Snakekit wrestled with Poppykit, wailing in pain as she landed ontop of him. Her larger weight crushed the air out of him. He lashed out at her with unsheathed claws, but couldn't seem to score his claws. Finally she got off of him. "Come on!" she meowed. "Our ceremony is soon, you stupid furball!"

Snakekit only stood up shakily and snarled at her, trying to catch his breath. He was tired of being squashed under his sister.

Oakfeather sat beneath the highrock, and groomed himself patiently. Moonlight shone down on him, making his amber eyes look like a harsh immitation of gold. He rasped his tongue over his chest, letting rough purrs escape him throat as he cleaned himself.

Limefeather crawled out of her den, thin body weaving into the clearing in silence. She padded over to sit under the highrock, ears twitching rapidly as she watched her kits walk out of the nursery with silent joy. But she dragged her gaze away from them. She was a medicine cat.

Wolfstar was perched on the highrock, sivler fur dyed white in the strong moonlight. He yowled, calling a clan meeting. He waited patiently for everyone to *censored*emble.

Sablepaw parted her jaws, depending on her sense of smell to lead her safely out of the apprentice's den. She sat down, blindly, not sure of how close or far away she was from the highrock. She only listened in silence.

Lion roamed the forest, bright blue eyes narrowed as she listened to a distant yowl. Clan cats. She parted her mouth, and growled with hatred, but her stomach knew better. Where there were Clan cats, there was food. And she was starving.

Adderstrike glanced at Limefeather in p*censored*ing, and dipped his head in respect. He sat beside Feralwind and looked up at Wolfstar.

Feralwind noticed Addetstrike, but payed the other tom no mind. His gaze was fixed on his paws. He was thinking. He only had two more moons with his apprentice, Wishpaw, before she became a warrior. There was still so much to do! He wondered if Oakfeather shared the same worries about Windpaw. But he knew that Wishpaw was ready. Although she had been his first aprentice, and he had started training her only days after he himself had become a warrior, he was sure she had the skills to be a strong warrior.

Windpaw sat beside his mentor with a bored ex
pression. He flicked his ears impatiently and watched Wolfstar.

Wishpaw sat beside Sablepaw, "can you believe that in less than two moons I will be a warrior?" she purred, fur prickling in anticipation. Her tail wrapped around her paws, "But I'm not sure if I will be ready! How long until you become a warrior?" she asked.

Cougarfeather sat below highrock, eyes shining. SHe had always loved watching kits become apprentices.

_

Moonsong padded in darkness. She knew where each cat was and could pick up their distinct voices, even if they were whispering. She weaved between cats skillfull, even though she saw not one of them. Her ears told her where each was.

Dreampaw sat beside her mentor, "greeting Limefeather." she said, looking straight ahead.

Limefeather nodded at Dreampaw respectively, turning her attention back to her forbidden kits.

Oakfeather yawned, tail tip twitching back and forst as his ears flicked with distant chattering. He meowed a greeting to a pas sing cat, but quickly turned his attention to Wolfstar.

Sablepaw shrugged, wondering for the millionth time what the other apprentices looked like. What she looked like. She meowed slowly, deep in though, "I was just apprenticed three moons ago, so, I think I still have some time to go."

Snakekit sat beneath the highrock, training his lime green eyes on Wolfstar. His ears flicked, and he could feel every cat's eyes on him, but he shrugged off the feeling and fluffed out his soft kitten fur,

Poppykit sat beside her brother, chin up and gold eyes sparkling. She was focused on Wolfstar, and she was quivering with excitement.

Wolfstar called out, almost to nobody, "We gather here today, to celebrate two kit's sixth moons in Swiftclan! It is time they came to be full apprentices!" His eyes sparkled with power and wisdom beyond his years. "Snakekit; although you are small, your heart is big, and you have great promise as a warrior. From this moment on, you will be known as Snakepaw."

Snakepaw only nodded.

Wolfstar continued, "Adderstrike, you are a strong and noble warrior. I trust you to pas s all of this onto your new apprentice, Snakepaw."

Snakepaw watched his mentor with narrowed eyes.

Limefeather quivvered with pride, eyes nearly glowing as she watched Snakepaw.

Lion padded through the forest, letting her sense of smell and hearing guide her towards the Clan cats.

Adderstrike rose to his paws, "I will." He said, padding up to his new apprentice, sensing hostility from the young cat.

Wolfstar's voice boomed through the silent clearing. "Poppykit; you are brave, though sometimes rash, and you will make an excellent add to the warriors of Swiftclan. From this moment forth, you will be known as Poppypaw" His eyes shone as he continued, "It has been some time since I have had an apprentice; my last died in a horrible run-in with a badger."

"So, as leader of Swiftclan, I will mentor Poppypaw." He hopped down from the highrock, and approached her with the grace of a panther. He leaned down, and pressed his nose against her's gently.

Poppypaw pressed her nose against Wolfstar's bristling with excitement.

Snakepaw sat up straight, looking up at Adderstrike with narrowed hostile eyes. He didn't like Adderstrike; he didn't seem like one of the cats who followed the warrior code. But despite his better judgement, he leaned up and pressed his nose against Adderstrike's for less then a second. Then he drew away from him.

________

Limefeather, Sablepaw, Oakfeather, and most of the other cats started to break out into a chant. "Snakepaw! Poppypaw! Snakepaw! Poppypaw!"

Moonsong, Feralwind, Windpaw, Wishpaw, and Cougarfeather all chanted the names of the new apprentices with laud, proud voices.

Adderstrike raised one eyebrow at his new apprentice, "is this hostility necessary?" he asked.

Dreampaw watched her mentor with a look of curiosity. hmmm. Limefeather seems to be watching those kits very closely. If only I knew why. . .
