[[ I came on like 2 hours ago specifically for this rp, and I'm just now getting to it. So sorry for the wait. ]]
My friendly brown eyes turned to genuine concern. Bad men were chasing her? Well it's a good thing she hid in a barrel that was sent to my ship. Who knows who she would have ran into if she came across another ship.
"Well, it's alright, lass."
I said in a soft voice. She seemed so lost and afraid, and she couldn't be a day over twenty. My heart went out to her distraught ex pression.
"I'm just glad you stumbled upon my ship. I won't hurt you, lassie." I came closer, though my steps were obviously hesitant so I wouldn't scare her off.
"Can I offer you a drink? We can sit down and you can tell me a bit more about these lads chasing you here."

English. This man was clearly English, Eden thought. Very, very clearly English. He even called her lass, and lassie.
He believed her. He actually believed her. It was good. Though Eden was a ridiculously good liar, she got nervous every time she lied. She feared that her lies would be transparent, and easily detected.
It almost broke her heart that the man seemed to be so kind. She thought that he would take her to the nearest port and drop her off. Instead, he said he was glad that she got on his ship. And said he wouldn't hurt her.
She moved forward hesitantly, making sure to keep up her timid act. "Thankyou for being so kind..." She bit her lip nervously. "A drink would be nice."
She would have a drink, and she was almost sure that he would drop her off at the nearest port after figuring out what happened to her. Well, after she lied to him again. The worst things about lies is that you usually had to make them up on the spot, and it was very easy to forget what lie you told someone.

My heart broke at the woman's meekness. I hoped she knew now that, even though we were in the middle of the sea by ourselves, I wouldn't think of putting a hand on her. I kept her at a respectful distance as I walked to a tiny cooler to hold my water.
"That's no problem at all."
I said, giving her a small smile before pushing my glasses up on my nose, opening the cooler, and grabbing a water for her.
"There you go, lass."
I said, throwing her the water bottle (Did they have those? o.o) before grabbing another for myself. Chugging down some water, I sat down on the wooden, yet sturdy, floor boards. "If I knew I'd be having lady company aboard, I would have brought a seat for you."
I said, giving her a apologetic smile as I leaned my back on the wall of the ship.
"So, would you be so kind as to tell this lad your name?"
I said, my tone more soft. I worried she might be in some mighty trouble.

Ooc:// They didn't have water bottles, so I'll pretend that he tossed her a canteen. XD
Bic://
The man had extreme manners. He was so polite, and nice, and.... He was a human, she reminded herself. All humans seemed to have something against Valkyries, hunting them like the birds that they flew with for sport. She had a feeling that the bastard that shot her would want her mounted on his wall for his guests to see.
She inwardly shuddered at the thought of herself being stuffed and freeze-dried, then placed on a wall like some sort of... trophy.
When he tossed her a canteen, she had no trouble catching it. As soon as the container made its way into her hands, the ebony-haired girl opened the thing and chugged about half of the water down. She'd been flying for a while, so she was quite parched, really. Plus, there was the whole ordeal where she fell. Just falling made her thirsty.
He was even kind enough to say that he would have prepared a seat for her if he had known she would show up. Nonetheless, she sat down a few feet across from the man. Then he asked for her name, and Eden contemplated for a while.
Her people had told her that there was a lot of power in someone's name. It was something that could control people, yet it made them their own person. It gave them something to be proud of. Because, no matter if you loved or hated your name, it was yours to keep. Yours to say. Yours to remember.
She answered truthfully. It wasn't like he could use some sort of magic on her if he knew her name- she hoped that, at least.
"My name is Eden. May I know your name, sir?"

[[ Knowing you're on makes me tempted to come back online. D: ]]
The fact that the timid girl sat down with out complaint told me she didn't really care about the chair. Good. At least no snobby rich girl was coming aboard. When she accepted the canteen, I noted she drank a lot of it, which might have meant that she has been running from these men for quite some time.
I didn't mean to scrutenize the girl, but I also noted how she hesitated on telling me her name. Surely she didn't think I was one of these men, right? Finally, though, she came out with it. I gave her a crooked grin.
"Eden. The name fits for a lass like you."
I said more to myself in thought as I took a gulp of water. My brown eyes danced in that genuine friendliness and kindness that was always in my ex pression.
"You can call me Nick. Which is short for Nicholas."
I let that sink in for only a moment before changing the subject.
"So, will you tell me Eden what kind of trouble you're in?"

