"Or some other beast may be terminating it." Wharshin said. "It matters not."

The Mutants screams joined in, increasing in value-and variety, with some not sounded like the Rats, but certainly not sounding human.

If a man dedicates his life to good deeds and the welfare of others, he will die unthanked and unremembered. If he exercises his genius bringing misery and death to billions, his name will echo through the millennia for a hundred lifetimes. Infamy is always more preferable to ignominy-Fabius Bile

Wharshin and Ebony continued to move away from the sound.

A brick fell onto Wharshin.

Wharshin whirled to face the source of the brick.

The ground now began to shake and more bricks began to fall.

Wharshin threw his arms above his head. "This is not the ideal place for such movement."

The Shaking stopped, but what sounded like burning could be heard from above.

The noises coming from somewhere down the tunnel seemed to increase, and it seemed to be coming from in front not behind suddenly.

The noises seemed to change origin, as if always being the way you were headed.

Wharshin hummed in irritation and turned again, deciding that he'd rather not go back the way they had came if a collision was inevitable.

The sounds, although still seeming to come from the direction he was heading, quietened slightly.

I don't think I care what we run into, I just hope it kills the mask-cloak. Ebony thought.

(Sounds good)

The catacombs were a very different place from the dark, empty tunnels Sword Master had gone through. After alerting the cultists and murderers inhabiting the skull-faced depths of Paris they had assumed discovery and gone berserk, all sense of subtlety and stealth forgotten.
The walls had dark runes scratched into them with knifes and fingernails and new skulls, painted red in blood and carved into gruesome, unholy shapes were set into the walls and roofs. Dark shrines and ravaged bodies littered every corner and the very tunnels seemed to pulse with an energy, a subtle aura, that could only be described as foul. But despite the horrific changes the catacombs were still dark, dusty and empty-although the noises continued from the distance.

Wharshin continued to walk with Ebony close behind, although his pace was slower due to a combination of caution and fatigue.
Ebony's ears swiveled constantly, strained to detect even less than the slightest sound.

The first sign they had of the attack was the massive bone-carved spear landing less than an inch from Ebony's face.
Cultists burst from the walls and ceiling, smashing through the brick and skulls in a mad frenzy, swinging flails and wielding blood-stained Axes. The cultists wore red metal armor, riveted with spikes and chains and nailed into their own flesh, with ragged red and black clothing in between. Their faces scar-covered and crazed or covered by metal plates with eye holes bolted into their skull or red fabric soaked in blood. Most also carried crude pistol side arms, although some carried SMGs or heavier guns-although all were wrapped in chains and had spikes or skulls topping them.
