Don't worry about him? Don't worry about him?! Seriously? As if she wouldn't worry about him. She worried about Zane every second of every day. She worried if he was okay with dealing with her, with basically lugging her around everywhere- leading her like a puppy, and putting up with her.
She sighed as he kissed her temple. It was odd that he didn't need sleep or air. She was almost envious of that. If she never needed sleep, she would do so many things, and see so many places. She would travel the world, and learn so many languages...
She was shaken out of her thoughts when Zane basically called himself a monster. She looked up and kissed his jaw softly. She moved so that she could whisper in his ear. "You will never be a monster. You're only a monster if you believe you're a monster." She moved away and let her eyes stare into his. Her tone wasn't a scolding one, but it was serious.
"Don't say that you're a monster. Not even half a monster, or a tiny percentage of a monster, Zane. You're a man." She carried on, "You're mine." The words had slipped out of her lips before she realized what she'd said. Maybe he would think that she'd just said that he was a man- repeated it. Oh, gosh. She'd screwed up.

Zane sighed when she kissed his jaw. Her words? She just didn't understand what it was like to be him. A man wouldn't kill his wife because he was thirsty. A man wouldn't drink blood to survive. A man had to sleep and breath. A man would live a life, then die. Zane was not a man.
But he was Zera's? That comment caught him by surprise. A pleasant surprise, at that. He leaned close and nuzzled her neck softly. She didn't know that she just possibly made him the happiest man on Earth. Wait, not a man, but a vampire.
"I'm yours?" Zane said into her ear, a smile on his lips. "Just as you are mine, Zera." He said even softer, placing a small kiss just below her ear. He felt the need to repeat himself. "Just as you are mine..." |

Zera found it hard to breathe when he spoke into her ear. She'd been caught. He hadn't mistaken her words like she'd hoped he would. She didn't even expect him to be so happy about it. She half expected him to ignore her.
She shivered when he kissed her just below her ear. It was a good shiver, though, and chills appeared on her arms. When had she become so susceptible to his charms? Oh, yeah. That's right. She had always been susceptible to Zaniell's charms.
She allowed her eyes to widen when he said that she was his. Goodness, they were claiming eachother, now, weren't they? It was strangely... interesting, Zera had to admit. It almost made her happy to know that Zaniell said that she was his, just as he was hers.
She didn't even notice how her cheeks had heated up, and a bit of pink pigment had surfaced in the pale skin there.

Zaniell looked at Zera as she blushed and shivered. She wasn't cold, that much he knew, so it had to be a good shiver. Or one of disgust. Well, he just hoped for the former, and not the latter. He was a vampire; he couldn't just expect Zera to be perfectly fine with that part of him either.
Zane leaned down and kissed the girl's blushing cheek gently. Perhaps he was being too careful, but he had recently fed and knew just how easily it would be to hurt her. He didn't know how he could live with himself if he did that. Especially if it was from him attempting to show his affection for the girl.
"You're so cute when you blush," He murmured to the girl, brushing one of her cheeks with his fingertips. Did he say that out loud? Whoops. That was just a thought that slipped out. He turned his head slightly and gave her a shy grin. |

Zera felt her pulse quicken when he kissed her cheek. It was amazing what Zane could cause her to do with such a simple touch. A small touch. An affectionate touch. It was odd, really. But Zera loved it. She couldn't help but love it. Her vampire was just lovable. And he was so muscular. All those muscles...
No! Bad Zera! She mentally scolded herself.
When he murmured that she was cute when she blushed, and brushed her cheek with her fingertips, she felt herself blush again, and her pulse quicken even more. And then the man acted all shy. He sure didn't act shy before, with the kisses and the murmuring.
She rolled her eyes and let out a slight laugh. But that was when the storm hit, and all hell broke loose. Rain came down outside in a torrential downpour, sheets of cool rain bulleting down to the ground. Lightning illuminated the darkness, and Zera could see it flash from inside the tent.
Her eyes widened, and she clung to Zane. No. He would protect her. He would keep her safe. And thunder struck. Zera buried her face in his chest, letting out a small whimper. She was shaking.

Zane took a deep breath when Zera blushed again. He could hear her pulse speed up... He could feel it under his hands. Another breath to calm himself. He had to watch himself. Always watching himself. Granted, Zera getting all excited over a simple little touch didn't help either.
The storm hit. And it was a big one. Zane could feel the ground underneath him shake each time the thunder rolled. He could feel the wind and rain blasting the outside of the tent. He winced each time the lightening stuck. It was so loud...
The girl curled up in his arms, shaking, whimpering. It nearly broke his heart. She was so scared, like a little lost foal. Zane let out a heavy sigh and clutched his arms tighter around the girl. He needed to distract her from the rain, but the only thing he could think of probably wouldn't be the best in the situation.
Instead, he just tried to comfort the girl with his words. "Zera, honey, it'll be okay. I have you. I'm not going to let anything happen to you... Ever. I've got you..."

