the wound on her neck, examining it. Then she noticed when his hand lingered on an area where her pulse was rather strong. She could actually feel the vein there pumping blood against the almost nonexistent pressure that Zaniell was putting on the skin covering it.
Then he moved his hand, which almost upset her. His touch left trails of fire on her skin. And then he just pulls his hand away? If she were a completely selfish person, she would've ordered him to keep doing what he had been doing. Instead, she settled for simply speaking.
After several moments of watching Zane bite at his lip, Zera spoke up: "You've already left 'your place' once or twice now," she said, grinning. The funny thing was that she was sober. Sleepy, and possibly so cold that she didn't care what she was saying, but she was sober.
She let herself scoot closer, the heat coming from Zaniell was almost calling her, telling her to snuggle against his chest and curl up into a ball.

Zane contemplated her statement. Well, she was right. Hah. He never thought he'd admit to that! He wondered if the Princess was still cold when she shuffled closer. Perhaps she just wanted to be closer? Well, a man dared to dream, didn't he?
Wordlessly, Zane lifted his hand and tucked a stray piece of Zera's hair from her cheek to behind her ear. He rested his hand in the crevice between her shoulder and her neck, which was easily done since she was so close to him now. He gave her a soft smile and replied, "Then you should realize that I'm not truly sorry about my actions." He was referring to what he was doing now.
Zane's eyes flashed to her neck, mostly her wound, and a look of concern crossed his face. When the storm quieted down, he would have to put some salve on that. He didn't want it to get infected. Mostly, he just didn't like the sight of her blood, visibly taunting him at this point. It was so unfair!
Zane scooted closer, trying to eliminate the space between them. He could still feel the coldness in the girl's clothing, which meant she was still slightly cold, or something like that. Truthfully, at this new angle, he couldn't see the neck wound, though he could still smell the blood.

Zera didn't resist as Zane tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear, where it belonged. She felt the good kind of chills go up and down her arms and legs when Zaniell rested his hand in the crook of her neck. She wasn't really sure what he meant when he said that he wasn't really sorry about his actions. Zaniell had a tendency of making Zera confused.
Zera both loved it and hated it at the same time. She searched his face as he stared at her neck. Was her wound really that bad? She knew that it was visible, but it surely wasn't too bad. She thought that by the end of the week, she could take the wraps off of her feet, and she would be able to walk normally again.
Her eyes stared up into Zaniell's, and she was fully aware that he had scooted closer. Since he didn't seem sorry for his actions, she probably shouldn't feel sorry for hers, so she moved closer to him, too, so that her knees were touching the tops of his thighs.
Might as well get as warm as possible.
Zera pressed her toes against the tops of Zaniell's calf muscles, and curled her arms around herself. The only thing separating her torso from her captor's were her arms, which were wedged between them. She rested her head on her hands, which she had folded together, and sighed.

Zane shivered when Zera's legs and feet touched him. Her feet were so cold... He remembered from his human days when his feet would always be the coldest thing about him. Oh, those days were long gone. He was suddenly aware of how very close they were. It made him gulp.
Zane sighed after Zera had. He hoped the storm wouldn't last log; he didn't know how much of this he could take. Certainly not much more if they stayed that close throughout the night. And Bear! The horse would survive in the cold, yes. But... He would get cold. A cold horse didn't move very fast. But, alas, the vampire highly doubted that it would be over soon since the wind and snow was still howling.
Zane looked down at Zera for a moment. She was curled up with her hands as a pillow. He frowned and pulled his arm out from under him.
"It might be easier if you use my arm as a pillow?" He suggested, offering his arm out to Zera. He gave a smile that almost seemed shy. He hadn't known he was capable of a shy smile. All it took was a human, of royal decent, to change the little things about him. Zane never knew another to have this effect on him. And the electricity he felt between them; well, Zaniell had no clue what that was about.