Eden took a few more sips of water as the man spoke to her. So his name was Nicholas. Hm, like that big fat guy that some people called 'Santa'. She'd heard of him from a radio program. With a small amount of listening, she figured out that he went by many names- Old Saint Nick, Santa, Santa Clause... Those were only a few of the ones that he'd heard children excitedly referring to him as.
He asked her what kind of trouble she was in. What type of trouble could she come up with. Nothing like stealing. That would make him wary of her. Not murder, not assault.... Got it!
"Well, Nick, I sort of walked in on something I shouldn't have a few years ago. These men, they were planning something sinister- what exactly it was, I'm still not sure to this day..." She paused. "Anyways, they caught me when I walked in- I was new to the town, and I was exploring all of these boarded off places. They were in an abandonded clothing factory."
"When they caught me, they held me hostage for a few months, and I escaped eventually. They've been after me ever since..." She chewed on her lips. Time for some theatrics. "They've done such horrible things to me..." She let her face twist in sadness, and forced a few tears to roll down her face. She let out a choked sob.

As she spoke of this trouble she was in, my kind eyes were once again replaced with concern. I ran a hand through my blonde hair, not knowing what to do once she started crying. I may be a nice man, but I don't think any man knew how to handle a woman crying.
So, doing the only thing I could think of, I silently stood up from where I was and crossed the floor to sit next to her. Once there, I put a arm around her, my other hand forcing her head, gently, to lay against my shoulder. I wasn't a big man, but I still had a shoulder to cry on.
"I can't imagine."
I said, my eyebrows furrowing in compassion. I could only think that they took advantage of her, by the looks of things. I could be wrong, and I wouldn't ask if I was - though I did hope so.
"Eden, you don't worry. I won't let those men ever touch you again." In any way, since I had no desire to hear which way she meant.
That was a big flaw with some lads. Most big men use it to their advantage, always fighting, bullying and hurting lassies just because they're bigger then others.
"Do you need a place to stay?"
It was then that I realized that she might not feel comfortable with it just being me and her there. I quickly added, "I have my wife's mother living at my home as well, so you have another lass to spend some time with." I won't add that my wife has been dead for quite some time now.

Eden didn't drop her facade when she heard Nicholas come towards her. Though she wanted to scream, and run, or attack, then fly away, she couldn't. Her wing was aching her quite badly, too, so running would be a challenge. She let out a few more choked sobs before she felt his arm wrap around her shoulders, and gently guide her head to lay on his shoulders.
Eden had never been in such close proximity with a human man. As hostile as some humans were, Eden couldn't help but enjoy this- being close to this kind man. This man, who had manners. The man that had said he wouldn't let the men touch her again, even though there were no men.
She felt herself tense up at first, seeing as how it was unusual for her to be doing this. Her muscles clenched, and she stopped sobbing for a moment. However, that wasn't theatrics. That was real. It startled her. Eventually, she relaxed, and let out a shaky sigh, which was part of her act.
Did she need a place to stay? Well, she usually slept in the trees with the birds, but she'd slept in a bed once, and it was so comfortable. The only downside was that she was slightly claustrophobic. She reminded herself to sniffle before answering. She did need a place to stay. Sleeping in the trees would jar her wing, most likely.
It was a comforting thought to know that there would be the man's wife and his mother-in-law at the house as well. At least she wouldn't be alone. At least, she thought his wife would be there. He almost spoke of her as if only her mother would be there...
"I could use a place to stay," Eden said after a while. "Thankyou for being so kind. I know I'm probably getting a bit annoying with all of the thanking, but this means so much to me."

