Sylvari's tail swayed back and forth, kinking up before relaxing as a snarl twisted her lips. Black eyes narrowed into fearsome slits as she stalked towards Travis. "Your leader is a pompous jerk. And from what I saw, he was treating you like sh!t. Now tell me, is that how a leader treats those under him?" Instead of waiting for an answer, she spat out a "No" as her forked tongue flickered out before vanishing behind flesh rippers.
"Covens are horrible places to live for vampires," she growled. "But if you want to go and get treated like dirt by a male who shouldn't lead, then go ahead." Sylvari turned back towards her cousins, their eyes glowed different colours in response to what she was saying. They agreed with her. No leader should treat people like sh!t.
Slowly, she shifted back to her base -- her human -- form and crossed her arms against her chest. Her black eyes were no longer on Travis, they were glued to the floor in front of her feet. "I only wounded your leader because he was hurting me. I may be a demon, but I am half-human. And I only attack when I've been hurt in any way shape or form. It is the same with my cousins." Her black eyes flickered back up to Travis's face.
Where the drops of blood had fallen, icy blue shadows came up and licked at the dots, slowly removing them from the floor until it was spotless. Then, the shadows faded. At Ariskye's nod, her younger cousin silently said that the illusion for the humans had ended so now they could see what was actually going on instead of what was being hidden.
"Hey all, welcome to Sanctuary. We're Evisceration," Jace said through the mic, causing the crowd to cheer. "We're going to start this off with a bit of Five Finger Death Punch. Ya'ready?" When the crowd's cheer turned into a roar, the band started up. The music flowing into the beat of the song. It stayed like that for a good minute before Jace stepped up to the mike and started the lyrics.
"To the haters, the takers, the liars, all the vultures and the bottom feeding scum The FCC, the FBI and every tin god with a badge and a gun You talk and talk, you preach and b!tch but your words don't mean a thing You get what you give, you give what you get Just the way it's always been.
"I choose death before dishonor I'd rather die than live down on my knees Bury me like a soldier, with my dignity!
"You imitate the ostracized, put your head beneath the sand Your cup it runneth over, must be rough to live so grand You reap what you sew, you pay what you owe unless you bathe yourself in greed You rob and you take, your world is fake There's no honor amongst the thieves"
[[ If you want to hear the song, Google "Death before Dishonor by Five Finger Death Punch." Though, it might not be the kind of music you like to listen to. :/ ]]

I realized then that the reason she had me stay was not to have the control but to keep me away from the vampires that didn't treat me no better. If I was analyzing her words correctly, she was trying to help.
But I didn't care. I was a man. I didn't need her fighting my battles. I could do them myself... Right?
Well I've had all the time in the world to fight the battles - them being the vampires in the coven - yet haven't mustered up the nerve to fight them yet. Maybe I ran into Sy to be my gentle nudge. Not so gentle but... A nudge all the same.
I stood there with out moving until the music started playing, reminding me of where I was. I bl[injection]inked, looking from Sy to the vampires now disappearing from the building. With out any more hesitation, I hurried for the exit to follow my members. Since I've always been a born follower.

Sylvari had turned her attention to the band when they had started playing. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Travis leave to follow the rest of his coven. Her shoulder slumped, and she felt a bit defeated. She honestly wanted to help the vampire. But, it was obvious he didn't need nor want her help.
She felt strong arms pull her into a hug and got an eyeful of white. She wrapped her arms around Cain's waist.
"Don't worry about it Sy," he rumbled. "Sometimes people don't realize they need help until the last minute." Then, he muttered something about "even if they are a vampire." Cain was very biased about vampires. He just didn't like them. The rest of her cousins were chill about vampires. But Cain hated them for reasons unknown.

