"Then I guess I can't hurt you." Was all Zane said. He turned without another word and pulled the horses reigns again. He was upset, more than he thought he ever could be. He wanted to punch a tree, kill someone with his bare hands, something to keep his mind of the current situation.

Zane felt his eyes moisten. It almost stopped him in his tracks. Was he really about to cry? Hell no! He was a vampire, killing people just because he was hungry. He wasn't about to get all worked up about some girl. Especially since it was someone who was entirely out of his league. He'd probably get killed for kidnapping once they entered the other kingdom with a Princess. The King hadn't intended them to ever reach another kingdom.

Zane kicked a rock in his path, hitting it against a tree. It shattered upon contact. He moved out of Zera's reach again, wishing for a moment he was deaf, so he couldn't hear her talk either. Not for the first time, Zane wished that he was human, then he wouldn't have to put up with this crap anymore.

[[ Zane... Such a girl. Crying. Hah. Zera's more manly than you, Zane! >U ]]

Ooc:// I think that men that aren't afraid to cry are the best kind. Because some of the best men in history have shed tears over the smallest of things. They're all big teddy bears. <3

Bic://

Zera couldn't let her emotions show. Though she wanted to cry, scream, kick someone in the groin, and throttle Zane, she didn't let any of that show on her face. She focused her entire being on being an annoyance. Wait. If Zane wasn't carting her off anywhere anymore, she could just get up and run, and he would have no plausible reason to go after her.

Though she would never try it unless she wanted to torture herself or commit suicide. A girl as small as herself running through the snow would die of hypothermia in little time.

She thought of a good way to tick Zane off. Perhaps quietly singing a cheery song would annoy him. With a light, soprano voice, Zera quietly sang a song that she'd been taught long ago. Her nanny had taught it to her, seeing as how her mother wasn't a very good singer. The tune was light and flowy, and it almost reminded one of a red ribbon being streamed through the air.

[[ Well... Go Zane, then.
|D ]]

Zane held in a groan when Zera started to sing. Really? Was she just intentionally pissing him off? Of course, it as becoming obvious now. He was going to ask her to quit, but the sung struck him. It was beautiful. He listened silently as she sang, taking in every bit of it. He hated that the Princess could make him melt from his angry facade in a quick bar of a song.

Zane tightened his grip on the reigns so much that his knuckles started to turn white. He felt terrible for forgetting his wife throughout the whole ordeal with the Princess. Even though it had been centuries ago, his wife - Katherine - had been his whole life. After all the time with Zera, she began to steal part of Katherine's piece of him. His heart was telling him there could be only one, though his mind disagreed.

It wasn't but moments later that it stopped snowing and the sun shone out from some of the heavy clouds. Zane glanced up, winced from the light, and pulled his hood lower on his face. Great, Zera's singing made the sun come out and weaken him in two ways. He rubbed his forehead with his hand, wishing that it would just go away.

Zera was when Zane didn't speak or complain about her song. She was stunned, a bit, really. She continued on with her song until she saw the world brighten. Had something strange happened? Lightning in the middle of the snow? No. The light stayed, and the snowing ceased.

The light brown-haired girl peered up at the sky with a pleased smile. The sun would melt the snow, and it would warm things up. She wouldn't have to rely on her blankets for warmth once all of the snow dissipated. She squinted from the brightness of the sun and looked straight forward again.

"How long will it take us to get to our destination?" she asked Zaniell, noticing that he had pulled his hood farther over his head. A hermit hiding from the sun.

"Too damn long," Zane muttered under his breath.

"It should only take two days, Princess," Zane said aloud this time, though still not looking back at her. He didn't think he could do it, face her. He wanted their connection gone; he was sure she wouldn't mind. Actually, he wasn't sure of much anymore. At least not when it came to Zera.

A thought hit him at that moment. "You know, you don't have to stay with me anymore, if you don't want, Princess." Zane paused, wondering if he was crazy for saying this. "I could escort you to the King's castle, and he could take you home... You wouldn't have to deal with me anymore."