I keep giving you really fail, short posts on this role play so I have to know as much as possible so it at least looks a little longer... :D ]]

Ooc:// When you get off of a ship, you sail it into the docks, dock it, and get off of it. In that order. XD

[[ I posted on it now just for you. <3 ]]
I smiled down at Eden. She still seemed so fragile and lost, it broke my heart. "It's quite alright, lassie. It's not like I have an opportunity to help someone out often, lately." Ever since the death of Sally, people tended to stay away. Not because I seemed dangerous or anything, but they just didn't want to get involved. Probably didn't want the burden from someone else's life on their shoulders. Which didn't make any sense to me, since that's the whole point of being a friend in the first place.
Ah well. I was pretty easy going and didn't care much. Plus, you always know who your true friends are once something like that tragedy happened. I'd rather them stay away then just seem like friends to me.
~><><><><><><><><><><><~
I had left Eden so I could steer the ship around and to the docks. I was guessing she was probably starving, seeing as she's been running from men for quite some time, plus she may want a bath or sleep. Once again, my heart broke at the thought. How could someone look at Eden, someone who seemed so pure and good - probably from the way she had cried, I thought that - and hurt her in any way? How could any man hurt a woman? I shook my head. Those lads will get an earful from me if I ever run into them. I may be more lean then muscular, but that didn't mean I was a coward.
I sailed the ship up to the dock before turning and calling for wherever Eden ended up once I left. "We're here, lass!" I called out before grabbing my cooler of canteens and walking to the exit. (Wherever that is. o.o)

Eden had stayed on the top of the ship. Nicholas seemed like such a nice man... It was sad that she was lying to him. He just seemed so genuine, and real. Like he seriously cared about her well being, even though he'd just met her. Still, she was wary of him. She was wary of all humans. She couldn't help it- it was burned into her blood from past experiences. And the bullet wound still burning the tip of her wing. The bullet was still smashed against the bone. She could faintly feel it.
She had ended up laying down on her stomach, seeing as laying on her back would hurt her injured wing. If anyone looked closely, they could see a few feathers sticking out of her jacket, due to her relaxed position. Her wings had fanned out a tiny bit, but not too noticeably.
When she heard Nick's voice, she sat up, and made sure that her wings were virtually invisible again. Who would've thought that she could actually pull off the act of being a human. And not just any human- a human being chased by psychotic men that caused her to hide in a barrel. When in reality, she'd just been shot by some psychotic human out to kill her just for being a Valkyrie.
She stood up, readjusting her jacket, and moved towards his voice. She found him at the exit, and joined him. "How far is it to your home?"

Coming off of the ship, I waited for Eden to show herself. I had more questions, like where her family is, if they were searching for her... The normal questions to ask. But I didn't want to seem like a burden so that's why I kept her to herself when I steered the ship. She probably was exhausted by now from all of the running.
"So close we can walk." (Mostly because I have no idea what transportation method he would use |D -kicks google for not working- )
I said with a smile as I put my hands in my pockets.
"You must be starving. I'll try to get you home as soon as possible so Lynda can make us something."
I gave her another grin before lifting a hand to help her down. (If she needs it. D|) Lynda was my mother - in- law and since Sally's death, she refused to stop working. It was like I had my own personal maid who didn't ask for any money. It was an advantage but I would trade the luxury for my wife back any day.

Eden was glad that they wouldn't have to get into one of those strange looking things that had wheels. What were they called again..... Steam cars, that was it! They produced so much pollution. And it was good to know that she wouldn't have to be pulled around in a carriage either, seeing as how those were popular, also. Horses didn't like her too much, it seemed. Perhaps it was because she smelled like an animal and a human to them.
She was hungry. She hadn't eaten in a while, and with all of the flying she did every day, her metabolism was lightning-fast. It was almost unfair that she couldn't eat and then be full for more than an hour or two. After an hour or two, she'd be ravenous again.
Oh, so Lynda must be his wife. She thought that, at least. Perhaps it was his wife's mother. Either way, she sounded friendly. She took Nicholas's offered hand and hopped off of the ship. Immediately, her legs felt wobbly due to the lack of the gentle rocking sensation she'd received while being on the boat. She stumbled at first, but regained her balance for good and laughed slightly, her cheeks red from embarrassment.
"You lead, I'll follow."