Though Dave acted as the leader of the coven, the true leader wouldn't have been so petty with the demons. Dave ended up being alright for the most part, but cursed every other moment about the demons and how he would seek revenge even if it was the last thing he did.
I hoped he would learn when he healed that he stood no chance. But then again, his ego was too high up to care.
I sat on a chair by Dave's bed as the other members of the coven cleared out. "You're an idiot." I mumbled, leaning back on the chair so the front legs were lifted and the back was leaning against the wall. Dave looked to me with a glare. "I wasn't the one who willingly followed a demon into the Sanctuary. This is all your fault."
I ran a hand a long my jaw, but abruptly stopped at his words. I was sick of holding my tongue and I think that was obvious as I jumped up from the seat so fast, the chair flew across the room and broke into pieces on the floor. I stood by the bed Dave lay in, my fists clenching. "Nothing would have happened if you hadn't followed me. Everything would have been fine."
Dave seemed to find my show of anger amusing, because he started to chuckle. "You know, you can be quite intimidating if you really tried. To bad you don't scare me." Clenching my jaw, I reached for his neck, my fingers squeezing against his cold skin. I heard a crack of some sort but my state of mind wasn't the most aware.
Footsteps resounded the hallway outside but I didn't care. Again, my state of mind wasn't aware enough to care. Lifting Dave as I held onto his neck tightly, I threw him across the room. I threw him so hard through my anger that he went through the concrete wall, the second wall that made the hallway outside, and through the window in the third wall. Glass shattered as he hit the ground. I heard a familiar voice from a friend of Dave's in the coven who ran for Dave's room. This was it. I couldn't be here. They'd look at me as the enemy, even more then they already did.
I opened the window in the bedroom, climbed out, and closed it just before the members came in to see what the ruckus was all about. I wasn't sure what else I was supposed to do. Dave was already weak, but I had cracked his head deeply when I threw him.
If I killed him, I had no idea what the true leader would do to me.
With that fear in my mind, I ran away from the house that held my coven aimlessy; knowing fully well they'd find me.

It was some time later, after Evisceration, that the group of half demons decided to leave. It was late enough and the Howlers were taking the stage. As the two humans in the band packed up their instruments into a truck behind the restaurant, the cousins gathered together. It was something they usually did after a concert, but this one was filled with anything but congratulations.
"Are you sure you're okay, Sy?" Jace asked, golden eyes swirling with concern as he held her wrists.
She had pushed back the sleeves to reveal her forearms. Which now sported deep coloured bruises. So much for being a demon. And the scales that banded her arm were dented and pressing uncomfortably against her skin. Two of the icy blue scales had been removed entirely and dried blood crusted the area.
Sylvari sighed. "I'm fine. How many more times must I say that?" she demanded.
"Until we find ourselves believing it," rumbled Draek behind her. She glanced behind her and looked into his forlorn deep crimson eyes. He had wanted to use his healing blood to take the bruises away and fix the scales that had been broken, dented, and removed. But Sylvari had refused any help, preferring it to heal on their own.
Her black eyes narrowed into a glare and she pulled her wrists out of Jace's grasp. "I'm. Fine," she growled, baring her fangs a little bit, as she broke out of the almost circle. Drakine was leaning against a wall with her arms against her chest. She knew that Sylvari was fine despite the protestations of her cousins. Nodding her head once to the Hellfire users, she exited Sanctuary and walked to her apartment complex.

Dodging every tree in my path, I ran from the members of the coven as fast as I could with my heightened speed. Soon, once I came to the end of the forest that led to the city where I had been just an hour before, the scent of the members disappeared. They must have given up.
I kept running anyways. They probably thought that I'd come crawling back to them anyways, me being so new to the life of a vampire. But I couldn't. I wouldn't.
I stopped my running as I came to the streets; the same streets where I had scared the girl before. As I was walking, I turned my head with out stopping my feet to see if they were still away from me, only to have my large (srsly large.) frame bang against another body.

Sylvari, for some strange reason, had not been paying much attention to where she was going. Instead she found herself with a face full of upper chest and a solid body that halted her forward movement, making her stagger back instead. With her legs spread, she managed to keep her balance, but her front hurt a little. She paid little attention to the pain, her black eyes focusing the person who ran into her.
"Hey buddy," she started off, ready rip the male a new one before she realized who it was, "you should wa-- Travis?" Her head cocked to one side, black eyes widening for a second.

