Limefeather nodded, looking him full in the eyes with her enchanting lime green gaze. She began her story quietly, nearly in a whisper, so no other cat could hear. She was wrong about that, but still.

"What I was still a medicine cat apprentice, Limepaw, I met a tom named Chestnutclaw. At first, I thought we were just friends, and he always used to come to collect herbs with me. 'For protection' he called it." Her voice took on a bitter tone. "Not long after I got my medicine cat name, because my mentor, Rainpelt, pas sed onto Starclan, he told me he loved me." Her eyes wavered. "And of course, being the stupid she-cat I am, I told him I loved him too." She squeezed them shut, pain sweeping over her. "I took him as a mate." 

She sucked in a deep breath, and continued. "And not long after that, I found out I was expecting kits." She sighed. "Because I was a medicine cat, and that was forbidden, I couldn't just start staying in the nursery. I had to keep working all the way up until I kitted. That day, I was collecting Juniper berries in the forest. That's when the kits came."

She looked at him with a tender, exposed gaze. "There were three. One black, with white paws and gold eyes, one black, with a gold tail tip and green eyes like mine, and a third, gold with black stripes and gold eyes." She frowned. "The third died before I could drag them all back to camp."

"So I rolled the kits in garlic to hide their scent, and told the clan I had found them in the forest. Another queen, Specklepelt, took them and nursed them. She named them Poppykit and Snakekit." Her heart felt ready to burst. "And about two moons ago, Chestnutclaw died." Her claws sunk into the ground. "I couldn't even mourn him, because I was a medicine cat..." 

Her eyes flickered back to Adderstrike's, as she waited for his horrified reply.

"Just a little overwhelmed," Lion admitted. "But I'm okay."

Adderstrike's ears twitched, "If you're waiting for me to judge, its not going to happen." he said.

Moonsong laughed, "well hopefully you are only an apprentice for a short time! I hated being an apprentice!"

Lion frowned. "Is it hard? What's it like?" Her whiskers twitched nervously.

(( If you want. o3o; But that would pezz Limefeather off so much. She'd be all : "You ar ea greedy, greedy she-cat! You couldn't even wait for me to pas s on before you stole my role in the Clan! You betrayed the cat who told you everything you know! Starclan have shame on you!" ))

Limefeather didn't drag her eyes away from his. "So you don't care your Clan medicine cat, is a total fake? Yes, granted, Starclan still speaks to me regularly, but I broke one of the most sacred codes." Her whiskers twitched. "You know what it's like to watch your own kits grow up, knowing you can never take ownership of them, or show any kind of compas sion towards them besides the kind of compas sion you give to everyother cat?" She shook her head. "It's hard. And painful. Not to mention that I don't even have Chestnutclaw here to keep an eye on them for me. He's dead."

Moonsong thought for a moment, "no, its not really hard, I just didnt like the fact that I knew everything I needed to after a moon, my mentor had been hasty and we trained all day.so I learned pretty quick, despite my Handicap. So its just a long wait."

Adderstrike shrugged again, "So you broke a rule, so what? they tell us how we should live, not how we have to live." he pointed out.

Dreampaw held her breath to avoid gasping at what she just heard. She smiled fiendishly. So the oh-so-good Limefeather does have secrets. She thought. I knew it! Already her mind was thinking of a way to explain this to Wolfstar as she stood just outside the Medicine Cat's den.

Lion twitched her ears. "Do you think I'll do okay?" she asked.

Limefeather shook her head. "You're exactly right there. If I really had done something wrong," she said. "Starclan would have blocked me out. Completely. I mean, just last night I had a dream from Starclan." Her eyes flickered. "But I'm still sorry I did it."

Snakepaw walked up behind Dreampaw silently. "What are you doing?"he asked, voice as harsh and quick as an adder's strike.

Dreampaw jumped, "What does it matter to you kit." she hissed, then her fur flattened, "sorry. Don't sneak up on me like that!" she scolded.

Adderstrike smiled, "well, maybe StarClan just gave you a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes, and while you may regret breaking the warrior code, do you really regret loving Chesnutclaw?" he asked, his voice growing serious.

"I'm sure you will!" Moonsong meowed.

Limefeather thought about it for a moment. "I could have loved him," she said gently. "Without taking him as a mate, or having kits with him. Then I could have loved him, and remained medicine cat loyally." She didn't move her eyes from his once. "Perhaps I'll fall in love again. Who knows. Love is a funny thing."