[[ I shall time skip to the home. :u http://planetoddity.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/steampunk-house-1.jpg ]]
After only a couple minutes, my house was in view. It was quite big, Sally had wanted it - called it her dream home - because she wanted many children. When she died, it was already paid for, so I chose to keep it instead of move. Besides, I had too many memories in that home to just walk away from it all. Just because the pain hurt great at times, didn't mean I would want to forget.
"There it is."
I said pointing to the blue house with a stone wall. We had a big yard - no other houses were around - because Sally wanted me to build a big playground for all of our kids. Yeah, I hadn't been looking forward to that fun.
I led her up the stairs and the second my hand went to the door knob, it opened by itself, accompanied by a salt and pepper haired lady with a apron.
"Nicholas, you're just in time. Suppers ready."
She had a obvious fake up beat in her tone, which has been since Sally passed. I wished she'd understand that Sally wouldn't want us to mourn forever, only for a season. And the season is done for.
"Lynda, we have a guest. The lassie's name is Eden."
I smiled back at her, another crooked grin. I chose not to explain about the 'men chasing her' problem, seeing as I didn't know how happy she would be about that. Lynda seemed to brighten her attitude - not fake this time - when she saw the ebony - haired girl behind me. I guess she's been feeling lonely with just me around, which was rare. While she worked here, I worked outside of home.
"Oh, how wonderful! I'll show you where you can sleep."
She didn't seem at least one bit concerned that it was a woman, to my relief. Any time I even looked at a woman - in the most innocent ways, I should add - Lynda would give me a scared look. Like, 'is he over my daughter already?' look. She was like my second mother, so I never said I noticed those looks. Sweeping out my arm to the doorway, I looked back at Eden,
"Come on inside and take a look around your new home."

Eden was mesmerized by the home. It was beautiful, and looked like the kind of home that people would have a large family in. Before they even opened the door, the door opened itself, revealing a woman with graying hair. Nicholas's mother-in-law, she guessed. She seemed nice, though her tone was a bit too uppity, and sounded slightly fake.
It seemed that the woman didn't notice her at first. A smile spread on her face upon hearing that there was food already cooked. When Nicholas introduced her, Eden chose not to say anything, and instead gave Lynda a polite nod, with a small smile.
Lynda seemed to brighten a bit- more naturally- when she saw Eden, the ebony-haired girl noticed. It was interesting that Eden actually could make someone's attitude a bit happier. She usually had a tendency not to affect peoples' attitudes at all. She reminded herself to keep up the injured, scared, timid act. If she dropped it for even one second, they may become suspicious.
She couldn't help but notice how Nick said it was her new home. It sounded like he was a master telling a new dog that this was his house. His territory. She shook the thoughts off. Eden never would belong to anyone. Nobody would ever claim her as their 'pet' though some sick humans had claimed many Valkyries and sold them as slaves and 'companions', seeing as how many Valkyrie women and men were quite attractive.
She stepped through the threshold and looked at Lynda, waiting for her to show her to her sleeping quarters.

I hoped my mother in law's more brightened attitude at seeing Eden didn't scare her off. Sometimes, more quiet people don't enjoy more... Obnoxious people. And Lynda has always been a big mouth. But I was happy to see the genuine smile on her face that I haven't seen since Sally's passing. "Follow me, dear."
I heard Lynda say as she held out her hand for the girl to take. (Lynda is a NPC. So you can power play or whatever since I'm not giving you much here.)
"I'll get the table set up for you two." I said, lifting my hat before putting it back on my head in a more 'farewell' gesture before leaving the two to head for the kitchen. Once there, I grabbed another plate for Eden, once seeing that Lynda already had the table set for us too. Getting everything situated for Eden's seat, I snuck into the kitchen and took a peak at what we were eating. Chicken broth. (I know. Travis had the same thing. My creativity is lacking with food. :D) I smiled. I think Lynda knew it was my favorite.
