Eighteenth century England, and the monarchy is scrabbling to gather up all the mutants it can. Why? They need information on the French, because the revolution is sending Europe into an uproar. England and France have always had a longstanding enmity, but these days suspicion reigns and no one can be too careful.
Unfortunately, mutants would create more chaos than Queen Anne can deal with and she requires utmost secrecy. To prevent them from banding together and proclaiming their existence, and to make sure they stay under her power, the Queen has decreed that two 'gangs' are to sell information to the monarchy in return for money, land, stature and protection.
They now reside in France, infiltrating the court of Louis XV and creating dissent in those favouring the revolution.
They are incognito; they are ghosts.
They are Les Réprouvés. |

Les Réprouvés is only the everyday name for these mutants. They are divided into two factions, both named for famous French spies; Chev[injection]alier and Moray.
These two compete for money and prestige from the English monarchy, recruiting only the brightest individuals for their endeavours. Their members are, at the least, fluent in French and English and have been trained in the art covertcy. Fools are not tolerated and in their world, Information reigns.

What are mutants?
They are different; unique. Few can claim to be one and fewer to know one (should they, well...). Mutants have minor physical alterations, and those that survive infancy would not have ones that are visible. But they are so much more than this. They can harness the form of an animal and each appears to have its own exclusive ability.
Some grow up living in hiding, afraid to create relationships with those who are not what they are and some even fear what they have become, going utterly mad.
But we are not here to talk about them. It is the skilled ones the monarchy requires; the ones that can spy with ease and make their way into the French society, sowing discord wherever they go.
Cardinal points
*physical discrepancies should be minimal and invisible when the mutant is clothed. Midwives and doctors are ordered to hand over the more... odd looking ones to the monarchy. *One animal is the maximum for a mutant, and they must be real. *Talents cannot be over the top, though those with the potential for godmod are fine. Just don't abuse that trust.

Personality; She is the trickster, spinning webs of deceit and trickery and delighting over the little morsels it catches. She is the seductress, using beauty and charm to overcome her enemies. She is La Belle, daughter of Lyon and the leader of Chev[injection]alier, rising in power from those humble beginnings as a barber's daughter.
She has risen far. Claudette is a prideful lady, forever scorning those below her, and yet... she catches them with her charisma and gentle smiles, teasing insults in between cooed flattery.
Claudette is a Queen. History; Born to a barber in Lyon, Claudette was a girl from humble beginnings. She went hungry, begged and stole to survive. She learned on the streets that information is everything. She learned how to steal and to lie, to climb the buildings and leap across rooftops. Claudette never forgot those lessons, choosing only to delight in her gifts at puberty and putting them to use as soon as they were mastered.
She never felt ostracized by society - rather, as she grew older and become a famous girl at one of the bordellos, she was loved. Sweet, flirtatious and beautiful, she was the love of Lyon. Perhaps it went to her head, and perhaps it drew the attention of a certain Queen Anne.
Patriotism was never her strong suit and Claudette drifted over to the English, lured by promises of a ladyship and land of her own. Of course, all after she sold them the information they wanted.
Animal; Serval - white Talent; Compulsion
Physical discrepancies; Hands and toes are faintly webbed, the fact hidden by gloves and shoes. Appearance; Hair is long and golden, almost white in colour. Face is delicate and sweet, nose slightly upturned and eyes wide and innocent, the colour of the sea. Skin is like white silk and as smooth as flower petals. Body is middling, perhaps at 5'4" in height, and body slim and muscled from years as a courtesan and, dare I say it, thief.