Snakepaw didn't waver. "You're easedropping, aren't you?" He asked, smirking impishly. "Well, you aren't doing it right. See, your shadow is falling across the doorway. You have to stand like this," he moved to the left. "And breath through your nose very slowly, so they can't hear you."

He blinked, and rolled his eyes. "You may know herbs, but you obviously don't know how to sneak around, like I do."

Lion nodded, smiling.

"Well thats no love at all is it?" Adderstrike whispered, "because then its nothing but a crush." His amber gaze forcefully turned itself away from Limefeather. He looked at the wall of the den, You've been hurt once by an allowed love. A voice in his head said, don't let youself get hurt by a forbidden one.

Dreampaw snorted, "I'm not eavesdropping! It was an accident!" she hissed, "I have every right to be here and don't have to hide from anyone!" she said.

Snakepaw challenged her, "Really? Then walk in now and tell them you've been standing there for over five minutes." He narrowed his eyes. "Because that's how long you've been there." His golden tail tip twitched.

Limefeather flicked her ears, and turned around to start sorting through her herbs again. Her claws dug into the ground, and the fur along her spine bristled. Starclan was telling her something; she was in trouble. Big trouble. 

Her eyes trailed over to Adderstrike. She knew the trouble had something to do with her story. He wouldn't tell, would he? She narrowed her eyes, standing up stiffly. He'd better not tell aynone.

The air inside her den was stale and thick all of a sudden, making her feel crowded and uncomfortable. All of her fur was standing on end, and she was stiff as a board. Little alarms were going off in her head.

Dreampaw chuckled, "It was a coincidnece, and what are you going to do? tell them yourself?" she asked, fluffing her fur on end, towaring above Snakepaw, "listen here kit, this never happened and you didnt see or hear anything." she spat in his face, teeth bared, "got it?"

Adderstrike looked back at Limefeather and tilted his head, "are you okay?" he asked.

Snakepaw fluffed up himself, snarling angrily deep in his chest. "Call me kit again," he hissed, unsheathing his claws. "And I'll slash your face just like I slashed Windpaw's, got it? You keep your ugly mug, and I keep my mouth shut."

He spun around, and stalked away, eyes flaring angrily. He wanted to talk to someone. Poppypaw hated him, Feralwind was too awkward, all the other apprentices hated him...except for Wishpaw. 

But he didn't know where she was, and wasn't about to go look for her.

Limefeather shook her head. "Starclan's sending me a message," she mewed. "Trouble. Big trouble ahead for me. That's what the crow-food in the fresh kill pile meant. Trouble. Big...trouble...." Her eyes darkened. 

Dreampaw Flexed her claws and trotted after Snakepaw, "keep in mind little one, I know all the plants in this forest. I know which of them are poisonous, and which are tasteless. So if you ever call me ugly again, blackmail me, or tell anyone, don't be shocked if you dont wake up." she spat, pading out of camp.

Wishpaw basked in the sun, her black and orage fur slowly warming up.

Adderstrike blinked, "but what kind of trouble? I'm not going to tell anyone anything" he said.

Snakepaw rolled his eyes; he wasn't the least bit afraid of Dreampaw. Or any cat, for that matter. The first lesson Tigerstar had taught him was that fear is weakness. And you were never to show your enemies weakness.

He sat down next to Wishpaw in silence.

Limefeather shook her head, eyes still wide. Her fur was starting to lay flat, but she couldn't shake her horrible feeling. "I don't know." she muttered. "I don't know."

Wishpaw opened one of her deep green eyes, "hello." she meowed.

"Well calm down!" Adderstrike meowed, "freaking out is getting us nowhere!" ((nigh-night moo!!!!!))

"Nothing else is helping either!" she snapped at him, narrowing his eyes. "Why don't YOU do soemthing, sinse you are SO wise?" Limefeather hissed, tail lashing.

Snakepaw only glanced down at her for a moment. "Hello Wishpaw." He added quietly, "Thanks for letting me sleep in your bed last night. That was..." he struggled for the right words. "Nice."

"It would help if I knew what kind of trouble we are up against." Adderstrike meowed.

Wishpaw smiled, "no problem. I will make another nest tonight." she said, "it's no big deal."

Snakepaw nodded, eyes trained on the ground. He let his mind wander only a little bit, not wanting to drop his guard.

Limefeather muttered a curse under her breath, and tried to relax a little. "We'll find out soon," she said grimly.

Adderstrike nodded.