Zane kept his voice strong, confident. But inside? He was breaking down. What if she really said okay to that? He didn't know what he would do. He would be haunted in his dreams by her face and song, his body would miss the familiar zap of energy that passed through them. He would miss her.

"Only if you want to, Princes..."

Zera sighed. She ran a hand through her long hair, beginning to braid it like she normally did. Her fingers worked nimbly, weaving her hair in and out in intricate twists. As she worked, she listened to Zane speak. She was stunned by his words.

Did he want her to leave? Though she was tempted to leave at times, she knew she really didn't want to go. She was also surprised by how strong and confident his voice was. She would never be able to ask him if he ever wanted to leave her with that tone of voice. She stopped braiding her momentarily and sighed again.

"If I go to the castle, Zaniell, I'll be urged to marry the king's son, who I don't know, and if I end up back at my kingdom, my father may sacrifice me himself."

Her voice started out strong, but it got quieter and quieter as she went on. She didn't like thinking of how her father would have her killed so easily, on the drop of a hat. For one wish. A stupid wish for immortality.

[[ o.o

I forgot to reply. ;-; ]]

Zane felt his blood boil, figuratively, as the Princess mentioned the idea of her marrying a Prince from another kingdom. He didn't know why he was getting so worked up; they both clearly stated that this was, and never will be, anything. He knew he had no right to be jealous, yet he obviously was.

"The Prince might be a good man," Zane said through clenched teeth, practically spitting the words as he said them. Or, he could be a total jerk who never let the Princess do anything. He could just marry her because of her ti
tle, not who she was.

Zaniell noticed as the Princess' words got quieter as she mentioned her father. He was angry for two reasons now: jealousy of a Prince he had never met, and a father who was willing to give up his daughter for selfish purposes.

"I don't want you to go..." Zane said softly, telling the complete truth for the first time since they started riding again. He wasn't sure if Zera had even heard him, but if she had, then good. Still, it made Zane nervous to think of her reaction again.

Zera rolled her eyes at the mention of the prince being a good man. As if! She'd met several princes before, and her mother had tried desperately for them to be engaged. All of them simply looked at her as if she were a piece of candy needing to be unwrapped or some girl who would bring them power. None of them were truly interested in her. Sure, they could give her jewels, power, children, and perhaps even anything she wanted, but they would not make her happy.

The brown-haired girl was surprised as Zane was silent for several moments, and then said something unexpected. Her cheeks reddened furiously as he finished he said so. He had just made her undergo the biggest blush she'd ever had in her entire life. She was confused beyond words, though.

He didn't want her to leave, yet he claimed that 'this,' if there is a 'this,' would never work out. He had even gone off on her a few minutes ago.

Deciding to say something instead of sitting atop the horse like a speechless buffoon, she said, "Good, because I'm not leaving." She continued braiding her hair, pulling a piece of string off of her wrist when she finished and tying the bottom up so that it wouldn't undo itself. Her cheeks were still crimson.

Zane couldn't help but smile at her answer. He tried to keep it hidden, but he was helpless, and confusing. He knew he was, because he was confusing himself. His emotions were a jumbled mess that would take a long time to be sorted out. He was angry, frustrated, jealous - still -, but happy from Zera's response. He felt something for her, but didn't know what it was, exactly.

Zane betrayed himself as he glanced up at the Princess, surprised that she was blushing. What from? His comment? Couldn't have been. Not 10 minutes ago, they were going off on eachother, saying that 'this' would never happen. So, if she didn't care, why would she still be effected by his words?

Zane reached up and tugged gently on the end of her braid, where she had put the ribbon. "I like your hair like this much better," He said, rubbing a piece of her hair between his fingers. "It brings out your eyes."

Zera's eyes caught Zaniell's as he looked up at her. Why was he looking at her? He was supposed to be all silent for the rest of the ride. Then he would go crazy again and let her snuggle with him when they rested again. She had no doubt that he would go off on her once again when their resting time was over.

Her blush, which had faded from earlier, strengthened again as Zane complimented her on her hair. She peeled her eyes away from his and cleared her throat. "It's much easier to deal with when it's braided, too." She didn't pull away from how he rubbed some of the loose hair between his fingers. She loved to have her hair messed with. It had something to do with how it felt on her scalp.