Name; Duncan Fleming Age; 30 Gender; male
Personality; Duncan knows how to lie low. With his average appearance - and unexceptional transformation animal - he's able to spy and blend into crowds with hardly an effort. He does not make himself conspicuous or attract attention to himself. This includes resisting the approaches of women, wearing fine clothes, and drinking out late. With fewer people to care for, the riskier he can behave. Despite this, he has a strong sense of justice and does not gamble with the lives of civilians during disputes or disagreements. To an extent, he is quite a decent man, just very selective in deciding who is worthy of his respect. To preserve his precious self-awareness, he takes no notice of compliments or words of praise, judging any skill he might have by his own success. Duncan has his eyes set on success and wealth but aspires to have a quieter life if he lives long enough - and is able to eventually sever himself from the Moray Gang.
History; Duncan was born near the coast on the South of Scotland, son of a herder and a weaver. His parents first saw his transformations ungodly and unacceptable, but they grew to see the value in his unique talent. He could scout and feel changes in the weather, which benefited his father's lore of caring for livestock on the harsh moorlands of his home. They eventually bade him farewell as he flew to England at the age of nineteen, winding his way down to the more urban outskirts of London to mind the horses of a noble family. But a fellow employee was a mutant too, tolerated with the family, and fully aware of the mutants' involvement with the French Revolution. He referred Duncan to an officer working for the queen after noticing how skilfully discreet he could be, and the gull-boy was taken to France under supervision to join the Moray gang. At twenty-two, he replaced the Beta prior to his unexpected death, and has been its Beta ever since.
Animal; Herring gull Talent; Immunity to all poisons, toxins and venoms, whether in an altered or pure form, botanic or from an animal. He can die from disease or bacterial infection however. The harmful results of certain alcohols on him are also subdued, if not completely ineffective (since some can contain forms of toxins).
Physical discrepancies; None. Appearance; Around 5"10. Very short, scuffy brown hair that is rarely clean. Hazel-coloured irises but the whites of his eyes are rather prominent, like a gull's eyes. At first he may not strike one as instantly attractive. But I guess Duncan has one of those faces that grows handsome over time. He is neither thin nor fat, but he tends to rely on strength and stamina as opposed to speed and agility (if escape is required, he can always fly).

Nationality; Scottish. Lives in England. He has a distinguishable accent but he can adapt it to sound French or English (he's still in the process of mastering the latter, however). Other; Not really.

Personality: I'll RP it out, but for the most part; quiet, sultry, mild to bad temper, and the unspoken-powerful type.
History: There isn't a lot to him, not that he'd say. His parents abandoned him when they found out what he was, and he was raised by Carson until he was old enough to set out on his own. Unlike most, the other mutants didn't find him, he found the mutants.
Animal: Mink
Talent: Well, if you mean ability, then it would be to teleport himself, disappearing in a smoke-like cloud, then appearing a nanosecond later at up to 10 yards away. This is very taxing for him. [Yes, for those of you who are wondering, it is a bit like X-men's "Nightcrawler"]
Physical Discrepancies: He hides a black, devil-hooked tail underneath a long overcoat, and has cat-like legs due to the fact that he walks on the balls of his feet. His canines are just a little elongated, but not noticeably. He can hide these easily, with the typical, long pants, and his black jacket for the tail. Nobody would notice his teeth, and he rarely smiles as it is. He is one of the more apparent mutants allowed, but because he can hide it they have allowed him to stay; not that they could have caught them anyway.
Appearance: Relatively slim, and a bit tall, he has angular features and a handsome appearance. He has slightly pale, golden skin, and dusty blonde hair.
Faction: Chev[injection]alier
Rank: Beta, if it's not yet taken.
Nationality: Born in France, only a stone's toss from the border. Yet he has always felt more English than French.

I don't think they would have had contact lenses in the 18th century and I doubt he would be able to see if they did. :[

(( XD Yeah, you're right. I think they have glasses back then, at least? I dunno.
And for his skin, he wears long overcoats and such, as was common back then. He really only needs to do his face and hands, and is careful when he does. He isn't one to make a lot of contact with humans, anyway.
But yes, most of it anyway. In England at the time everybody seemed to use powder, as pale skin was considered very attractive. In this case, when he uses it, it has the same effect, only a little darker.
I can create a new character if I need to, I won't be offended. xD
