Limefeather felt her heart flutter. She teased, "My son would be a good example," she said. "But I've never seen a cat quite like you at all. You're..." she paused, staring into his eyes again. "You're different than anyone else in the forest."

Sablepaw twitched her ears. "What are you doing out here alone? Are you looking for someone?" she asked, stiffling a yawn.

~

"Because of my mom," Snakepaw mumbled, rubbing against her lightly. "And my sister. And because I'm not much bigger than a week old kit."

~

Oakfeather sighed, "It seems like it. You're so big now." he frowned. "You shot up right in front of my eyes."

~

Lionpaw nodded, listening closely to everything her mentor was saying. "I think," she said. "I understand what you cats are all about now. It's so..." she paused. "It's so important, and it makes me feel special to know I'll be helping by embracing the warrior code." 

((yes! in three years!!))

Adderstrike purred, "thanks....I think." he let her up so she wouldnt have to lay in the water, and slipped over to the s*censored*, trying to block her out of his thoughts, even though she was right next to him. Keep your distance. A voice in his head told him, you remember what happened last time. He shook out his fur in a doglike manner. But what If this time is different? He thought. Limefeather isnt Finchtail.

Cougarfeatehr blinked, "oh yeah. I'm supposed to find Oakfeather and drag him back to camp."

Dreamsplash laughed, "thats no reason to hate someone!" she said, flicking his ear gently with her tail.

Windpaw laughed, "you sound like a mother talking to her kits." he teased.

Moonsong chuckled, "what we are all about, is whatever we choose to be. This is a lifestle choice, I've met many cats who love it, and other who don't, my brother from my mothers second litter, Wolf That Howl's Alone, hated being a wild cat. He left the mountain tribes where we were born to become a kittypet, and hes never been happier. I know where he lives, right on the edge of the forest, I've never spoken to him, but I can smell him, and Cougarfeatehr has seen him with his twolegs." she laughed, "but I never did understand rouges, your lives must be so lonely!"

"Rogues," Lionpaw mused. "We... are the most misunderstood of the different types of cats. out of forest cats, kittypets, and tribe cats, we have the least known about us." She chuckled. "We believe we shouldn't have to belong to twolegs, and we shouldn't have to belong to an organized group like a clan cat. We think the forest is free for all to wander through freely, and the food is there to whoever catches it first." She frowned. "Well, they do. I'm not a rogue anymore."

Snakepaw rasped his tongue over her ear, rubbing against her flank. "I know a reason you should hate me," he said in a husky voice. "I'm sure not every cat acts like this around you."

Sablepaw chuckled. "Where'd he wander off to now?"

"Missed a spot," Limefeather said quietly, rasping her tongue over his ear.

Oakfeather sighed. "When you mentor someone," he said. "You grow to feel like they are your kit, almost." He nosed him gently. "Or, more like a little brother." 

Dreamsplash lauged, "you'd be suprised. BUt what wouldnt suprise you is what response they all get." she said. Standing up and leaving her den.

Snakepaw sat down, staring after her in awe. "I should have seen that coming..." he muttered, standing back up. He had to get back to Wishpaw before she thought anything was going on. He padded up to her, avoiding eye contact with guilt. 

Moonsong nodded, "but still, werent you ever lonely? How did you survive in winter without your Clanmates to keep you warm at night? Who took care of you when you got sick?" she asked.

Wishpaw nodded her greeting to Snakepaw, "feeling better?" she asked.

COugarfeather shrugged, "that's what Wolfstar sent me to find out."

Feralwind brushed Sablepaw's flank fently as he walked by her, "I'm going back to camp, see you two there later." he said, giving Cougarfeather a respectful nod of his head.

Adderstrike fought back the urge to purr, "thanks." he muttered.

__

Windpaw shrugged, "well, if it makes you feel better, you are a pretty good 'brother'" he purred.

"My mother," Lionpaw said simply. "My family lived together until I was about 6 moons old. After that, it was just me." She looked at Moonsong. "I survived the winter by staying in a rabbit hole; it was just big enoguh to fit me, so it warmed up pretty quickly." She paused. "And if I got sick...well, I just had to hope I'd get better."

Snakepaw bobbed his head. "I guess so," he mumbled, not looking at her.

~

Sablepaw smiled at Cougarfeather, "I'm going to go drop my mouse in the freshkill pile, then I can come and join you. Okay?" She waited for her mentor's approval.

Limefeather only drew back and nodded, heart fluttering wildly in her chest. She took a moment to stop and think. He's just another Chestnutclaw, she told herself. Pain, misery and shame. Don't put yourself through all that again. Besides, you have two kits from another tom. He doesn't like you.

Oakfeather smiled, ignoring the pain that was starting to flare up in his sprained paw. "I can't wait until it's your turn to mentor a kit," he purred. "You'll be pas sing down everything I've taught you."

Moonsong shook her head, "I cant imagine it. Even in the mountains we had a healer to take care of us."

Wishpaw purred, "great." she said.((fail!))

Cougarfeather purred, "of course Sablepaw, but be quick okay? I think it might start to rain soon and I want to be back in camp when it starts."

Windpaw laughed, "I feel bad for that poor kit!" he teased.

Lionpaw shrugged again. "It's hard, but it makes a warrior out of you. I'd prefer that life over that of a kittypet."

Oakfeather shouldered him, hissing under his breath when he moved his paw. "It's starting to hurt..." he grunted, continuing to limp.

Sablepaw nodded, jogging after Feralwind with the mosue in her jaws.

Snakepaw sat down, looking at her with guarded eyes. "Yeah. Those herbs were..." he paused, thinking about his time with the medicine cat. "interesting." 

Lionpaw nodded, getting on her feet.

Oakfeather snorted. "Maybe I should, Maybe I shouldn't. I don't care."

~

Would you eat them as an excuse to talk to a cat you like- possibly love? He wondered, lifting his head to look at her. "Uh, yeah. Haha. I hate them too."

~

Sablepaw purred back at him, fluffing out her fur with happiness. 

Feralwind slowed down so he was wlaking beside Sablepaw, his shoulder brushing lightly against hers, "so do you want to go hunting again tomorrow?" he asked.

Wishpaw chuckled, "oh well, its great that your feeling better." she purred.

Windpaw laughed, "you are a stubborn old cat, I'll give you that much." he teased.

Moonsong pricked her ears, "Windpaw and Oakfeather arent far off." she said, "and Cougarfeather, but shes alone." she observed, she looked sightlessly in the direction of Lionpaw, "want to go see what Oakfeatehr and Windpaw are up to?" she asked.

"Uh huh," She said through a mouthful of mouse.

Snakepaw nodded. "Uh, so what do we do now?"

Oakfeather nodded, smiling. "And that's enough for me."

Lionpaw shrugged, shaking out her long coat. "I don't know, it's up to you."