She could still vaguely see his features from under the cloak, but she didn't stare at his face too much at that moment- or at least she tried not to.

Zane watched Zera curiously as she blushed again. He had just said that he liked her hair? What would cause her to blush from that? Who knew? Zane certainly didn't; it was becoming obvious that he was out of touch with how to speak, and act, with the opposite gender.

"Mmm, I bet," Zane said, playfully tugging the end of her braid once more before pulling his hand away. He kept his eyes on the Princess though, his violet ones staring into her slate ones. Such an odd match, it seemed. Violet and Gray, who would have thought?

Zaniell finally turned back to the road when he heard voices. They weren't any just common folk; he could hear the swords and sheaths beat against legs as the people walked towards them. Soldiers? Out here? He frowned, extremely confused. Why was the King sending soldiers? He had no reason to be suspicious of them.

"Princess," Zane said, looking up at Zera quickly. He pulled off his cloak, wincing from the sudden brightness, and threw it across the top of the saddle. "Put that on and pull the hood up... Soldiers are coming this way."

Ooc:// Do I smell bandits? <3

Bic://

Zera's head bobbed as Zaniell pulled on the edge of her braid. She grinned as he pulled his hand away, and she looked under that hood of his just to see his ex
pression. She didn't expect to find his pupils staring into hers. She looked away nervously, and rather quickly, turning her head to the side so that she looked into the woods.

She was startled as she felt something hit the fronts of her legs and rest on the saddle, looking down to find Zaniell's black cloak. She was just about to ask when he told her to slip it on and pull the hood up- soldiers were coming. Zera felt a cold sweat bead on the back of her neck.

Under any normal circumstances, she would've ran away from the person who had kidnapped her and towards the soldiers, even though she couldn't see them at that moment, and begged for them to take her home. But these weren't normal circumstances. Her father wanted her dead, and she'd found a friend- and possibly more- in Zanniel.

Completing the given actions, Zera slipped the cloak over her head and pulled the hood up so that it shaded her face from view. The cloak was a bit large for her, but she didn't mind. Also, it was warm, and smelled like Zaniell- pine and mint. She had to resist the action of inhaling deeply, and instead gave Zaniell a nod.

[[ You do, you do indeed. ;3 ]]

Zane stiffened as he heard voices, talking about their most recent score. Apparently, they had knocked out some of the King's soldiers and stolen their uniforms. It gave them an 'edge' for all their other jobs. And their next victim? He wouldn't know what hit him.

"Hey, stop right there!"

Zane stopped, pulled the horse to a stop with him. He looked at the 5 men curiously, as if he was wondering why they were stopping him. But of course, the vampire knew what was happening, and he had the situation in control.

"Can I help you, soldiers?" His voice was sincere as he spoke. "Surely we haven't done anything wrong."

The soldiers glanced up at Zera on the horse nervously. "There's a rumor that the Princess has been kidnapped. Big reward to get her back." The man in front said, keeping his eyes on Zane, unlike the four men behind him. "Under King's orders, we must search all your belongings, and we are allowed to take anything that deems evidence of her."

Zane nearly snorted at the man's comment. What did they expect him to say? Hey, why don't you just take my horse and everything I own! I don't need them, unlike you 'soldiers'. Instead, the vampire smiled menacingly at the men.

"Unless you have an order, signed by the King himself, I don't have to do a thing you say." Zane knew that wasn't true, not one bit, but he didn't care. It was enough to stump the bandits momentarily. But, it didn't matter, because Zane knew it was only a matter of minutes before the dumb brutes attacked.

"Zera," Zane turned his head so he was looking at the Princess. "Stay on the horse. If I tell you to ride, ride as hard as you can. I'll find you. Just keep yourself safe."

Ooc:// Yay~ <3

But bandits are so easy to kill in Skyrim... XD

Bic://

Zera could immediately sniff out the bandits. It wasn't hard to do, in fact. They didn't speak like the knights that she was so used to back at the palace. They had a different type of lilt to their voices. The only thing that they said was that they would take anything that was deemed as evidence of the princess- namely herself.