Zera calmed slightly at Zane's words. The thunder had held off long enough for her to hear them, at least. That much she was grateful for. However, when the thunder picked back up, she clutched at his shirt again, and went back to shaking, her heart racing, beating furiously. She could hear the blood pounding in her ears.
She hated this, feeling weak like this, but she couldn't shake the fear. It was an absurd fear, really- one that was for children, and dogs. Dogs seemed to be more scared of thunder than Zera, though they showed their fear through anxiety rather than actually shaking.
She bit her lip so hard she swore that she broke the skin, but she didn't. If she didn't stop, though, she would break the skin. Her eyes were squeezed shut as she moved her arms so that they were around Zane's neck, holding onto him for all she was worth.
She felt as if she let go of him for one second, nay half a second, she would lose him. She would be separated from him by the storm. The very storm that showed its fury outside by lashing its whips of lightning and roaring its thunder.

Zane shivered as he felt the girl's heartbeat spike. She grabbed his shirt, clutching onto him as if her life depended on it. He grabbed onto her, holding the girl closer. He knew just holding her tighter wasn't going to make the girl stop shaking, but it might just help. Granted, it might not, either.
Zane noticed as the girl bit her lip. She was going to break skin if she didn't stop, and with her close proximity, it would be hard for him to stop as well. But, it might make her relax. His bites would help her... But he didn't want to do that to her. He was sure that he could think of something else to make her relax.
Zane combed his fingers through Zera's hair, attempting to think of something. If he had a voice, he might have sung to her. If he was smarter, he may have remember some saying to help calm her. If he was less refined, he may have just physically tried to take her worry away. But he was none of those things.
"Zera," Zane said to the girl, catching the right moment between a break of the rumbling thunder and the crashing lightening. "If you let me bite you, I can take your worry away. All your fear will be gone with just a little prick... Let me help you."

Zera felt herself shaking, and Zane's hand through her hair was only slightly calming. It felt good to have someone mess with her hair, but she was like a dog when it came to thunderstorms- you just about couldn't calm her down. She remembered having a dog at the palace that would howl and cry and whine during thunderstorms, running and hiding under everything it could.
She was breathing heavily and quickly, like a startled deer that had run for miles. Her eyes were squeezed shut, her face buried in Zane's chest. And then she heard his voice. Just hearing his voice was a nice thing, but by itself, it didn't calm her one bit.
She knew that he was right. The bites would calm her down. They would make her drowsy, and slightly goofy. They would make her worry go away. That would make the danger go away. She would be safe, wouldn't she?
When thunder crashed again, and paused momentarily, Zera said, "Do it, please. Make it go away!" Her voice was desperate and frightened.

Zane flinched at the sound of Zera's voice. She was so scared, just purely frightened. He felt like he was taking advantage of her... Using a time where she felt vulnerable to fulfill his pleasures, and his hunger. But, if it helped her as well...
Zane stopped thinking about it and quickly brushed the Zera's hair away from her neck. He bent his head down and bit her as quickly as he could. He didn't want her to endure more pain than she had to. He didn't want her to be frightened anymore.
As the girl's blood washed over his tongue, once again, Zane bit back a moan. It seemed that every time he drank her blood, it tasted even better than the last. His whole body became aware of his surroundings. Especially the fact that Zera was practically sitting in his lap. His body buzzed with energy everywhere that hers made contact with his.
Zane drank slowly, very slowly, savoring ever second of it he could. He knew it was wrong of him to just drag this on, but he couldn't help himself. He was taunting himself with her blood, but he could handle it. Mostly, he just wanted to keep Zera right where she was for as long as he could.

Zera felt her muscles tense up for a moment when Zane bit her. She hissed in a slight moment of pain when he first broke the skin, but the hiss faded, and Zera felt herself relaxing, her muscles unwinding, her breathing evening.
She moved her arms so that they weren't clenching at his shirt anymore, but wrapped around his torso, drawing invisible circles on his shoulder blades with her index finger. The fright was fading away. The danger was leaving. She closed her eyes, tilting her head to the side. Zane hadn't let go of her yet. She didn't want him to.
When he pulled away, the feelings would come back. Slowly, but they would come back, sure enough. She felt her breathing slow down and she was completely relaxed after long.
"Thankyou, Zane," she murmured against his chest.
Putty in the vampire's hands.

Zane finished his last 'slurp' a few moments after Zera tilted her neck to the side. Why? Because he knew if he continued, he wouldn't be able to stop. Every bite just made the girl's blood all the more irresistible. Why? He hadn't a clue.
Zane pulled his teeth out her neck, gently licking the fresh would to close it up. He pressed a soft kiss over the healed skin. Her thank you surprised him. He should be thanking her just as much as she, him. He kissed the top of her head, pulled her into a hug.
"Oh course, love," He whispered back into her ear, just between lightening strikes. "I would do anything to keep you safe, to keep you happy." And he meant it, too. Perhaps it was the blood connection, perhaps not, but Zera found her way into Zane's heart. He felt something deep for her, and he didn't know if he liked it or not.