Thoughts of the members of my former coven were lost as I looked down at the body I had rammed right into. My hands instinctively went to hover at her sides if she did fall, but after seeing who it was, I put my hands to my sides.
I stuffed my hands in my jean pockets. I was just as surprised as she. "Hey." I said with a shrug at her question. I impulsively looked behind me, worry etched in my features. "I... I was a bit preoccupied. Sorry."

Sylvari glanced behind him as he did, curious about why he was doing it. She could see the worry on his face and in his mind, but she lacked the ability to dig deeper to find out. It irked her 'cause she wanted to figure it out on her own instead of asking him.
"Whatchu preoccupied with?" she asked, finally giving up trying to figure it out on her own.

When I looked back at Sy, I realized her question wasn't something I could swirve around and avoid. She was a demon, just attacked our leader. Well and wanna-be leader but a leader none the less. "Uh..." I stuttered, resisting the incredible urge to look behind me again. "Just a little bit of trouble I got myself in to."
I said, a nervous, crooked smile taking over my features.

At the sight of his crooked smile twisting his lips, she felt a flutter of something deep in her stomach. What was it? This feeling. She knew she had felt it before, long before she met Travis, but she couldn't put a name to this feeling. Oh Shadow Gods.
She bl[injection]inked her black eyes a few times before asking, "By 'trouble' you mean something happened in your coven?" she asked.

Once again, my eyes had to resist the urge to look behind me. It was what any guilty man would do. "Who said that?" I said, my eyes finally meeting her's once more. "I didn't say that. It's nothing about my coven. Why? Did you see them? They're not here, are they?"
I passed her to look behind me and swirve around to look and seeing no familiar face, I ran a hand through my hair with a sigh of relief. "Yes." I finally admitted, chewing on my lip. "I got in some trouble with Dave and they were after me."

Sylvari cocked her head to one side as Travis looked around him, passing by her as well. She shifted on her heel and faced him, a small smile curving her lips. "I know you didn't say that, I just took an educated guess since I can't fully read your thoughts," she said, letting her own black eyes sweep around, but coming up with nothing out of the ordinary.
Glancing back at Travis, she nodded once when he finally admitted it. "So you need a place to stay?" she asked him. She slid up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him closer to her. Just so she could feel those muscles she had felt earlier. "You could always come to my apartment for the night and figure stuff out tomorrow," she added a bit huskily, not waiting for the vampire to respond.

I chewed on my lip and gave her an absent nod at her first statement; my mind still on the coven and hoping I'd find a solution to this whole mess. "So you need a place to stay?" I heard from the back of my mind and warning bells chimed loudly in my skull as she came to me and wrapped her arms around my waist.
I swallowed, not used to the tender touch. "Uh." I said, not able to swallow a second time. My mouth had gone dry. "I'm not sure about that. We're... Different."
That was the best way to say in public what we truly were. Way more then different. More like mortal enemies. ( :I )
I peeled her arms off of me and ignored how much I missed the womanly affection. Green orbs looked in the direction I came from and finally realized I did need a place to stay. A place to keep me from them for the night.
But could this be a trap? Could this woman be trying to lure me into wherever demons lie, maybe Hell itself, just to harm me because of my being a vampire?
A most familiar scent of a vampire in the coven came to my nose. It was faint, but this meant they were coming. The uncertainty at following Sylvari soon vanished with a look of fear. "Yes. Take me with you."
I decided not to try and act tough - or even take the desperation from my tone.