If they saw her, they would take her. Of course they would! They were bandits. Notorious for stealing, killing, raping, and never, ever returning. She chewed on the inside of her cheek and watched the conversation stop for a moment as Zane startled the men with his boldness.

He was telling her to leave? To ride off? To heck with that! She would not leave. The least she could do was run over the men with the horse. That would disable them. She wasn't sure if it would kill them, though. Either way, she wouldn't leave. No way.

"I will not ride off, Zaniell. And you just called me by my name. Around bandits," she said the last part as she noticed what he had said. Even people from around the kingdom knew who she was simply by her first name. Nobody else was named Zera, that she could think of.

Zane was immediately frustrated by Zera's stubbornness? Couldn't she see that her safety was important to him? He didn't want to see her get hurt because he couldn't get to her in time. He could tell those men had sick intentions for the girl, and they didn't even know who she was. That set him on edge.

"Zera, they're not going to be able to even remember their own names by the time I'm done with them." Zane said through gritted teeth. He glanced at the men from the corner of his eye. He noticed they held the swords clumsily, all except the leader. He seemed to have a great stance and perfect posture as well. Hm. That would lead to an interesting fight.

Zane turned his pleading eyes back to Zera. It was useless, though. She had made up her mind, and she was stubborn, just as he was. With a defeated sigh, Zane turned to walk towards the men. He stopped, turned on his heel  once more, grabbed Zera's hand and quickly brushed his lips across her knuckles.

"For luck," He told her, looking up at the Princess with his violet eyes shining. He didn't need it; they both knew that. Zane took several steps back, keeping his eyes on Zera as he did so. After about 10 feet, he turned to face the bandits. They were all looking at him with a combination of curiosity and fury.

"Well, what're you waiting for?"

Zera watched as Zane said that they would be so disoriented that they would hardly be able to remember anything by the time that he got done with them. Zera had no doubt. She knew that he was strong. She had placed her hand back on the horse's neck when Zane began to walk towards the bandits, but her curiosity piqued when he turned back around.

When he grabbed her hand, Zera felt a small surge of electricity, and that strengthened when she felt his lips brush gently against her knuckles. She felt her face heat up, and her stomach do backflips. For luck, her butt! Zane didn't need luck on his side. If he could crush a man's shoulder by simply squeezing it, she could only imagine what these bandits would look like when this was over with.

She didn't peel her eyes away from his as he walked away from her, and then finally turned to face the men. Surprisingly, they hadn't acknowledged her. The brutes were more foolish than she thought, it seemed. She placed her hand on the saddle, rubbing the spot where Zaniell's lips had touched her skin with her other hand.

She laughed as a question was asked. Men against men, and questions were being asked? That was a rare sight indeed.

[[ ... I would probably have less of a non-existent life than I already have. ;-; ]]

Zaniell stood lazily before the men holding swords. They were outraged at his position. Was he not willing to fight? Would they kill him like a coward? Maybe they would take and kill his pretty little toy on the horse, and make him watch? The vampire could practically hear the gears turning in their underworked brains.

The leader, the one in the back, barked an order at the men, who formed a circle around Zane. The leader stayed behind though, and that made the vampire think. He might go after Zera while Zane was busy with the other 4. And if he touched a precious hair on her head... God, help him.

The first man lunged, sword out. Zane easily dodged the thrust, grabbing the man's arm and snapping it over his knee. The popping sound made the vampire grin. He loved that he could do so much damage with just one swift movement. The man fell to his knees in agony. Zane swiftly kicked him onto his back.

The next two lunged towards him, one sweeping high, the other low. He avoided the low striking sword, but his arm was caught with the higher one. It stung for just a moment before it healed over. Zane growled at the one who had hit him, grabbed him by the throat, and squeezed. Snap his neck? Nope. Just slightly crushed his windpipe.

Zane turned to look at the other two men, the ones who were still standing. They looked scared, nervous, like they hadn't wanted to fight him. All the time, Zane hadn't looked towards the leader, who may, or may not, gone to Zera.