Sylvari managed not to pout when he shifted out of her arms. Though, she clasped them behind her back. Yea, they may be different, but they were also the same. They were Supes in a world surrounded by humans. She watched as the uncertainty in his face slowly changed to fear and she glanced around.
Were more vampires coming?
"Yes. Take me with you."
Taking a hold of one of his hands with her left, she quickly pulled him into the mouth of an alley. The shadows there were darker than the ones on the street and proved to be essential when a Nibiru wanted to open up a portal. Raising her right hand, she let scales cover the skin and her nails elongate into sharpened claws. In a slashing motion, she ripped open a portal.
Without warning, she shot through it, pulling Travis after her. And the portal closed soon after.
The pair reappeared in the alleyway across from Sylvari's apartment complex and she quickly removed her hand from his and let her right hand shift back to normal. Slipping her hands into her jacket pockets, she moved towards the building before turning back slightly.
"Come on. Besides, nobody can track us through a shadow portal," she said, letting her head jerk in the direction of the complex.

My eyes widened as she took my hand in hers. What was going on through her head? Was she purposely trying to make me miss being normal? Be touched? Ever since I've been bitten, I've stayed with my coven loyally; and no, they didn't try and hold your hand. It made me realize what I was missing when I had to leave my family. The sorrow never eased, the home sickness never gone. But obviously I wasn't going to blubber like a baby in front of this girl, Sylvari.
Though I did hesitate with my feet and pulled back her hand just slightly before letting her lead me. Running away. I had a feeling that solution never brings a good outcome.
She brought me through an alley and I wasn't surprised this was the path to her home. She raised her hand and the events after that happened to quickly for me to analyze. I didn't even have a second to shout out before I was being sucked into a portal, Sy in front of me. I squeezed her hand and pulled back out of instinct, but that wasn't enough to stop me from following her farther in.
Once we were out, her hand slipped from mine and Sylvari was heading for the buildings. I followed her motion of sticking my hands in my pockets; hoping that would make me forget the touch of her hand. It wasn't a silly crush, or even less then that. I don't think we were even friends. It was the fact that I missed a tender touch. A gentle voice. And maybe just the presence of a woman that wasn't a vampire.
I guess I just missed normalcy and Sylvari made me realize it.
"You sure?" I asked, shaking the annoying thoughts from my mind as I caught up with her.

Sylvari gave him a droll look before she rolled her black eyes as they crossed the street. Once on the other side, she turned back to Travis. "Of course I'm sure. You'd have to be a Nibiru to open portals from the shadows themselves" Or Shadowwalkers. But she didn't add that. He probably didn't even know what a Nibiru was and she didn't want to overload his male mind with too much information at one time.
She opened the door to the complex and led the way through the little lobby that housed a receptionist desk that stood empty. Past a certain time, the male working there went home. Although Sylvari only saw him in the mornings, he seemed like the kind of male that was a bit too much sleaze and not enough gentleman he should be.
Thankfully, there was an elevator in the little lobby that the two could use instead of climbing up three flights of stairs. She pressed the up button and the doors open instantly. Once they were both inside the metal machine, she pressed the 3 and the doors closed to start its slow ascent.
"Will you tell me what a 'duffer' is now?" she asked softly.

Though my worries were not fully appeased by her words, I followed her silently; feeling as though the quiet may bring me a more pleasant mood. Which it did not. We went into the elevator and I closed my eyes. "Will you tell me what a 'duffer' is now?"
I heard her voice and I could feel the corners of my lips turn upwards in a -what felt like it was - rare sort of hidden smile. "It's a nick name Dave liked to call me."
My tone was flat.

She could hear the flatness in his tone when he spoke. A nickname? Really? Even if she didn't know what it meant, it sounded a bit degrading. With a frown, she crossed her arms against her chest and leaned back against one of the three metallic walls that made up the elevator. Since it was still climbing at a slower than molasses speed, she cocked her head to one side as she decided to ask one more question.
"But what does it mean?" she inquired.

[ :I ]
The elevator couldn't go any slower at a worse time. The last thing I needed was to explain to a woman that my coven was calling me names. I was already humiliated on how they treated me badly in front of her at the Sanctuary, now she wants more?
"But what does it mean?"
I sighed with a roll of my eyes and said with a clip in my tone, "It's just a name they call me. Really not that big a' deal."
